  5. ... But do take note that the password encryption used by Chromium forks uses data specific to the host system, so that utility can only decrypt and retrieve account credentials from the "machine" they were "created"/stored on, i.e. the browser profile isn't just enough to retrieve the credentials (unlike Firefox and forks) ... I was painfully hit by that when my laptop "died" (actually, its iGPU did) in the start of 2022; my portable 360EE versions (11/12/13/13.5), each with its separate profile, live on a USB HDD - when I connected that to a second laptop in my household (Win7SP1x64), the browsers+profiles launched fine, but I was unable to retrieve site account credentials with chromepass on that second machine ... So, I advise everyone reading this: Keep account credentials on a physical (piece of paper)/digital (USB drive) copy "unattached" to the machine you're currently working on ... FWIW, I retrieved 90% of my credentials from within a stored Serpent 52 profile ... In the end, my laptop was repaired and I retrieved (and backed up on paper) those missing 10% credentials (for sites running ONLY on a 360EE variant, not St52) via launching chromepass there ...

  9. Google finally announced the End Of Life date for Windows 7 as well as Windows 8.1, which will be in February 2023, with the release of v110 of their Chrome browser Source: https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/185534985/sunsetting-support-for-windows-7-8-1-in-early-2023?hl=en This will automatically also affect Google Chrome for Windows Vista Extended Kernel (although that might not be the biggest drama after all, since we Vista users can already be grateful that we got 61 versions higher than Chrome‘s initial EOL on Vista), Microsoft Edge for Windows 7/8.1, as well as many other Chrome forks like Opera. I hope Google only changes minor things, so that we can still run the browser, with a little tweaks here and there. If I think back to 2016, there were no ports for higher Chrome versions for Windows Vista, since we needed a kernel extension before we could run the necessary functions. What do you think? I wish Google would also offer an ESR channel, where W7/8.1 would continue to receive only security based updates for the next 12 months to come. I‘m using Firefox and I already know that Mozilla will probably merge W7/8.1 to the next ESR channel (v110-112?) too

  13. /facepalm. I should've went a couple of pages back. Thanks so much for such a quick answer! And for the link too. Indeed, the sound is working now. Firefox too. In fact, I'm typing this in my retro PC Vista now. When I removed the local redirect for Firefox and returned the original exe back to where it was (without modified header) then restarted, Firefox was eating through CPU when launched (constant 98-99% without any websites opened). It's a Core 2 Duo E7600. But it went away as soon as I removed and then reinstalled Firefox. I haven't even deleted the user folder app data. So, everything's working now! Thanks again! Donates where are they due Just a quick question: so the local redirect for Firefox is not possible, am I correct? I tried using this 9th of March version for local redirect and it didn't work.

  19. No Sorry necessary at all @AstroSkipper as i can see (and appreciate) all your helpful input and contributions here! Well, coming from Thunderbird 2.0 (as i wrote here, pt 4.) i observerd this "alt row highlight" had gone in mailnews (at least per default), didn't find a reltated switch in the preferences, so i searched the web. Found this link where is described the solition with a userChrome.css: #threadTree treechildren::-moz-tree-row(odd) { -moz-appearance: none !important; background-color: rgb(232,232,232) !important; } which i've putten in the .\Profile folder of mailnews. Since this didn't show the desired result, i even added the preference toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets set to true - but it didn't work neither. What was your way to get "alt row highlight" in mailnews?

You can right-click 360chrome.exe and select Properties then go to a Memory tab to see where everything resides in memory by address. I was using two desktop computers (one on XP x86 and one on XP x64) and two laptop computers (both on XP x86). I ended up at 0x10010000 basically for no other reason then it worked on all four of my XP computers without conflicting with a "hooked .dll" (from a mouse-gesture program I run) that does or does not run on all four of those XP computers. If I recall, 0x10010000 was the smallest address I could rebase to that was higher than the original 0x10000000. It was my assumption at the time that selecting the smallest address possible increased chances of working on all four of those XP computers (because other members here were not having success with 0x3e1c0000).

  25. OK. I deleted the 360chrome key and another key called 360se6 (not sure where it came out though) problem still remains but I found out the issue I was using the 360 loader file (1814KB) from the application folder and not the main 360 loader (500KB) this is odd because with XP I use the same loader and there's no issue with it whatsoever

  30. MWAV - eScan Antivirus Toolkit is an antivirus/antimalware offline scanner for a manual checking of the computer and cleaning if necessary. WiseVector StopX is an AI based antivirus program with a background guard, but its development has stopped, unfortunately So they are completely different and not easy to compare. You will find only a few tests of both tools in the internet. They are not as well known as the AV programs produced by big antivirus manufacturers. MWAV is a good tool, easy to handle and is updated on a regular base. I do trust it. For more information, follow this link to its English homepage: https://www.escanav.com/en/mwav-tools/download-free-antivirus-toolkit.asp If you are looking for an antivirus program with real-time protection under Windows XP, you can try Panda Dome. I wrote about this program in previous posts. In my system, I use both, Panda Dome and MWAV. A good combination, in my opinion.

Just because things have gotten to be "how" they currently are "in IT world" doesn't mean I have to like or condone the way/speed with which they're "moving forward" (I use "forward" tentatively here; in many aspects, I feel it's just "progress" for the sake of "progress" itself ) ; so we have a new major version of Chrome/Firefox every 4 weeks; but why should web compatibility suffer so much, especially for those not willing to ride that high-speed train? Back in much saner times, there was a thing called "backwards compatibility" honoured among web developers; of course, the web itself then was a much nicer place, not the current JS-inundated abomination ... Rewind, please, to January 21st, 2010, when Mozilla Firefox 3.6 stable was released; no rapid-release-cycles at the time, the 3.6.x branch lasted all the way till March 13th, 2012, when 3.6.28 was released - some 26 months after the initial release; I was "there", and 95% of web pages would render in the same way between 3.6 and 3.6.28 ... FF to now and St52: You open a page today and it renders OK, revisit it next month, it may not load at all ... Nothing personal against you, UCyborg , I guess I simply needed to vent a little ...

  35. @Tihiy With the latest Windows 11 Insider version 25309.1000 my problem has been solved again and SAB works flawlessly as it always did before. You are doing a wonderful job and thank you for this very useful program. @all Maybe they should try not to install 100 different programs on their computers with half trying to fix the same "problem". SAB works flawlessly in all functions in 99.99% of use cases. But if you try with countless programs to bend his PC so that everything fits 100% to your own wishes, you do not have to wonder that you have sometime the complete system broken optimized. Maybe you should think about what you want to change and then go on the search if there is a program that combines everything together. SAB has a lot of possibilities and individual settings so that actually the largest part is covered. I can not install a program like SAB, make settings that I do not like and then install additional programs that change exactly the same settings and then wonder that one of these programs then produces errors. I also have several programs installed, but none gets in the way with the functions of another.

  36. Exactly! Even the newest supported Chromium (109) is still going to work fine for a long time to come. Luckily Firefox is still supported, which is fantastic. There are many options for 7 at this moment, and while it may eventually end up where XP is at now, the future is much brighter right now for 7 users. (It's even brighter than that if you're on 10/11, but I'm staying with 7 for now because I prefer the old-school interface and the speed).

  39. It’s pretty clear that M$ does not want Windows Update to work for anything older than Windows 7 SP1. At last report, SHA-2 support did not have to be manually installed in order to get Windows Update working for Win7 (but it must be SP1 rather than RTM), which raises doubts about the official explanation - which btw still does not list the latest error code 0x80072EFE.

  40. Welcome to MSFN. If this issue only occurs at a limited number of websites, then those sites might possibly require TLS 1.3. It has become clear to me that you are not particularly interested in security software, and therefore see no reason why others wouldn’t be content with a legacy version of Malwarebytes. Personally, I am not very interested in gaming, but I would never presume to declare all discussion of PC games as being OT in someone else’s thread.

  43. Frankly, that is false, and your screenshot is of some higher version that contains the EOL time bomb. As I already stated, it is well known around here that 4.4.304.0 did NOT contain the April 2017 time bomb. In July 2019, I posted a screenshot of that specific version working on Vista here. The only thing “not working” to my satisfaction was that it failed to prevent download of the EICAR test file more often than not, which is why I prefer Avast antivirus on Vista. (Also It Is Not Customary To Capitalize Every Word In America.)

  44. I should chime in on this, as I have some of my own issues with .NET. 4.6 seems fine to me; it is the minimum version required to launch the Visual Studio Community Edition installer. Haven't bothered with it enough to go past the "Windows 7 SP1 required" message, but if I have to I will. 4.7.x (a very recent finding of failure for me for this one) and 4.8 however, cause this and a few other newer .NET 4.x programs to crash. 3ds max 2021 is .NET 4.8-based and also crashes after launch. I'm trying to figure it out, but it is harder to deal with .NET than pure win32.

  48. Your link basically says that Slimjet is as bad as Chrome (perhaps a bit worse). If Chrome contains "spyware," then a browser containing spyware now has 63 percent market share. OP yoltboy01 evidently likes Chrome very much, and would go to great lengths just to use a slightly different but still obsolete version released in 2016. Personally, I would never recommend "Advanced Chrome."

  49. Hello yoltboy01, I share your fondness for Windows Vista, but the obvious answer to your desires is to buy a Windows 7 product key and upgrade (except the browser versions you mention are very old for use on Windows 7). Chrome is not a developer's project. As you already know, developers were able to backport a few open-source Chromium versions that did not support Vista. I tried Slimjet 11 and 12 (based on Chromium 51 and 53 respectively) on Vista x86 when they were new, back in 2016. If no developer's project is satisfactory to you, then you could always become a developer yourself. Regarding IE10 for Vista, see https://msfn.org/board/topic/176927-internet-explorer-10-on-vista/. Regarding Office 2013, see https://msfn.org/board/topic/177934-install-office-2013-on-windows-vista/. Regarding Firefox forks that are still being actively developed (including a build of Basilisk based on Firefox 55): https://msfn.org/board/topic/177125-my-build-of-new-moon-temp-name-aka-pale-moon-for-xp/.
