360Chrome v13.5 Build 1030 Redux I inadvertently corrupted my original Build 1030 series when working on Builds 2022 and 2036 so this is starting brand new with several lessons learned from later versions, including 2044. I've always much preferred Build 1030 over anything "newer". They all technically use the same v86 Chromium engine "under the hood". You still need to follow all instructions, including the signing, despite what you already did. People need to follow instructions precisely. Still having doubts? Read below. @win32checked my modded driver and confirmed "the byte sequences in the other thread are valid for modding the driver". https://msfn.org/board/topic/181612-wip-windows-vista-extended-kernel/?do=findComment&comment=1235379 I'm sorry, I don't know how to assist your further. Everything you need to know on how to mod had been said in the thread already. https://msfn.org/board/topic/184056-breakthrough-p2-new-pascal-special-microsoft-nvidia-driver-port-for-vista-x64/3 points

@Outbreaker! WU/MU works perfectly using Proxy's PopMenu. If it doesn't work for you, then you did unfortunately something wrong. Everything is detailed and sufficiently documented. My advice: Do all from scratch following the instructions! BTW, you didn't answer my questions. One of them for example was: In the unexpected case that you still have problems despite my extensive instructions, I need more detailed information to help you in a reasonable and problem-oriented way. An exact description of the problem with version information, screenshots and so on. But, as I said, everything should actually run immediately and without any problems. Cheers, AstroSkipper3 points
-
You have to follow the instructions in my manual inside the archive. If Proxy's PopMenu doesn't show icons, and the menu items don't work, then it is not properly installed. You have to start the executable Configure PopMenu.exe first to set up Proxy's PopMenu. See under the section 7.5 or 9.3.2 (according to the version you are using) of my article ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use! A detailed documentation, titled Documentation of ProxHTTPSProxy's PopMenu 3V1 (or 3V3), can be found in the subfolder Docs of each program package and should be read before using ProxHTTPSProxy's PopMenu in any case. The installation, all features and more are described there. The process of installation and setting up is actually very easy. In any case, my package has been tested deeply, and it works as described.3 points

Agreed. Though I would reword that to say third-party javascript. (no space, I read java scripts with a space and think Java code) MSFN tends to be the "net savvy" crowd that don't allow third-party javascripts "willy-nilly".2 points

While not clicking is good, I think more dangers come from java scripts. I at first wrote licking instead of clicking.2 points

No, it's more like a rumour. From what I know, the problem with NVCPL causing this conflict still haven't been resolved by @win32in the later drivers, win32 please correct me if I missed the latest developments. NVCPL simply won't start (not the driver) and this causes the hang Orbit. I have a board with x58 chip, and this driver from the part 1 of my tutorial works with it. So, as another idea, you try my driver that doesn't depend on win32's ex-kernel. It works with 1080ti the OP of this topic asked about. https://msfn.org/board/topic/183688-breakthrough-new-nvidia-drivers-ported-to-vista-tutorial/ There's proof with screens it works. Want more HQ detailed screenshots? Then write to Tripredacus and demand my limit to be extended to at least 20mb. I, as the real content poster, deserve it, if he refuses, then all of you would have to entertain yourself with what's already posted, since my limit was up several years ago.2 points

Of course the final decision is yours, but I'd encourage you to at least try uBlock Origin. If you hate it, you can always uninstall it. It was written for efficiency, so it's likely you'll find that it actually speeds up your browsing more than slowing it down, since your browser will no longer try to download oodles and gobs of unwanted garbage. The latest non-WE version of uBO that I have is 1.16.4.31b2, which IIRC was posted by @AstroSkipper in his thread: There may be a later version by now; I haven't checked recently.2 points

Nothing out of the ordinary, Opera was a paid browser, too. But with Opera we knew where it comes from. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera_(web_browser) With this browser, I support the author, nothing wrong with it being paid, though he'd have to be more transparent.2 points

My iguana went straight trough the window today. No damage to the iguana, in case either of you's wondering. It's the window on the second floor of my house. Looks like someone throw a piece of furniture from the inside of the house, nothing that interesting, but the fact iguanas can do that - is. Some may wonder why, simple - mating season, hormones.2 points

Hello @Outbreaker! Which version of the TLS proxies are you using? Starting the proxy by applying ProxHTTPSProxy_PSwitch.exe means you have installed an older version such as ProxHTTPSProxy REV3e or my package ProxHTTPSProxy's PopMenu 3V1. These versions are TLS 1.2 proxies and not up to date. You should actually use one of the TLS 1.3 proxies, either ProxyMII (20220717) aka ProxHTTPSProxy 1.5.220717 or my most recent package ProxHTTPSProxy's PopMenu TLS 1.3 3V3. Of course, the old TLS 1.2 proxies should still work, too. Under the account Local Computer? If not, it won't work. Did you already read my article Complete guide for restoring IE's access to WU/MU website using ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy in Windows XP? The loops are presumably a result of a misconfiguration of the IE (see step 4). If all steps of my guide are performed properly, it will definitely work. Here is my list with all other working methods to access WU or MU successfully: Kind regards, AstroSkipper2 points

lol, truth be told I started doing that on my local archives back when MSFN had a GIGANTIC "donate money or risk MSFN shutting down" banner plastered on the forum. I had (still visit) a couple other forums on standby in case MSFN did shut down.1 point

Yes, I agree, it's excellent, but it's strange that the file name has "MSFN" in it this time. 😅1 point

thank you for explaining, good enough for me. archiving 2036 and moving to the new 1030. nice work on the hamburger menu and getting all the fixes merged. can also report this version respects the cleartype settings on my system. all in all, very impressive work!1 point

I find 1030 to manage RAM much better than 2036. I have also had disappearing fonts in 2036. Extremely rare and only while editing Stylus userstyles. But have never had disappearing fonts in 1030. There is no "night and day" difference between the two, I just find 1030 to be much more MATURE and STABLE of a product, with nothing "added" upstream that we here at MSFN just remove anyway. 1030 on the left. 2036 on the right. Two identical VMs with identical tasks performed in 1030 versus 2036. ie, note Process Hacker reporting Page Faults - in a perfect world, this number would be ZERO. 2036 will "fault" twice as often as 1030.1 point

An interesting watch indeed! Particularly the notion that a "sandbox" OPENS UP VULNERABILITIES that would otherwise NOT EXIST if the computer was not running "anti-virus". The whole notion of Zero Day has always been enough for me to NOT run anti-virus - a heuristic scan cannot protect you from something it does not know how to find! And BINGO! As the presenter stated, "The reason I don't get malware is that I don't click on things, I don't download attachments". We called this "net savvy" back in the day. Also, as the presenter states, "I don't just download apps I get from the internet, especially free apps, and then run them without making sure they are authentic." It's also why I will not use a web browser that doesn't have a "status bar" - it is an ingrained habit to hover, eye down to status bar, read status bar, spin some brain gears based on that read, then go from there.1 point

Enhancer for YouTube still works for me. I can no longer pipe YouTube through Proxomitron "and" Enhancer but relying on Enhancer "plus" uMatrix continues to work quite well. My uMatrix doesn't allow anything outside of youtube.com and googlevideo.com domains.1 point
-
Enhancer for youtube, and all ad-blocking monkey scripts I have tried (among the most recently updated) seem not to work. YT is ok in 360chrome and mypal, with the last working version of enhancer for youtube. It stutters in st52 (or else it stops, probably wherever an ad is scheduled, and stays there until hitting space twice -one to pause the frozen rendering, the other to start playing again). In vanilla profile, without ad control, yt works well, if for well you mean with ads.1 point

Did you notice, @j7n and @VistaLover, that vertical scrolling is indeed possible on those sites by using the arrow-up/down and page-up/down keys (at least in St.52 , be sure to click on the canvas first to ensure it gets the focus)? Hence that sabotage/discrimination of UXP browsers could be estimated only as partial successful1 point

I also haven't been able to find any connections opened to Chinese IP addresses, much unlike 360 Chrome. The "expires in one year" is a restriction in the application itself. If you try running the browser in August 2024 or later, it will silently crash. However, there is a logic error in the timebomb so it will run for the first seven months of the following years. However I think a patch for it would be technically a crack as it is proprietary software with restrictions on launching.1 point
-
Supermium moves to the stable branch (version 119/120) at the end of this month when the next release will be made. This should reduce the number of upstream-inherited bugs. GDI rendering should be perfected for this release as well and there will be an option to disable prompts for "unsafe downloads" (and avoid having a sample of the downloaded file possibly being sent to Google). The GDI option in particular will have improved rendering of remote fonts over Vista-level DirectWrite.1 point

Warning: this version predates the WebP buffer overflow bugfix by nearly two months. I tried running later versions (known to run on Win 8.1) with the help of VxKex, but had no luck. As a result, I'm sticking with 115 ESR. Of course, if someone's willing to download the source code, apply the WebP fix, and rebuild this nightly release, I'd have no objection to that.1 point

Ok! That looks much better. Now, you have a problem with accessing the Microsoft Windows Update page. As I already wrote, you should follow my guide Complete guide for restoring IE's access to WU/MU website using ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy in Windows XP. This guide is well-tested, too, and after doing all steps, MU should actually work. The problem with the loops is probably caused by a misconfiguration of the Internet Explorer. Please read especially step 4 of my guide (but all other steps are also important, of course)!1 point

I can see Windows 7 lasting well beyond 2030 quite well. It's been almost 10 years since Windows XP was dropped and it's still-well supported by third parties. A lot of people don't have the luxury to buy a new PC. Often, they are in a developing country and new hardware is very expensive, a lot of old hardware and software won't work properly on Windows 8.1+ (one notable example being DRM disabling Hardware Acceleration on Adobe applications using BeTwin). In all honesty, is buying newer hardware besides for work purposes and video games even worth it? Why should I fork over 500+ USD for an overpriced new PC that literally holds the same amount of ram and hard drive space that a computer over 10 years old holds? I could buy a cheap used PC that can still run Windows 7 on ebay. Sure, the newer PCs "faster," but the bloat and high requirements for Windows 10 and 11 just kills the purpose of even purchasing such a machine. Top that off with the number of bugs 10 and 11 hold. I can't even run an i7 with 8gb of ram properly on Windows 10. It's beyond dumb. I'd rather just stay with my "legacy" Windows versions and be able to get my activities done. Digital art, file storage, family photos, and media files shouldn't require 16gb of ram and an intel i9 just to work properly. I can literally do the same tasks on my Pentium M with Windows XP at a faster speed. If security is a concern, just dual-boot with a lightweight Linux for web browsing and email. Long live Windows XP/Vista/7/8.1!1 point

I have to concur with you. Years ago, I was the same way as D.Drake about using XP as a daily driver on the Internet. It irked me that people here didn’t want to conform to the conditions of a Microsoft license. I embraced Vista and never looked back. And I wanted the “Luddites” on MSFN to follow suit. That is until ... Windows 10 I really love Windows 8, as many of you know. I came to see how my usage of an EOL product was misunderstood by some. Now I could see how self-centred I was to the XP fans here. I remembered that until Windows 8 came along, that my installation of Windows XP x64 Edition was likely the most stable and fastest environment I had ever worked on. Before that, I recall my years with Windows 2000 with equally great fondness. So, how could I be such a d—k head to those that wanted to run older environments? Sure, my idea of desirable vintage would be 2012 flat. So while I detest the Mozilla Proton interface and the look of Windows 10, I rather like the look of Windows 8 and Quantum. There was still some sort of dimension with the flatness then. Heck, I wish outlook.com web mail still looked like the Windows 8 style Metro client, like it did until 2015. And while daily Internet use of Windows 2000 and XP baffles me, I shouldn’t impose my feelings on others. Moreover, I’m amazed at some of the progress people here have made getting more recent browsers to work on past OS builds. Roytam1 is a big contributor in this arena, but myPal 68 is an even bigger achievement. Apparently, more modern attempts at browsers on Windows 9x are also being developed. I never thought I’d see that. I've come to realize that MSFN is a haven for vintage computing, plain and simple, and one should embrace that. I wish I had been more gracious years ago.1 point

Looks like the best idea would be to put you just on ignore because you are behaving like a troll. This is just another confirmation of trolling.1 point

D.Draker, care to explain what is purpose of your presence on this section of forum? Because to me, looks like you're an annoying Windows Vista fan, who is trying intentionally p*** off Windows 7 users.1 point
-
it doesn't really matter when the motherboard or the chipset was initially released when it has been updated constantly... point is on that platform you can use a modern cpu that came out as recently as 8 months ago, namely the 5800X3D, and even the Zen 3 architecture as a whole is just around 2 years old (released in Nov 2020). so saying you can't use hardware released during the past 6 years or there are no official win 7 drivers for them is just bollocks.1 point
-
Well, my applications still work, my hardware still works, and it does everything I need it to do, so in my case, yes. The beauty of things like this, is that something is only really usable for what you need it for personally (I know someone in person who still daily drives w2k just fine!), so if you need newer hardware or applications for your daily needs, probably not. There are some risks associated with sticking with 7, but I accept those risks and worries, as Windows 10/11 and Linux don't really do all that I need them to, while 7 still works just fine. I can see myself using it for the foreseeable future, and probably beyond as well. ヽ(・∀・)ノ1 point
