  1. Read it. I'm not going to quote it. http://www.extremetech.com/computing/215451-windows-10-is-a-better-windows-7-if-you-can-get-the-upgrade-to-work I was interested because of all of the updates to allow/disallow to get the "Upgrade". Seems that this person got an "Insider" account and is (somewhat) pleased now. Me and maybe my Bro upgrade? Maybe I'll dive in just for giggles to get my "free upgrade" logged, but maybe I'd better wait until the "fixed release" mentioned in the link I gave. edit - Guess I should mention I found it via this link. http://www.extremetech.com/computing/212724-microsoft-kills-patch-notes-will-no-longer-explain-most-windows-10-updates Seems MS is getting more like the CIA every day. Got CEIP? Get rid of it or send your experience to MS. Go ahead use that bandwidth! http://www.infoworld.com/article/2981947/microsoft-windows/the-truth-about-windows-7-and-81-spy-patches-kb-3068708-3022345-3075249-and-3080149.html
  2. Your CPU is a First-Gen Celeron (Mendocino), according to your link. Using your chart: Set Vcore=2 Set FSB=100 Set CPU=PPGA / Intel *Theoretically* the iWill should provide what's needed, disregarding the BIOS Support (AFAIKR). Now, whether it will work in a 66mhz FSB MoBo, I really don't know. My impression is that the FSB should match between MoBo and Slocket, since the Slocket's only *real* purpose is to allow a Socket CPU to be inserted into a Slot. (FYI - I had a Slocketed MoBo once... recycled the whole shebang.)
  3. Um... Ahem... SECC-I vs SECC-IIPay attention, folks. You can *not* put an SECC2 CPU into an SECC1 Slot!
  4. Want us to help you out? Incomplete "command" you give. Pleas tell *whole* command. You give *no error message* just say you have one. Please give *whole* error message.
  5. You want to eradicate IE8? Isn't it an integral part of Windows7? (IOW, non-removable, but able to "disable" it.) It seems that what you "found" is for Vista? ( also )
  6. "VL6/333" - Uh-uh (probably not). Here's a reference. http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Evo-Deskpro-Vectra/HP-Vectra-VL6-333mhz-running-at-233-mhz/td-p/210880?notmigrated Series 7 is a 66mhz MoBo. IOW, SECC-I, not an SECC-II. The 500mhz will act according to what the above link says. Look here at the 66mhz. You're already maxed out. http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium-II/TYPE-Desktop%20Pentium%20II.html
  7. I guess my point was "depending on the number of large vs small files" on the (same) HDD (space waste), or is that wrong, jaclaz?
  8. Split from here - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171814-posready-2009-updates-ported-to-windows-xp-sp3-enu/#entry1108610 Noting that a number of folks complain about Add-Ons built from other sources (e.g. RyanVM and WinCert). Please, folks, bear in mind that we can *attempt* to help, but going directly to the source may be a better idea since we would have to dig *elsewhere* just to turn around and link to it "over there".
  9. That's because Update Packs get linked to other websites that allow discussion/linking to the PROPRIETARY Updates, which MSFN is not allowed to do. Usually, the actual Packs are hosted on a server that does *NOT* recognize the U.S. laws, so you can get them. Ther is no definitive answer to your question. RyanVM and WinCert both have variations that may or may not include all kinds of "optional goodies" that may or may not bust the CD Size Limit, forcing one to use a DVD. An alternative is http://xdot.tk Downloader (has a couple of extremely minor bugs) that is *stricltly* Critical Updates up to EOL. If you choose to use it, I'll inform you of the "bug corrections". All others will (usually) have to be discussed at the associated Forum for any "bugs" encountered. HTH
  10. Google either one of these. nlite "not to remove" site:msfn.orgnlite "removal" site:msfn.orgHTH...
  11. ? You might want to take a look at those two files in Win98SE. At the risk of being beat up, 98SE "runs on top of DOS" (kind of). What made you think it didn't use them?
  12. Google this. "cluster size" site:msfn.orgThis has been discussed many times before.
  13. Hmmmm - Mine's a PCHIPS (see the Greater Than 1GB RAM topic) and has a Socket 775. It's a VIA P4M800 chipset. Win98 likes Via and vice-versa. I have yet to install Win98 on my eMachine Socket 775 (Intel-only) and I'm still learning about my spanky new (used) Asus P5K-VM board (OMG! Socket 775 Core 2 Duo 4gb RAM). Doubting the Asus will work (has G31/G33) but I *will* try ennyhoo.
  14. WDM or VXD sound drivers in 98SE? ME and XP (by default) use WDM.
  15. (default) (Value) 30600 "C:\PROGRA~1\MESSEN~1" <-------+ 30601 "C:\Program Files\Messenger" | 30602 "C:\PROGRA~1\MESSEN~1" | [DestinationDirs] | BLC.Install.App = 30600 <---------------------------+ BLC.CleanPrev.App = 30600 BLC.Remove.App = 30600 You think maybe that's why? Try using "30601" in the "DestinationDirs" entries.
  16. Read the thread so nothing will get repeated, Ninho. The whole ugly scenario and variations is right there.
  17. @Skrell - Not really sure about this, but I do believe you have to mod the Package before you can make an add-on otherwise it won't install. Did you read the very first post? The link you provided is *only* to create an Add-On and *not* to mod POS Update to allow for install. Which Update did you try to create (name the KB number, please) and where did you get it from?
  18. I have (one, naturally) "DESKTOP.INI" on my Server2k3. With a dual-head Video Card I can' see how I caan move it to an "invisible" area. This is (as said) "by design". Just move it away from other desktop items and... IGNORE it!. BTW - unticking "Align To Grid" does *not* make it totally invisible (in my case). It moves *most* of it but *some* remains (even two monitors). edit - I guess I should mention, I generally use 800x600, occasionally changing to 1024x768, so BOOM! Visible again anyhow (until set back). WOOHOO! Kind of looks like your "solution" isn't even permanent?
  19. Ehh? I just did a Windows (actually a Microsoft) Update Monday Afternoon (EST) and didn't get that messege. All I got was (something like) "Youmust restart Windows to complete Updates", which I did and it completed. Windows 7 with SP1 Pro Edition (Refurbisher OEM System Builder) 1 - Go to Windows (MS) Update, deselect what you don't want (everything list in "I Don't Want Windows 10") 2 - Wait a God-awful time to download and install roughly 385 MB 3 - Press the Reboot 4 - Wait a God-awful time for it to complete 5 - "Welcome" Screen. I had manually installed IE10 before I did the above. My screen looked *nothing* like yours. Maybe your Auto-Update setting is different? So Color Me Stumped.
  20. NOTICE TO ANYONE POSTING!!!! Universal Extractor is NO LONGER MAINTAINED HERE! FORGET IT!!!! LOOK HERE INSTEAD FOR ALL INFO PERTAINING TO UNIEXTRACT! http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171930-new-unofficial-version-165/ HTH
  21. v2.57 of MU is (probably) the culprit, as has been stated in this thread. You'll need to find MU v2.56 (somewhere) to "get back to" a good starting point. You're "stuck" in MU and can't get back to (basic) WU. See http://xdot.tk/ Note: there is a CABARC problem in the script (can't find it). See this for "fix". http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174350-udc-not-connecting-to-microsoft-site/#entry1106826 Basically, you can "rip out" everything but the WUA creation portion and you'll get the v2.56 of WU. I'm a bit foggy on all of this, so here's an Attached Text note of a bunch of info I had saved. 7.6.76000.256_instructions.txt
  22. ? I thought that was made clear in the info link I gave? Basically, if you get the error, fagedaboutit! Indeed, the one you specified does *not* work - anywhere!
  23. No. And there's no repository for the collection AFAIK. Have you browsed this? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/43605-maximus-decim-native-usb-drivers/ Many of the "latest" were retained by various members (found throught that thread). Also see this. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171620-usb-flash-drivers-for-98se/ And specifically this. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/43605-maximus-decim-native-usb-drivers/#entry1061996
  24. You can't do a "generic" run using anything but the "specific" name (one for each). No WildCards. Are you saying the NirSoft program doesn't work? Also, you *are* right-clicking CMD and/or the NirSoft program and using "Run As", right? (Note - No Win7 machine up-and-running ATM, so I can't test/verify.) edit - This (post above this one) http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174375-problem-registering-dll/#entry1107099 The first two should already exist. The last two are additional to allow for right-click.
  25. Actually, I got mine from "WTF CAT" and cropped out the text. Apparently text was added to the one jaclaz linked. Please don't "steal" my "stolen cat" for an AVI, OK?
