  1. Well, the translation is... ...weird to say the least. (Restart timer bar "time"...)
  2. Can someone clarify what a "valid" vs "invalid (missing?)" MSDOS.SYS constitutes? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/118579 http://www2.yk.psu.edu/~lxn/IST_226/ist_226_win9x_msdossys.htm BTW, the IO.SYS in the "real" WinME is significantly different from the XP/2K3 one (Used the Decompiler). I suppose that this file is what constitutes "DOS7" being referenced? Aside from the "missing" files in the XP/2K3 WinME (EBD), that's the only one that's apparently different. And at the risk of being laughed at because... Wiki - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_ME#Hardware_support_improvements http://web.archive.org/web/20070308152728/http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/archive/fast-boot.mspx
  3. http://www.file-extensions.org/egf-file-extension And the OP wants to change a (one or more) "BMP" (?) inside of it for some odd reason. In addition the OP is Copy/Pasting "snippets" not realizing that many sites don't use code tags that corrupts by inserting spaces and/or garbage. The OP (apparently) wants a "lesson" in replacing said (multiple?) BMP's within said EGF file(s) using ResHacker "script" but tosses just the "syntax" info in. Might we suggest (again) that the OP provide the "script" they're attempting to use. Honest, it probably won't provide any "secrets" by doing so. The OP seem to be reticent/reluctant/obstinate in providing it. We help with *specific* problems, not *generic* (read that as "giving a lesson in a particular scripting language"). It may behoove the OP to work with the GUI and a copy of the File to determine "how it works" and the ResHacker Suffix/FileType Naming Conventions (see next paragraph with link). This is apparently the version the OP is using and referencing. Perhaps the OP might also learn how to use the CodeBox we all use here in the forum as well? (See example above...) http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/ HTH (and settle down, Spanky...)
  4. Googled: memory "number of handles" http://blogs.technet.com/b/markrussinovich/archive/2009/09/29/3283844.aspx This may "attempt" to explain. https://books.google.com/books?id=u7oN-5y7nGsC&pg=PA446&lpg=PA446&dq=memory+%22number+of+handles%22&source=bl&ots=j5lc-IPtn0&sig=vnOvVJRxQvar0IEqku3v8pRTjYY&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CFMQ6AEwCmoVChMIjOn_1sShxwIVS2k-Ch1IoAce#v=onepage&q=memory%20%22number%20of%20handles%22&f=false Setting the maximum (seems to be a Memory+File-I/O relationship) - http://www.techhelpmanual.com/555-dos_fn_67h__set_file_handle_count.html
  5. You bought the PC, it has a Licensed copy of Windows on it, but by doing this, we now control (own) your PC, not you. Good luck with putting any other OS on it. Skynet, here we come...
  6. Not broken. Ignore it. References - http://www.wincert.net/forum/topic/12518-windows-7-x64-and-x86-slipstreamingintegrating-updates-order/ http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/282232-test-update-7-installation-media-post3023807.html?s=1821bf3d879fc08193bdd804ea927f8c#post3023807
  7. Well... ...not real sure I want to clobber mine to find out. The original COA key has already been deactivated. Says so right on the paperwork (which is the Refurb "COA").

  9. Still, if you read the Original Post... And here's a link to Ramdisk98 v1.1 ("Time Limit", don't bother with it.) http://www.programfiles.com/Default.asp?LinkId=13727 Here's what you gave - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/146671-large-ramdrive-in-windows-98/#entry991828 Here's a functional FTP site for it - ftp://ftp.bu.edu/pub/mirrors/simtelnet/win95/diskutl/ I assume the above is not time-limited? Errr - No, but it *does* have a limitation. Soooo.... what now?
  10. AHHHH! Kind of like a Refurb (like I have) that had Vista (SLIC2) then Clean Win7 OEM (but a unique key in this case, locked to this PC) and the original COA key (normally "locked by the Vendor" to a PC) was "deactivated/invalidated" (rendered unusable) at MS. Step 1 - Update your PC to Win10 (using "generic" key) from Win7/8 and activate ("we see you") Step 2 - Wipe it and reinstall (use "generic" key) Clean ("oh, we seen you the first time, so you're good to go')
  11. If you notice on -X- website, only Critical Updates were included, not Optional, like e.g. dotNET or "newer" WMP. Also notice the only updates actually made were for getting the latest Flash Player, which is also an Add-On like the WMP Updates (for the WMP provided with the OS). Please take a look at the Change Log and Footnotes for an explanation of that. Basically, use -X- download *NOW* before MS wipes the updates from the servers -OR- find a suitable Package (e.g. "Post-SP3 Add-On") elsewhere. IOW, dotNET (and Silverlight, newer WMP, etc) has to be done via other methods (as noted). HTH clear up the confusion. ...and note that -X- noted at his website relating to the following - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171814-posready-2009-updates-ported-to-windows-xp-sp3-enu/
  12. @jumper - From the Windows ME link. You see the problem, don't you?
  13. Check your Regional/Language options in Control Panel again. You may have turned off the Taskbar icon.
  14. However you found that it's a Volume Key (I'm assuming KMS?) it would make sense. They will undoubtedly "identify" each of the PC's so they can "lock into" them, so the key may be irrelevant, just the Hardware (when they're finally activated). Perhaps some helpful info? https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn502539.aspx edit - There may be some useful hints (and links) here (Trip's topic) - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174158-post-your-windows-10-upgrade-experience/ edit2 (slightly O/T but interesting info related to upgrade) - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/173752-how-to-avoid-being-upgraded-to-win-10-against-your-will/ ...and I might add you're UPGRADING (maybe "Is your PC qualified and activated?") as opposed to Clean Install ("You need a unique key to install Clean").
  15. This - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2894843 Points to This, indicating "NDP..." - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41398&751be11f-ede8-5a0c-058c-2ee190a24fa6=True And also Points to This - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2844699 That does *not* include an "integrate" switch (NDP..." is described as an Application). HTH
  16. FTR, I already was aware of that (and it indicates such in the Wiki link) and also found said software during search. That's why I suggested as I did. Whether the NTFS idea works, who knows? Besides there will have to be some facility to create the NTFS partition. If the OP can manage to get a commercial version of NTFS98RO (Winternals NTFS for Windows 98? or is it NTFS-Pro?) this may work (?) and it would require a setup of it to function (I've done this on a 98SE and *maybe a WinME - can't remember) as well as the associated 2K/XP files required. BTW, (AFAICR) it (oddly) *does* allow for RW. -BTW, the DiskInternals link gives a link to LINUX READER?- refs and other links - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/110814-ntfs-support-in-win-98seme/ I suppose it's up to the OP to decide which route to take, which may or may not work and may cost $ to find out it doesn't.
  17. "Toss me a hex dump of the MBR." ~ Assisting Person "Nah, too much trouble. I'll just proceed this way." ~ Requesting person Seriously, this would answer a basic question of "Is there some kind of problem there?" and is real easy to do. Then again, it's your choice.
  18. Nope! No can do. (Generally) against the rules, hence the instructions instead. You have the links to the Originals, so why should this be a problem anyway? Get it and patch it. Done!
  19. Not really OT and do continue with jaclaz' guidance. Do nothing other than *exactly* what he suggests. This is due to how different PC's "see" the HDD settings in the BIOS (like many/most older Compaq, a major culprit) that "translates" HDD differently, although I seriously doubt that's the case here.
  20. HDD error?
  21. @PROBLEMCHYLD - Not sure (haven't done that yet) but it might best help if you post an assist request over here - http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/66-programming-c-delphi-vbvbs-cmdbatch-etc/ So it will be noticed by the right people. Please closs-link that one and your post above to "keep it together". Side note: I haven't the time right now to figure it out/help. Sorry
  22. *Two* flash players? Why do you think that? There's definitely one for IE and one for FF but they have no reason to "collide" AFAIK.
  23. XP doesn't "mount" ZIP files either, and am unaware of any (OS/software) that will. Maybe someone else does. ZIP is supported in Windows ME Scroll down). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_ME Of course, it appears to allow creation and extraction only, not update/modify. Hove you done this Google Web Search? mount zip file windowsThere seems to be a number of products but it appears non of them support update/modify either. Well, I found WinMount *but* I don't know if you can install it on Windows ME.
  24. Take a look at this. I had found a thread that indicated you may have a potential problem. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/947821 The thread - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_update/windows-update-hangs-on-checking-for-updates/8868bc6a-036f-41ce-8543-ec5adeecb88c
