I didn't realize that people would find out so soon about my father's passing. I wanted to express my appreciation of the impact he has had for many of you with all his work on Windows. I got to hear about it for years over meals and I never realized how many people found value in his patches. It is a busy time right now but I did want to clear the air regarding the patches. I would like them to continue to be distributed, for his work to be remembered and to be beneficial to others. So, please, freely distribute what you may have in terms of the work my dad did. When things are more settled, I will see what I can do regarding anything missing he might have had available and whatever relevant material there might be that someone could use to further pursue his work.

EXE install_wim_tweak.exe install_wim_tweak_NET4.6.exe SOURCE win6x_registry_tweak_src_v1.4.7.zip ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before i start i have to say that this tool was originally released by wnuku and that i have just updated it with extra features, colours and bug fixes. The original concept was by Aviv00. This little tool un-hides "packages" like Windows Media Center/Player, IE, IIS, Games, etc... so you can lower the size of your install.wim Top left is un-hiding a specific package, top right is writing the log of available files to a txt file, bottom left is un-hiding all components of an image and finally the bottom right is un-hiding all the packages from current installed OS. install_wim_tweak.exe /? This will show all available options.. install_wim_tweak.exe /p <MountPath> This will unhide all the packages in the selected image install_wim_tweak.exe /o This will unhide all the packages on the currently installed OS install_wim_tweak.exe /p <MountPath> /l This will list all the packages available in the selected image and write them to a text file in the same directory. install_wim_tweak.exe /o /l This will list all the packages available on the installed OS and write them to a text file in the same directory. install_wim_tweaks.exe /p <MountPath> /c Microsoft-Windows-......... This will just inhide the selected component from the selected image, can also be used with /o. If you add /r at the end it will remove the package. Changes made from the original version by wnuku */h will restore them to default (must use without /h first) */n will not create backups (faster) */d will not delete owners keys. */m is no longer needed, will do the task by default */l will output a list of all packages to a text file. */o will use currently installed image. *fixed a bug where it did not work if there was a space in the mountpath. */c <PackageName> will un-hide specific package * using /r with /c will remove the package *Win32Security.dll file is no longer needed *Added new colours, errors are displayed in Red *Fixed bug crashing at end of running *Fixed bug where it cannot unmount registry if something fails *Added specific component selection *Fixed some other bugs *Added an appropriate small icon for the app Also normally you will have to put the specific component name i.e. "/c Microsoft-Hyper-V-Common-Drivers-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.7601.17514" but if for example you put "/c Microsoft-Hyper-V-Common-Drivers-Package" it will show all packages starting with that. Fujianabc present an very easy approach to install Windows 7 NT 6.x fast installer basically it's simply applying the windows image from install.wim and generating the boot files. He also discovered that the drive letter of a Windows 7 image can be (opposed to Vista) easily changed. So I have added that way of installing to WinNTSetup. For the driver installation: Every driver added in NT6.x windows will be added to the driver store. So it's not recommended to add countless driver, but rather more really required ones. NT5.x massstorage driver integration is possible thanks to Mr dUSHA powerful MSSTMake.exe tool To the Unattend option: It's possible to use an unattend.xml to run the Setup unattended. But as the actual WinPE Setup Phase isn't effective in that way of install, all Winpe related settings inside the unattend.xml won't be applied. Ini config file It's possible to save all GUI-settings to a ini file: push Ctrl + S to save all settings to an ini. push Ctrl + L to load all settings from an ini. A WinNTSetup.ini file in the same dir as the app itself will be loaded automatically at startup. It also can be selected via command line: WinNTSetup.exe /cfg:"C:\mysettings.ini" more command line options To install Windows in a VHD file: - requires Windows 7 as OS and Windows 7 Ultimate, Enterprise or Server 2008 R2 as Source - create a partitioned VHD and assign a drive letter (push Ctrl + Shift + V to use build in diskpart wrapper for this) - select the VHD drive as installation drive (make sure you boot drive ist a active primary partition on a physical disk) If you get an Antivirus warning from your AV software, please report it to them as a false positive and let them check it. What is it? OldNewExplorer is the Windows 10 (and Windows 8.1, and 8) shell extension / tweaker which can undo "improvements" to file browsing made in newer Windows version. Everything is optional for your liking. - Restore devices / drives grouping Everything is 'Devices and drives'. That's stupid! O-N-E can restore grouping which made sense in Win7/8. - Restore libraries / remove folders Remove all those folders which were unoptionally added into Windows 8.1 This PC folder and put the libraries back to their place, without registry hacking / breaking apps. - Restore command bar / remove Ribbon Because some people consider it an abomination. - Restore details pane at bottom Same reason; reclaim useful horizontal space. - Improve styling Get rid of some Win7 stuff here and there; improve styling with some built-in visual styles. For themers / skinners, O-N-E can help to override a lot of hardcoded styling in Windows 8, maybe even Start screen! Download https://tihiy.net/files/OldNewExplorer.rar TEST VERSION READ BELOW 100% FREE Stupid FAQ - This is a TEST version, no installer. Potentially dangerous too! - This is for Windows 8.1. Also should work for Windows 8 as well, though 8.1 options do not apply there; - No changes are enabled by default. If something does not apply, try logging off / restarting explorer.exe; - Install is for all users, settings are per-user. For long thoughful posts use email.

First, credit where is credit is due. I originally found this posted in /r/Windows10 by /u/C-Ron. I'm reposting this here for the people that don't browse Reddit so they can benefit from it. Link to reddit post that contains original guide text (as recommended by Tripredacus) First Time Setup Settings App Scheduled Tasks Group Policy Editor Registry Editor Hosts File Or continue to the pastebin link. Doesn't matter to me. And if you want, click here for a hosts file that is complete and total overkill. From what I can tell, it's a list of every Microsoft domain known to man merged with the MVPS domain list. Useful Software/Scripts/Forum Threads Also please remember this is not an exhaustive list so feel free to post things that can improve this post an I'll add it to this post and credit you. Lastly, to paraphrase NoelC: try things for yourself. Keep good notes on what you do, on what works, and save original files. The knowledge gained from the experience of seeing how things work is invaluable. 7/29/15: Changed IPs to as recommended by NoelC. 7/31/15: Expanded telemetry list and added overkill, nuke-from-orbit list. 7/31/15: Reformatted the OP, reflected as many IPs as possible into hostnames, added Techie007's post to the relevant sections, and added gpedit.msc fix for Home users. 8/3/15: Added tomasz86's OneDrive uinstaller and automated services & scheduled tasks command script. 8/5/15: Added useful software/scripts section. 1/9/16: Renamed useful software/scripts to useful software/scripts/forum threads and added stuff to it. 6/26/16: Reformatted to be readable with the new forum software.

TL;DR, there's now an easy way to enable MP4 (H.264 + AAC) HTML5 video support in Firefox on Windows XP using the Primetime Content Decryption Module plugin by Adobe (distributed by Mozilla). Meaning, you could get rid of Flash (with some caveats). The irony of course being that you'd have to use another thing by Adobe , but at least it's something not as prone to security problems. NOTE: If you're suddenly unable to watch videos on Facebook (or any other site) even though you haven't changed anything re: Primetime, you may have to start spoofing your browser UA (user agent) string to work around this problem. See the posts starting here for the specifics. (EDIT October 30, 2017) IMPORTANT: The Primetime CDM plugin can no longer be downloaded from Adobe servers, which means that attempts to automatically download the plugin through Firefox GUI will fail even if you edit the download configuration URL per the old instructions below. From now on, you will have to manually install the plugin for all new Firefox installations and any new profiles you create; see the new instructions below. If you already have the plugin installed, you don't need to do anything. (EDIT July 18, 2017) If you're here because MP4 video has stopped working after you upgraded to Firefox 52.0, see this post. If you still have problems, make sure you have all of the required preferences listed below and their values are set correctly. If you're here because MP4 video has stopped working after you upgraded to Firefox 49.0 or higher, that happens because 49.0 introduces a new pair of preferences. You now need to set media.gmp-eme-adobe.visible and media.gmp-eme-adobe.forceSupported to true; media.gmp-eme-adobe.forcevisible is no longer used. Toggle the Primetime plugin to Never Activate and back or restart Firefox for the pref change to take effect. NEWS July 26, 2016: Unfortunately, but maybe not all that surprisingly: Primetime CDM will not be getting official support on Windows XP after all. Says a Mozilla developer: Not to worry though, this does not appear to have any near-term (<=FF52 ESR) effect on forcing the plugin to work with the same workarounds we've been using all this time. However, just in case Adobe compiles some XP-incompatible Windows APIs into future plugin updates, you may want to save a copy of the gmp-eme-adobe folder from your FF profile or download the v.17 distribution package. (Adobe has removed the package from download but @sdfox7has kindly archived a copy (backup link).) Technically, this plugin has been added to FF for DRMed HTML5 video, but it can be used to play non-DRM as well. It's not officially supported on XP, but hey, neither is XP itself, right? I've been trying it out with FF 46 (later also confirmed with 45, 52 ESR and 47-52) on XP Pro SP3 x86 (with POSReady updates, though I doubt that matters any) for about a week now, and the experience has been pretty encouraging. The vast majority of HTML5 videos have worked without a hitch; ~5% have had 1-2 temporary freezes (the video stops, the audio continues with some crackle), which can be easily worked around by moving the video position slider back a bit and then forward again to where the freeze happened. I've seen only one (1) case of a show-stopper error message about "corruption or unsupported features in video" (quote not verbatim) that couldn't be worked around by jiggling the slider (not a crash, just an error message and the video stopped). You may not necessarily be as lucky, though, as the reason the plugin is not included by default by Mozilla is its reported crashing on some high profile sites. (If you're interested in getting this to work on Windows 2000, be sure to read @blackwingcat's post below in addition to this one, and why not his blog posts (1, 2, 3) as well (in Japanese, but with screen shot images).) To be able to install and operate the Primetime CDM, add and/or set the following FF preferences in about:config (be careful, all of these are cAsE sEnSiTiVe!): media.gmp-eme-adobe.enabled (boolean; true) media.gmp-eme-adobe.forceSupported (boolean; true; FF 49.0+) media.gmp-eme-adobe.forcevisible (boolean; true; FF 45-48, no longer used in 49.0+) media.gmp-eme-adobe.visible (boolean; true; FF 49.0+) media.gmp-eme-adobe.version (string, not integer; 17; required for manual install now that automatic install is no longer an option) media.gmp-eme-adobe.abi (string; x86-msvc-x86 (EDIT: x86-msvc-x64 for 64-bit XP users); not required, you can set it if you want to more closely mimic automatic install) media.gmp-eme-adobe.lastUpdate (integer; 1500000000; not required, you can set it if you want to more closely mimic automatic install) media.gmp.decoder.enabled (boolean; true) media.eme.enabled (boolean; true; defaults to false if you downloaded a DRM-free version of FF; thanks @heinoganda for pointing this out) media.gmp-provider.enabled (boolean; true) may also be needed, if not already present, as found out by @VistaLover, in the case of SeaMonkey 2.49.5... To manually install the actual Primetime plugin software, first download the ZIP package (backup link) from @sdfox7's site (he has plenty of other useful XP stuff there as well, definitely worth checking out!). You can use the following checksums to verify package integrity: To install the plugin: Open your FF profile folder. An easy way to navigate to it is by opening about:support in FF and clicking the Open Folder button next to Profile Folder. Inside the profile folder, create subfolder gmp-eme-adobe and open it. Inside gmp-eme-adobe, create subfolder 17 and open it. Unpack the Primetime ZIP archive into folder 17. Folder [your FF profile path]\gmp-eme-adobe\17 should now contain three files: eme-adobe.dll, eme-adobe.info, eme-adobe.voucher. After this, check the Plugins in your Add-ons list and you should see the Primetime plugin listed and ready for use. If you don't see the plugin there, make sure you've set all of the required preferences as described above and put the files into the correct subfolder. Restarting Firefox to complete the manual install isn't usually required, but try it if the plugin doesn't appear, (Also, remember that if you have more than one Firefox profile, you'll need to repeat these steps for each of them individually.) Set the Primetime plugin to Always Activate, Flash to Never Activate (not strictly necessary, but better for testing), and go to Youtube HTML5 video player check page. Both H.264 and MSE & H.264 should have blue checkmarks. You may want to try this test page (kindly suggested by @dencorso) or some Twitter videos to quickly make sure H.264 really is working (with Youtube you can get fooled by WebM getting played instead). In theory, you could uninstall Flash at this point, but realistically it's probably wiser for now to leave it installed and disabled in the browser. Personally, I installed the FlashDisable extension to quickly toggle Flash on some of the sites I frequent that don't support HTML5 video. Some of those insistently serve Flash video to desktop FF without even checking if it can do HTML5 video or not. That can be worked around by faking a different user agent string, but for now I've found it more convenient to just temporarily toggle Flash back on for them. FlashDisable supports the Ask to Activate setting, so you don't have to worry about other sites if you forget to turn Flash off again. Based on what Mozilla devs have been saying on Bugzilla (Unhide Adobe GMP on Windows XP, Hide Adobe GMP on Windows XP in Firefox 46 and 47, Make Adobe GMP available to Windows XP users in Firefox 45 and later) it seems quite possible that this plugin could soon (FF 48+) be made available without having to use any tricks (or pre-release versions), but I suppose it's also possible that the current situation will continue indefinitely (or even that the plugin will eventually be made more difficult to access under XP). (EDIT July 18, 2017) As you've likely heard, FF 52 ESR is the last version of the browser that's going to work on XP (unless some intrepid person forks a special version for us). In a way, this is a blessing in disguise, as Primetime support has been completely excised from FF 53 and Google's Widevine CDM doesn't have our helpful side-effect (and doesn't work on XP), but ESR 52 will be supported well into 2018. So, why not make use of it while we can, right? Note that HLS streaming is not natively supported with this plugin. It does work on sites coded to use some JS library or player to work with HLS, but not for directly playing .m3u8 video sources. You may want to keep an eye on developments with hls.js in general and firefox-hls in particular if a favorite site of yours falls into the latter category.

KB3138612 for Windows 7 SP1 and KB3138615 for Windows 8.1. KB3192403 for Windows 7 SP1 and KB3192404 for Windows 8.1. While the others are intended for both Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.x, namely: KB2999226, KB3035583, KB3046480 and KB3068708 (which replaces KB3022345), KB3075249, KB3080149, KB3090045, KB3118401, KB3123862, KB3139929, KB3146449, KB3150513, KB3163589, KB3170735 and KB3173040. Some of the updates listed are offered to either 7 or 8, while others are offered to both. This list is a work in progress, which tends to grow with time. My main intent here is just to keep all relevant info as together as possible, for easy reference. Of course, the idea for this sticky post came from NoelC's post I quoted at the top of this very post. -------------***************------------- At this point (Oct. 31, 2015), the task of keeping track of all of this has become complex, so I do recommend the aegis.cmd script by thepower from voat.co (findable here) as a handy tool, that helps both with the avoidance of the "upgrade" do Win 10 and with privacy issues, too. Thanks are due to epic, for first suggesting its use on post #273. After runnining aegis.cmd, the Windows Update is set to check/notify, but I always reset it to off, and check manually, from time to time. One must keep eyes wide open, because some of the updates keep being re-offered, too, and need to be re-hidden! -------------***************------------- Alphabetized list specific to the OS for more convenient checking (courtesy of bphlpt ): Windows 7 SP1 Windows 8.x KB2952664 KB2976978 x KB2977759 KB2999226 x KB2990214 KB3022345 x KB2999226 KB3035583 x KB3021917 KB3044374 xx KB3022345 KB3046480 x KB3035583 KB3050267 xx KB3046480 KB3064683 KB3050265 KB3065988 xx KB3065987 KB3068708 x KB3068708 KB 3072318 KB3075249 KB3075249 x KB3075851 KB3075853 xx KB3080149 KB3080149 x KB3081954 KB3083325 xx KB3083324 KB3083711 xx KB3083710 KB3090045 KB3090045 KB3102812 xx KB3102810 KB3112336 xx KB3112343 KB3118401 x KB3118401 KB3123862 x KB3123862 KB3135449 xx KB3135445 KB3138615 xx KB3138612 KB3139929 xx KB3139929 KB3146449 KB3146449 KB3150513 KB3150513 KB3163589 KB3163589 KB3170735 KB3170735 KB3173040 KB3173040 KB3192404 KB3192403 x == Windows 8.x xx == Windows 8.1

I am glad that he had found friends here. I never really knew the extent of all of his Win9x work. My current desktop can still boot into Win9x because of him, although, I haven't in a while. I would like to try to provide some closure for others so I'll give a timeline of what happened. You may or may not have known that my father had heart issues. He had a mild heart attack in his 40s. August 19th: Goes in for angiogram, gets fast tracked for triple bypass surgery. He left me a message midday about it and I called him that evening. We discussed the options they gave him and he seemed settled on the bypass surgery. August 21st: Has the surgery. Gets out of surgery, doctor tells me take he handled it well. August 24th: First time I was able to contact him on the phone after the surgery. He seemed well but certainly worn-down after the surgery. August 25th: Had a heart attack (cardiac event). Survived, but apparently it was not a good situation. I was able to talk to him that evening (I think, it could have been the next day). Got the impression that his diabetes and insulin resistance played a major role in the incident. August 28th: Last night I get to talk to him. I made plans to come down to see him on the 30th. August 29th: Situation escalates, possible infection/sepsis. August 30th-September 2nd: He is heavily sedated for the pain. But things seem stable. Not good, but stable. I return home and hope for the best. September 3-7th: Situation goes back and forth, fluid buildup leads to treatment for infection. Ultimately, the infection is treatable but the sepsis is not. September 9th: Palliative care nurse contacts me and I go back down that afternoon. Situation is getting worse. September 10th: Responsiveness to questions during sedation vacation is lost except to pain stimulus. September 11th: Taken off of life support. Passes at 1:28pm. I hope that helps. I think it has helped me to write it out. I forgot I had the message from him in my voicemail about going to the hospital. My own personal take on it is that complications from diabetes played a major role in his inability to recover but I am not a doctor and it's just my own mind trying to justify the situation.

I got some ideas for branding.. Pale Moon could be called Whistler after the Codename for Windows XP Basilisk could be called Freestyle the Codename for Windows XP Media Center Edition because of the extra media features and Australis UI Borealis could be called Neptune the Codename for a developmental predecessor of Windows XP Interlink could be called Lonestar the Codename for Windows XP TabletPC Edition (writing, email, get it?) These are all UXP based applications for Windows XP and there you go a theme for all your forks of them. OH just call Basilisk 55, call it the codename for the repo.. Moebius/Mobius. Good name at any rate. Again for the four UXP applications.. I am willing to do the work for you, get em all in one repo, do the branding (yes I will keep the appdata paths as they are to avoid profile issues) and gift wrap it for you for Christmas. What do you say? EDIT: Thank you for removing the official branding from the modified-uxp repository. ALSO, if you go forward with this I will list you on thereisonlyxul.org in a special section for Windows XP users.

Thank you, I've been in touch with @LoneCrusader regarding his cotnact with my father. I appreciate what you've done with my dad's account. I have found some source code, lots of it, so I know some of it isn't related to his patches. I'm going to make that stuff available too once I actually have some free time (my life was already busy before all of this). @LoneCrusader mentioned to me that he might have been using a custom compiler which I am unaware of at the moment so it may not just compile nicely. But, I've attached a few of the TRIM named files (and what look like dependencies he had) that I have. I don't know if these are the most recent or even if they are the right ones! You actually expect anyone here to take you seriously while you continue to maintain a condescending attitude toward roytam1 and everyone else in this community? You can't even speak of these things without lacing it with some ignorant derogatory language or FUD. Emphasis mine. I assume once again that users are intended to believe that "poor modification" is an acceptable definition of "restoring the pre-existing functionality that you intentionally chose to break?" Not one of us here cares one iota whether or not roytam1 has some useless eye-candy website or some fancy branding for his browser builds. What we care about is that they work and that he is very responsive to bug reports and quick to address other issues that may arise on the target platform(s). Yourself and "Moonchild Productions" could do with some lessons from what you find here. When the rest of the world leaves your precious Windows 7 and your "outdated" Mozilla forks, along with their "outdated" addons behind, where will you be? In the same boat with the rest of us. If you expect anyone here to take you seriously, you'd better learn to treat people here with respect whether you agree with them or not.

Throughout time, the number of processes to support my empty desktop, with my favorite tweaks and "to work" software: XP: High teens. 100 MB. Vista: 30 or so. 800 MB. Win 7: 34. 1 GB. Win 8.1: 42. 1.2 GB. Win 10: 120. 4 GB. 3x the processes prior versions had to rock, just to get anything done. Says it all right there. No wonder it really doesn't seem to run any better on modern hardware than prior versions did on the best hardware of 7 years ago. And you can't really trim it down any more, for several reasons. Back when we thought Vista, Win 7, and Win 8.1 were bloated, we simply didn't know what True Bloat was. -Noel

I think I'll have to set up one of his computers to find it. I have a feeling it isn't in the "active" set of stuff I'm looking at. Thanks! Uploading them without going through them would not be a good idea. Right off the bat, there is customer information scattered in there. I already seen some family photos in the mix and even some code that I know is not relevant. I wouldn't want to just throw it out there. I can hold my own in regards to programming knowledge so that isn't a concern. A repo can be made at any point and anyone here could do it if they felt inclined to do so. I can't offer support for it anyway - I just don't have the time. My option was to upload source without a build system or to not upload source. I would like to think you can see what the better option is. In any case, the logic in the code is more important for anyone to try to learn or extend his work. Regarding who my dad was, I'm uploading his resumes so you get an idea of what he felt was appropriate to say he did. He did a bit of consulting work for Aerospace Avionics (I think that is the name, I have a pile of hardware schematics from them but they were absorbed into another company) but pretty much was consulting for the last 30 years and living off investments and tax liens. My dad was phone phreaker in his youth and actually got arrested for it (I'm quite proud of him for that) and was forced to write a public apology to avoid jail time. He was also responsible for this article: http://explodingthephone.com/docs/dbx0431.pdf I'm pretty sure that I'm about the only person he would trust with this. Although, he would not be pleased that I'm just giving away his work and that is a point where we differed in opinion, I think it is the best option for me to preserve his legacy. I never got into Windows like my dad did but I do take after him quite a bit. I wish my dad followed more modern standards for organization and such but the major issue is that there is just a massive amount of data. I brought about 60TB of stuff back home with me and that might only be half of his recent stuff (last few years). He has tape archives going back at least 20 years but I am pretty confident that stuff isn't related to his Windows endeavors. HTML by hand fits my dad so well. But I'm thinking about using React for the long-term of the page. Newspaper Article for Rudy.pdf resume.txt RESUME.DOC

Wow, that is quite a timeline you have provided here. Let me first start out by saying thank you ever so much for posting this and giving those that "knew" him some closure. I know @LoneCrusader will probably appreciate seeing this post as well because he and your dad kept in contact a lot and worked on projects together. I'm glad it also helped to get it off your chest as well, so it benefited all of us in the end. I still feel very sad over the loss and in time we will all heal but it sounds like he was quite a trooper through the whole thing but unfortunately just wasn't strong enough to come through. But some of us truly liked your father and he was always welcome here. As a small token of our gratitude, we promoted his account that you're using to the patrons group which is reserved for those who have had a special impact here or retired staff members. We know it's not much but it's all we can really offer along with our most sincere condolences. While you may or may not have much use being here, please be aware that you're certainly most welcome in the community, even if you just want to talk to some of us who were close to your dad. Not a lot of people would have done what you did but I know myself and others will be more at peace with your dad's untimely passing. Again, thank you ever so much for the update!

... And I'm so tired reading that same ol' mantra there: As if they (third party software developers) would give one nickel whether someone's setup is secure or not; what is the underlying truth inside this PR talk is that Microsoft themselves make it gradually impossible for third party software developers to target older OSes with their (M$'s) updated Windows SDKs! ... and it always comes down to that! Win7 will soon reach End of Extended Support, hence it'll also be "outdated and unsupported by Microsoft", with no more "security patches"; what is their stance on Win7? Security reasons my... behind!

Hello, everyone Because I am a Chinese, I want to provide you with some useful information about Chinese browsers. Since many government agencies and users in China are using windows xp, at least 80% of browser vendors in China support windowsxp, and you can search engines in Google or Baidu ( https://baidu.com the equivalent of Google in China). Search directly on the "浏览器" (Chinese in the browser), he will return search results of many browsers, such as “猎豹浏览器” (Cheetah browser, based on chromium55), "搜狗高速浏览器" (Sogou high-speed browsing , said to be based on Chrome6x), "UC浏览器" (UC Browser, based on Chromium55), ”2345 浏览器“ (2345 browser, based on chromium56), as well as the “360 浏览器" mentioned in this article, etc. But these browsers have the following problems compared to foreign browsers (such as chrome) First: advertising, because Chinese manufacturers of domestic browsers need to be profitable, so they will have built-in ads in the browser (advertisements are sent by the browser, you can not use adblock to block it), usually these ads will be at the bottom of the browser Or the bottom right corner of the pop-up window, you are very bored Second: privacy issues, due to Chinese government policies and browser vendors need to make a profit, so it can be said that all Chinese browsers will collect your personal privacy data, no matter how you set it in the browser, but because of this Political issues, I am not convenient to say here. (The above users also mentioned why the 360 browser can't log in using the google account, it is also because of the government's policy, so all Chinese browsers are not allowed to log in to the google account) For the above two questions, I am here to give you a few suggestions: First, and most basic, if you want to use the Chinese version of the browser, then please use the international version instead of the Chinese version. Second, if you know Chinese or if possible, you can go to Google or Baidu to search for the browser + green version you want in Chinese, or the browser + Lite you want, or the browser you want + Optimized version, for example, if you want to use 360 browser, then you can use keywords: 360浏览器精简版、360浏览器优化版、360浏览器绿色版 (English meaning:360 browser lite, 360 browser optimized version, 360 browsing Green version) to search,Please note that after downloading, use anti-virus software to check whether the file contains viruses. Because China's domestic software generally contains a large number of advertisements, the privacy collection of the software itself is too serious. Therefore, there are many good third-party modified software collection websites in China. For example,吾爱破解 ( http://www.52pojie.cn , English means I like to crack), qiuquan's blog ( http://www.qiuquan.cc/browser/, a private blog, but the modified version of the blog master made the browser, especially the 360 browser is very famous),This is what he did -- Streamlined automatic update procedures; -- Streamlined English language files; - Streamline presets for each plugin; -- Streamlined Thunder download module; -- Streamlined URL query module; - Streamline the browser doctor module (because it is a bit useful, so use it as an option); -- Streamlined built-in 360 security guard module; -- Streamline the win8 metro interface support module; -- Remove developer mode warnings; -- Remove redundant menu items from the Help menu; ++ Upgrade the built-in Flash plug-in version to The latest harmonious stable version (because the latest version of the Flash plug-in is preset, the installation package is larger than the official version). ++ Optional install "Advertiser Defender" filter plugin, default subscription "cjx82630" + Baidu Beautification Rules + Add Network Disk interface refresh rules (if you need to overwrite the installation, this box is not selected); ++ Modify the word search engine to be "Baidu"; ++Adjust multiple details, optimize program settings, and change the default search to "Baidu"; ++ The default setting of the new tab page is 12 squares, and remove the extra button in the upper right corner. Thanks to the group members for "low-key dě gorgeous" to provide technical support! ++Resolved the problem that the previous version could not preset the skin to "Speed 8" (Speed 9 is no longer needed); ++ restore the new tab page to the nine-square grid style; ++ Turn off "hardware acceleration" by default to avoid watching some videos appear card screen phenomenon; ++ prohibits the generation of the "debug.log" log file; ++ prohibits the creation of the "User Data\safemon" directory; ++Add "Xunlei" dedicated chain plugin and "Alipay" security plugin; The ++ uninstallation process adds "whether to retain browser bookmarks and personal configuration information" to avoid accidental deletion of important bookmarks; The ++ program is packaged with Inno Setup, which supports silent installation and adds a parameter. download link: http://www.qiuquan.cc/browser/360chrome.html Similarly, there is a post in the Russian forum ( http://forum.ru-board.com/topic.cgi?forum=5&topic=49673#1) which is also about modifying the 360 security browser, you can also use this version

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! Thanks to @Osman Kovan for figuring out how to install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 on Windows Vista, I was able to use that same method to install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2 Final on Windows Vista. I just extracted the setup .exe file with 7zip and ran the .MSI installation file contained within it, netfx_Full_x64.msi: After installing, I then tested ShareX Portable to see if it gave the same missing dependency errors that it does when running it with .NET Framework 4.8 Preview installed, and to my delight, it works just fine in Vista with 4.6.2 Final! Remembering what @VistaLover asked me to try with 4.6.2 Preview installed, I then decided to try the latest .NET Framework 4.6.x security rollup for Windows Server 2008 to see if it would patch .NET Framework 4.6.2 Final on Vista, and, lo and behold: It works! This means that .NET Framework 4.6.2 Final CAN be installed and patched on Windows Vista using @Osman Kovan's installation method, and then by downloading the .NET 4.6 patches for Server 2008 manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog. As such, Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2 Preview has been replaced with the final version on the list: Special thanks to @VistaLover, @Osman Kovan, and @artomberus for helping make this possible!

I have yet to see any evidence of these supposed "misguided people." We have only your word on the subject, which, given your general behavior and attitude, is not necessarily reputable. If one takes the source code for a given program (X) and re-compiles it targeting another platform (Y), how is it NOT "X for Y"? These programs are open source. If someone chooses to recompile them targeting a different platform, they have every right to do so, whether you like it or not. Good luck switching to "closed source," drop back by in a few years when you reach a closed-source state equivalent to the current open-source one you "leeched" from Mozilla. I've seen how you deal with these "poor ___ Linux builders" as you refer to them. You drop in, make demands and threats, create a general atmosphere of negativity that poisons the waters and turns everyone off, all the while hoping that no one stands up to your bullying. Most people eventually give in and give up, not willing to deal with your constant attacks. I'm afraid that modus operandi will not work here. I know for a fact that roytam's New Moon 27 builds are in fact named "New Moon" and not "Pale Moon" and do include a disclaimer on the About dialog that states the build is unofficial and specifically says not to request help on the official Pale Moon forum or otherwise. This thread is also mentioned. So what more do you expect? If the supposed "misguided people" you refer to are too ignorant to read and abide by these disclaimers then nothing else is going to stop them either. In the end all of these programs, including yours and those of Moonchild Productions, descend from Firefox or other Mozilla sources. The "chain of descent" is there, and it is not going away because someone changes a name or writes a disclaimer. Even if the name were changed, what happens when someone simply asks "what is this based on?" When the answer is given no one can control how others may use that piece of information to seek out the project's "upstreams." Even after all this ranting you still have not made any set of concrete "minimal acceptable changes" from your point of view. You keep changing them based on your level of annoyance each time you post. First it's change a name. Then it's full branding. Then "unofficial branding" is OK. Then it isn't. You noted at one point that mentions of the original names would be necessary for "profile compatibility reasons." Now, "ALL THE ORIGINAL NAMES MUST GO!" This is beyond ridiculous. Maybe roytam isn't a good graphics artist? I myself certainly wouldn't want to have to undertake the task of creating new "branding" that is worthy of the underlying code here. I'm no programmer, but I would take bets that changing the names and such would also create more headaches for roytam and his users in the fact that this could cause Addons and other associated applications to not recognize roy's builds, thereby forcing him or his users to manually modify every single Addon or associated application in order to get it working as it should. If my assumption of this is correct, what reasonable person with a life and better things to do who would choose this path? I'm sorry, but no truly serious user of these builds has any confusion whatsoever about what they are using. If the official installer(s) won't run on your non-supported platform and you had to get a build from here, that's self explanatory. And, if you're running on a supported platform where the official installer(s) work, that's self explanatory as well, and why would you come here in the first place? Covered this above, but once again - "If one takes the source code for a given program (X) and re-compiles it targeting another platform (Y), how is it NOT "X for Y"?" You "don't want to hear" these things because you don't like the fact that someone had the gall and took the time to compile your project for a different target platform that you disapprove of. That's the beauty of open source. Also once again - "Good luck switching to "closed source," drop back by in a few years when you reach a closed-source state equivalent to the current open-source one you "leeched" from Mozilla." See above about causing issues with Addons and associated applications. You claim that there is some "advantage" in the changes you are demanding when it seems more likely that this will only create more work for the developer. I see no advantage whatsoever to be gained by these projects from your suggestions, only that you just want things your way. I don't speak for roytam, but if I were in his shoes I would be all the less inclined to acquiesce to any of your demands simply based on your behavior. You have chosen to act in a condescending and demanding manner laced with threats to keep throwing roadblocks in the way of or create problems in any way possible for roytam's projects. On the other side, you create more annoyance for yourself by coming here and ranting about supposed "misguided users" who are troubling you, when it would be simpler (and probably better for your health) just to tell them off and go on about your day. You appear to thrive on creating a negative environment and beating dead horses. And, in the end, if you decide to try and make good on your threats then you will create more work for yourself in rewriting closed-source code to replace the open-source code you "borrowed" but don't like others "borrowing." Based on this and in the interest of civility I will state that I believe this "discussion" is never going anywhere. Please stop wasting everyone's time with your threats, condescension, and negative attitude. These will get you nothing here, except an end to OUR "diplomacy."

Hmm.. let's see. "Not doing a good job" could easily be defined as "breaking things that already work." For example existing code support for older operating systems. Nice and simple. I fail to see how roytam's software is "abused," give that he is actually fixing things you or Moonchild have broken, on purpose. See above. No one claimed they are official. In fact the About dialog in these builds clearly states they are not. "Not doing a good job" again..? See above. I'd like to see some proof of this supposed "massive confusion." If there is any confusion, it must come from those who are clueless in the first place. You cannot fault roytam for users who are too ignorant to read the About dialog or to deal with any issues here, where the builds are linked, rather than going to you or to the official PaleMoon forum. Also I'd love to see even one example where you or Moonchild or anyone else in your "group" has "cleaned up a mess when something goes wrong" that addressed the first single issue that affected these older operating systems or users of the unofficial builds on these systems. It sounds more to me like you're just a butthurt jerk who is having a tantrum because someone is making your toy work in places where you don't want it to. If you don't like it, write your own closed source program and stop "abusing" Mozilla's existing code. Without Mozilla's existing code, which once again I will remind you already provides compatibility for the systems roytam is targeting, and which you have intentionally broken, your pet projects would be nonexistent.

Here, you will find a list of software compatible with Windows Vista, after installing the new extended kernel by Win32. As this project is very new, this list will remain quite short for the time being. List: BeamNG.Drive 0.16 and later Chromium versions 53-73 beta (later versions currently do not work) Firefox "classic" versions 53-56 Firefox Quantum version 57 and later GIMP 2.10.18 Google Earth 7.3.3 and later Interlink Mail client Logitech Gaming Software 9.02 Opera 44 (later versions currently do not work) Palemoon 28.x Rocket League Thunderbird versions 53 and later Waterfox Classic Waterfox Current Whatsapp I will continue to update this list as more software is made compatible. Feel free to contribute your own additions in the form of a reply to the topic, and I will add them ASAP.

Yes, I would appreciate it too so it will be released when it is ready. Current status is that it does not work correctly yet. On the other side, I doubt that someone needs to upgrade to new builds immediately when it is released, especially when some needed software is not compatible with it.

Most of us don't really need/use the WAIK to build our custom WinPE's. So there were always a problem to get the few tools like wimgapi, imagex or the WIM filter drivers. Attempts were made to use httpdisk to download files from inside the WAIK iso, but it was not a good solution as you still need to load hundreds of MB and it requires to install an unsigned driver. You even had to set your x64 Windows in testmode ... But now we came with a good solution: Our tool uses cURL winhttp functions provided by Homes32 to download only the needed bytes for the hugh WAIK ISO's. There is no need for admin rights and you only need to download 4-6 MB per choosen WAIK. For command line: GetWaikTools -? GetWaikTools.zip

for me, I just want a working browser and naming is unimportant to me. If just changing the names and no artwork works need to be done in short period (as I have no time working on artwork and I have no sense about audio-visual), then it can be done. As I have no idea what name to use, I'd create a poll here and let people to choose use names that Tobin given, or a name by other forum member suggested, and also give out a "No" option for reference. if these can be accepted by people, then it can be proceeded afterwards.

An interesting little change I noticed in the April 2019 update rollup: For those that didn't notice, since 2009 with the release of SP2, Windows Vista's build number has been 6.0.6002 (while SP1 was build 6001, and RTM 6000). However, with the new rollup, Vista's build number has been changed to build 6.0.6003. At first I wondered if this was an error/discrepancy on MS's part, but turns out the change was intentional, according to this article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4495374/build-number-changing-to-6003-in-windows-server-2008 Just an interesting little thing I thought I'd point out This change doesn't seem to affect functionality of anything though (at least not that I'm aware of), which is good.

I'm far from sure about that. He sure wants us out of his forum, but I'm quite OK with that. I'd not like having him here either. But I doubt he'd go the extra lenght of actually inserting code to actually prevent his browsers from running on either Vista or XP. He's taken out code intended to enable that, because he sees it as bloat, of course. But adding code to forestall XP/Vista use would be adding bloat, which contradicts his slim-and-mean optimized code philosophy, IMO. Now, if people, like @Dibya, keeps on nagging him, that might change...

First, I don't break it. If someone must take responsibility for this, then it should be Mozilla and Moonchild Productions, not me. Second, you should study whats the difference between gecko 38 and 52, and how many changes do Moonchild people changed that enhance speed and security, and changes that prevents running in old windows, and how much effort I put to restore functionality on old windows. If you failed to do this, then please leave this thread.

Feel free to donate me something as a sign of appreciation for the UOC Patch and the Enforcer. Click on the "Donate" button to donate with PayPal: *UPDATE!* All the versions of the UOC Patch, including the Enforcer, have been rewritten from scratch. This time, I have extensively reworked the tweaks used for the rendering engine, which allowed me to double the scrolling speed of the patched browsers, increasing the general responsiveness. Loading times have also been shortened, thanks to some tweaks backported from K-Meleon Goanna. The New Moon 28-specific version of the UOC Patch has been withdrawn, since now the Patch no longer comes with E10S enabled, due to compatibility issues on some machines with some video cards (especially ATI ones). Users of the SeaMonkey browser, especially version 2.48, can use the 45 ESR version of the Patch once again. I recommend you to start with a new and clean profile, in order to get the most out of your patched browser: old and "dirty" profiles might hamper the performance of this new version of the UOC Patch. The UOC Enforcer is now is required in order to fully enjoy the optimizations introduced by the new version. So, do not forget to install both the UOC Patch and the Enforcer! An explanation on how to install the UOC Enforcer is written below, right in this post. Build number is N2M. A brief introduction Hi everybody, I'm writing this thread because I would like to share with you an experiment I made as a result of two years of using an old, single core system (an overclocked Pentium III-S Tualatin 1.4GHz) with the modern web. As you all know, the most versatile and useful web browser to use for old machines, especially XP ones, is Mozilla Firefox, thanks to its customizability, the numerous forks that it spawned and the built in certificates manager that makes things easier if we want to connect old computers to the internet. This thread focuses specifically on @roytam1's browsers for XP, such as New Moon 27 SSE and Firefox 45 ESR SSE, because they are the ones I use on my Pentium III system and the ones I used as a base to develop my "patch". We know that old computers, especially if single core or SSE only systems, can struggle a bit with the stock versions of these browsers, because they are quite resource intensive, and so the experience is quite limited unless you have an hardware that is capable enough to run the browser comfortably. So, a year ago, back when my Tualatin was still a 800Mhz Coppermine system, I started delving into the about:config of Pale Moon first, and New Moon later, in order to reduce as much CPU and RAM consumption as possible. Had to do several trials and errors, but in the end, I finally managed to get improvements in responsiveness and overall speed on the browser and so, after six revisions, I officially want to release the UOC Patch, my personal attempt, inspired by the community and by my experience of using an old computer as a daily driver, at making web browsing with Firefox and derivatives a much more enjoyable experience. Ok ok, good. So what's the UOC Patch? The UOC Patch (shortened form of Ultra One Core Patch) is a custom Global Preferences file available for any Mozilla based browser that uses the codebase of Firefox 38 ESR (such as Pale Moon and Roytam1's New Moon) or Firefox 45 ESR (i.e. Firefox 45 ESR SSE always by Roytam1), that is aimed at optimizing the browser to run on old machines and to consume less resources. Bear in mind that I developed the UOC Patch for my machine, which used to be a 800Mhz Coppermine and now is an overclocked 1.4GHz Tualatin, so it might perform differently on yours, but it should bring some improvement in terms of speed. The UOC Patch is a Defaults Override file, meaning that it goes in the following directory "C:\Program Files\{Your Mozilla based browser}\Defaults\Pref\". As soon as you put the patch into the "Pref" folder, the default about:config parameters will be replaced by the ones of the patch, unless you have modified the same parameters. If so, you can switch to the UOC Patch parameters by simply resetting them in the about:config. The UOC Patch is not compatible with Firefox Quantum. The requirements? Surely it has them. Well, yeah. The UOC Patch requires at least a DirectX 9.0c capable graphics card. Even though it will work on a DirectX 8 card, I don't have one I can use to test it so it's pretty much untested. I tested the patch with a Geforce FX5500, an FX5600, a 6800GT and an ATI Radeon HD3850 and my current graphics card, an X1950 Pro, and the patch speeds up the browser as it should. Then, ideally, the CPU. A 800MHz CPU and higher can give you a better experience, again, I don't know how it does perform on a slower CPU. RAM wise, any system that can run New Moon 27 and derivatives or Firefox 45 ESR SSE will support the UOC Patch without issues. So, to recap, you need: A DirectX 9.0c capable graphics card with at least a 128 bit buss A 800MHz CPU or faster for better performance Enough RAM to support New Moon 27/Firefox 45 ESR SSE and other Roytam1's Mozilla based browsers Ok now that we know the specs, how to install it? Installing the UOC Patch is a very easy process. Just go in your browser folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox or Pale Moon or any other Mozilla based browser you use), then go in the "Defaults" then the "Pref" folder and extract the UOC_Patch38.js or UOC_Patch45.js you will find in their respective archive in the above folder and start the browser. The UOC Patch will be automatically applied alongside your existing preferences. But as a safety measure, do make a backup of your prefs.js file inside your profile folder, before launching the patched browser. In order to access your profile folder, you must make sure that the hidden folders are visible (if not, you must go in the Control Panel, then choose Folder Options, and tick the box that says "Show Hidden Folders"), then navigate to your Firefox/New Moon/Mozilla browser profile folder (i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\{Your Username}\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\{Your Profile Folder}), you will find a file called "prefs.js". Make a copy of the file and rename it to "prefs.bak" to back it up. For K-Meleon users, check out Mathwiz's post below: What about the Macintosh? Installing the patch on the Macintosh is as simple as doing it on Windows. You just unzip the patch and put the UOC_Patch_Mac.js file into the following folder: Applications\[Browser folder]\Contents\Resources\Defaults\Pref The UOC Enforcer for 38 ESR browsers is the version that must be used with the Macintosh one. You can install the Enforcer on the Macintosh by putting the user.js file in the following directory: Macintosh HDD\Users\[Username]\Library\Application Support\[Browser Name]\Profiles\[Profile Name]\ In this way, you will have the UOC Patch for Macintosh and the Enforcer (38 ESR version) up and running on your Macintosh system as well. Enough with the words! I want to download it! Okay, okay. There you go. These are the download links for the UOC Patch. Remember, you must not absolutely use the UOC Patch for a particular codebase with a browser that uses a different one. You might experience issues. These two versions are conceived for the Firefox 38 ESR and 45 ESR codebases, so any fork of Firefox that uses those codebases, will work with their respective version of the patch. Choose carefully. The UOC Enforcer is a custom "user.js" file that acts as an add-on for the UOC Patch and must be placed into the browser's profile folder and tells the browser to change the "stubborn" entries in the about:config that are hardcoded by the developer, making the UOC Patch work even better. In order to install the UOC Enforcer, you must put the user.js file into your Firefox/New Moon/Pale Moon/Sea Monkey profile folder, that you can usually find at C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\{Your Browser}\{Browser Name}\{Profile Folder} on XP and at C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Roaming\{Your Browser}\{Browser Name}\{Profile Folder} on Vista and above. You must remember though that the UOC Enforcer doesn't let you change the edits from the about:config, so if you want to change a "stubborn" entry, you must edit the user.js file directly in your profile folder (you can do it with Notepad). Not compatible with Quantum): Click Here A Final Note Please, by all means, test the patch on as many systems as possible! The more the configurations, the better will be. Due to space constraints and lack of money, I don't have access to different systems I can test the patch with, and my Tualatin is the computer I used as a testbed for its development and so, I made it focusing on the hardware I had and currently have. The UOC Patch is not strictly limited to single core systems, but it can be used on any old and slow computer that runs Roytam1's Mozilla forks, it would be interesting to see if it can bring some benefits even on faster systems, or even slower ones: I don't have a Pentium II or an AMD/Intel Socket 7 system to test the patch with, otherwise I would have tried it on those too. There are some extensions I heartedly recommend to use alongside the UOC Patch to make the experience much better. These are: NoScript (I recommend v2.6.9.32 or v2.6.9.27 for New Moon, and v2.9.0.9 for Firefox 45 ESR SSE) Decentraleyes 1.4.2 Bluhell Firewall 2.5.3 UAControl (To change the user agent on the fly, per website) uBlock Origin 1.10.0 And this one is optional, Youtube 2 Player, a nifty plugin that turns Youtube links into redirects to VLC, so whenever you click on a Youtube link, the video will be loaded automatically in VLC, thus saving resources and CPU cycles. Okay, that's all folks. Now if you want to throw rocks or tomatoes or veggies at me, feel free to do so. I developed this in my free time with a desire of curiosity and experimentation, to see if I can push my old machine to its extreme limit, and so far, at least personally, I'm quite satisfied. But as always, it's up to you to judge whether the UOC Patch is actually useful for your system, or it's an utter piece of garbage. Be aware I'm not responsible of any pandemy, nuclear warfare, space/time continuum and so on caused by your system. I upload the UOC Patch for experimental purposes, and it's provided AS IS. Happy RDD'ing! *: I do not recommend people to use Firefox 52 ESR based browsers (Serpent/Basilisk/Pale Moon 28/New Moon 28) on old computers, because the Mozilla developers have broken tiled compositing and nobody has ever bothered to fix that issue. So, if you want better performance with the UOC Patch, use Firefox 45 ESR SSE (which I recommend), New Moon 27, SeaMonkey (with the 52 ESR version of the UOC Patch) or K-Meleon Goanna. Particularly, I recommend Firefox 45 ESR SSE because it has fully working implementations of tiled compositing and APZ. the latter broken on Goanna based browsers. SeaMonkey uses the 52 ESR version of the UOC Patch due to a broken implementation of APZ.

That's because FxESR 52 gets by default the (supported) Polymer v1 (Pm1) layout; only versions of Firefox older than 44 (Fx <=43) are being served the Classic layout, the one to be retired in March; if you use a UAO on FxESR 52 to spoof it as Fx 43, you'll get the older layout with the deprecation infobar: BTW, Firefox (Quantum) versions newer than 62 (63 =< Fx) are being served the newer Polymer v2 (Pm2) layout, which, on the outside, looks a lot like Pm1, but on the inside it's quite a different beast... FxESR 52 and the UXP browsers don't currently support it; of course FxESR 52 isn't maintained anymore, but MCP devs are already making talk about "upgrading" UXP to support Pm2 in the coming months; Google have not yet indicated for how long they'll keep supporting Pm1 Pm1 is considerably more resource hungry compared to the out-going Classic style, and this fact alone will create problems for older browsers capable of handling Pm1 but which are installed on old hardware (which seems to be the case with many XP/Vista users here... ) Of course, the forced migration to Pm1 will disable many user YT customisations, in the forms of XUL extensions, userstyles, userscripts etc., which were initially targeting the Classic layout; sadly, it'll be game over for those older browsers (on, perhaps, even older OSes/hardware) that can't cope with Pm1 at all... Some relevant links: https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/27596769 https://www.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/eyjy4i/misc_fd_youtube_is_removing_the_old_design_soon/ https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=23566 Chrome 49 has adequate support for Pm1, so if OP wants to continue using it for YT past March 2020, OP must: Install the User Agent Switcher extension from GWS: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/user-agent-switcher/kchfmpdcejfkipopnolndinkeoipnoia Set a "Permanent Spoof" for youtube.com domain (aka SSUAO) and pretend to be Firefox 60 (e.g. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0); then, every time a YT URL is loaded, OP will get the supported Pm1 layout without any nags about an unsupported browser: However, that workaround will, sadly, come to an end when evil Google decide to remove Pm1, too (which can be anytime, I hazard a guess and predict some time towards the end of this year) .

I have yet to go through stuff on what I think are his testing machines. I have plans for doing that mid next week though. I can use this info (knowing that there might be an RFDISK 3.1) to help me figure out if I'm looking at something more recent than what I am working off of.

I see no rudeness whatsoever in Frank's post. Yours, OTOH, is unnecessarily offensive. People nowadays are too oversensitive...

I think we all understand that you are not Moonchild nor do you speak for MCP in this case. However you get grouped together with MCP here because you have been variously associated with them and apparently share the same condescending attitude toward XP (and Vista) users. This attitude is what turns everyone here off; I mean really, what do "you guys" care what operating system other people choose to use? Don't want to "support" it in your projects? Fine. Just don't break it on purpose, and don't act as if someone is committing a sin by using it on a "unapproved" platform. I fail to understand what bothers you so much about people asking about the XP builds based on this latest statement. Why not just tell them to "p*** off" as you put it and go on about your day? Now, back to the issue. If you wish to make a "reasonable" request, then do so in a "reasonable" and diplomatic manner. Coming in here and making demands and threats will get you nowhere. I'm willing to accept that your desire to have these "forked projects" disassociated from "Binary Outcast" is a "reasonable" request. However you need to lose the attitude first and foremost, and then make a clear policy on whether or not and how you wish to be credited or mentioned at all in any subsequent "forked" project. You have given conflicting statements on this depending on your attitude whenever you were posting. Do you want roytam to just change the names, icons and such? Do you want any stated credit such as "this project is forked from ___ " "created by ____"? Do you want to be "erased" entirely from the resulting fork? If roytam does these things you "request," then does that mean you will lose the condescending attitude and derogatory language in reference to these builds here and elsewhere? In your opinion; which most everyone here does not share. This is a nonstarter here. It doesn't matter how much "insight" you believe you have into this code; it works on these older platforms and since we have no other options it's a very good option, regardless of your opinion. Addressed most of this above I believe. However, you still seem to think that roytam can somehow exert mind control over those who choose to use his builds and keep them all from "wandering" into the wrong places for support. I'll wager that a good number of these people who are supposedly causing you problems are trolling, especially given your attitude about the builds and since you seem to be very easily triggered by anyone who mentions XP. Since you don't distribute these builds from your site, and most likely one must visit here in the first place in order to get the links for the builds, I find it strange that any serious user doing as such would not "stop here" first for help. They seem to be purposely seeking you out rather than sincerely needing help; and if this is the case, no one here can do anything about that. What's not "sufficient" here? This forum has been around for a long time and has hosted the support for many projects. I'd rather see a developer dedicated to his or her project rather than dedicated to extraneous "infrastructure." Nothing wrong with having "infrastructure;" mind you, but in the end it is secondary to the project itself. roytam has enough to keep him busy with a $dayjob and building his various browsers, and since he has no help in doing so it's not reasonable to expect him to spend time on a website or otherwise.

It contains some internal changes, new features etc. but it is not fully finalized yet so I don't describe it now. The only intention is to test the stability now.
