  1. XP Virtual Mode isn't (IMHO) a full XP Install. "Everything" might be there but you're "stuck" with XP SP3 that can't be slipstreamed due to the fact that it follows the old OEM axiom "Just give them the bare minumum so they'll be dependent upon us." Indeed, you just stated "EOS" so what would be your solution? I have yet to complete my little "project" but its entirely feasible to pull the Drivers (which also support USB AFAICT) from the SysPrepped XP Mode VHD, integrate them and all (workable) updates into an Install Medium, reformat the VHD, reinstall, thus having a *real* (e.g. fully updated and slipstreamed, even customized to user's taste) Virtual Machine, given the key components. However, this isn't what the OP asked for and you're seemingly "promoting" Upgrading (sounds like a hard-sell to me). We appreciate your comments and concerns, but please be so kind as to let us do our thing (help those that want to use an outdated/unsupported OS) while you do yours (help those that use an OS that MS still supports). Thanks for reading. And a big Welcome Back to the WinOutreach Team as we have many members using Win8.x and many planning the Win10, of which much is yet to be learned, even on MSFN.
  2. Well, you failed to note that the Unattended Guide has a (moderate) wealth of information. I suggest reading it in its entirety instead of asking the question then having someone else (her) point you to the specific subsection. It may speed you up by allowing *you* to go "OH, I needn't even ask that Q since here's the answer." I don't mean to be rude to say that. Just stating the obvious. Start here - http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/1/ Now, as for Installing from USB, go here: http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/157-install-windows-from-usb/ Bear in mind XP is a mite different than Vista and Above. The Reboot is the key. Observe the "Pinned" topics referencing XP. Do read *thoroughly* through said topics so you'll *thoroughly* understand (as is with the Unattended guide). We'll be able to assist from there as necessary in case of confusion/clarification. As for Ghost, remember the difference between Install and Image (as has already been described). Also not *any* decent Cloning software will work for "image deployment". HTH
  3. On the Archive. Same/similar licensing as WPI. https://web.archive.org/web/20111001164609/http://www.voidfx.com/FX/XPlode:Information Is there a reason you can't use the other two methods? After all, there are *four*, two of which are free (as in beer). This link, already given in Post #8. Do read *all* links jaclaz gave, please. http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/63/
  4. Uhhhh... didn't I give the direct links to the download pages? Both English and Swedish?
  5. I'm confused. Did you read the second link in Post #8?
  6. Agreed - for a Clean (booted) Install. But please note my comments about the "Autorun.inf" and note what they do after Install. Each EXE displays selections differently. I would suggest *not* overlaying CD#1 one with CD#2 one. You can always copy the CD#2 one as a different name just-for-fun/to-retain.
  7. AUTORUN.INF on R2 CD#2 points to a different EXE file (R2AUTO.EXE). Therre's a reason for that. You should read the contents of the R2 CD#2 "DOCS" Folder, explaining that if you've already installed SP1 then you need only install CD#2 using your provided R2 Product Key to allow for "upgrade" to use the New R2 Facilities (AFAICT). Read in particular "R2SETUP.CHM". It appears that a Clean Install would really not care about the AUTORUN.INF/R2AUTO.EXE. You're also aware that Srv2K3 is EOL July 14, right?
  8. Windows 95 SP1 Complete Set - ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/MSLFILES/ START.EXE + DISK2.EXE thru DISK14.EXE Read this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/150445 Links to that KB and CD-ROM list KB's found here (scroll down) - http://kbupdate.info/windows-95-w.php START.EXE contains "SETUP.EXE" (aka "Prompted Setup") as *also* found in a sub-folder after all above have been extracted, e.g. "x:\ADMIN\COMPONTS\UPDATES\PROMPTED" Side note: The files are all compressed with PKZip v2.04g and made to be self-extracting. To put on a set of floppies: 1- Prepare (Format) all Floppies 2- In a DOS Command Prompt, change to the Directory where you save them. E.G. 2a- CD x:\SP1 2b- x: 3-Run the following 3a- START.EXE -d A:\ <<<==where A:\ is Disk1 / ADMIN.BAT may be safely deleted from it - for each DISKn, put in the next floppy - be sure to mark Disk# on each Floppy 4- DISKn.EXE -d A:\ Please not that if you *don't* want the Compete Set, just get the SETUP.EXE *Also* not that you can create a separate folder and run the above commmands, replacing "A:\" with the that Folder Path to get a complete Admin Set (ref. ADMIN.BAT contents). FYI, the Web Archive Link won't find "SETUP.EXE". It's *also* in the FTP folder given above, as are many of the other files given in your first link. (Note - take a look in INDEX.TXT here - ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/for a comprehensive list of other Updates in MSLFILES.)
  9. Maybe/MaybeNot OT. INF/BAT files have been known (in the past, maybe today?) for wanting/needing x"0D0A" immediately following a character string so the parsing will recognize "DOH! All done with this." (typically after the last line). The Hex string is basically "Press Enter" at the end of the string. I may be completely wrong here (I've been known to be) but would that be worth trying?
  10. Yeah, how about that Gigabyte? No, we don't have any insider information. Contact them and ask.
  11. I'm going to "assume" that the MoBo is "L440GX+ board" (per your other posts)? https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/50432/Intel-L440GX-Server-Board From "Product Guide". So it's a 7800-Series. Specifically, it should be in "PNPSCSI.INF". That *and* file "aic78u2.sys" (inside DRIVER.CAB) should do the trick. I fail to see why you're having a problem as those files are on *all* XP and *all* Server2k3 and are nearly identical (IOW only the DriverVer inside the INF should be different). As a matter of fact, the ".sys" hasn't changed since RTM! BTW, mine are "Adaptec AIC-7895 Dual Ultra SCSI" and are also present, but use "aic78xx.sys". I suggest you double-check the Driver inside Device Manager. Only thing I can figure is that your Install went horribly wrong! HTH
  12. Something goofy here. Are you aware of where the Restore Points are stored? (Hint - System Volume Information folder)
  13. I have absolutely *no clue* if this would be of use to you, but... Dayton (OH) Veteran's Administration Medical Center has something quite close to what you want in-place and most likely every VA Medical Center in the U.S. has something similar. Perhaps finding a way of contacting someone that could put you in contact with someone who... http://www.dayton.va.gov/ A Long Shot, I know, but maybe?
  14. I don't get it. How does System Restore "fix" it (except to "back out" HDD/OS changes)? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/306084 So, are the "problem updates" still installed? I can't see how if Restore Point backed it/them out?
  15. Could you just disable the SATA Drive (set to "None" or something similar)? You may still get the SATA Controller showing. (Shot in the dark...) But it "seems" to be that it's the the SATA Drive that's causing the headache but the fact that you're picking up the SATA Controller. And I fully agree with jaclaz. You're giving no specifics. Some MoBo's require 1+3 / 2+4 SATA in Legacy (PATA) Mode, so it may be you simply have "something" connected wrong.
  16. ? I can't seem to find that quote. Do you have a link?
  17. Not really sure what you problem is. Sounds odd since I have an old HP Netserver Dual P-III/550 1GB SDRAM (4x256) Dual 10GB HDD on a single SCSI Channel and it runs fine with XP (was originally SCO/Unix AFAICR). You don't have it set to RAID do you (would require Two HDD's)? Could you possibly give us *FULL SPECS* so we can help? Make/Model/Motherboard/Controller/RAM (etc)? Belarc is one software that will provide a little info in case you don't actually know. After all it's kind of hard to give an answer with absolutely no info on the Hardware. See what I mean?
  18. Ignore 4-slot (except that Dual Channel as I described *does* apply to 4-slot). The "colored" pic (showing where to find Rev-xx) in the manual deceived me. You definitely have 2 slots as it clearly shows further in. "IOW" I had obtained your manual from the U.S. site (exact same info). You *should* be good-to-go. BTW (that means "by the way" ) if you click on the CPU-Z "SPD" tab you should see both RAM sticks. An explanation of that single field is right here. http://diaryofdennis.com/2012/11/12/how-to-check-if-your-computer-memory-is-running-in-dual-channel-mode/ As they say in New York City - fahgedaboudit!
  19. @earlytv - I believe Tripredacus was just indicating they are going to be very rare. His post was by no indication that he knows anything more than a link to an Archive of information. Your computer is 15 years old and it's doubtful that these special parts will be generally available unless you can find a collector somewhere. In other words, you're own your own. Sorry...
  20. Guess I should ask. How did you get "BIOS = AMI F3g UM 05/05/2014" on a Rev-1.0 Board? http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3970#bios Same Q here? (Brand new mobo?) http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/61977-How-to-Set-Dual-Channel-Memory-Mode-in-AMI-F3g-UM-BIOS Google gigabyte bios "f3g"Seems to say this is a Beta and not for your Mobo? According to first link, your BIOS should be an Award Bios and what jaclaz wrote is what your Manula says (Award). Here's (literally) what your screens should look like. Different Mobo, but It matches you Manual. Please advise. edit - BTW, F3 with the date you specified appears to be for a Rev-4 MoBo. The F3 for Your Rev is older. edit2 - Rev-1 F3 is Award / F3 for Rev-4 is AMI - How did that happen? ======== SCRATCH ALL OF ABOVE! (I'm a dope...) Keyword "DVI" ============ http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4403#bios I will say this - If you don't put the pair in the same-colored slots (you have 4), it may work but you won't get Dual. Since the CPU-Z is not in the MDL link, it may be possible you don't have them in the "Dual" slots. Your description doesn't say which Slots. IOW, you want 1+3 and/or 2+4. Dual-Channel doesn't work otherwise.
  21. Be forwarned that I haven't used any of these and therefore do *not* endorse their usage. It's up tp you. https://www.raymond.cc/blog/safely-delete-unused-msi-and-mst-files-from-windows-installer-folder/ There also appears to be a Win7 Update that will CleanUp unused stuff. I haven't fully updated any Win7 OS as-of-yet, so... http://lifehacker.com/recover-tons-of-wasted-disk-space-with-the-new-windows-1442937625 Links to this - http://blogs.technet.com/b/askpfeplat/archive/2013/10/07/breaking-news-reduce-the-size-of-the-winsxs-directory-and-free-up-disk-space-with-a-new-update-for-windows-7-sp1-clients.aspx Also, backup, backup, backup in case something flubs you up. As for your initial Q about "compressing" I'm not really sure what that will do for you since mostly that Folder contains MSI/MSP files anyway. You *may* gain somewhat but I'm really unsure how much. I'd recommended downloading 7-Zip and (using it) create a ".ZIP" file (not a ".7z" file) of the folder to see if there's any gain to be had (ZIP file size vs Folder size). If not, then it would be pointless anyway. See comments here (even one about Installer folder) - http://dandar3.blogspot.com/2013/01/how-to-ntfs-compress-windows-winsxs.html After all, a Compressed Folder is just a ".ZIP" file anyway. Whether the OS would "recognize" it for any future Installs and use that instead of the "actual" (physical) Folder I have no clue. HTH edit - Most references are about an SSD. Can I assume that's your case?
  22. Anytime, "Noob"! If you need any other help, we'll be glad to confuse you a little more until you finally get un-confused.
  23. Well, AFAICT Office 2007 Extended Support will be (totally) discontinued October 10, 2017. http://www.zdnet.com/article/office-2007-gets-a-six-month-support-extension-from-microsoft/ It seems that nobody is bothering with an ULZ for it anymore. (At least as far as I can find.) There appears to be an "UL XML Creator" but it would be up to someone to continue to create the UL file. Your only other alternative (AFAIK) is "WSUS Offline Installer". Office 2007 Updates are generally extracted and the MSP files placed into folder "Updates" on the CD/DVD and are not integratable. Get SP3 then all files dated just past SP3. That's the best it will get. HTH
  24. Uhhh.... An Offline Scandisk "fixed" it. An Offline Virus/Trajan scan cleaned it (including the HIV files). I then proceeded to back up said Single Partition. Next step was to logon as Administrator (never ever EVER used) and created a Work Admin Profile. I then proceeded to back up (copy) the Original to a temp folder. I then Deleted that Profile *and* the "ghost* ones, then Recreated it. Finally I copied the Original (from temp) back over it. Finally, I rebooted into the Original. Guess what? I've run into this this before. Don't think what you think before you think. It all depends on what got clobbered. Been there, done that. A liitle background (and MS is "kind of" wrong on the first link). https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/811151 This link actually points to that one and several others. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/security/windows-keeps-changing-user-profile-folder/bd1f56cd-0fd4-4498-852c-6f12e487c931 My procedure will be to do the "merge" Offline newest to oldest in a Temp folder before blowing away and recreating. Google this. xp "corrupted profile" "000"
