  1. I'm a bit late to the announcement but this is extremely sad news for me. I credit Den a lot for me becoming a moderator here on MSFN. I still remember he offered the position to me to which I humbly and graciously accepted it. We had some good discussions back and forth and because he was originally into Windows 98 like I was, we easily found common ground that way. Den was a very kind, cordial, and courteous person. When I first heard he was diagnosed with cancer, I was deeply saddened. I lost both my grandparents to cancer and my mother is a cancer survivor, so I don't like cancer very much to say the least. As optimistic as he seemed to be about keeping the cancer at bay, I was really hoping he'd return one day like nothing ever happened. But he'd go months without any sort of an update and that was very worrying to me. Now the worst has happened, but he is at peace now and pain-free, which is the best thing out of a horrible situation like this. Rest in Peace buddy, until we meet again!

  2. Sad news for everyone here at MSFN. One of our forum supervisors, Dencorso, passed away on October 24th, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Apparently he was still upbeat and optimistic about the future a few weeks before he passed. My memories of Den go back quite a few years. He was incredibly helpful to me with technical problems, which is what this board is all about of course, initially mainly with Windows 98, and latterly with Windows XP. He was immensely supportive too when I first became a moderator here, something I will always be grateful for. He was definitely one of the good guys, and will be sorely missed here. Please add your memories here of working with Den. Thanks, Dave.

  8. Brief Update. So the search for updates in WUv4 works thanks @WinFX again only unfortunately results.asp is missing because it was not archived properly. It redirects to splash.asp?page=3. That means we can't view or install the updates. I think that we will find a solution for this problem. The Update Catalog is the next project. Here some screenshots:

  21. I am so sad. He was a great person. I knew him since my first days on MSFN, many, many years ago, and besides the public interactions on the board we had a lot of correspondence via PM's, both on computing and on a whole range of different topics, from cinema and TV to art and linguistics (he could read and understand very well Italian and I can understand a very little Portuguese, we had a common interest in Latin - as root of both languages - and we often exchanged opinions on these and many other things), I considered him a friend. I will greatly miss him and our exchanges. Besides his great work in helping and advising other people on technical matters, he was always polite and just (as a moderator), while often managing to keep a veil of humour in his posts. He told me about his illness, describing it as a "a quite mean cancer", from the tone of his latest messages he was fighting fiercely against it, and was hoping to defeat it only one month before, at the end of september. May he R.I.P. jaclaz

  28. I think (but do not quote me on this) that it may work, though I don't see the actual scope of this replacing of the processor, the notebook has probably a Core i3 or i5, there shouldn't be much difference in speed/performance replacing the original processor with a Pentium 6100, they seem very similar, at least on this comparison: https://technical.city/en/cpu/Core-i3-380M-vs-Pentium-P6100 Maybe if it has a Celeron, there would be some improvement, but I doubt it will be much, if any: https://technical.city/en/cpu/Celeron-P4600-vs-Pentium-P6100 Also the Fujitsu BIOS might be locked to the default processor installed in factory, clock speed of the P6100 seem to be same as the Celeron, but different from i3 and i5. IMHO all in all such an upgrade (which seems more like a same-level-grade) could be risky/problematic (if possible at all) without bearing any noticeable advantage. jaclaz

  31. RDP is only used in actual installations. Windows Media Player 11 addon, you can use nLite and RVMI for .NET and C++. RVMI lets you resolve filenames. Add this name after the _Addon file. If you don't add it, RVMI will not see the file. You can skip some methods if you already use addon.

  33. Getting later Intel graphics for the Intel HD 4000 working properly may be very tricky. If one gets it to work, that means any Intel graphics from Haswell and up will also work with Vista (Haswell graphics do work with Vista if you use the XP version, but you get no Aero interface. Kaby Lake and later may also work by simply grabbing the mods for them and installing away, but don't quote me on this), although you will still have the Haswell+ bugs, which won't resolve by simply installing the graphics driver (otherwise the person that got the XP Haswell driver to work under Vista would have seen all problems disappear). I also sent you a PM too!

  34. First I want to say "Thanks!" @roytam1 for all these new builds released nearly every week and the permission to mirror them on my own website! Can't remember when I did that last time... Your work is really appreciated by all who are writing here and additionally a lot of silent users! And not to forget "Thanks!" to all supporters and contributors! Second Sorry for posting a bit late, I'm still worn out by SARS-CoV-2 - nothing really bad, I'm just some kind of exhausted/sluggish. Third The mirror of latest ArcticFox 40, BNavigator 0.9, Firefox 45ESR, IceApe 52, IceDove 52, K-Meleon 1.5.x/74/76, MailNews 52, New Moon 26.5/27/28, RetroZilla, RZ browser and Serpent 52/55 builds by @roytam1 has been updated -> soggi.org - tools. changelog: - added latest BNavigator 0.9 20221126 build - added latest IceApe 52 20221126 build - added latest IceDove 52 20221126 build - added latest K-Meleon 76 20221126 build - added latest MailNews 52 20221126 build - added latest New Moon 27 20221126 builds - added latest New Moon 28 20221126 builds - added latest Serpent 52 20221126 builds - added latest Serpent 55 20221126 builds To don't lose track of things I want to update too someday... todo: - add various flash player versions - add FlashFix for WinXP - add VLC 2.2.8 (WinXP non-SSE2) - add polyfill addons ------------------------------------------- I don't have this backspace problem myself, just thought that this input may help someone!? I have this "YT problem" too, but thought it is related to latest hot s*** YT uses to render the page. But nevertheless YT still works...yeah it's extremely slow, I know. After doing a reconnect to my ISP I got an IP from a completely different IP range and could connect to the former FTP with WinSCP, the ladder still fails. So my IP (range) was the problem, it just has been blocked. This FTP is very old, has a lot of important files and I don't know how long it will be available in the future. So I begun to mirror the two directories which are important to me (/pub/Hardware/stuff/ and /pub/Hardware/vendor/) - still not finished (11.7 GiB until now), if I get 50 kb/s I can be really happy (the FTP is the slow part, not my internet connection). But nevertheless: Thank you, I really appreciate your efforts! BTW Welcome back! BTW2 I would recommend WinSCP instead of FileZilla. The latest version (portable) still works under WinXP and up - you can also install WinSCP 5.15.9 (XP) / 5.17.5 (Vista) and replace the executable with the one from the latest portable version (actually 5.21.6). kind regards soggi

  38. @j7n It may work if you set the user agent like you're using the newer version of Firefox, eg. Firefox 100. It doesn't seem to mind official Pale Moon user agent either, so I assume you should be able to get it working if you use the new New Moon at least.

  41. The grub4dos (normal and for UEFI) is available already compiled on its github page: https://github.com/chenall/grub4dos/releases There are usually no issues in having a "base VHD" with the OS and another attached VHD with all the programs (though not all "portable" programs are really-really fully portable) As a side note there is a relatively new feature of grub4dos (for UEFI) that allows using differential VHD's, that probably would be what you want to achieve, a "base", immutable, OS (in a VHD) and everything else on a "child" VHD. But I believe you are wanting too much all together, IMHO you should start with a simple - surely working - approach first, to get the hang of tools and methods, try this thingy by Wimb: http://reboot.pro/index.php?showtopic=22621 jaclaz
