  1. I found 30 or so updates installed on 22/11/2014. I downloaded from the media creation tool onto a usb stick and installed windows on 19/01/2018. How were these updates installed?
  2. Our new insurance company requires alot of documents to be faxed between us, doctors, and them. I know it sounds ridiculous(and I agree) but it is what it is. We do not own a fax machine nor really want to purchase one. However we do own 4 old computers that have modems but 3 out of 4 use a ISA interface and the 4th(Only one that doesn't work) uses a pci modem. Our current PC does not have any ISa or PCI slots just PCI express. Eventually I plan on building a computer that will have a PCI slot but thats a different story. Would it be a doable Idea to use the best computer out of the 3(Pentium II 333mhz, 112b ram) as a fax machine using windows Fax and Scan? Would this actually work and be feasible(besides being slow as molasses)? It currently runs Windows 98 and Windows 2000.
  3. 2018 Windows 8 Mega Tweaks

2018 Windows 8 Mega Tweaks v 7.1 I've uploaded more than 200 tweaks in HTML format to make it easier to see helper files and folder and file paths that need editing; just unzip the files and click on tweaks.html file. All the helper scripts are perfectly safe text files that you must change to a suitable file extension to work. Streamlined and updated in the Windows Post Install config.js file Fixed some broken hyperlinks All registry files are discreet, and not combined, for easier reading. New 3rd party tweaks for Classic Shell and 7-zip Can reliably disable Microsoft system tasks that don't respond to the old "schtasks /change /disable" command Scripts to remove Windows 8 and & Windows 7 telemetry features, including those in Nvidia's latest video drivers. Expanded and improved section on adding "Shell New" items Adds several new clean install tweaks, including automated "F8" Windows 8 Legacy Boot Install Automate trim command on SSD drives with the correct commands syntax through scheduled tasks Script to automatically write the exact date of a Windows clean install on Windows System Property Page File: Tweaks_71.7z CRC-32: 930bea38 MD4: be6a78ef7233bb94a458c17600d54ea6 MD5: c5cbbdb7eea82585928682faae7ab314 SHA-1: 9836c8003b235199f0af7cc3a4225f5f6299df0f More details and download here.
  4. Always something...

Hi. I'm usually a graphic designer, but I love to play with tech. Lately, I've been concentrating on phones too much. My old PCs were just always working, like troopers, until the past year and a half or so, and then its been one thing after another. I have 4 laptop issues... A Sony Vaio has a lid that won't open much (broken hinges, apparently) that I was using with an external monitor, but recently lost the USB functionality. It is a shame, this one was my favorite. A Toshiba Satellite with 6 USB 2.0 ports has been a champ, but gets way too noisy and I can't use it at night or I would wake the house. The grinding of the fan creates headaches and distracts me from my work. I take way too many breaks trying to deal with it and don't get enough done. Still awaiting the new fan to show up from Amazon. The Gateway I bought never did work right. It has an i5 processor and picked it up used, but it just crashes without warning intermittently. It just dies. I hear a -tick- when I think the SSD shuts down (at the same time that), the screen goes black and I realize the power is off (and my heart sinks). I've scanned memory, it doesn't appear to be the issue. There is also a tiny netbook I dropped and cracked the screen up, now I have to use the spare HDTV as a monitor, but it is too slow with only a 1 GHz Atom processor. It just isn't capable of the graphics I need to do. I have 4 old Desktops, but I cannot get any of these to update to Windows 10 like I had gotten all of the laptops to update to 10. My son's tower runs Windows 7, but it can't make it to 10 (it doesn't support LAHF/SAHF or PrefetchW). My old dual core tower is a bit older than his, so it's bound to not make it, either. It's still running XP, so I don't take it online. I have just dug my mother's Compaq Presario out of her desk. I was extremely surprised to see how it supported firewire and had enough USB ports to actually use it for stuff, including charging cellphones. The drawbacks are that it was running a bone stock version of Windows XP, has some sort of proprietary HDD mounting system (Do Compaqs use HDD rails for mounting drives?), and now I find out that the AMD Sempron processor won't run many web browsers (they require the SSE2 instruction set). Plus, I want to run an anti-virus solution, but I am picky (avoiding Russian and Ukranian solutions, so no Kaspernitsky or AVG, and of course it needs to run on XP). It has 1.25 GB (minus shared video memory), and I plan on maxing it out to 2 GB by ordering a 1 GB stick of PC2700 and eventually adding a small dedicated video card. I did get it to upgrade to Windows 7 on an extra hard drive, but it doesn't have enough RAM once its maxed-out for graphics, so this is just a PC to use to stay online for email/web when I need a backup. I just started cannibalizing the small eMachines tower I have, it is really old, crashes intermittently to a blue screen, so maybe I shouldn't've even included it here as soon it won't have enough parts to be considered a PC anymore. I have been playing IT guy for my self employment for so long now that I haven't gotten much else done. I plan on installing Linux on anything that can't support Windows 10, and still have to fix these new issues with the laptops (awaiting parts or parts money for each project, now). Still struggling, always something. I would love to get back to my graphic design, logos and finish creating my websites, but instead I have to struggle just to get PCs working again, constantly. I suppose that will never end, though. Somehow I have to get enough money together to buy a new, really good laptop (or build another tower with new components on the cheap). I can use some of these machines with Linux, and it looks like I will have to because of security concerns, but since I need Photoshop, Premier, Illustrator, and other hefty Windows/Macintosh only creativity applications, that's really not a great alternative for me. The Linux machines will actually wind-up as email/web and gaming machines when they have to run Linux.
  5. SRP and all sorts of security are interesting stuff for me, but they have their own drawbacks - they require 'higher' editions of Windows, at least the Professional one, to be fully functional, and they are hard to configure in home environment (except when you like a lot of risky experimenting). In Home editions of windows, many of it's features are still working, the problem is that they can only be edited by manually editing the registry, which is far from convenient. Someone thought for a workaround for that and released a program named Hard_Configurator - SRP GUI for VIsta Home and higher. the program does not offer full replacement for solutions built into Enterprise editions of Windows and is not a complete interface for these SRP. Instead, it offers easy to use way to enable some hardening tweaks and set them up in a way that fits needs of not-so-advanced users. And, well, dev's site will be more informative than me: https://github.com/AndyFul/Hard_Configurator And, uh, as we have some experienced IT pros here, I'd love to hear your opinion about that and how does it compare to the 'Real' SRP :>
  6. First I must say Im not into programming(anymore). And never really saw a line of code thats used for webkit compiling. I recently got hands of this version of Webkit "WebKit-SVN-r131444".I dont know if someone here ever compiled webkit for windows or another platform ever. So if I get no answer Im not disappointed. I found this online sites mentioning how to "build with webkit on windows" http://web.archive.org/web/20071217211734/http://webkit.org/building/build.html http://blog.ashodnakashian.com/2011/09/building-webkit-on-windows/ I linked to an version of the webkit homepage thats only available on the webarchive.org because the same instruction isnt accessible anymore. I would have a lot of questions probably as I never tried a thing like that. But the most important one for me is just one: Is it really possible with these descriptions to build compile a webkit version like the one I mentioned above? I think the version I would use is from 2012. What I want to try is to compile it and see what operating systems would be able to use the compiled files. Theres also a "minibrowser.exe" file in the archive. Just that you know why Im asking this. It sure is alot of time to prepare and compile that stuff. Since I dont want to waste the time when maybe the missing of one program /tool /file necessary command required could spoil it all im just asking now. Since the webkit homepage from now doesnt provide any tutorials for Webkit on Windows anymore, knowing if this is actually possible is very important for my decision to try it out. So if someone has ever tried a thing like this or knows the tutorials /or webkit ,I would be happy to read about the things that come to your mind. I know this is a long comment but really only my question is from importance.
  7. I am using the following code in my visual basic script to enable system protection in windows 10 and it works perfectly fine. I am looking for a visual basic code that checks if protection on particular drive is enabled or not? and Sets Max usage to 15%. If Not WScript.Arguments.Named.Exists("elevate") Then CreateObject("Shell.Application").ShellExecute WScript.FullName _ , WScript.ScriptFullName & " /elevate", "", "runas", 1 WScript.Quit End If Dim oSR Set oSR = GetObject("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!root/default:SystemRestore") oSR.Enable("C:" & "\") If someone can highlight the version of windows this code is compatible for, that would be great.
  8. I've cut up windows 10 with NTlite and cumulative updates fail unlike 7/8.1. I can see in CBSlog and DISM which parts fail. Is there a way to repack the updates like was done on win2k/etc on this board while removing the offending components? I only need to remove 2: Failed to pin deployment while resolving Update: Package_804_for_KB4016635~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.1.0.4016635-2293_neutral from file: (null) [HRESULT = 0x80073701 - ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING] Failed to bulk stage deployment manifest and pin deployment for package:Package_6236_for_KB4015217~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.1.8 [HRESULT = 0x80073701 - ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING] and of course in DISM DISM Package Manager: PID=1632 TID=1600 Failed opening package Microsoft-Windows-DiagTrack-Internal-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.10240.16384. - CDISMPackageManager::Internal_CreatePackageByName(hr:0x800f0805) MS hates when you removed telemetry but I'm not sure if that was the main failure.
  9. Hello, I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I am looking for the Dutch offline installers of Windows Live Essentials for Windows XP (2009?) and Windows Vista (2011) Does anybody know where I can find them? Microsoft deleted the software from their website, which is no suprise because it's Microsoft Thanks

  11. I have two doubts: 1. Does KB3172605 (July 2016 update rollup) replace KB3156417 (May 2016 update rollup)? 2. Integrate KB3170455 (update for Windows Print Spooler)? 12. BSOD Help

Hey Ya'll, I know it's been awhile since I've posted on this forum but I am in need of your expertise to help me figure out my computer's issues before I go waste money and build a whole new system. First and foremost, my PC specs. Intel Core i5-3570K G. Skill Ripjaws 16GB DDR3 2133 ASUS P8Z77-V LK 128GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti Windows 10 Pro 64-bit I don't have anything overclocked. BIOS is updated to the most reason update. I've normally been getting these BSOD with Minidumps once a month, now its happening 2-3 times a week, sometimes 3 times in a day but without BSOD or Minidump..PC will just freeze with sound on a constant loop. I've ran Memtest-No error found, stress test - passed and other various tests and they all passed. Even downloaded Intel's CPU diagnostic tool which also passed. I've checked out the minidumps with BlueScreenView and they all say caused by driver ntoskrnl.exe, except for the one I got this morning which was caused by hal.dll. I've updated all the drivers I could, but for some reason windows keep installing a USB 3.0 driver from 2006?! I'm not sure if that is the cause or not. I already reinstalled Windows, more than once and still get these issues which leaves me to believe its either hardware or driver issue. Here is a link to the mini-dumps I've zipped up if anyone is willing to have a more in-depth look at them..hopefully finding the root cause and hopefully its something that can be fixed before I build a whole new system. 13. Would this PC run 9x?

I am interested in running some older OSes. Particularly, Windows 98/ME. Would these specs work out? And if they don't what could I run? It's a Dell Optiplex 780: Core 2 Duo 2.93GHz 8GB RAM Dell 03NVJ6 Motherboard Intel Q45/Q43 Express Chipset A 250GB SATA HDD (with legacy options) SoundMAX Integrated HD Audio (if this is for the integrated speaker and the headphone jack will still work, I don't need it) And a Belkin USB Wireless Adapter (fine if i can't use it)
  14. Missing Start Menu Items and Programs

I've had this issue in the past and never could pin-point what was causing it. I think it's one of the tweaks I'm making, since some copies of XP I sent through nLite didn't do this. I slipstreamed harkaz SP4 v3.1b (almost immediately after it came out since I messaged him about it), but this isn't the problem. I've attempted to figure out what was causing this before. I searched Google and here. I'm probably not wording my searches correctly if anyone else has posted on this. I've attached my last session ini. LAST SESSION.INI
  15. Windows ME Latitude D630?

How would ME work on this Latitude? Tried earlier with KernelEx 4.5.2 but no driver would install. The ones essential to me are: Intel GM965 Chipset Sigmatel STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio Dell Wireless 1390 Video drivers
  16. Hi All, New to the forum and looking for some help/advice on a project I am working on. The scope of the project is to turn an old failing Win98 computer into something new that will live on. I am using VMware to accomplish the task of running Win98 on new hardware. ---This part of the project is flawless in operation as I am able to communicate with the equipment as needed. I am using a new HP EliteDesk computer with a Core i7, 8 gigs of ram and Win7 OS. It's the SFF for space requirement reasons. Now on to the issue I am running into. The equipment this computer communicates with has a camera and it needs to talk to the software in the computer in order to do its job. So I am looking for a Video Capture card to make this happen. ---Two Problems stopping this from working: 1) The cards that are compatible with Windows 98 have the wrong slot. 2) The cards that fit the available slots only go back as far as maybe Windows XP. I have done research and I'm just going around in circles. I have a cheep USB Capture Device and obviously it works with Win7 but no support for Win98. (bought for another project) Never did I think it would just work with this setup, I was hoping the USB capture device drivers could be adapted to work with Win98??!! At this point I am looking for some input from someone with more knowledge of Win98 and how things work and or could work. Also on the search for either a USB, X1pciEXP or a X16pciEXP slot capture device compatible with Win98. Thanks for any help you can provide, it's appreciated!
  17. I was wondering if it was at all possible to run windows 98 nativley on new hardware. The built would contain a Pentium G3258,8gb ram,40gb ide drive and ide cd-rom, and a pci graphics card. The pc would also boot linux which would be on a seperate sata harddrive with a sata dvd-rom and use a pci express graphics card. I know you can run 98 with that much ram(change a setting in a file(iv done it before) but am unsure about the processor speed and that its 64 bit. I am aware that Windows 98 will only see one core. I know I could just use virtulization(which I currently do on a difrrent pc) but that takes the fun away.
  18. Hi guys, this tutorial will be showing you how to change the colors and fonts of context menu on Win XP. 1. Right-click on desktop, Select Properties. 2. 20. Hello, I have long wondered if there is some way to prevent icons from automatically scaling in Windows XP. For example, when I am in Windows Explorer in Tiles view (which displays 48x48 pixel icons), and the largest available icon is 32x32 pixels, the 32x32 icon will scale up to 48x48. This is highly undesirable, since it creates jagged edges, and the result is usually horrific! The smaller icon will always scale up to the bigger size; the only exception to this behaviour is when in Thumbnail view. Then the size of the icon is respected, seemingly for the 48x48-pixel icons, i.e., it will make everything scale up to 48x48 instead of the full 96x96 size of the thumbnail. I would think there would be some setting somewhere to change that would fix this strange behaviour, so if anyone has heard of it, I would be ever so greatful to hear of it! Thanks, Thomas
  21. Windows Backup Solution

Hello, I'm looking for a new backup solution. I've been using the "ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery" program supplied with my IBM ThinkPad (my main computer at the moment. It is supposed to basically create disk images, but it is very flaky, poorly supported, and has completely stopped working as of late, i.e., it will not be able to complete a new backup even after leaving it overnight. I've looked at a few other disk imaging programs, but I wonder about peoples' experience with "NTBackup" (shipped standard with Windows NT until Vista). Does this really create a disk image? Does it matter? The "Automated System Recovery Wizard" sounds pretty swell. Is it all it's cracked up to be? Does anyone have actual experience with this? Alternatively, I was thinking of something like DriveImage XML. Let me know what you think! Thanks, Thomas
  22. Hey, I've got an big problem! I just did a clean install of Windows 10 on my computer and now I tried to set all up I need, but all MSI Installer are freezing after a while. Mostly while the Windows Installer are displaying, that it "Create new shortcuts". Of course, I reboot my computer and tried again, but I still have the same issue, but then Windows is telling me, there is another failed installation of any other program and this one will be abort and all the already copied files will delete. Any idea? Mirco
  23. Is there a way to reserve Win 10's without IDENTIFYING the machine? Lets say, I have a Win 8 Pro license from the $14.99 sale that I am not currently using on a machine, as yet? I figured Win 10 upgrades for OEM licenses would be tied to machine and non OEM licenses would be tied to previous License code?
  24. I seem to be unable to create a "fully" working multiboot/install DVD using the "Create Windows 98/ME/NT/2K/XP/2003 all in one installation DVD" I replaced Windows 2003 with Windows 95 (Version C) as I planned to put 2003 on a different DVD with newer versions of windows on it. When I try booting any of the disk I put on there they show an error about not being able to find the setup/installation files. For some reason Win 95 - ME will still work if I type "setup" (D:\WinME\setup for Windows ME installer) and continue normally. Windows NT 4.0 doesn't boot at all and when I attempt editing the iso and add the I386 for WinNT to the root folder it will boot but BSDO when setup starts. Windows 2000 and XP both boot but fail to start at all giving me a "insert Win 2000/XP disk into drive A:" error and I can't find a way to fix that at all. I use UltraEdit (Version 22.0.0.66) and Oracle VirtualBox (Version 4.3.30 r 10610 64-Bit) on Windows 10 Tech Preview 64-Bit (Build 10270) to build/test the ISO. Message me for images/files if you need them. If anyone has any ideas please help or suggest another method of combining these disk to a DVD Iso or USB drive. Guide I used: http://www.magiciso.com/tutorials/miso-create-multi-os-cd.htm Link to images of the errors/iso: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9uFvN9K3tPWfnpmTVJ1VnkzdThQQTNjZ1NuUE53WFdZdk1jQWFTVUtocGZYY3E5Z0lTMms&authuser=0 P.S.: If I posted this to the wrong forum section, just feel free to tell me where it should be or move it there if possible.
  25. Hi, first of all I'm new here, so hi, my name's Jesse. I've recently taken on the interest of building a computer that in my eyes is vintage. A lot of the components will be from around 2005, but my OS will be Windows 2000. Planned specs: Pentium 4 CPU, probably the later hyperthreaded version 4GB RAM DDR2 (Or 3.5 technically, whatever W2K will recognize.) GeForce 7950 GT 512MB GDDR3 500GB HDD (I believe W2K Service Pack 4 natively supports a drive of this size) Some sound blaster sound card may be added later. This is going to be an open bench computer. I did the research of all of these components already and they all have drivers available from manufacturers' websites for W2K. Anyways, I need some advice. I want to make this computer as functional as possible. I plan on getting the unofficial service pack 5 installed already, as well as office 2007. However, I would like: The best browser that still will work on W2K. A later version of itunes, preferably with support for iPhone. Best available version of adobe flash player that will run. Any other software you guys would recommend. Like I said, I am looking to make this computer as functional as possible when compared to a modern computer, but with the vintage feel of an older operating system and hardware. Thank you so much.
