  1. I'd like to mention a FreeCap alternative: SocksCap64 https://www.sockscap64.com/homepage/ It's freeware, last updated in 2017. It is more powerful than FreeCap. FreeCap cannot socksify child process IIRC. SocksCap64 can customize the site to verify proxy, while FreeCap uses freecap.ru:80 fixed.

  2. News about Office 2013 on Windows Vista The full suite of Office 2013 Pro Plus installed on Windows Vista. A dream come true, maybe... I have managed to install Office 2013 on Vista and I have the method so that it can be installed without errors (it works with any program in the suite, except for Visio, which appears as an unconfigured application when trying to start it). It remains to see a problem about the license not being found, the same problem occurs in Windows 2000 when installing Office 2007 with a very similar manual, which is solved by importing a Windows XP key with the same installed copy of Office 2007. I will have to try if it works by installing my copy of Office 2013 on Windows 7 and importing that key into Vista. But then there are programs from the suite that are unfortunately unusable (at least for now). Some extra programs like "Send to OneNote" seem to work correctly. Here is an image of "Send to OneNote 2013" working correctly. At the moment I do not want to share the method to install Office 2013, at least until I can solve the license problem. When much of the suite works, I'll share a method in a separate topic and just dedicated to installing Office 2013 (and maybe newer versions) on Windows Vista, to make it easier to find.

  3. The error message that appears when opening Firefox x64 installer is: "Sorry, Firefox can’t be installed. This version of Firefox requires Microsoft Windows 7 x64 or newer. Please click the OK button for additional information." @thepwrtank18 You need to spoof the OS, or spoof the installer itself to install Firefox. Consult my post here for more information:

  4. Although my immediate problem has been solved, that's a good idea. My proxy solution has worked for a long time, but with all the ch-ch-ch-changes at the office lately, I can't be sure it will continue to do so. But it seems likely that ForcePoint would also block connections to public VPNs, so I'd probably have to set up my own (possibly at home). Doable, but I'll wait until it becomes necessary.

  15. https://www.thestreet.com/restaurants/taco-bell-just-knocked-off-a-mcdonalds-fan-favorite Taco Bell Menu Adds New Take on a Beloved McDonald's Item The Mexican fast-food giant has some new menu items that McDonald's fans may find awfully familiar (even if it's not intentional). Taco Bell has built its business, at least partially around the idea of not being McDonald's (MCD) - Get Free Report or any of the other fast-food burger chains. The Yum Brands (YUM) - Get Free Report chain even used the phrase "think outside the bun" as a tagline and it launched its breakfast offering by making fun of the Egg McMuffin and other Golden Arches classics. The Mexican chain has not been above borrowing things from its burger chain rivals. Its Nacho Fries are, well, fries. Yes, they have a bit of a spin to make them fit the Taco Bell menu, but they're just french fries with some Mexican spices and nacho cheese dipping sauces. Still, Taco Bell has resisted blatantly copying McDonald's. It doesn't offer a spin on a burger or its own variation of the Big Mac. Now, however, the fast food chain has been testing some new burritos and fans are questioning whether the items are actually what they're being marketed as. Instead, some people have suggested that Taco Bell's new $2 Chicken Poblano Caesar Burrito seems a lot like a beloved McDonald's classic that many fans want the chain to bring back. McDonald's Fans Miss the Snack Wrap The McDonald's Snack Wrap was an attempt by the chain to add a menu item for people who were hungry but did not want a full meal. The line first apeared in 2006 and it was a pretty simple product -- a tortilla filled with a Chicken Select (a piece of fried chicken), lettuce, cheese, and ranch sauce. Snack Wraps have been off the chain's U.S. menu since 2016 when franchisees pushed to get rid of them because they were complicated to make. It's not that it was actually hard to make them, but they required processes that slowed down the overall kitchen. McDonald's has teased its fans multiple time recently hinting at a return for the Snack Wrap. In November, it made a Twitter joke about getting Taylor Swift tickets, "its easier to order snack wraps than it is to get these tickets." that seemed to tease a return. That followed an informal social media poll earlier last year where the chain simply Snack Wraps was one of the, if not the, most-requested items in that very popular Twitter vote. Now, it seems like Taco Bell has knocked off the Snack Wrap, even if it;s calling the new item a buritto. Taco Bell Fans Clap Back Taco Bell customers have taken issue with the skimpy Chicken Poblano Caesar Burrito being called a buritto, Eat This, Not That reported. "At what point does a burrito become a wrap?"."This is just a salad wrapped up in a tortilla." "I don't know where the line is but this seems firmly in the wrap category," "I don't dislike Caesar salad wraps, I just think it's silly to call them burritos," said another. The Chipotle Ranch Grilled Chicken Burrito, another $2 item Taco Bell has tested in select locations, has been directly called a take on a McDonald's Snack Wrap by some on social media. [censored] the Chipotle Ranch Grilled Chicken Burrito is .Reminds me of the old McDonalds snack wraps," That comment touched off a long chain noting how similar the Taco Bell offering is while also clamoring for McDonald's to bring Snack Wraps back. "I know this is a Taco Bell sub but man do I miss the crispy ranch snack wrap…," KaterWaiter wrote. Another commenter noted not just similarity, but that McDonald's could easily bring the Snack Wrap back. "It's even worse because mcdonalds overseas has them, we just don't deserve good things

  19. ... Thanks ; at least a certain MSFN member doesn't frequent this thread, because it appears "socksifying" apps have been developed mostly by the Russians and Chinese (probably to circumvent state-implemented web censorship ) ; but that is not the gist of my post... One of the hosters SocksCap64 is distributed through is MEGA: https://mega.nz/folder/qBoD2BiB#BZbHB1tetB79SAvJEoVlLw Since my daily driver is Serpent 52, I loaded that link there and all 3 initial stages (Requesting folder data, Receiving folder data, Decrypting folder data) completed fine, with the page loading as expected; however, when clicking the green "Download all as ZIP" button, the download attempt invariably fails , claiming a "Temporary error, retrying": (you've guessed it, "retrying" doesn't succeed ) The same thing happens when using latest Serpent 55.0.0 (doesn't come as a surprise to me) ... To exclude any interference caused by my "dirty" profile, I tested this in a new St52 profile, too: It appears "upstream" have been made aware 5 days ago, but nothing of practical value posted there, yet... AIUI, MEGA first downloads data as a blob stored in RAM, and it then offers to save the full download to disk... It worked in St52 the last time I used it, ca. a month ago... Having MEGA currently broken in UXP is a "bummer", because I do use the service often... @roytam1, could you please investigate/offer some insight/workaround? FWIW, I had to use 360EEv12 (Ch78-based) to fetch from MEGA and it worked OK the first time (Ch78 being quite "old" by now, hopefully the UXP-breakage isn't related to some "exotic" Javascript being recently implemented by MEGA...).

  20. If I where you, I'd report that spamming cretin to the MSFN moderators, who the hell allows him to to use our inboxes to fulfill his needs for another forum ?!??! Why they want you ? Well, two possible scenarios: 1st - They're gonna make a mockery out of you, like they did in the past, I still have a couple of quite unpleasant screenshots somewhere. 2nd - Their situation is just awful (no surprise), and they simply want to fill out their empty space. What struck me as weird, why is he still here and @Tripredacus won't do anything about it ? Perhaps he just doesn't know that cretin resurfaced here again under a new name ? I was under the impression - previously banned users are not allowed. So report him the inbox message and his new screen name. This is *of course* not my business, if you choose not to. Then good luck to you on that "eclispe" or whatever that stinking hole name is.

  28. Right ... they numb us and rob us of emotions and deaden us. Some might disagree, but pills were only supposed to be *as needed* but became the "fix" and the brain adapts to the med and you just need to change meds or increase and this roller-coaster is bad. Your essence is not the depression which is why you said it "drained" you ... because the depressions is lingering and fooling you (tricking you) into believing you are weak; and you are not. You were right to stop them and that was not a good combination - I am medicated but have been for a while and still I have bad days, but you see, today it not one of them. EDIT: Fixing mistakes.

  29. He was right and hard to accept that but its about the 'here and now' - today and tomorrow (or in this case this week on leave for you - not even yesterday [its gone and over]) and it is quite understandable that you don't remember much ... I've been in therapy most all of my life and sometime I remember or recall little from sessions, but I try to be kind to myself and understand myself as I give understanding to other but save little for myself. Pills are only part of the solution and more or less (more than less) its about interpreting the process(s) that bring you to low feeling of worthlessness. You are not worthless and you have purpose, but not always easy to see. Any of us could not wake up and there would be no tomorrow. Will finish as it comes to me. EDIT: Corrections

  31. I'm on leave this week, so more relaxed at least. Depression is an old friend of mine, when everyone else is gone, she's still there. I've got dragged to the doctor once, they must have thought my relationship with her got unhealthy. It was weird, the only question I remember being asked by my personal physician is if I have a girlfriend. I've got pills and got referred to a psychiatrist. I only went there once, we were just talking a bit. I asked what's the point of trying to achieve anything since none of it matter when you die. His answer was simply that it matters while you're here. I don't remember anything else from that session. I only took few of those pills (Lexapro - Escitalopram) and oh boy...never again! I don't know how to put it, but it's like they drained me of my essence. Just felt completely empty, so stopped taking them. It was a time when I had no idea how to go on. Finish school or seek employment...both mission impossible. The latter somehow proved possible. Seemingly had more luck than brains, but since then, I guess I am what they call "functional member of society". Kinda lame overall, but I'm sailing through it. With a bit of a mindless, repetitive, passive fun thrown in-between. I imagine I'd be even more lost then than I am now.

  33. HTTP and Secure (HTTPS) are set to use ProxHTTPSProxy on port 8079; see screen shot above. ProxyCap appears to be a no-go for me: to configure anything, it requires the user to be not merely an Administrator, but a member of the "Administrators group." Groups only exist on domain-joined Windows versions, so although I'm an Administrator, I'm not a member of any group and ProxyCap won't let me configure anything. I'll look at the alternatives mentioned, starting with the proxycfg command. Something like Wireshark, I presume? Actually, OE Classic's author already got back to me on that: So the activation server is apparently www.oeclassic.com itself. And it sounds like he implemented his own HTTP(S) client, a la Firefox, in order to implement modern security protocols; that's why the system settings used by IE8, etc. don't work. (Of course Chromium still manages to use them, so it should be possible for OE Classic to use them in the same way.) Edit: Proxycfg didn't do the trick, but FreeCap did. I'm activated and (hopefully) getting my $37 worth.

  35. Taking proper cybersecurity measures is not "obsessed" nor "paranoia." Windows 7 from 2015 is absurdly vulnerable, to the extent of WannaCry being able to ransomware your machine, and any piece of software being able to take full control of your PC with administrative rights, especially on Nvidia with over 29 bugs. Updated Windows is significantly less vulnerable. That's what you do not seem to grasp in full power, the paramount importance of security. Like, makes me think that until you'll be wrecked by malware extremely badly, get own experience, you'll think "Why should I update? It runs perfect." Do you not install fire alarms with sprinkles against fire too, will you not call firefighters, would you close the eyes in "ignorance is bliss" & drink the tea surrounded by the hungry flames? I was like you too, a long time ago, didn't listen, thought wrongly. Saying "Why should I install counter-fire measures? The house exists perfectly." will never save you from fire in a wooden house, for example. Anyone who have survived through the misfortune of a deadly scary event of having their old electric grid self-fry the wires due to overload,—like, causing fire in the house in the time when their Android phone discharged, left without any help from neighbours, alarms or firefighters, were alone enraging flames,—will always 24/7 remember how actually critical is taking proper measures before fire strikes, how horribly threatening this is when it happens. It's a miracle I survived! If I haven't done the right thing in noticing it in another far-away room in time, in acting fast to water the fire down, or if it had happen at night, I could be dead.

  40. I preferred much older versions of Ccleaner from before Avast/AVG took over Piriform in 2017. Version 5.64 had annoying nagware. Ccleaner’s end of support was discussed in a Windows XP thread March 2020. Of course there are other similar products (there’s a list on page 1, and shelby just mentioned another one on page 74 of this rapidly-growing thread which is not about software that requires the extended kernel to work).

  43. Yes, it is possible to get latest Firefox version working with extended kernel. Make sure you have the latest Extended Kernel. First, download the latest Firefox x64 installer from here. Then, to install Firefox, there are 2 ways: The first way (IMO, it is the easiest way to install Firefox, since you are spoofing its installer after unpacking it only ): 1- Extract the Firefox x64 installer with WinRAR (or 7-Zip) by right clicking on the installer and selecting Extract. 2- Open Notepad and put the following contents: [C:\Users\<username>\Downloads\Firefox Setup X\setup.exe] BuildNumber=7601 (replace <username> with the username you used on your computer, and replace X with the Firefox version that the installer will install, e.g. if the version of Firefox the installer will install is 108, replace X with 108.0) On File menu, click Save As, and save the file as osver.ini on the Desktop (you have to change the "Save as type" to "All Files" to save it as .ini, otherwise, it will save as osver.ini.txt), then move it to Windows folder in C:\ drive. 3- Open Firefox setup (named setup.exe) from the "Firefox Setup X" folder and follow the instructions. Once setup finishes, untick "Launch Firefox now". The second way (I use the first way, it's better IMO, than spoofing the entire OS just to run the installer unpacked ): 1- Open osver.ini (which was created Desktop, then moved to C:\Windows) and add the following contents: [Global] Enabled=1 MajorVersion=6 MinorVersion=1 2- Open Firefox setup (named Firefox Setup X.exe) and follow the instructions. Once setup finishes, untick "Launch Firefox now". If you followed the steps carefully for one of the above ways, congratulations, you have installed Firefox successfully! But, if you open Firefox immediately, you will notice that the font of Firefox isn't displayed properly! To fix this, open osver.ini and add the following contents: [C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe] Enabled=1 BuildNumber=7601 Done! You now have the latest Firefox working on Vista with extended kernel!
