Dear D.Draker, I count you as one of the most toxic people on this forum. How is it possible that you are in war with pretty much everyone? I no longer argued cause last 5 post you did interact with me you did not attack me directly and asked real question and discussed with me in general. But I meant YOU ruined the fun of using vista for me alongside with Dixel. (pretty sad about that) Also, thanks for your effort, but I strongly dislike opera in general and I will use edge/chrome with --nosandbox or just switch to firefox.3 points

english is even my native language and I was still bad at it😄2 points

I think you type good as well (your one of the main reasons I type so good now)2 points
-
I mean, you are a native English speaker, that's why I wanted your opinion! Anyway, thank you for your opinion, glad to see you being positive. That's really great to hear! Thanks! I don't think your English is bad, I still can understand it tho. Anyway, good to know my English looks understandable to you. Yes, mainly the ones about nature and the Solar System.2 points

'Guys' is definitely one of the many Americanisms that polluted entered British English a long time ago, but until relatively recently was only used for men. Groups of women being called 'guys' (often by women members of the group) is now common though. Personally I consider that to be slang! Anyway, having just hypocritically added to it, back on topic now please!2 points
-
Huh ... you want grammar and English opinion from me that way I type. Lol. Seems fine to me and I haven't seen any mistakes from you.2 points
-
No, it's not. And that one mistake isn't enough to prove it. Actually, there's nothing that can prove my English is bad. No. @XPerceniol @msfntor I probably have asked you this before, but I love taking opinions from you guys, so I want your opinion on this: do you think my English is bad, or it's good, and do you think I am rude or not, in your opinion?2 points

I can't believe what happened with this forum over time I remember myself discovering friendly place that helped me with my passion of using windows vista. Now it is full of hate comments and arguing over the most stupid stuff. Thanks to few mean people here.. Sorry I had to express my feelings2 points

It's also included in the Windows 7 SDK (GRMSDK_EN_DVD.iso), still freely available straight from MS. Those who don't want to install the whole thing can use something like lessmsi to extract ReBase.exe from \Setup\WinSDKTools\WinSDKTools_x86.msi and its adjacent cab1.cab. And those who don't want to download the entire 500+ MB SDK from MS can use Archive.org's browsable ISO content to only get these two files.2 points

Same case for me here, except my native language is Arabic.1 point

Alright, tested the load time of browser again after Windows startup and after the other startup programs have loaded. All on already good warmed up PC, well, as warm as it can get when the ambient temperature is about 15 degrees Celsius or so does my thermometer say. I can confirm approximate 4 to 5 seconds delay with rebased DLL here after 3 tries. Very curious. Now who can explain that? I save load of RAM with rebased DLL, if I take 14 same tabs, we're talking total RAM consumption of the entire system of 1,4 GB vs 3 GB. Chrome loves multiplying its core process you know, it's not just the first 800 MB and some, assuming you open a bunch of tabs. Funny you mention walking to the other higher end PC @NotHereToPlayGames, what about boot time of that PC or are we talking about PC that's already on? BTW, I got chrome.dll at 0x3E1C0000 now. LOL, this whole thing feels like DOS all over again.1 point

thanks everyone for the input ive now decided to get an optiplex 9010 and install vista on it1 point

My Windows XP system runs like a charm without any errors. We have an interesting range of working browsers which are constantly being further developed, and a lot can be done on such a system. Windows XP is a perfect Windows OS for old, underperforming computers. I hope this OS will live forever.1 point

If you want to just play games that run on it, its perfectly usable forever as long as theres hardware availible to run on.1 point

You mean without the daily senseless bickering on actual technical topics and the meaningless wishful thinking and do-goodism non-technical topics that permeated the board lately? It was once like that, good times ... jaclaz1 point

Office 2010 installs fine on XP 64 if you use compatibility mode to XP 32 bit. Works fine too. I'm pretty sure most people that want to use XP know they can't use the latest software. Software compatibility is same as XP 32 bit except it can't run 16-bit software. It has been my main OS since 2017. I use it to play compatible games like the first 3 Batman Arkham games, watch blurays and youtube. Of course Office 2010 or OpenOffice works fine so you can do some work on it. In case of hardware with printers you're out of luck. But many motherboards up to 2014 had XP 64 bit drivers. My Gigabyte motherboard from 2014 had all the drivers for it.1 point

TRACKING To see if you're tracked...against bad connections, redirections, encoded JavaScript, malware etc, use heuristics of Browser JSGuard extension; for Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/browser-jsguard/ncpkigeklafkopcelcegambndlhkcbhb AND too why not: Content-aware Ad Blocker (against trackers, ads... works along with uBlock) : https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/content-aware-ad-blocker/mjjigiphiihnhaiemofpiihnakifcjel?hl=en-US1 point

Oh, my power came back on Christmas morning actually. I checked occasionally if the meter had power because it has a little LCD display. My reaction to when I saw numbers was priceless. I got a steam deck, which is nice. I'm also returning my Pixel 7 I got back in November because I don't like how the stock android software has gone. Probably getting an S21 Ultra. Dunno.1 point

@Mov AX, 0xDEAD @Andalu I install my just brandnew build xp.iso of Ramsey XP SP3 with my laast acpi.sys with OSfakes and the settings in Integrator Patch Integrator v3.4.1.11 1,3,5,6,A,C,D,E on Options Menu (rxrepl).cmd via Firadisk to the MSI z690-A Pro DDR4 board to harddisk. There I install sound, lan, graphik NVidia, just all. I delete the pagefile. All unneeded devices I disable in Device Manager. This may be important. Then I show to it the Toshiba RD400 nvme device and install for this on harddisk the new nvme.sys driver. The RD400 is recogniced at once. Via AOMEI 7.0 I copy the whole harddisk to the RD400. And voila, at once the RD400 boots via the new nvme.sys, so in any case it will be a nice driver for Ramsey. I hope, that with the help of @Mov AX, 0xDEAD we find the reason for Bsod 7F, may be driver conflict Dietmar1 point

OK. Worth the experience. Taking advantage of this, I don't remember how or why it got like this, but the first time I installed the kernel extend in Windows Vista on this notebook from 2007, Windows 10 kept appearing in the compatibility tab. I will post here. I had removed Vista from this notebook to test Windows 11, which ran on it quite well. I had to disable a bunch of stuff, but it ran. But at the time it was with SSD. I went to help someone and sold the SSD to him. Then I put mechanical HD again. So I took the opportunity to install the new Vista Kernel (October 2022). And it's running great. Here I am running: Photoshop CC Office 2010 Firefox 102 sony vegas 17 Camtasia Studio 8.0.0 It works well because it is an AMD Turion 64 x2 processor (2 cores and 2 threads), with 4Gb of DDR2 RAM and a Radeon 2400 GPU. It has some CPU peaks, but in general it has very low consumption. Wanted to try running Opera GX on it. If it works out, it'll be great. However, not even downloading the Windows 7 version does it install itself. Edge, on the other hand, is just curiosity. Since I don't even use it on Windows 11. I prefer Opera GX or Seamonkey (which I customized to be a modern version of Netscape). Maybe I'll use Netscape (Seamonkey) on it. I'll keep doing tests. Thank you for the tips.1 point

I've been seeing the "Checking if site is secure" message on a few sites, I think it is not actually doing what it is saying. I haven't seen any that got stuck in a loop but I have seen 1 (somewhere) that never went past the message. It was a one-off site visit and I didn't care enough to get past the message. For me it happened with Palemoon 28 (Firefox 60).1 point

I suspected it's something like that. So this browser is just two versions away from Manifest V3 (https://blog.chromium.org/2020/12/manifest-v3-now-available-on-m88-beta.html).1 point
-
I recall seeing that about a month ago. At that time, the only change was from manifest 2 to manifest 3. None of the underlying .js/.css was changed. So there were no "improvements", just the developer jumping on the manifest 3 bandwagon.1 point

No, they don't care, you just don't remember 2016 when they said exactly the same and dropped Vista immediately ! It's fake news from them, as usual. New Opera 96 does not work on Windows 7/8/8.1 . Don't spread fake news.1 point

You have demonstrated over and over and over again on this forum that you can not take "constructive criticism". You have the very unique ability to pick a fight with inanimate objects, so you can only imagine how you come across to those of us that are "animated". You have the very unique ability to walk into an EMPTY ROOM and come out with blood on your knuckles. Most of us here have just grown to "accept" it, you are who you are. But so are we, we are who we are. I hate the phrase, but I'll use it anyway - "it is what it is".1 point

It's because the search function is crap here. The word crap is also too hard ? I'm sorry, I don't know how to use soft English. We here call things for what they are. CFF explorer I used in my tutorials : https://ntcore.com/?tag=cff-explorer1 point

Install Edge on a Windows 7 computer and then copy the files from Program Files to the Program Files on Vista. Be warned, it is buggy. It will most likely start on the first try, but subsequent tries may not be successful.1 point

I have zero plans to do anything with the loader. I personally use it and see no issues with it, but I also have my own loader for experimentation (which I do not foresee going public with). If we screencap'd DNS entries or network traffic being conducted by the loader, that would be one thing. But to label it "suspicious" for NO DOCUMENTED REASON WHATSOEVER is not really worth "losing sleep over".1 point

For me, Dencorso was the soul of this place from when I first started visting here til he slowly waned from the forum. He was the first one to reply to my first post/thread here, and to my great surprise pinned it moments later! I remember back during the 2017 crisis situation of the forum possibly disappearing, he'd PM people in charge of projects and pinned threads to make backups of everything important and be ready to regroup elsewhere to keep this community alive. I wish I'd talked to him more, but that's entirely on me... I'm not going to repeat all the good things that have already been said above about this exceptional person, but I would like to paraphrase Den's next-to-last status update (which I think in itself can be considered the manifesto of current MSFN). Indeed EoL != EoS (in this case End of Spirit) and the spirit of Dencorso can be kept alive here for as long as we all care to. May he rest in peace.1 point

in the mega folder there's a folder called "sidebar redirection files for 2018+ update users" and inside that you'll find a dll copy that dll to C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe.local *you* must create the siderbar.exe.local folder then you need to run DLLredirectionenabler.reg from the mega folder and restart1 point

This has got a little weird. I can play the sample videos, but actually not the "DreamScene Content". So I checked with my non-w7mfplated VM and it is capable of both. While with W7 media foundation, it only plays wmv content and not mpg content. The sample videos are wmv and the "dreamscene content" is mpg. That may be one of the main reasons why DreamScene for W7 wasn't well received, but need to check further. Update: installing K-Lite codec pack basic 15.9 has fixed the dreamscene issues.1 point
