  1. Guys I have to thank every one of you. I upgraded the ram to 4gb. Replaced old spinning hdd with 500gb ssd samsung 860 evo. Reinstalled windows 7 but remained at 64bit flavor. GUYS this laptop has never been so fast like it is now. It boots up under 20 seconds. Websites are snappy (well snappy considering this cpu) and for 2-3 tabs in browser it is more than enough. Before windows 7 I tried vista again on that ssd, but it kept bluescreening with dpc watchdog violation. Mom is happy with 7 though so it is not a problem at all. Again HUGE thanks to everyone that helped and suggested actually good things.

  2. My experience with Windows 8.1 is great. Well, my computer is not really good but enough for Windows 8. Never updated since 2018, most of the services are disabled. No Windows Defender, no other antivirus software. Ram usage 400mb one system is booted up. And it works really fast Im planning to get better computer to run Windows 8. Not gonna switch to Windows 10

  3. Yea, i will stay on Windows 8 until i get good enough computer. Its so much better than Windows 10. Takes less ram etc... Not so much telemetry as Windows 10. Only thing is Windows 8 Store is almost empty, there is nothing to download. But Windows 8 works great for me. Also have a great day!

  4. Thanks Den. @roytam1could I suggest that you wait until you publish your next set of browser updates, and put them at the head of a part 3 thread. That would seem to me to be the best time to do it. The part 2 thread can then be locked and placed in the subfolder for reference purposes.

  5. Goed gevonden / Good find. It took a little digging again, but I found three differences with files in the language pack "nl\devtools\client" folder, all related to WebIDE. (Which was supposedly removed by roytam?, though not really). Anyways, it works now, please try the updated language pack in my edited previous post.

  8. For you YouTube folks - here's one to try -- https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/418283-youtube-cpu-tamer I did not see any improvement in 360Chrome but the author does specifically state that Firefox-based browser see bigger gains.

  9. I do agree that Windows 10 is trash compared to anything else, (Dixel alias D Draker alias Win7-hater, I don't want you to argue with me, Windows 7 IS good, but not better than Vista)........... but, do we need another topic for this? I have already created not one, but TWO other topics related to this.

  10. Yes, but no common userscripts are shared between them... FWIW, I also have installed in that same St52 profile Stylem (a "legacy" userstyle manager, for styles that alter parts of the browser) and Stylus 1.14.23 (a WE userstyle manager) for styles that alter web pages - the latter also has support for the newer format of userstyle called UserCSS (offers configuration choices post-install); sadly, v1.14.23, the last compatible with St52, has become now quite old, several of the newer UserCSS styles won't install or previously installed versions won't update to the most current... One such example is Old Reddit Favicon : // ==UserScript== // @name Old Reddit Favicon // @include https://old.reddit.com/* // @grant none // ==/UserScript== (function () { var link = document.querySelector('link[rel*=\'icon\']') || document.createElement('link'); link.type = 'image/x-icon'; link.rel = 'shortcut icon'; link.href = 'https://i.imgur.com/veJX9o5.png'; document.getElementsByTagName('head') [0].appendChild(link); }) (); A WE (like VM) could never alter a tab's favicon for a given site... 11. I tried to make a "content.dtd" based on the one found at this link. But that did not work, maybe because of the #ifdef etc. https://github.com/roytam1/UXP/tree/650abe2cb9eb02c14369a807a6225ebb053d0b17/application/palemoon/locales/en-US/chrome/browser/preferences Then I found a local copy of "content.dtd" in the Newmoon 28 "omni.ja" file. Using that file, either original or a translation based on it, works fine. Attached Dutch language pack for NewMoon 28, version 03-2021. Except for the mentioned "content.dtd" file, it is identical to "pm-langpack-nl-28.10.0" Edit: Revision B changes and adds three files: menus.properties / webide.dtd / webide.properties pm-langpack-nl-28.10.0 Adjusted Post-03-2021B.xpi

  12. I use the open source Violentmonkey extension (WE, currently at version 2.12.14) in latest Serpent 52.9.0, as well as in 360EE... VM being a WE, it can only affect web content, not browser looks (this is not possible in 360EE, of course, but I use Greasemonkey for Pale Moon in St52 to change several browser-GUI aspects...). https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/410687-google-shut-up https://greasyfork.org/el/scripts/412178-youtube-dismiss-sign-in (has some overlapping functionality with the previous one) https://greasyfork.org/el/scripts/375525-youtube-age-verification-bypass (works only for embeddable age-gated videos) https://github.com/Mottie/GitHub-userscripts/wiki/GitHub-download-zip https://greasyfork.org/el/scripts/407745-bypass-github-ajax (in St52 and NM28, together with JustOff's GitHub Web Components Polyfill extension) https://greasyfork.org/el/scripts/395497-login-reminder-popup-remover https://github.com/Procyon-b/make-gis-great-again https://github.com/Procyon-b/GitHub-sort-by-recently https://cable.ayra.ch/tampermonkey/view.php?script=youtube_autoplay_disable.user.js (a must have!) https://cable.ayra.ch/tampermonkey/view.php?script=youtube_volume_normalizer.user.js https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/5566-youtube-links (doesn't work in NM27) https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/377047-old-reddit-redirect

  13. OK. By popular demand: Redirects removed. The 1st user to ask about where they went gets a kick on the bee-hind! @roytam1's own thread brought back and unpinned. I think creating "Part 3" and letting that ginormous thread sink is really warranted.

  17. Windows 10 is overrated that should already elevate the rating of older oses, vista feels clutter free and fast compared to trash10 and i say this on a modern system.

  18. I can write plenty of good things about Vista , sadly I'm not fond of typing . The main would be the famous Vista's quality . It's just such and eye candy , so pleasant to look at ! It renders everything in super high quality . Lemme explain , I'm a huge fan of HD audio/video , I have a big experience working with pro audio equipment , I know how things should sound. You can use Vista as your main playback system with pro gear , I tried Win7 too , windows 7 just not meant to be a good OS in terms of quality . Vista has crystal clear sounding and sharpest video rendering , win 7 - no. Think twice when you're installing alien mfplat along with the extended kernel.

  19. Does the date April 11 ring any bells? Today is the Fourth Anniversary of Windows Vista’s EOL. (Of course the 11th fell on a Tuesday in 2017.) I had joined MSFN a few months earlier, figuring (quite correctly) that this would be the last place on the internet where Windows Vista diehards would congregate. Microsoft Security Essentials was nagging me about the approach of Doomsday. I was in a very fatalistic mood, and selected a screen name and avatar to match. Oddly enough, I now feel sentimental about those days. Getting back on topic, VistaLover pointed out in a March 31 post in the XP forum that McAfee antivirus products old enough to work on Vista or XP have reportedly been unable to receive definition updates since January 1, 2021.

  21. It seems a lot of mice recently are just not built the same way as they used to. Sure there was always the possibility to wear down mouse buttons naturally, especially if you play a game a lot. Personally I've found that Microsoft Intellimouse branded and Basic Optical Mouse 1.0A seem to last the longest. Any that have the separate buttons, so not the Basic Optical Mouse 2.0. I want to add I only use optical USB mice and no ball mice (although I'm sure they are still fine) or any cordless or laser mouse variaties. A lot of the mice I see at stores like Logitech seem very flimsy. Another thing I notice about looking at mice in stores is that while there are multiple brands to pick from, they are all actually just made by Logitech.

  22. Same here. Very sad to see that the crappy, spying, crashing, bloated, FisherPrice-looking, user-unfriendly Windows 10 is being promoted by MS guys, who know the power users who used and loved Windows 2000, XP, Vista etc.etc. and still use it to this day. I hate its mobile first approach I'm planning to use Windows Vista and 7 and 8.x till atleast 2023, when full support for the three ends (Vista ESU, 7 ESU, 8.0 Server 2012 updates and 8.1 direct updates). Also, if I can use them for longer, I will certainly do so until either my hardware can't keep up or when these OSes become completely obsolete, and seeing as there are many wise members here at MSFN dedicated to keeping legacy Windows versions alive, that moment is set to come only long after, in the very far future. Also, I'm going to completely move to Linux when Windows Vista, 7 and 8 become obsolete and am never going to bother with Microsoft from that moment. If you've liked what I said, please do upvote. No compulsion intended though.
