My only occasional issue is running out of RAM, so haven't really considered actually replacing anything else, it just crossed my mind if the whole thing was newer, I could find some RAM in a local shop. Just few months back, I found DDR2 RAM someplace else, but can't find it again. Seein' how my RAM shopping's been going, I'll probably leave everything as it is in the end until some critical component dies...

In this short article I quoted above, I recommended the AV program WiseVector StopX. As mentioned in a previous post, you should configure it very carefully though to avoid problems if using it. Some programs have to be excluded from monitoring, otherwise they won't work. WiseVector StopX seems to examine many executed programs much deeper than other AV programs. If you trust these executed programs which WiseVector StopX doesn't seem to like, you have to exclude them from monitoring in two different locations: in the main program window under Exclusions and additionally in the Settings under Advanced Protection Settings if necessary. After one week of using, exclusions in boths lists are definitely necessary for all editions of 360Chrome browsers, Serpent, and some others. For some programs, however, the entry of the program or program folder in the main exclusion list is sufficient. Cheers, AstroSkipper

In the past, I certainly did have specific reasons for using Chrome. Mostly that certain websites worked properly with it while others didn't. Things likely changed and now I can't really think of any real reason to want to prefer Chrome for anything, except maybe to stop Google Drive from showing the incompatible browser message. So I think my initial reasoning for wanting to stick with Chrome is just old ideas, or perhaps that it is what I had been used to.

Origins Of Mysterious Radio Wave Bursts Discovered by Stephen Lunz The source of puzzling radio wave bursts detected by two of the world's largest telescopes has been found, and the answer turns out to come from the research facilities' tea rooms, not extragalactic space. Earlier this year, Swinburne University's Emily Petroff was the lead author of a report on the first observation of a fast radio burst (FRB) in real time. Previously, the enormously powerful but poorly understood events known as FRBs had only been detected in the records of large radio telescopes years after they happened. However, among those records was something else, which astronomers named perytons. The first peryton detected was in 1998, although it was not recognized as such until 2011. Perytons look sufficiently like FRBs that astronomers even speculated that the first FRB, known as 010724, might actually have been a peryton. Perytons last about half a second and are “frequency-swept,” meaning different frequencies arrive at different times, which in perytons's case means the high frequencies appear first. Petroff says, frequency-sweeping is commonly associated with signals that have passed through an interstellar medium that has delayed certain frequencies more than others. However, while FRBs are believed to come from outside our own galaxy, perytons were thought to be terrestrial in origin, since they registered on multiple beams of the radio telescopes, something that should only be possible for events that are very nearby or spread across a huge area of the sky. I can't speak for anyone else as to how they are acquiring it, but IOT Enteprise in the LTSB/LTSC branches is not a retail OS. There are two ways to acquire it: 1. Be an Embedded Channel Partner/IoT Distributor 2. Buy a computer with the OS already installed There are demo/trial versions that can be acquired. If you buy an appliance with the OS installed, you do not get installation media, but certain companies may provide recovery media depending on volume. So far in my experience, no one has bothered to request recovery media for any appliances with an Embedded SKU since XPe was still available. Nowadays clients are perfectly fine with hotswap warranties. it cannot find a Symbol file in the draw pen tip, so it reverts back to chrome.exe for it. other Chrome builds are working. after the doctor watson debug capture, i can send the logs to the developer, i can check for draw pen tip with symbol dll. i'll have to do it without the translation patch.

HOW TO RESTORE WINDOWS UPDATE V5 This message is for all people who want to restore and run the Windows Update v5 site on their computer. This is the 1st guide to restore Windows Update v5. Disclaimer: The v5 site can contain bugs. Please report bugs, so they can be solved by us. Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012 R2 recommended. The IIS and DNS features (roles) are necessary to do this guide. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Download the latest Windows Update v5 files : Download Windows Update v5* 2) Extract the files in a folder on your server. 3) Go into "the folder where you extracted the files > v5consumer > shared > js" and rename the file "redirect.js" to "redirect2.js". 4) Go to your DNS role (Start > Administrative tools > DNS). 5) Create a new zone called "v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com". 6) In this zone, create a Host record (A) and enter ONLY your server's IP address (in the IP field, like that "192.168.1.14" - this is an example). No human-readable checkbox AFAIK, but there is a Boolean setting in about:config. media.autoplay.enabled; defaults to false in St 55 (not sure of the default in St 52). I suspect a good JavaScript programmer (@AstroSkipper?) could rig up a custom button to toggle that setting! Probably because even if one were lucky enough to find it, it's an integer pref and it's not at all clear what 0 does, 1 does, 2 does, etc. Luckily we have @dmiranda: The bug discussed above aside, I too have found the default behavior (backspace=page back) to be worse than useless, so I changed my setting to 2. It's way too easy to have the focus in the wrong place by accident, press that key, and lose everything you typed! If I wanted "page back" assigned to a key at all, it'd probably be F12, or maybe "Previous Track" on "multimedia" keyboards that have that key, but certainly not backspace!

WinCopy will create a copy of windows installation. For example, move the current installation into a VHD. The first 6 modes are using wimlib (with optional WOF compression). It's like capture and apply without actually creating a WIM file. File exclusion using a WimScript.ini are possible as well using MinWin by clicking on the Mode label. The VOLUME COPY option is more like Drive SnapShot, it copies the entire NTFS File System (used clusters only). It's much faster than the other modes, but does not offer any options. Destination drive can be smaller as the source drive, but the last used cluster must fit in it.

Speaking of webmail accounts becoming broken with some browsers, has anyone been able to log into a GMX account and see the normal full UI, rather than the limited version [which I suspect is the mobile device version of their service]. Which browsers and versions have or have not worked for you ? A few weeks ago, I began to have the problem, even with newer versions of New Moon and Serpent from September, and including trying MyPal 68 beta 5, and older FireFox 52.x ESR. Their error popup says that they support FireFox 33 and up, but obviously this is not true. I am curious about what method GMX is using to exclude the newer browsers, as doing a UA override in about:config does not help this time, where with some previous changes at GMX, playing with the UA did solve a similar problem. If anyone has a Mail.com account [same parent company], the same thing has been happening there, according to a friend who has one, and they have also tried the latest version of the 31 series of Pale Moon, as well as some more recent versions of FireFox than I can try, as they run Win 7. like how buggy is LTSC 2019 on your PC? I have Win10 LTSC 2019 v1809 on my family's Dell Inspiron 620 desktop PC (a sandy bridge intel i5-2500 [2nd gen Intel] cpu) that came out in late 2011 [slightly older than the PCs RayZen have and using the pre-installed western digital 1TB HDD but has 8Gb of RAM] and is relatively fast AND stable (few to no bugs on there with the recent updates to LTSC 2019) LTSC 2019 feels like 98 SE (2nd edition) to me (not 98 gold/rtm)

Windows 10 LTSC 2019 user here , i can say i have nothing to say it works but its buggy but fast and i gonna receive update until 2029. So their you go , If that sounds like 98 then it is but i have no idea

I haven't built a PC outright. It has just been upgraded over time. I use a GTX 970 now (the 1050 Ti is in my server) but at the time in 2018 I got the 1050 Ti because I couldn't afford much and I needed something better than a HD 6850. The i7 came around when I had a 5700 XT last year, but I sold that card expecting that cards would become easier to come by, thinking I would have made a profit. Fortunately, that was not the case and I am stuck with those two cards for the foreseeable future. It runs bad, but I'm used to it now. I dealt with that for 8 years. The problem I have with Linux is that it does not feel like it has the UI effort that Windows barely has. Windows, still being a problem, for me feels more refined than a Linux DE like KDE, Gnome or these other derivatives of the main DEs. Plus, to do 50% of things, you need to go to the command line, and even then it takes a few hours to do. With Windows, I apply a registry key to map my user folders and thats it. Especially with how horrible NTFS support is on Linux (even with the new kernel driver in 5.15), by just shutting down the wrong way it gets marked as dirty and you need to boot into Windows to fix it without losing data. At the time when I grabbed the 1050 Ti, it was miles ahead of my Radeon HD 6850 I was living with. I want the OS to just work and have support. I don't want to have to keep fixing problems that happen just because they can (which happens to me with Linux) and I don't want to have to jump through hoops just to make the OS not so spyware (which is Windows 10). I didn't mind 10 back then because I was younger and didn't think much of it. Nowadays, I wish I could just go back to 2015, and not switch to 10 the day it came out. What I have been thinking of doing is just plopping LTSC on every system I have. Not sure what LTSC because 2015 is a big no no from support, 2016 has update problems, 2019 is slowly falling into purgatory with support, and 2021 is hardly considered LTSC. I don't mind the Semi Annual Channel releases, the support length is long enough for me, but I just wish that there was one out there that was super duper slimmed down but also not to the point where stuff stops working. Interestingly, when I ran 10 on a MSFT account, with all the stupid stuff turned on, I had no problems. I only had problems when I realized how horrible that all was and started saying no. And don't forget, I mentioned that NVIDIA support on Linux is still not working well for me. If you want to know in particular what I use my PC for, I use it for web browsing, playing games (Undertale, BeamNG Drive, Minecraft, Roblox, Detroit, etc, nothing much thats AAA), Discord, sometimes recording screen, managing my servers, doing school work. I don't use it for extreme gaming or extreme productivity. My laptop cannot run Windows 7 or 8.1 well. Read bio for my specs.

If I may play devil's advocate for a moment: out of fairness to Windows 10, it has gotten a bit better than the RTM release. And I'd also like to point out that XP wasn't always the "gleaming pinnacle of perfection" that many see it as nowadays; In fact, back in 2003-2004, I recall it was actively despised, and often criticized as being slower than the versions it replaced, namely 2000 and 98 SE (which was still pretty much 100% usable back then). It did improve with time, however, and once SP2 came out and multi core PCs became more commonplace, XP matured quite nicely. It would be nice if 10 would follow the same progression and actually become a mature, decent product, but so far, it hasn't.... Be that as it may, even after almost six years, I still don't like 10, and I won't use it (I actually did try for awhile, but it broke on me, and rather than going through the effort to reinstall, I decided to wipe it and install Linux in its place). Fortunately, because my primary is Mac OS, I don't really have a need for everything to work 100% on any older Windows, thus having the luxury to tinker with and hack up any Windows of my choosing ad infinitum . c
