Hi - apologies for the tardy response ; are you still unable to access ftp://ftp.dyu.edu.tw/pub/ in your browser/FTP client? You should forget ftp://ftp.cc.ntut.edu.tw/pub/ because that one times-out for everybody, but the first one should work ! In any case, the host doesn't provide any immediate info about the actual size of directory "pub": However, just to humour you, last night I fired up FileZilla (v3.40.0-rc2, last version to launch under Vista SP2 32-bit) and I let it overnight to sync with "ftp.dyu.edu.tw" (took some hours); here's a screengrab of the end result (GUI in Greek): As I hope you can see for yourself, remote directory "pub" contains a total of 30,445 distinct files, which amount to ca. 307.9GiB of disk space ; how can all of this be mirrored elsewhere just for you? ...2 points

From little searching, _escaped_fragment_ is an old query parameter meant for search engine crawlers to get pre-rendered version (https://www.seo4ajax.com/faq/what-is-the-escaped-fragment-parameter/). Scroller isn't there on JavaScriptless version because base HTML comes with CSS directive overflow-y: hidden !important, which is undone later at the other place with overflow-y: revert !important. And these directives are presumably removed later entirely with JavaScript. UXP doesn't understand revert, so I think it can be fixed only with a manual CSS fix for now if you want JavaScriptless version to show correctly: @-moz-document domain("boards.straightdope.com") { html { overflow-y: unset !important; } }2 points

Success! Thank you very much, @Humming Owl, the page is blank (without these 8 buttons), .with Dark mode ON...so could you delete entirely this blank new tab page, so that the browser stops on the previous dark page, what do you see while opening the browser, if it's possible, please? Anyway I thank you already!1 point

Hello @xrayer! First of all, you should not forget that Mypal 68 is still in development, and the version 68.12.5b is in beta stage. Therefore, I would expect a lot of BSODs although I never had one. Did you post your problem in the issues of Mypal 68 on Github? Issues of Mypal 68 That's actually a better place to get help. There were already opened different issues about BSODs, and as far as I know, @feodor2 is generally interested in the data of them. Here is a quotation of @feodor2's instructions if a blue screen occurs: Kind regards, AstroSkipper1 point

Hello @Humming Owl, I am very pleased to see you again! I would like to ask you one thing, if this would not bother you too much: so that you can remove this new tab with 8 buttons, that I never use, making me worry with every restart of DCBrowser, prolonging unnecessarily the time of download... please. It's just a waste of time for me. Thanks a lot in advance! PS. This way the new tab all free of superfluous would be black with my dark mode, it's my dream.1 point

STUDY FINDS A LINK BETWEEN BEING A CAT PERSON AND IMPROVED MENTAL HEALTH People most likely to be excited about cats displayed a key personality trait. A cat at the campus of Nuh Naci Yazgan University in Turkey. Sercan Kucuksahin/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images - by SARAH SLOAT NOVEMBER 6, 2022 GO TO ANY college campus during finals week, and you may come across a delightful sight: stressed-out, over-caffeinated university students petting dogs. Technically known as animal-assisted interventions, these light-hearted interactions are scientifically shown to provide at least short-term relief. With student mental health worsening, a brief amount of time spent petting a dog — an act that engages the social brain — is viewed as an easily implementable strategy for addressing anxiety. But why limit this to dogs, which comprise 86 percent of animal-assisted interventions? Patricia Pendry, a professor at Washington State University, had successfully included cats in her own institution’s animal-assisted interventions programs and was curious whether or not a study could measure student and staff’s reception to cats on campus. Pendry and her colleague, Joni Delanoeije, a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at KU Leuven in Belgium, were especially interested in who would be excited about the cats. They decided to examine what factors increased a person’s openness toward interacting with the animal and whether personality traits played a role. They conducted surveys of staff and students at Flemish institutions during the summer of 2020, searching for a link between personality and openness to cats. Generally, being a cat owner and identifying as female were associated with being excited about a cat on campus. But they observed a link related to how the person acted as well: people who significantly displayed the personality trait of emotionality were most interested and, in turn, more likely to experience the benefits of a feline visit. These results were recently published in the journal Anthrozoös. THE PSYCHOLOGICAL BENEFITS OF CATS A cat at the campus of Nuh Naci Yazgan University in Turkey. Sercan Kucuksahin/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images While the study didn’t examine why emotionality is linked to being interested in cats, Pendry does have some ideas about why this may be the case. “It may be that individuals who experience strong feelings in response to stimuli may experience strong emotions in response to the very subtle clues that cats tend to give off,” she says. This “may enhance their enjoyment when interacting with cats compared with individuals who need a lot more powerful stimuli to experience a strong emotional response — which may be where your average dog comes in.” While evaluating who might be the most excited about cats may seem like fluffy research, there are established links between being around pet cats and well-being. “CATS HAVE THE UNFORTUNATE REPUTATION OF BEING ALOOF AND FINICKY.” Brain scans show that being around cats activates the prefrontal cortex of cat owners, and being around their pets is shown to have a calming effect. Cats can provide fulfilling emotional support and can alleviate negative moods so much so that, in this way, they are comparable to a human partner. These studies underscore why spending time with animals, in general, isn’t just a frivolous act — it’s time spent improving your mental health. The reason why cats aren’t already a fixture of animal-assisted interventions may have more to do with a bad reputation than anything else. “It seems that cats have the unfortunate reputation of being aloof and finicky, both in terms of who they choose to interact with, as well as their ability to adjust to different environments,” says Pendry. “I personally believe it is more accurate to describe cats as ‘discerning’ and ‘thoughtful,’ and I would hope that we can respect that trait.” There are plenty of cats who actively seek out opportunities to engage with humans. When this happens on a university campus, Pendry has seen “people flock to them.” It’s important to select the kinds of cats who enjoy these interactions — and who can cope with being transported to the event — but the same is true of dogs, she adds. Next, Pendry is interested in examining whether or not cats have stress-reducing effects when interacting with students and staff and under what conditions. And in the meantime, it’s comforting to remember the unique effect animals have on us. Now I need to find a cat to pet. HERE: https://www.inverse.com/mind-body/cats-mental-health-connection1 point

... ... ... HOW TO CHARGE YOUR SOCIAL BATTERY If you find yourself overwhelmed in social situations, a little prep might help. For example, if you’re nervous about being asked questions on sensitive topics, “prepare to be assertive by setting limits” says psychologist Joel Minden. “Pinpoint the problem you anticipate and consider what you could do to prepare for a better outcome,” says Minden. “For example, if you have trouble getting out of extended conversations, plan to extricate yourself by saying you want to help out the host or that you need to chat with another guest before they leave.” Mancao says that prioritizing events and deciding how much time you want to allocate to each can help. “This type of structure can provide relief for introverts because they will have a plan of action,” she says.1 point

HOW TO MANAGE THE HOLIDAY SEASON WHEN YOU'RE AN INTROVERT “This type of structure can provide relief for introverts.” “Remind yourself that you are brave if you take part, even while feeling anxious.”Getty Images - by SARAH SLOAT 17 HOURS AGO WITH THANKSGIVING BEHIND US, we’ve made it to the most wonderful time of the year — or is it? The holiday season seems blissful for some, but December’s demands are stressful for others. Hosting family, attending parties, and making small talk can be fun — they are also some of the thingspeople dread most at this time of year. The holidays can be especially challenging for more introverted people. Extroverts tend to enjoy a boost in mood after socializing, but introverts often experience the opposite. After spending time with others, introverts often seek out alone time to recharge their social battery. There is no one type of introvert — social introverts experience introversion differently than anxious introverts, for example. And research also shows that a brief excursion into extroversion can cause introverted people to feel positive emotions. If you want to go to that holiday party but are nervous about your social stamina, there are certain actions you can take before and after that may help. First I want to say "Thanks!" @roytam1 for all these new builds released nearly every week and the permission to mirror them on my own website! Can't remember when I did that last time... Your work is really appreciated by all who are writing here and additionally a lot of silent users! And not to forget "Thanks!" to all supporters and contributors! Second Sorry for posting a bit late, I'm still worn out by SARS-CoV-2 - nothing really bad, I'm just some kind of exhausted/sluggish. Third The mirror of latest ArcticFox 40, BNavigator 0.9, Firefox 45ESR, IceApe 52, IceDove 52, K-Meleon 1.5.x/74/76, MailNews 52, New Moon 26.5/27/28, RetroZilla, RZ browser and Serpent 52/55 builds by @roytam1 has been updated -> soggi.org - tools. changelog: - added latest BNavigator 0.9 20221126 build - added latest IceApe 52 20221126 build - added latest IceDove 52 20221126 build - added latest K-Meleon 76 20221126 build - added latest MailNews 52 20221126 build - added latest New Moon 27 20221126 builds - added latest New Moon 28 20221126 builds - added latest Serpent 52 20221126 builds - added latest Serpent 55 20221126 builds To don't lose track of things I want to update too someday... todo: - add various flash player versions - add FlashFix for WinXP - add VLC 2.2.8 (WinXP non-SSE2) - add polyfill addons ------------------------------------------- I don't have this backspace problem myself, just thought that this input may help someone!? I have this "YT problem" too, but thought it is related to latest hot s*** YT uses to render the page. But nevertheless YT still works...yeah it's extremely slow, I know. After doing a reconnect to my ISP I got an IP from a completely different IP range and could connect to the former FTP with WinSCP, the ladder still fails. So my IP (range) was the problem, it just has been blocked. This FTP is very old, has a lot of important files and I don't know how long it will be available in the future. So I begun to mirror the two directories which are important to me (/pub/Hardware/stuff/ and /pub/Hardware/vendor/) - still not finished (11.7 GiB until now), if I get 50 kb/s I can be really happy (the FTP is the slow part, not my internet connection). But nevertheless: Thank you, I really appreciate your efforts! BTW Welcome back! BTW2 I would recommend WinSCP instead of FileZilla. The latest version (portable) still works under WinXP and up - you can also install WinSCP 5.15.9 (XP) / 5.17.5 (Vista) and replace the executable with the one from the latest portable version (actually 5.21.6). kind regards soggi1 point

Thanks a bunch! I followed your logic and added one more rule to slim the header even when "logged-in": @-moz-document domain("gitlab.com") { .logged-out-marketing-header { --header-height: 40px; } .navbar-gitlab { --header-height: 40px; } } logged-out; 72px -> 40px : logged-in; 48px -> 40px : However , using "Inspector" (of DevTools) I found out that once the value of "--header-height" inside the userstyle becomes < 40px (as in your original code), that value is no longer honoured and the header's height can't be made less than 40px : Unless there's a fix for that, too, I'm already heavily indebted ! In NM28, discourse-based boards load the "proper" (full) version when the "User Agent Mode" is set either to "Native" (default): Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:4.8) Goanna/20221125 PaleMoon/28.10.6a1 or "Gecko Compatibility": Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Goanna/4.8 PaleMoon/28.10.6a1 "Firefox Compatibility" mode: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Goanna/4.8 Firefox/68.0 PaleMoon/28.10.6a1 exposes a Fx 68.0 slice, which makes "discourse" trigger the "unsupported browser" header and loads the read-only, "dumbed-down" version of boards; as I posted above, "discourse" now expect at minimum Fx 91.0esr to load fully (possibly, some version between 79-90 is the exact minimum version of the release branch, but I didn't bother checking that scenario ...) .1 point

The WebRTC implementation that ships with St52, despite being spec-compliant, is not up-to-date with the latest, Chromium-specific, iteration most "such" services employ ... Don't count on upstream (MCP) to improve WebRTC in the context of UXP, as they never supported the feature inside Pale Moon... The new maintainer of official Basilisk (i.e. Basilisk-Dev) has plans laid out to improve WebRTC performance inside "his" browser, however I'm not certain how much that effort has progressed and/or whether @roytam1 is tracking/implementing those changes in Serpent 52.9.0 ... EDIT: I may be in error with the above statements in relation to Zoom, because I just found this: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?p=230890#p230890 Thus, more insight is needed in regards to "Zoom-audio" from an actual browser developer...1 point

@luweitest : In about:config, locate network.captive-portal-service.enabled and toggle to "false"; for good measure, also locate captivedetect.canonicalURL and change the value from http://detectportal.palemoon.org/success.txt to an empty string; restart browser to take full effect... FWIW, for me "captive portal detection" isn't considered as nefarious... Please, also read: https://www.palemoon.org/policies/privacy.shtml Also, for: ... read: https://19216801.one/ (i.e. this is an internal LAN IP address, not something external...) I can understand you being inside mainland China makes you extra cautious/suspicious of "background" connections, still I think Pale Moon can be absolved of such wrong doing ...1 point

Thanks, @soggi. From earlier posts, it does appear that change to UXP was causing the buggy backspace/delete behavior that others complained about. Luckily, upstream added a hidden pref to revert to the old behavior, which @luweitest found: But from the description of the change, it sounds like it really should have been website-specific, not just a browser-wide true/false pref, so it could be set to false for those websites that malfunction when the pref is set to true. But we only have the browser-wide pref. So what if you find a website that won't work unless you set it to false? If that happens. I'd suggest modifying @AstroSkipper's latest "custom button" to toggle the above pref; then you can just switch the pref between true and false as needed.1 point
