? What does that mean? What's the WiFi? Are you sure you have the correct driver? I only ask because only have an Add-In card (Realtek RTL8185L Antenna) and a USB (D-Link DWA-130 Wireless N+B USB). They both work fine for mine. And do check the "hidden" as suggested above. BTW, sometimes you may have Connection Software that may be absolutely useless since the OS *may* have its own Connection method. ( about that since I usually don't use wireless and can't remember.)

Do a google on the filenames. Also, just for fun, tru downloading the above, extract, and use the CABS in that instead of from the UL to test if that's indeed the problem. I suppose they need to be compared to see if there's a difference. You can get the files directly from MS. http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2014/07/14/how-to-install-the-windows-update-agent-on-client-computers.aspx Someone may have inadvertently included the Win8x instead of the Win7. Sorry, I have no time right now to do the above. Maybe another WinCert member can indicate the problem, both in the WTK and/or the ULZ topic? EDIT! @steven4554 - be aware that nobody's knocking your efforts. This is just an alternative for anyone that wants it. Keep up the good work.- 666 replies

Firefox 2 and unresponsive scripts: What purpose do they serve?
submix8c replied to Nomen's topic in Windows 9x/ME
XP/2K3 FF-12 NoScript Msg - "A script not responding. Continue running it?" Response - "Yes, and always do it." I'll sometimes get a delay from (it's "working...") scripts, but they do eventually complete. I can't remember if FF2 had that option. -
Final ESU Updates for Windows 7 SP1 (Retired!)
submix8c replied to steven4554's topic in User Contributed Update Lists
I'm in and have the files. Thanks, bphlpt. (I hope I "spelled" your "name" right over there in the Introduction section.) @jaclaz - You have no clue how many times I re-captcha'ed and the MP3's were apparently translated English->DrunkRomulan. Ennyhoo, doesn't matter. I'm the proud owner of a membership in another loony-bin geeker forum. (yay!)- 666 replies

Final ESU Updates for Windows 7 SP1 (Retired!)
submix8c replied to steven4554's topic in User Contributed Update Lists
@bphlpt - Holy crud! Been haunting the website for a long time, but when I attempt to create an account (required for those downloads) the Captcha's are god-awful (unreadable black/white overlaps, even when downloaded and enlarged) and the audios are unintelligible (fuzzy overlaps). I've repeatedly tried to do it. WTH??? Good luck, anyone else trying it. bphlpt - could you inform someone over there to lighten up (fix it so usable - see above) so someone can actually get signed up? Attached ZIP has an example of each. (Note1: unusable to anyone else since they change, so...) (Note2: doing it here since there's no way to transmit this to Wincert.) ! Wincert.zip- 666 replies

@jaclaz - @YouOtherGuys - Nearly everything you find for those older OS' originated right here on MSFN (or other Forums that we haunt). Search before you wind up getting something bogus or a *very* old version. Hint - If you can't find it via *our* search (the "gear" at the top), use Google and include site:msfn.orgto isolate your search to this forum. HTH

What causes Windows to lock up, and what to do about it?
submix8c replied to CamTron's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Per the above Flash version - this is the best I can provide for the non-IE version. https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/47863958f73407ffe2edf19ea8d0fddeeb3aa83e49942799d7fb2ec773b383c3/analysis/ I have it (archived), it can be found, and I can't/won't provide a direct link (per the rules). I'm treading as it is. The above will tell you specifically what to look for (hash, filename, etc.). Good luck. (hint - look for "flash_player_11.0.1.152_other_browsers.exe") HTH- 22 replies

Attach the HDD to another PC as a secondary drive. Create a folder on the Primary Drive. Copy the HIVE files to that Folder. "CMD.EXE->REGEDIT->Load Hive" whichever one you think may be giving problems.from the copy (give a "dummy" name". I would suggest before you start messing with the HIVE files that you run a virus scan against the Secondary drive to give you comfort that malware isn't the culprit. If you *do* mess with the HIVE files, remember to unload them and copy them back to the Original *if* you make changes. Be aware that you'd *better* have a backup of the *originals* in case you mess up. HTH

I stand corrected. UserID is "System". The WinBuilder allows to add a UserID (but not logged on) to allow Incoming Shares. Ther's also a facility to allow logon on to a Network Share on other PC's. Now, one may ask why would you want a User Profile within it (based on above)?

There is, however, in a WinBuilder (not really a PE at *all*) and is fully functional "Mini-OS". http://winbuilder.net/ But you knew that, jaclaz. BTW, thx, Trip for the reminder of that Topic.

JFYI "Vista Capable" - http://www.tomsguide.com/us/lawsuit-vista-capable,news-621.html http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/10/06/vista_capable_windows_update/ http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Windows-Vista-Windows-XP/upgrade-from-xp-to-vista/td-p/14976 Scroll down halfway before you get excitable - http://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-ceo-steve-ballmer-biggest-regret-windows-vista You must have "upgraded" some hardware and/or it really *was* "Vista Capable". Google "designed for xp" "vista capable" logoRemove "logo" to get more results. And here's your sticker - http://www.dailytech.com/Class+Action+Suit+Airs+Intel+and+Microsofts+Vista+Dirty+Laundry/article10904.htm

The latest Chrome is a (*cough*) hog, IMHO. I tried it and, nope, don't like it. Space eater, too. Now, as for PaleMoon, never tried it. I've stuck with FireFox. You might also note this. 'Nuff said!

Your Computer *should* be able to Boot to a USB Stick, even the 16GB one. It can be made bootable with RMPrepUSB. Look through this Topic - http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/157-install-windows-from-usb/ This one is a good start for help - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/120444-how-to-install-windows-from-usb-winsetupfromusb-with-gui/ The USB has to be *made* Bootable because they aren't provided that way when purchased (made for storage only). Have you looked at the Pinned Topics here? http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/8-windows-9x-me/ This one has the "important" topics - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/95815-important-stickified-pinned-959898-seme-topics/ Read these topicsin particular... Greater than 1gb RAM - http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=118097 HDD Greater than 137gb - http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=129027 HTH

The motherboard - http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/P4i65G/ A SATA Topic - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/149743-question-about-using-a-sata-drive-with-windows-98se/ Post #6 mentions the IAA software, so yes, true it works for GT137gb HDD. You *may* want to install the correct/latest Chipset drivers. re: "crap" - WHAT? Was jaclaz wrong about "wasted space" per the Cluster Size and the *appropriate* tool and alignment then? IOW, it would be *best* to have two partitions within the limits to prevent this (as he said). So *no* not "crap", unless you *really* want to dispute our resident expert. BTW, google "windows 98se" sata driverspulls MSFN up SECOND on the list.

Windows 95 2.1GHz CPU Limit BROKEN!
submix8c replied to LoneCrusader's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Well... Wrong Floppy. Do *not* use it as it will *not* give you CD-ROM drivers! I thought you created one from here? http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm "Windows 95 Version B" has several "generic" CD-Rom drivers. Both "Windows 98 OEM" and "Windows 98 SE OEM" has the OAKCDROM driver (which *should* work). Note: Win98SE BootDisk Floppy (when you boot to it) creates a Ramdrive. *IF* you already have a HDD Partition ("C:")then it will be assigned "D:" and CD/DVD will be "E:". If you do *not* have an HDD Partition then you *will* get a message indicating that *and* Ramdrive will be "C:" and CD/DVD will be "D:". This is why you should be doing "Step#1/Step#2" with *this* downloaded Floppy. Correction to instructions: 5 - "DIR E:\WIN95\*.*" (*should* be the DVD-Drive and *should* list the Install Folder) * - At this point, if it does *not* list the DVD Contents, we have a problem... 6 - "COPY x:\WIN95\*.* C:\WIN95" (x=CD Drive Letter, *better* be "D") BTW, after you run SETUP, do *not* create another Startup Disk as it *will* overwrite your 98SE Boot Floppy. You *can* make another one later from the OS. Maybe (doubt it), but don't you have a Power Adapter for it? Just turning it on without one *will* drain it. Sorry to hear that. And you're welcome. If you *do* have a Power Adapter, by all means try using my instructions. I've completed a Test Install of 95B using them on a VirtualPC as we speak. Several Driver items need to be installed (Quesion Marks in Device Manager for e.g. Intel) but it does run. I have also prepared instructions to transfer Win98SE CD/DVD files to the Win95B Boot disk (altered AUTOEXEC.BAT/CONFIG.SYS) if you choose to attempt this by following my (corrected) instructions *to the letter*. BTW, several of us are oldsters (jaclaz as well - sorry, dude) but we have more experience, so don't feel bad. Later. -
@jaclaz (and Radish, the OP) - curious, wouldn't the MBR *maybe* have special code for an Fn (whatver "n" may be) to access the Recovery Environment? And a fair warning that *some* OEM's actually allow "backing up" certain files/folders to (e.g.) the System partition (e.g. HP's "Backup and Restore"). Example: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01673043
-
If that's an "unknown DOC" file (e.g. you don't know what it is and it shouldn't be trusted), you're asking for it, IMHO. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/285514 The above link answers your question, but not what to do if you shouldn't have run that Macro in the first place.

how to install directx 8.0b on windows 95 / directx 8.0a SDK
submix8c replied to cov3rt's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Well... Now, all of the other "replace" files (#1->#7) have *only* to do with the SDK, so that you may/*must* perform #9/#10. That leaves #8 as the only relevant *operational* file, right? Besides DirectX is an *add-on* and has nothing to do with the OS, right? So, the SDK seems absolutely unnecessary. 1 - Install DX8.0a 2. Get the 8.0b package, unzip, and replace file in #8 above *** Done! Here, do a little light reading (from Wikepedia of all places) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX Please note the Direct3D reference (the only relevant file). -
how to install directx 8.0b on windows 95 / directx 8.0a SDK
submix8c replied to cov3rt's topic in Windows 9x/ME
The files would be from MS and it's a "replacement" Update (really odd). http://www.activewin.com/articles/2001/dx8b.shtml http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=497781 http://www.abxzone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9470 A particular reason you need the "b" one? (ref. what's to be replaced) -
Windows 95 2.1GHz CPU Limit BROKEN!
submix8c replied to LoneCrusader's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
If you seen the (line 5) E-drive, then that would be your CD that you *should* be using and it *does* see it. That is, unless that's your Partition on HDD from previous attempts (doubt it). "I tried creating a startup floppy on the Sony but it does not have CD support" <-makes absoulutely *no* sense based on your other statements. Now, can tell us what lists on the D-Drive by doing a DIR from the Floppy's Command Prompt? (see next paragraph) You should have absolutely *no other devices* plugged in, including a USB Stick/Drive when trying to follow my instructions. Remove *all* items attached *except* inserting the Floppy Boot and the CD into the DVD Reader. DOS (the Booted Floppy) should *only* see itself (A:), the HDD (C:), and the CD (D:). -
Drivers for Windows 2000 for ASRock QC5000-ITX/WiFi motherboard?
submix8c replied to chrv80's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
A wee bit of info on the USB3 - http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=6269 BTW, Google on the VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxx string to get some (potential) driver links. WARNING: Some sites want you to download a "downloader". DO NOT DO IT! Usually they have a "Step 1 / Step 2 / Step 3" verbiage associated with it to "install" something. These are Downloader programs and are abig red "Uh-uh!" flag. HTH. -
