Update notification! I have updated my special mod uBlock Origin from version 1.16.4.31 to version 1.16.4.32. I have made many changes in different areas. Among other things, I took a close look at all country-specific filter lists and replaced or added some of them. Additionally, I added to these lists their flags that are known from the webextension. Furthermore, I have removed abandoned filter lists and, if possible, replaced them with others. In particular, I implemented a brand new, rather unknown, filter list called "Dandelion Sprout’s Anti-Malware List". It has a good resonance and worked great for me. Since my previous release was unintentionally updated to the latest for this browser current webextension in Serpent 55, I have made my special mod by changing the ID so unique that this no longer happens. And so that my mod of the legacy extension is not confused with the webextension, I changed the name from "uBlock Origin" to "uBlock Origin Legacy". Here are some screenshots taken from uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.32 in the most recent version of New Moon 28: A detailed changelog and the download link of uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.32 can be found in my main article uBlock Origin Legacy - A special mod by @AstroSkipper. This one can be safely ignored, in fact it's even advisable to disable crashpad completely, and looks like it's been disabled already, hence the message.3 points

Thanks, I read that, but I still don't understand, what does "portable distribution" mean? What other ways of "distribution" there may be?3 points

I'm sorry, I have no way of knowing, though it's safe to assume it's still not, since the word is quoted. I'm more curious about the "script the browser needs to run". The "portable" distribution will have a launch script with these flags enabled as well as a data directory in the same directory as the executable.3 points

But it will be faster in future releases. From that same page: https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/releases/tag/v121 "We will make attempts to improve performance on single-threaded systems for future releases." I already tried everything to make it work to no avail. I will just wait win32 when he checks the dmp files we sent him, hopefully he will have solved it by then.2 points

Although I am not interested in Epyrus, and especially its developer is avoided by me, the users of the legacy extension of uBlock Origin can’t help it. However, at the moment, I won't add these changes to my mod as they have to be tested more deeply in different browsers/email clients over a longer period of time. If all is good, and these changes don't cause any problems, maybe, I’ll implement them in one of my future releases. So please, test @UCyborg's release 1.16.4.31b3 in different browsers/email clients under different OSes and report here! Cheers, AstroSkipper2 points

On Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3, for me, chrome.exe runs silently for a brief moment, then exists also silently.2 points

The X-Chromium loader works perfectly fine. You have to use the .ini correctly and adhere to folder/file structure. Then there are no registry writes and there are no permanent files stored in Local Settings. I did not try the 360Chrome loader as I've always used X-Chromium for all forks other than 360Chrome and only use the 360Chrome loader for 360Chrome. Both require knowledge of their respective .ini files.2 points

Obviously this browser will need a specially written starter app. I wanted to consider writing my own launcher, but seeing the browser is not portable (thanks to @NotHereToPlayGames), I'll hold my horses for now.2 points

Yeah, thanks, it's the free variant, perhaps that's why it doesn't work? https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/issues/178#issuecomment-19131895982 points

Personally, I never run "installers". In this case, you only need to use 7-ZIP (and extract TWICE). The FIRST extraction will give you the progwrp.dll file, MANUALLY place that in the Windows\system32 folder. The SECOND extraction will give you the Supermium files (that will not run unless you performed the MANUAL first extraction and MANUALLY placed the .dll into your system32 folder). I only tried the 32bit just to see if it does "work" (it does!) WITHOUT the need of running an "installer".2 points

Hmmm ... working pretty well but youtube is very choppy but bare in mind mister blobfish is using pretty ancient hardware here so I'm surprised it did work on my system. VERY Impressive work on the part of the developer!2 points

Looks like a Chromium with typical limitations like the older variants. Guess it's good to pay the bills if your whatever-provider's site sucks so badly. No need for polyfills. Also why is only Google on the built-in search engine list? It did crash on first startup on my XP x64 (only tried 32-bit version), but afterwards it was OK. OS is not updated beyond 2011/2012, except an odd crypt32.dll update from 2015. Laggy transitions/animations on websites, eg. changing pages on this forum, laggy videos (also doesn't prevent screen turning off during playback) etc. So CPU struggles while GPU has nothing to do. I see people being hyped up about Win2K support and what not, but, why? There's a charm in small footprint of period correct applications. Why would you want that monstrosity there? 32-bit chrome.dll is almost two hundred f***in' megabytes! 64-bit is obviously already beyond that. I don't know, maybe I'm just too old to "dig" today's kids' crazy ideas. PS.: Not this crap with the fonts again!1 point

The X-Files was certainly my favorite TV show of the 1990s! It actually ran until 2002, but I had grown somewhat tired of it by then (and both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson had left the series). I’m old enough to remember the last great UFO outbreak in the fall of 1973, and yes I was a believer like Agent Mulder in my youth, like many Americans in the 1970s. Perhaps you have seen Steven Spielberg’s first science fiction film Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), which was partly inspired by 1973 reports of UFOs in the U.S. state of Indiana. But I’ll bet you never heard this popular song from the same time period: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leKeknINhkc1 point

That is actually one of the UNFORTUNATE aspects of projects like Supermium. Focusing on v114 or v117 and remaining at that level is often times MUCH better than striving for v121 simply to keep up with Official Chrome. There are PROS and CONS on both sides of that coin, of course. Double-edged sword. "Secure" web browser on "insecure" OS does not equate to "secure web browsing". Rock... Hard Place...1 point

Not possible, it requires SSE2. I have NM 28 SSE edition on it. Computers from 2003+ must have P4 to have SSE2 feature. My latest can run it, not tried yet, I'm satisfied with 360 browser and asked me what Supermium can bring more to me, as DRM is out for XP. This computer is multibooting with 7, 10 and Linux with DRM compatibility on Browsers.1 point

Maybe win32 meant to just open the browser, not to actually run it with 1 page. To me, the number of 768 is strange by itself. A standard DDR2 module is 2GB, a smaller one is 1GB, smallest DDR3 is 2GB. If by 768MB he meant 3x256Mb of SDRAM modules, they are ancient history from 2000.1 point

^See this is why its so slow on my ancient system. I really don't know why I was able to get it to work with no problem whilst you and @mina7601 are having trouble - I hope you guys figure it out.1 point

That's not what it was. Scientific Approach has to eliminate ONE variable at a time. That was the ONE variable that OTHERS needed to chime in on once it was introduced AS a variable. Supermium DOES work for OTHERS that have PosReady, so NOW we can eliminate that variable.1 point
-
I also use a fully patched XP with POSReady updates until 2019 and for me it works out of the box after extracting. I didn't have to copy any dll files to make it work or something like that...1 point

Hello PugLover13. You cannot very well use WMC as a DVR to record TV without updated Electronic Program Guide (EPG) data for your TV channels. Microsoft formerly provided free EPG data for WMC users, but unfortunately they ended that service in 2020. We had a discussion about that at the time, but unfortunately the participants (including myself) were all Americans whereas your profile says you live in Poland. Still, it might be worthwhile to read: https://msfn.org/board/topic/180377-windows-media-center-epg-ending-in-january-2020/ Since you don’t even have tuner hardware yet, you might want to just forget about recording TV and join the streaming generation. As for mods/workarounds, there is something called EPG123 that can convert Schedules Direct EPG data (subscription required) into Microsoft’s MXF format for WMC, but I never used it myself. https://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/viewforum.php?f=99 In my opinion, it might be better to use third-party DVR software instead of WMC. I formerly used an old version of NextPVR on Vista. (Other options include MediaPortal and DVBViewer.) In the UK, terrestrial DVB broadcasts include about a week of free EPG data, but I do not know if that is also true in Poland. If not, you still might need a Schedules Direct subscription, but NextPVR has native support for Schedules Direct (no workaround needed), and it looks like they do have data for Poland: https://www.schedulesdirect.org/regions1 point

I just started again using Serpent win32-20240127. Overall I'm quite impressed with this as its been a long time since I've used it. I guess I'm getting back into the 'swing on things' again and appreciating Roys browsers. I'm going to spend some time tomorrow as I'll be stuck inside with a snow storm and try to figure out: "- [gfx] Cherry-pick chromium:1864587 (580e04c8a8)" And exactly what this means - its good to keep the mind occupied with distractions rather than the alternative worries and ailments. Thanks again @roytam1 for everything you do to keep XP and Vista in busyness in 2024.1 point

Win32 aims at a much bigger crowd rather than us, such folks care about automatic updates, Googel sync, DRM, Nvidia "shield" or whatever ir's called. Just read what they order at the github's page. It's understandable, esp. if we consider the browser seem to follow a commercial route.1 point
-
Trust me, I'm not. Let me explain. I've been waiting for this browser, I had discussions with win32 in the past, I thought we shared common way of seeing things, I mean heavily privacy oriented browser and what not, but seeing the project follows the other way around, with such things like google sync, it's simply not the road for me. I want to see full portability and as less fingerprinting as possible.1 point

FYI, I already created an update version of uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31. I made a lot of changes. I even installed and tested this version in Serpent 55. @Mathwiz When searching for extension updates in this browser, an update to the webextension of uBlock Origin is no longer offered. In any case, I am now back in testing mode. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

For checking ansd configuring your hotkeys, you can use Dorando keyconfig. It is very helpful. I agree with the opinion of @j7n and also believe that that the hotkey has been captured by another extension.1 point
-
F11 works in Serpent 52. Maybe the hotkey is being captured by another application. Although I have disabled most animations in New Moon 28. Full screen entry still does a gradual hiding of the bar at the top, which is laggy on heavy sites.1 point
