Let's say you have two AV products running real-time. Both products want to scan a given file. Whoever gets there first will start inspecting, while the next will get tied up. Worse, if the first finds a bogie, the next will get all confused and *may* (read is probably *will*) crash -or- cause the *first* to crash. That "slots" bit is sheer nonsense. But it sounds good for someone trying to sell their expertise/OS. Rule of thumb - *Never* have more that one Real-Time AV or Firewall running. There *will* be a battle. In all other cases, run an AV "on-demand after the Real-Time has scanned and is disabled. The WWW is rife with this sort of paranoid idiocracy. Some vendors even say when you try to install "Sorry, no can do. Uninstall that other one first." I have *one* that I (rarely) "Enable". All others (SpyBot, MBAM, etc) are "On Demand". BTW, wonder why (e.g.) DHS doesn't use that OS? Cyber-Security solved!

Wait a minute! Are you saying you "already" had an nVidia card installed and was trying to install an ATI one along with it? (must have missed that?). Theoretically, as long as the Drivers (files, etc) are exactly the same, you should be able to use any *pair* of any given make of Video (e.g. 2 nVidia -or- 2 ATI) for (ex.) Dual Monitors. AFAICR (could be wrong, may be for "older" drivers + older OS), nVidia and ATI don't play well together. (And I *did* note "even if I had no NVidia drivers installed on Windows 98"...)

Can't extract .exe file with Universal Extractor
submix8c replied to Maleny's topic in Software Hangout
From the Service Tag, the Original OS was Windows 7 - http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/servicetag/8RGFRY1/configuration The Drivers you list doesn't jive in any way to what your Service Tag shows (for any OS), because your list looks "short"/"long" in all cases. Do you expect to move (whatever) OS from (whatever old PC) to this laptop (due to "other" software + all your documents)? You're going to get into a "Genuine"/"Activate" problem right away, regardless of the Drivers unless the correct "conditions" are met. We would have to assume that this Laptop is void of the Original OS (indicated by the SvcTag), right? Otherwise, you need tost transfer your Old Settings to the Laptop (MS version of PCMover, God help you). And I also agree, this Topic needs moved. -
So, is this an offshoot of this topic? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/170950-windows-2000-on-haswell/ What driver did you get that supports XP on a Haswell that can be "modded" to allow for Vista? Again, you're providing no links/info to assist with the research. And your sig doesn't indicate the MoBo you speak of (whatever it is). It seems a waste of time to search all the threads you post in or topics you start to get a direct answer when you already know and could say so here. As for Aero, also . Understand I don't have any of the above (whatever it is) but *would* be willing to dig for you *if* you'll give out some specifics in *this* topic. Note how I gave a link to another topic you started but never said *anything* about being resolved, how you did it, using aht you used. Searches I used - Haswell + AnX as Posts AnX as Topics Links, please. Versions, please, Motherboard/Chipset, please. As Johnny Five said - "INput!" Found this. Now, what, pray tell, was the end result of this topic? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/172834-windows-vista-on-z97/

1 - Native not=Host. Made no sense to me, so I asked (a clarification question). 2 - No, you did not, hence the "?" at the end (a question). 3 - 32-bit as opposed to 64-bit (obvious question, since that's the Windows 7 platforms as-specified). Weird how MS says the same thing, so, misleading? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/system-requirements Aside from your misunderstanding (all questions, not statements) and thinking I was somehow attacking you... Glad you got it working.

P55 INF driver ver:9.1.1.1014 last real support for win2k Pro
submix8c replied to mcollins's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Have you thought of VirtualPC? What, exactly, are the requirements of the $250k program? Odd that it "uses" Office97/Win2k at that price... -
Help me out here - what does this mean? "native Windows 7 SP1" "OEM Pre-installed"? This may/may not be relevant, but - x86 or x64 version?
-
"<snip>get the XP 32 or 64 bit drivers and copy the hardware ids in the .inf to the nt6 section." If I might ask, why would XP Driver INF's have an "NT6" section? This makes no sense. "<snip>you'll need to manually enable aero through a reg hack." If I might ask, where's the reference to the hack? Where in the registry, or do people have to search WWW/MSFN? You're post is providing no help to others, as it lacks any direct info/instructions/links.

Not a "card". A USB Device. http://www.dx.com/p/ralink-rt73-802-11b-g-54m-usb-wireless-adapter-black-22682 Designed for USB 2.0 connection. Besides, what I told you right away right here (first sentence). http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/173503-98se-trouble-with-memory-and-audio/#entry1094803 Forget the USB WiFi. Repeat - forget it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralink And I don't see RT73 Windows drivers. Just Linux. http://www.mediatek.com/en/downloads/ I downloaded one from CNET and it specifically states "Vista" inside, even though the description said otherwise. Downloaded another from DriverGuide and it appears to be for Vista/Win7, even though the description said otherwise. Now look here and notice what it says (a download for it also) - https://sites.google.com/site/linksysupdateddrivers/rt73/driver/download No Win9x/ME support. Could you possibly tell me where the heck you got those drivers from? I think you may be chasing something that will *not* work. FWIW, this one (Sep 7, 2006) the INF *claims* to be compatible for Win98/ME/2k/XP specifically for the RA73. http://www.dasgate.de/dlink/D-Link%20DKT-110/Resource/NIC/Drivers/WinXP_2K/ Just for fun, I'm checking the Web Archive right now. Edit - Nope. Found a couple of potential filenames which led me to this archive, though. http://files.3dnews.org/pub/drivers/LANCARD/ralink/ I believe that the "7x" ones are yours. Edit2 - Using (and used to find above) this as a Google search "IS_AP_STA_7x_D-1.2.3.0_VA-3.1.1.0_2500_D-2.1.1.0_VA-3.1.0.0_RU-2.0.4.0_VA-2.0.4.0_AU_1.2.1.0_VA-1.0.4.0_101707_0.1.0.29.exe"FileWatcher gave several sites as well. HTH Final edit - Unless we know the exact VID/PID values directly from the Device, we'll *not* even *ever* find the right driver. Hunt-and-peck *any* "supposed" driver never works. What, exactly, does it say on the Physical Device (Who makes it/what model)? (beating this to death!) An even newer version - http://www.touslesdrivers.com/index.php?v_page=23&v_code=23272 You'll have to translate. Seems to correct a number of problems. *AND* it seems to be the *last* one for Win98/ME provided by RALINK (I checked). Later versions dropped support. "IS_AP_STA_7x_D-1.3.2.0_VA-3.1.5.0_RU-2.1.9.0_VA-2.2.4.0_AU-2.0.9.0_VA-2.0.9.0_111108_1.0.6.0_Free.exe"Above is actual filename. If it works, fine. If it doesn't, you're out of luck.

It needs room for a System Partition at the front end of the HDD. The OS parition (Drive C) follows. How are you doing the OS Install. IOW, what's your Setup? - What tool to create the USB Install - Are you using an Install XML - Is the ISO an "untouched" ISO or did you "do somethibg" to it? - Are the HDD's brand new, or do they have Pre-Existing partitions (will/could bite you if so) - What -Edition- are you trying to install Need IN-Put! I've used RMPrepUSB with Firadisk plus an Unattend XML (just the basics) plus a completely empty (no partitions) HDD Plus an untouched ISO and have had no problems.

Windows/Microsoft Update Not Working on Windows 2000/XP/2003
submix8c replied to MrMaguire's topic in Windows XP
Same thing for me again (IE6) today (see POSReady thread). Was working "a while back". -
FWIW, KB3013455 - https://support.microsoft.com/kb/3013455 says Why it didn't install (using the registry "trick"), however, is beyond me. (note - I haven't been installing POSReady, so...) The above MS notation seems to go against both what is posted here and also in this link. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r29852995-KB3013455-breaks-font-rendering-on-XP-FLP-WEPOS-POS2009 AFAICT, the only way to confirm it is to install and test (Catalog is still giving error 8DDD0010 for me trying to get this file - then again I'm still at IE6.)
-
Not the same file. One is "broken" the newer one is not. Windows will detect the newer as the "latest". They're just covering their a$$. http://www.techworm.net/2015/02/microsoft-bungles-again-this-time-with-kb-3013455-and-kb-3037639.html Ignore the "bad" one as Dencorso said. "We don't really care about anything but Win7/Win8, so we got lazy".

Edit - and here's some nifty stuff. Not really sure if this is considered warez. If so, some Mod may remove the link if necessary. http://www.voetsjoeba.com/misc/edid/ It pertains to creating your own INF files, etc. Good find, Drugwash! Surely that should work! EDIT! Erm you may still need to mod it. "Excludefromselect.nt" and a "SERVICE"??? Is that supposed to be there for 9x? Attached is my NEC one. Use it as a reference. neca90.zip

http://vip.asus.com/FORUM/view.aspx?board_id=13&model=VH238H&id=20111021084341372&page=1&SLanguage=en-us Seems that you *might* be able to get the INF information from the Registry (the PnP one) and create a Win9x INF (that it seemingly recognizes) from the information. I have my NEC INF installed and it has everything needed to allow for proper resolutions/refresh rates. I could provide you with that INF and the relate REG entries (but they're already in the INF). That is, unless the one Drugwash provided works. edit - GHAK! This is stupid! http://www.nodevice.com/download/driver/ASUS+-180726/456322.html Asus VE278 - 19mb Zip, inside is another Zip (9mb) for... Windows 8! The dang thing is *exactly* like any other Driver! (e.g. my NEC)! Provided it works, all you have to do is change the ID inside and "mod" it for 9x. Note: the EDID is "ACI27F6" A couple of references - http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141091&s=1cb223533588c729c8f28738f05b6e90&p=2172860&viewfull=1#post2172860 http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1038666683&postcount=17 Oddball (does your Win9x ATI CCC do this?) - http://www.sevenforums.com/2097181-post302.html

Windows/Microsoft Update Not Working on Windows 2000/XP/2003
submix8c replied to MrMaguire's topic in Windows XP
#WhyWeJustLoveMicrosoft -
@Tripredacus - here is every form the IRS has. I don't know why the OP said there's no place you can download them http://www.irs.gov/Forms-&-Pubs The link j7n gave is linked halfway down. In addition, here's the "how-to" with the other link they gave (with same link inside) - http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/29434/how-to-save-fillable-form-data-in-pdfs I'm looking at the 1040A right now and it has "fillable" fields (in blue). *HOWEVER* I have Pro, so I'm not going to stomp on it with the Reader. I will "assume" the Reader allows you to save them after filling? Yep, you can - Adobe Reader X - https://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-to-save-form-data-in-adobe-reader Note - Older versions will *not* save the PDF. It's a new feature, unless you have the Pro version. Side note - I'm really unsure of why they want to change the color. It won't print the "blue" - it's just to hilite the Fillable Fields.

Well... I'd say part of your problem is mix/match two Packs. The same happens with the English ones. Rule of thumb - do *not* mix/match. The "WinsPatcher" here - http://www.instalki.pl/programy/download/Windows/aktualizacje/WinSPatcher_98SE.html specifically states the Fixes include. The SP21b (polish) is the same as the English of the same version. http://www.olesno.pl/~pablo/ms-sp/ Here's the original SP21a, listing the Fixes - http://exuberant.ms11.net/98sesp.html Seems the only difference is a "USBFIX". They are "mirrored" here - http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#SPX Here is -the latest- English one. http://www.htasoft.com/u98sesp/ BTW, the *intent* of leading you to the Complete List Of Hotfixes was to allow you to find you *own* and install them. Edit - It seems that the WinsPatcher is just a Packaged set that works like this - 1 - SETUP.EXE runs and reads SETUP.INF. I'm assuming that it allows Selective Installs of the First Set. 2 - The Second Set is selected (?) via the first SETUP.EXE (filename=UPD2SUP.EXE) which woks the same way as the previous one. The Unofficial SP21b one appears to work similarly but the Fist Selection gives absulutely *no choice* as to which specific updates are installed. Look inside the "SPUPDATE.INF" file to see the specific fixes applied. (Juts add KB or Q to the number, eg KBnnnnnn, and search the WWW for it). It appears that one of the fixes from the SP overlayed one from the WinsPatcher. Compare the KB numbers and do *not* install any already in the SP. In other words, install the SP *first* and be *very* selective with the WinsPatcher one. As far as any -other- fixes beyond that, I suggest you find the Polish version of any *not* inside either package compared to the "Complete List" (linked above, English) and/or the *latest* (English) USSP3 (linked above) Fix List. It *appears* to work *exactly* like the (older) SP2.x files. Please note that the SP's are *not* independent Fixes (lumped into a large CAB file), as opposed to the WinsPatcher, which *is* separate files. Final note - I *could* give you a list of Fixes (all independent) inside (English) Autopatcher but they're most undoubtedly already listed in the "Complete List". HTH And bear in mind, this is an English Forum. This assistance is a courtesy, since several of our members were involved with the non-English ones (as a courtesy). HTH

Agreed. I guess I should have stipulated further. It's up to the OP to decide which way to go - the "limited" way or the "full-blown" way. Currently, the OP can't even get past 512MB. Nonetheless, I'm unsure of why the OP is having so much trouble. Pick a method and try it. As I said (and as soon as I can, I'll get your fix) I have 2GiB on my machine using "limited" method.

This one - http://www.asus.com/us/Monitors_Projectors/VE278Q/ Using the VGA connector, right? Can we assume the Monitor is showing up as "Default" or "Plug And Pray"? And the Video Driver is appropriate?

Forget the USB WiFi. AFAICR, it won't happen. USB support is limited, even with patches/unofficial. If you'd have noticed most (mine in particular) in that thread, I only patched the IO.SYS ("xRayeR's patch for Safe Mode"). The remainder is standard, except that I have an LBA48-aware system and have a 320gbHDD connected. You don't have that problem. Forget [vcache] section. Use "HIMEMX.EXE" (see "xRayeR's patch for Safe Mode") replacement and use/try entries given for [386Enh] as others have stated. Here's my section. [386Enh]MaxPhysPage=48000ebios=*ebioswoafont=dosapp.fonmouse=*vmouse, msmouse.vxddevice=*dynapagedevice=*vcddevice=*vpddevice=*int13keyboard=*vkdEMMExclude=C000-CFFF,C000-CFFFdisplay=*vdd,*vflatdDMABufferSize=64MinSPs=16If you take a look at the very first "1.5 Gib" entry, you'll notice a couple of simple entries (along with Xeno86 pacth) that cured Bristol's computer. FYI - that "Safe Mode" patch will require a "new" (or modified) SYSTEM.CB file (alongside the SYSTEM.INI). Mine - [Keyboard]layout=kbdus.kbd[Intl]ACP=1252OEMCP=437SystemLocale=00000409[boot]*DisplayFallback=0[386Enh]MaxPhysPage=40000EXTREMELY basic entries. You'll undoubtedly have to change entries in the [intl] section (mine's English). The "RAM Limitation Patch" simply circumvents those entries and does it for you by patching a System File. (Yes, it's a "paid for" item). HTH and as soon as you get it going, notify Dencorso to have yours added to the list. Side note - after patches/replacements of SYS/VXD files, experiment with smaller SYSTEM.xxx values until you boot, then "bump" them little by little. Hmmm - maybe this will help - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/154826-solved-tenz9596s-15-gib-ram-setup-overhaul/ Word of warning - Back up any files that you may wind up altering so they can be restored in case something "goes wrong". Bing/Google this to help you out in your endeavor. "maxphyspage" site:msfn.org

Windows XP - Cleaning Out Hidden Logs, Junk and Other "Stuff"
submix8c replied to Monroe's topic in Windows XP
CCleaner does many of those things you're doing individually. I assume you're aware that if you delete "$NtUninstallxxxxxx$" and/or "$hf_mig$ folders you lose the ability to add/remove? They'll still show up in the Control Panel "Add/Remove". The REG entries indicating they're installed (and can be "uninstalled") will still exist - HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Updates/<all of the Updates including non-Windows> A notation on "$hf_mig$ http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/67771-question-hf-mig-folders-remove-them/#entry875403 When slipstreamed, they don't show *but* the appropriate info is retained to prevent Windows Update from "thinking" it needs installed. HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Hotfix Go get this and run it to see what's stored - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wul.html Two interesting Topics (and a similar VBscript) - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/147062-how-to-list-all-currently-installed-win7-patchesupdates/ http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/90070-integrate-several-hotfixes-using-batch/ AFAICR, if you attempt to "uninstall" an that have been removed, Add/Remove will say it can't find it, do you want to remove it from the List. I had a link to explain in detail the various types of Updates (and where they're stored) but it eludes me ATM. -
Here's a silly question - How about a Monitor INF? I assume you've installed one for that monitor? One for an NEC AccuSync 90 specifically states - HKR,MODES HKR,,MaxResolution HKR,,DPMS HKR,,ICMProfile Is that the same monitor you had hooked up to the AGP card?

Have you tried an older version? http://www.wireless-driver.com/realtek-rtl8191se-rtl8192se-wireless-drivers-utility/

Actually, we have no clue what Sound Driver you need. Here's your nVidia Chipset information (WikiPedia of all places) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NForce3 It specifically says it did *not* include their Integrated Sound into that chipset, so it *must* be a Separate Chip. Actually, yes. What's the Motherboard ID? Vendor/Model? Just telling us the connected hardware/chipset doesn't help. Epox? DFI? Gigabyte? Who makes it and what Model? It should be written on the Main Board somewhere. I also note that you completely disregarded my links to how to use all of that RAM, up to 1GB accessible, the other 512mb ignored. Please do go back and read those links. I personally have 98SE running with 2GB RAM on an Intel-CPU Dual Core MoBo. I no longer have the Gigabyte (AMD Sempron). Complete list of Hotfixes (also listed in the links I gave) - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/84886-the-complete-list-of-hotfixes-updates-for-windows-98se/ HTH Edit - Attach your "SYSTEM.INI" file and we'll take a look at your Settings (re - RAM). Also, FYI - http://www.mdgx.com/upd98me.php Scroll down to "4-25-2012 Update" and you'll ee that's an old SP so doesn't work around your problems. There's also some complete (English) DriverPacks for 98SE. Scroll down on this - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/98369-driver-packs-for-windows-959898seme/page-2 Soporific's website is gone so just do a search on this "dp_w98_1.01.exe"and you'll find a "mirror" with all the latest known, although what's listed above (I41Mar) may be newer/better, although they're talking about a VIA chipset (not nVidia).
