  1. Can you program? I don't know? Does anybody know? Get the Source for the two versions in question and have at it.
  2. Seems that MS is allowing sales of Win7 and Win 8.x a while longer on New (Purchased) PC's but then POOF! Gone. http://www.cnet.com/news/microsoft-to-discontinue-windows-7-8-1-on-new-pcs-in-one-year/ Also, it seems that a couple of OEM's are saying "Don't Upgrade to Windows 10". http://www.techradar.com/us/news/software/operating-systems/dell-and-hp-tech-support-warns-against-upgrading-to-windows-10-1308362 Fancy all that!
  3. 1 - So sign up! 2 - You want to do *more* than Integrate fixes? 3 - Nope, sorry. Try Google "Windows 7" (in quotes) and get Media and Key together (while they last).
  4. @pulteny - Instruction Manual? "I don' have no steenking instruction manual." Remember? CD Backup Copies. *ONLY*! And now we know what you chose. Now, the USB "problem". I *still* don't get it. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/172397-win9x-locks-up/#entry1084879 I would *assume* the Gateway in question has Bult-In USB1.1 ports? These *should* be supported. AFAIK, only non-Intel (e.g. Via Chip) would need additional drivers. Now, if the uSP3 doesn't "cure" your USB problem, you'v obviously got something else wrong. Also forget Belarc. Try this so we can see *exactly* what Physical Devices you have. *SOMETHING* is amiss. http://filehippo.com/download_everest_home/ Install it, Run it, HiLite "Devices" (on left pane), go to top and select "Report->Quick Report->Plain Text", "Save To File" it somewhere (default is the Everest Install Folder\REPORT folder), then Upload/Attach it (NOT Copy/Paste, please) here so we can see what the heck is going on!!!!
  5. Good info there, so thanx. BTW - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/22036/IRST-Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST- v11.6.0.1030
  6. WUD for Windows 7 (no longer maintained) BUT... http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/139877-post-sp1-updates-for-windows-7-updated-25032015/#entry1109454 WinToolKit to integrate (it's FREE duh!). http://www.overclock.net/t/1313265/guide-using-win-toolkit-integrate-updates-drivers-customize-windows-7-8 Just remove any Win10 stuff from the WUD (ref. first link). BTW, ntLite is actually free for basic usage. Only the Advanced you don't get unless you pay for it. HTH
  7. Also see this if the silly thing uses EXTn - http://www.ext2fsd.com/ Your NAS has Linux??? Even so, shouldn't it handle Windows partitions as well? NOTE! The above is ongoing development and does EXT2/3/4. (SorceForge project) HTH
  8. This topic. (Wouldn't exactly call it "crossing swords" - maybe in a friendly back-forth manner?) http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/172397-win9x-locks-up/ Hmmm... looking into it now. Mine are designated "System Recovery Kit". I have Four CD's (backup copies, mind you). Also note I'm only looking at Contents and not actually Running this.1 = Rev.1.0 "For Pentium" - Label=Win98SE - Bootable (Seems to be Standard Boot) -- Checks for Gateway PC, creates a RamDrive, kicks off "WINENV" (to select operation via "INSTWIZ.INI"), etc. etc. - Has an Image "RESTORE.IMC" in folder "RESTORE" (HexEdit says "Imagecast") - assuming this is used to "restore"? - Copies the Win98 folder to "C:\CABS" folder - Does othe "stuff" 2 - Rev.1.2 - Nearly identical except newer (?) - Label = 010402_0108 (???) (EasyCD Creator?) -NOTE- So is #1 above *and* these are Backup Copies of Holgram CD's. -NOTE- a file "REBUILD.DAT" in folder "RESTORE" is a program by "StorageSoft" 3 - V2.1 Apps (etc) - Label = SRK#3 (created with CEQUADRAT software - now defunct and bought by AFAICR Adaptec/Roxio?) - Doesn't seem to have much except ISP software, AcrobatReader4, GOBACK (ugh!), BVRP FaxSoftware, and old version of Norton AV, etc. etc. 4 - v14.0 of SRK - Label = SRK#1 *also* created with CEQUADRAT - ? ALSO Bootable ? - Has (seemingly) all the Drivers for all OS NT4->Win2000, -- *INCLUDING* The Intel Chipset Install "Version 2.10RC Build 0001" dated July 19, 1999 Note - You *did* install Chipset drivers (above) right? I'm seriously confused as to why your USB doesn't work. I noted the last post you made in the other Topic you left the "USB Stick" issue hanging... I guess I could "hack" one of the two Recovery ones to work on a Non-Gateway Intel Board. The only Gateway's I have a "newer" (I recycled the older ones).
  9. Are the devices connected and BIOS Settings as per Page 1-20 of your manual? It seems pretty specific and indicates that support is there (in Legacy Mode).
  10. Your manual doesn't say so, but you can boot to a USB. Read this - http://www.abxzone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48502 Seems your BIOS needs (as previous posters stated the oddities) - 1 - Put the Stick in (AFTER prepared - see above posters) 2 - Power Up 3 - Change BIOS Boot Order (apparently the F8 Boot Pop-Up menu won't show it) 4 - Boot and update via AFUDOS program (follow instructions) 5 - Usually the PC Reboots afterwards Notice that using an AUTOEXEC.BAT to call AFUDOS isn't a wise idea (some manufacturers have that silly stuff pre-made). Enter the commands manually. That way you get the opportunity to back up first. READ your Manual to see "how it's done" (Floppy). 6 - Pray HTH
  11. See this. It's called "User Contributed". www.msfn.org/board/topic/139877-post-sp1-updates-for-windows-7-updated-25032015/#entry1109454 HTH
  12. Well, THANK you! And I'm glad it worked! BTW, nowhere in your original post did you say "I clicked on SETUP.EXE on the DVD." What we're observing here is "Running OS is consuming Memory so Upgrade has insufficient, therefore booting to DVD and allowing Setup to use any and all Memory works, since no Running OS is using any". See? There's why Tripredacus said what he said. THEREFORE, we now have the logical explanation of how it was attempted and why it failed. <sheesh!>
  13. NO SIR! I can read. Post #1 says "PROBLEM!" and Post #2 says "SOLUTION!" Now, Post #3 says "WAS SOURCE PHYSICALLY ON TO-BE-UPDATED PARTITION?" <crickets...> I guess we're done here since you refuse to answer to Post #3. (Guess I'll give that scenario a shot myself to prove/disprove the point?) P.S. You *are* aware of the Install Sequence? *WHAT* "exe" are you talking about? (And *that* makes no sense!) WinPE is in a WIM as are the Install Files. Go open them with 7-Zip if you wish.
  14. Have you done this? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2832609
  15. Yes, thank you, we already are well aware of ImgBurn as a free software. However, the only drawback is it's (apparently) not Open Source and still has some drawbacks. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ImgBurn I just "plugged in" the ISO Recorder (to the topic and yes, kind of Off-Topic) as a simplistic "dumb function" Add-On to the Built-In XP (SPTI) Burn functionality. It's Open Source and not really that clever (AFAICT) compared to ImgBurn.
  16. I'm sure this will be useful. Could you provide the links to the Original Files (before your Modification) as well?
  17. Just to chime in *one* *more* *time*. Opticork, I'm not *accusing* you of anything except *never answering my Q* about *where* the Source was located initially (if you can call that an accusation or a point of argument). I *also* did *not* say that *you* were doing it from USB. Didn't you notice I said *EYE* said I did via USB and that's an alternative to DVD? Do we have some sort of Language Barrier to overcome or are you just being obssinate and argumentative? On that note, screw it, I give up. The next person that has *that* problem will never know what *you* did (step-by-step) that caused the initial failure, *only* the "solution". Thank you for your contribution. @Trip - I'm out, and thanks for additional info.
  18. Maybe it's trying to boot to the "new" SATA (no BOOT code, so blinks and does nothing). Check your SATA connectors and/or BIOS Boot Sequence.
  19. ... OR USB!!! (???) I installed to a friend's with only... 1gb RAM. Again, it makes no sense! If I can Install from USB (a separate HDD/Partition), then what's the real problem? I'll gladly give you links to it all (heck many/most/all are already linked to from REBOOT.PRO and MSFN.ORG). And you *never* said *where* the Install Source was located when it *failed*, so I'm not *really* sure your "solution" makes sense. All you stated was "Put it on a DVD". Repeating this doesn't explain the base problem you had (since I did it with 1gb).
  20. Not trying to pick an argument, but please do re-read my previous post. You're misunderstanding. And I never said *your* PC. The Q stands - *how* (where was the source initially located) were you attempting this? It *may* help another to *not* make the same mistake.
  21. "But I have a Toyota and I *insist* i be allowed to insert a V8 engine, or vice-versa, otherwise Toyota has a *bad* design."
  22. For non-3d-Party-apps, "net use" in a BAT (e.g. Autoexec) is the way to go (did that 8yrs ago in a VM to a Shared USB printer). But thanks for the App links, though. (chippied *chipped in so I would remember the topic...) ( OK, now I'm a "chippie" )
  23. ??? There are two forms of these CD's.One is a Blow-Away and slap down a new one (an IMAGE!). The other is Blow-Away and *YOU* do the Install. In the Second case, there would have been another folder with Gateway-Specific USB Drivers. OK, pulled out a BackUp. A Bootable Gateway "System Recove Kit" (SRK) -actually THREE variations-. It (they) has (have) a "RESTORE" folder in it used to "Restore" from an Image. Another is labeled "SRK#1" and only contains multiple OS drivers folders. You *are* aware that you have to have Chipset Drivers installed before anything else, right? Last one is labeled "SRK#3" and has Applications and (ugh!) Gateway's Norton Goback on it. I think you're just a bit confused. PLEASE post *exactly* what you did in what order. I *do* have the Gateway SRK right here.
  24. What in the world are you talking about? This? http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3102
  25. ??? So were to trying to Upgrade from within the XP Partition from a flat file or ISO stored in it? If so, nope, since it installs from a WIM, not individual files. Install from anywhere except the actual partition (incl a USB).
