I'd like to mention a FreeCap alternative: SocksCap64 https://www.sockscap64.com/homepage/ It's freeware, last updated in 2017. It is more powerful than FreeCap. FreeCap cannot socksify child process IIRC. SocksCap64 can customize the site to verify proxy, while FreeCap uses freecap.ru:80 fixed.4 points

News about Office 2013 on Windows Vista The full suite of Office 2013 Pro Plus installed on Windows Vista. A dream come true, maybe... I have managed to install Office 2013 on Vista and I have the method so that it can be installed without errors (it works with any program in the suite, except for Visio, which appears as an unconfigured application when trying to start it). It remains to see a problem about the license not being found, the same problem occurs in Windows 2000 when installing Office 2007 with a very similar manual, which is solved by importing a Windows XP key with the same installed copy of Office 2007. I will have to try if it works by installing my copy of Office 2013 on Windows 7 and importing that key into Vista. But then there are programs from the suite that are unfortunately unusable (at least for now). Some extra programs like "Send to OneNote" seem to work correctly. Here is an image of "Send to OneNote 2013" working correctly. At the moment I do not want to share the method to install Office 2013, at least until I can solve the license problem. When much of the suite works, I'll share a method in a separate topic and just dedicated to installing Office 2013 (and maybe newer versions) on Windows Vista, to make it easier to find.4 points

The error message that appears when opening Firefox x64 installer is: "Sorry, Firefox can’t be installed. This version of Firefox requires Microsoft Windows 7 x64 or newer. Please click the OK button for additional information." @thepwrtank18 You need to spoof the OS, or spoof the installer itself to install Firefox. Consult my post here for more information:3 points

Although my immediate problem has been solved, that's a good idea. My proxy solution has worked for a long time, but with all the ch-ch-ch-changes at the office lately, I can't be sure it will continue to do so. But it seems likely that ForcePoint would also block connections to public VPNs, so I'd probably have to set up my own (possibly at home). Doable, but I'll wait until it becomes necessary.2 points

To me at least, CCleaner up to version 4.19 was the last good usable version to me. I hate any version newer than 4.19.2 points

https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2022/12/09/microsoft-edge-and-webview2-ending-support-for-windows-7-and-windows-8-8-1/ What you need to know Microsoft Edge and WebView2 will reach end of support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 in January 2023. Microsoft Edge version 109 and WebView2 Runtime version 109 will be the final respective versions to support Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Edge 109 and WebView2 Runtime 109 will ship on January 12, 2023, which is two days after Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 reach end of support. Microsoft announced the end of support date for Edge on both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Since those older operating systems will reach end of support in January 2023, it makes sense that Microsoft would cut off support for its browser running on those operating systems. Google is also ending support for Chrome on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, so people looking to browse the web will want to upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 11. Microsoft Edge version 109 and WebView2 Runtime version 109 will be the last respective versions to support Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Those are both currently scheduled to ship on January 12, 2023, which is just two days after Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 reach end of support. The timeline was shared by Microsoft in a recent blog post: "This end of support timeline applies to both the Evergreen and Fixed versions of the WebView2 Runtime. Previously installed Evergreen WebView2 Runtimes will update as normal to version 109 but will not continue updating after that. After end of support, future attempts to install the Evergreen WebView2 Runtime on Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 will install version 109. Fixed versions of the WebView2 Runtime higher than 109 will fail to start on Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 and should not be used on those operating systems." To continue to receive support, people should upgrade their system to Windows 10 or later. Windows 10 will still be supported until 2025, so people don't need to jump all the way to Windows 11 yet.1 point

To minimize clutter from add-ons, I had to do this with a clean profile. Ugh. I didn't realize how much I rely on Classic Theme Restorer! Error console shows a large number of "unreachable code after return statement" warnings: Also a few "Expected one argument" errors, with no context to help locate the error:1 point

... Thanks ; at least a certain MSFN member doesn't frequent this thread, because it appears "socksifying" apps have been developed mostly by the Russians and Chinese (probably to circumvent state-implemented web censorship ) ; but that is not the gist of my post... One of the hosters SocksCap64 is distributed through is MEGA: https://mega.nz/folder/qBoD2BiB#BZbHB1tetB79SAvJEoVlLw Since my daily driver is Serpent 52, I loaded that link there and all 3 initial stages (Requesting folder data, Receiving folder data, Decrypting folder data) completed fine, with the page loading as expected; however, when clicking the green "Download all as ZIP" button, the download attempt invariably fails , claiming a "Temporary error, retrying": (you've guessed it, "retrying" doesn't succeed ) The same thing happens when using latest Serpent 55.0.0 (doesn't come as a surprise to me) ... To exclude any interference caused by my "dirty" profile, I tested this in a new St52 profile, too: It appears "upstream" have been made aware 5 days ago, but nothing of practical value posted there, yet... AIUI, MEGA first downloads data as a blob stored in RAM, and it then offers to save the full download to disk... It worked in St52 the last time I used it, ca. a month ago... Having MEGA currently broken in UXP is a "bummer", because I do use the service often... @roytam1, could you please investigate/offer some insight/workaround? FWIW, I had to use 360EEv12 (Ch78-based) to fetch from MEGA and it worked OK the first time (Ch78 being quite "old" by now, hopefully the UXP-breakage isn't related to some "exotic" Javascript being recently implemented by MEGA...).1 point

If I where you, I'd report that spamming cretin to the MSFN moderators, who the hell allows him to to use our inboxes to fulfill his needs for another forum ?!??! Why they want you ? Well, two possible scenarios: 1st - They're gonna make a mockery out of you, like they did in the past, I still have a couple of quite unpleasant screenshots somewhere. 2nd - Their situation is just awful (no surprise), and they simply want to fill out their empty space. What struck me as weird, why is he still here and @Tripredacus won't do anything about it ? Perhaps he just doesn't know that cretin resurfaced here again under a new name ? I was under the impression - previously banned users are not allowed. So report him the inbox message and his new screen name. This is *of course* not my business, if you choose not to. Then good luck to you on that "eclispe" or whatever that stinking hole name is.1 point

Latest news I have: https://msfn.org/board/topic/182107-grub4dos-for-uefi/page/4/#comment-1233863 In a nutshell, there were some issues with the hosting/provider AND the actual machine, so it was shut down and Nuno is going to re-deploy on a new machine from last backup. jaclaz1 point

I was thinking that you could make a short video of when you do these updates, and create a Youtube channel to publish these videos, the simple text description may not transmit to the audience enough the emotions you feel when implementing these updates. Besides (right now) the site gives a 404: jaclaz1 point

Right ... they numb us and rob us of emotions and deaden us. Some might disagree, but pills were only supposed to be *as needed* but became the "fix" and the brain adapts to the med and you just need to change meds or increase and this roller-coaster is bad. Your essence is not the depression which is why you said it "drained" you ... because the depressions is lingering and fooling you (tricking you) into believing you are weak; and you are not. You were right to stop them and that was not a good combination - I am medicated but have been for a while and still I have bad days, but you see, today it not one of them. EDIT: Fixing mistakes.1 point

I'm on leave this week, so more relaxed at least. Depression is an old friend of mine, when everyone else is gone, she's still there. I've got dragged to the doctor once, they must have thought my relationship with her got unhealthy. It was weird, the only question I remember being asked by my personal physician is if I have a girlfriend. I've got pills and got referred to a psychiatrist. I only went there once, we were just talking a bit. I asked what's the point of trying to achieve anything since none of it matter when you die. His answer was simply that it matters while you're here. I don't remember anything else from that session. I only took few of those pills (Lexapro - Escitalopram) and oh boy...never again! I don't know how to put it, but it's like they drained me of my essence. Just felt completely empty, so stopped taking them. It was a time when I had no idea how to go on. Finish school or seek employment...both mission impossible. The latter somehow proved possible. Seemingly had more luck than brains, but since then, I guess I am what they call "functional member of society". Kinda lame overall, but I'm sailing through it. With a bit of a mindless, repetitive, passive fun thrown in-between. I imagine I'd be even more lost then than I am now.1 point

Just an idea! What about establishing a VPN connection to circumvent ForcePoint's censoring? If a VPN connection is established, all @roytam1's browser with their own TLS 1.3 clients (set to No Proxy, of course) use this connection. Maybe, OE Classic, too. ForcePoint actually shouldn't notice a connection to www.oeclassic.com via VPN.1 point

Taking proper cybersecurity measures is not "obsessed" nor "paranoia." Windows 7 from 2015 is absurdly vulnerable, to the extent of WannaCry being able to ransomware your machine, and any piece of software being able to take full control of your PC with administrative rights, especially on Nvidia with over 29 bugs. Updated Windows is significantly less vulnerable. That's what you do not seem to grasp in full power, the paramount importance of security. Like, makes me think that until you'll be wrecked by malware extremely badly, get own experience, you'll think "Why should I update? It runs perfect." Do you not install fire alarms with sprinkles against fire too, will you not call firefighters, would you close the eyes in "ignorance is bliss" & drink the tea surrounded by the hungry flames? I was like you too, a long time ago, didn't listen, thought wrongly. Saying "Why should I install counter-fire measures? The house exists perfectly." will never save you from fire in a wooden house, for example. Anyone who have survived through the misfortune of a deadly scary event of having their old electric grid self-fry the wires due to overload,—like, causing fire in the house in the time when their Android phone discharged, left without any help from neighbours, alarms or firefighters, were alone enraging flames,—will always 24/7 remember how actually critical is taking proper measures before fire strikes, how horribly threatening this is when it happens. It's a miracle I survived! If I haven't done the right thing in noticing it in another far-away room in time, in acting fast to water the fire down, or if it had happen at night, I could be dead.1 point

I preferred much older versions of Ccleaner from before Avast/AVG took over Piriform in 2017. Version 5.64 had annoying nagware. Ccleaner’s end of support was discussed in a Windows XP thread March 2020. Of course there are other similar products (there’s a list on page 1, and shelby just mentioned another one on page 74 of this rapidly-growing thread which is not about software that requires the extended kernel to work).1 point

About reboot.pro, you need some patience, I just got a message from Nuno, he is migrating the board to a new machine since the old one had issues and *for some reasons* it was made inaccessible by the provider. I believe it will take a few days, maybe a little more, as the migrating process (from remote) is not "easy-peasy". jaclaz1 point
