Something's definitely wrong with prices in California. I'd say the inflation is bad all over the world too, but California is always overpriced and overregulated . And this manufactured crisis is not over yet .2 points

Thanks, LoneCrusader! @MrMateczko I was exchanging some emails with Federico Dossena this night, telling him about these WineD3D libraries. He told me: “I assume he tried to do an XP build and tried to fix the errors one by one as they popped up, which is complicated and time consuming but clearly possible.” He also noted something which we should be looking for: “I should point out that Wine is under the GNU GPL v2 license so he's legally obligated to share his modifications, he can put them behind a paywall if he wants to, but his patches must be made available otherwise he's violating Wine's license (and you should report it to the Wine team).” I will bring more updates on it later. He will probably help me to get in touch with the Wine team to do it.2 points

I was always told that NT4 was exceptionally tough. I'm not even sure if the approaches we use for 2000 and Vista are applicable here. I used wrappers written in C for NT4 over kernel32. But that is a very touchy subject because of the potential sources of "inspiration" for the wrapper code.2 points

Here I am going to document the steps it takes to configure a web browser to use Proxomitron as a web filter. I will then use the MSFN reply-box "keylogger" as an example of how Proxomitron can prevent/break that "keylogger" (I figure that is an example all users here will be able to relate to.) Proxomitron is extremely powerful - I have used it since 2004 at least but have been away from it for a couple of years (still use it for my weekly Microsoft Excel Web Queries). I used it exclusively as a web browser filter before migrating to Mypal roughly 3 years ago and then to 360Chrome roughly 1.5 years ago. I have decided that it is officially time to bring it back into the fold and I am confident that several folks here at MSFN will find it extremely useful. Proxomitron really is extremely powerful and also can be a bit "intimidating" at first because of how powerful it is - I am hoping this guide will remove all intimidation. Hello everyone, in the last past few months I have been working on a windows nt 4.0 api wrapper which can run softwares designed for new windows's version. I'm writing the functions in inline assembly (I'm using ida) and C. (There is also some code from reactos and wine). There are some issues with certain softwares, some don't load at all and some crash, so I can't release nothing for now. What are some software you use and you want to run on it? List me and I will try to get them work. Unfortunately firefox (the 3.5 version and newer), opera 12.18 and utorrent don't load even if I added the missing functions... They don't throw me any error, they simply don't load at all... Maybe I have to do something. I will investigate. Here, there are some software that load. Filezilla 3.8.1 (last version crashes, but I think I will be able to get it work) vlc 2.2.0 last version of 7-zip last version of Sumatra (it's a little buggy but it reads pdf).1 point

I guess it depends on what you're willing to tolerate. I'm presently renting bedrooms in the San Francisco Bay Area, and our temperatures have been similar. It's 4:30 AM as I post this and right now the temperature outside is 48 F/9 C. During the day it's been getting up to around 65 F/18 C, though the indoor temps only ever get around 62 F / 16 C at most. The homeowner of the place I'm staying at right now, before his family left for Taiwan last December, set the HVAC set to 68 F/20 C. Even though the utilities were split evenly between the landlord and all tenants, my share of the bill was around $115~110 as a result. This winter I'd been trying to use the HVAC as little as possible (though when the house got down to 52 F / 11 C at one point, that was too cold even for me) and just let my computers do the work of heating the house. Our bills have been much, much lower as a result; I paid less than $60 last month.1 point

Well , we have an oceanic climate here , very soft winters , if you could even call it a winter . It's about +7(C) during these days. I live in an 18th century house with a wooden oven . I barely use it because I cook on the electric one . But this wooden oven can be used for heating and even forging . I don't have gas pipelines in my house at all. In 2021, the town became part of the transnational UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its famous baths and its architectural testimony . Is it good ? One one hand : yes . On the other : the bloody tourists , lots of them . Esp. the russian ones, the most annoying and very loud. So I went to our nearest repair shop and guess what ? They told me it's pretty normal for the second batch of this hot chip to run this way . I guess you're lucky that you have the first revision chip (this is my guess though). The card works absolutely fine , I had to increase the fan speed though . Now it's about 88 degrees during heavy load. Not bad , considering the fact of only 50 Euro paid. During casual gaming it's about 75-76 (C). Overall , I don't like . I didn't notice any huge improvements over my GTX 980 SSC. I don't need 12GB of VRAM . In most of my games only 4 used at max. I'll search for the black Titan , like you told me , it should be much better . Thanks again .1 point

Probably, never looked into it. The author of the program presumably put it there because bad actors apparently love trying to use his program as the vessel for bad stuff. Yup, it's not saved anywhere. I may take a look next weekend.1 point

Ouch, I’m assuming it’s the same for NT 3.51? I really wan’t to do a mini kernelex for the OS, but I wan’t to know if windows2 can get the modified NT4 kernel32.dll to work first if that is the case. I hope so too.1 point

Done. You all should review the posts here and in the original thread for continuity and edit if necessary.1 point

KB938979 is for Vista. Not for Xp.1 point
-
KB938979 DO NOT INSTALL under any circumstances ! It disables the only known permanent signed driver requirement bypass (bcdedit.exe /set loadoptions ddisable_integrity_checks). Avoid installing it if you rely on unsigned drivers and don't want to use F8 every time you boot. Also , slows down the boot time .1 point

Did you find the update that is missing?1 point
-
I'm working on the issue right now. What I can say is that this update, which you already have installed, is necessary for the search to work. It looks like another update is missing.1 point

Yes, I have, get the same error, but 200 in ProxHTTPSProxy instead of 500. Still get 500 for Windows Update.1 point

I have the same versions. But that doesn't matter. Have you activated Microsoft Update?1 point

Interesting how the file versions are different. What version of wuweb.dll do you have? Mine is 7.6.7600.256. muweb.dll is version 7.4.7600.226.1 point

I thought about changing UA before/during posting the problem, but decided to inform anyway, because even if I do solve it for me, it will still affect others and will not be fixed in the next NM version. Just now I set general.useragent.override.google.com same as default general.useragent.override.facebook.com - to Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:99.9) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/99.9 (Pale Moon) - and the problem is gone completely, Google search returns to normal layout. I prefer this unreal string. It directly/widely proclaimed - "UA is spoofed, because your site programmers/administrators are dumb or evil or both". Yes, I understand, that there are many cases, when not site authors, but site _engine_ authors (f. e., forum engine authors) are guilty, but most, if not all, NM built-in UA overrides are aimed on those who create that-f***ing-newest-Chrome-only-sites _themselves_. P. S. UA override _not_ helped for eBay item pictures. And there are some other (local-Russian) sites, that are affected with the same looking problem. F. e. at tv.mail.ru (TV channels charts) click on program name does nothing, instead of showing pop-up with detailed information.1 point

I will try with an old computer, I hope it will work well, and I hope the operation will be successful. Otherwise, there would be no other way to find out the new BaseAddress !1 point
-
Thank you , but it's a big downside then . The problem is, I don't know where to find clean proxies from certain countries that instagram "likes". As for the software , I already have a similar one . It accepts proxie lists and then tests them . It's much less sophisticated , of course.1 point
-
It can be configured to route through proxies, yes. It can also be configured to 'spoof' being routed through a proxy without actually routing through a proxy. It uses "lists" extensively but you have to create the lists manually, I don't recall any method where it "fetches IP lists from countries".1 point

Download link for the "base config" compiled in the previous post -->> Proxomitron - MSFN - 01-23-2022.zip Updated download (this is the "base config" PLUS the below list of updates/modifications) -->> Proxomitron - MSFN - 01-26-2022.zip ⇦ I suggest this as the best starting point. Extract to the folder of your choice. Launch via the Proxomitron.exe file - I place a link to Proxomitron.exe in my Windows Startup and also add to my desktop and Start Menu.1 point

Okay, we now have to put everything together, so to speak. The next post offers the download, but this post explains in detail what that download is and how it was created. 1) Extract the downloaded ProxN45j.zip file to a folder of your choice. I extracted to "ProxN45j", renamed the folder to "Proxomitron", then placed the folder at "C:\Miscellaneous\Proxomitron". 2) In "C:\Miscellaneous\Proxomitron", delete the original configuration files as these will be too old to use as a "base config" (Proxomitron is only as powerful as its "base config"). a) delete default.cfg a) delete default-backup.cfg a) delete FirstRun.txt a) delete Level 1.cfg a) delete Level 2.cfg a) delete Level 3.cfg a) delete Level 4.cfg a) delete Level 5.cfg a) delete Level 6.cfg 3) Rename/copy the downloaded zlib32.dll file to zlib.dll then copy/paste/replace the zlib.dll that exists in "C:\Miscellaneous\Proxomitron". The old zlib.dll was version 1.1.4.0. The new zlib.dll is version 1.2.8.1. 4) Extract the downloaded Proxo_OpenSSL_101Q_DLLs.zip to a folder of your choice. Copy only the libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll files from the extracted folder (we will not be needing the openssl.exe file) and paste into "C:\Miscellaneous\Proxomitron" (these two files will not already exist). 5) Extract the downloaded ProxomitronReborn_4605R.zip to a folder of your choice. Rename proxo.exe contained in the extracted folder to Proxomitron.exe then copy/paste/replace the Proxomitron.exe that exists in "C:\Miscellaneous\Proxomitron". The old Proxomitron.exe was version 4.5.0.0. The new Proxomitron.exe is version 4.6.0.5. 6) Extract the downloaded PtronGUI_4.6.0.5(h).zip to a folder of your choice. Execute the PtronGUI_4.6.0.5(h).exe file from the extracted folder. Follow the prompts and select the FOLDER that contains the Proxomitron.exe (version 4.6.0.5) that we copy/paste/replaced in Step 5 ("C:\Miscellaneous\Proxomitron") then continue to follow the prompts. This will create a proxo+ptronGUI.exe file alongside the Proxomitron.exe file in "C:\Miscellaneous\Proxomitron". At this point, I delete the Proxomitron.exe file that we created in Step 5 and rename proxo+ptronGUI.exe from Step 6 to Proxomitron.exe. 7) Extract the downloaded prox-config-sidki_2019-01-26b1.zip to a folder of your choice. Copy the three FOLDERS (html, Lists, and sidki-etc) contained within the extracted folder and paste into "C:\Miscellaneous\Proxomitron". Copy the sidki_2019-01-26b1-uNorm.ptron file contained within the extracted folder and paste into "C:\Miscellaneous\Proxomitron". Rename the sidki_2019-01-26b1-uNorm.ptron file just pasted into "C:\Miscellaneous\Proxomitron" as default.cfg. Note that Proxomitron will load default.cfg by default when you launch Proxomitron. You can also use .bat files to launch Proxomitron and load config files not named default.cfg but I find it easiest to just load default.cfg then use the context menu on the systray icon to load config files not named default.cfg. At this point, this is the download that is provided in the next post.1 point

These are the files to download (listed in the order that they are used in the next post which details how to create our config), do not execute anything yet, just download them. I have provided a download where all this work has already been done (two posts down), but I do prefer to detail the steps taken to get there. For users that prefer, you can skip this post and the following post. Please note that we use the "j" version of the original Proxomitron as opposed to the "m" version because the "m" version was hard-coded to fall-back (without any notification) to a "direct connection" if your assigned "remote proxy" fails to connect. ProxN45j.zip zlib32.dll Proxo_OpenSSL_101Q_DLLs.zip ProxomitronReborn_4605R.zip PtronGUI_4.6.0.5(h).zip prox-config-sidki_2019-01-26b1.zip1 point

Microsoft Update must be added manually. To do this, copy this file (muweb.dll) to c:/windows/system32 and register it with regsvr32. After that, the information bar should appear. Downloadlink: Click here1 point

@Dave-H It looks we have gotten further now. maile3241 is able to download and install updates on his XP vm with ProxHTTPSProxy. He even sent a video further up on this page. I never thought Microsoft/Windows Update through the website would ever work again. He is currently figuring out the other errors people are getting. I am getting 80072f78, and ProxHTTPSProxy shows it tries to connect to the update server but gives an 500 error.1 point

To tell you the trust, I thought this would be a nice thread, but it turned toxic very quickly and not AT ALL what was intended. If I were walking by looking in the window of this café; trust you me, I'd keep walking seeing these conversations taking place inside. But what do I know, not closing my eyes or pretending, but, I don't seek out such - online or in real life ... at least not for enjoyment purpose. So that being said: I'll exit the café for good with all the best wishes to everyone and certainly understand should be closed. Be well.1 point

Richie, The Maine Coon Cat, Has Gone Viral For His Extravagant Look So there - really a cat with irresistible look...never seen! More shots here: https://www.boredpanda.com/viral-maine-coon-cat-richie/ But I think, that the Norwegian cat (from Norwegian forests) has even more charm... like this one: More Norwegian cats here on Swisscows: https://swisscows.com/image?query=norwegian cat (from norwegian forests)&culture=en&offset=0 It brings a tear to my eye...because I lost a Norwegian cat, she had a cardiac arrest... She is from Bing: https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=norwegian+cat+(from+norwegian+forests)&first=1&tsc=ImageHoverTitle So what are your preferences? It's true, that you have to choose the character, not the external appearance... it's like with women (and men too!)1 point
