  1. And I'm posting CPU % from Win10 in a thread where most post about legacy OS experiences. OK, I dusted off XP installation today, relative difference is about the same I think, though the process CPU usage % is a bit higher. Maybe just Win10 taking more for itself or other under-the-hood differences causing different readings, though I did run the browser with above normal priority, so it was the only process with higher priority on both systems. Who knew, Pipe doesn't work on St52 from January 2022 because of one of those famous JS operators. I updated St52, still have to bring my extensions' settings and user scripts on par with Pale Moon on Win10, but that's for another time. Interesting how some of these front-ends for YouTube are less backwards-compatible than actual YouTube. I'll write remaining thoughts in the following days, really have to sleep now. Good night!

  2. @msfntor, @XPerceniol, @mina7601, @UCyborg, maybe @AstroSkipper too, as the most frequent users of this topic/section, did you notice the list of the users who are "allegedly" not happy with the way you receive your likes/upvotes ? Yep, NotHereToPlayGames is right in the sweet middle . And you put likes/upvotes on literally every word he writes. ... undivided love.... 3. I must say, @NotHereToPlayGames, that this build is the best one yet. Very robust. I've been playing up to 4 youtube tabs, 1 youtbe plus facebook and linkedin and whatsapp, and hardly any crash. Cheers!

  4. Did find this as a good read on h.264 vs VP9 -- https://bitmovin.com/vp9-codec-status-quo/ I rarely (if ever) exceed 480p resolution on my computer so perhaps the better compare-contrast would be to test 1080p videos. But I can say I would not be using my Core2 Quad Core computer for that, lol.

  6. Sad news for everyone here at MSFN. One of our forum supervisors, Dencorso, passed away on October 24th, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Apparently he was still upbeat and optimistic about the future a few weeks before he passed. My memories of Den go back quite a few years. He was incredibly helpful to me with technical problems, which is what this board is all about of course, initially mainly with Windows 98, and latterly with Windows XP. He was immensely supportive too when I first became a moderator here, something I will always be grateful for. He was definitely one of the good guys, and will be sorely missed here. Please add your memories here of working with Den. Thanks, Dave.

  8. I actually didn't notice, but I do now and that is disheartening to say the very least and makes me question to support users that mean-spirited when all 3 of those users have been appreciated by other members, both in the forum likes/upvotes and by personal replies expressing their gratitude. Quite honestly, it takes lot to get me 'hot under the collar' but that did so I'm happy you pointed this out and at the same time a bit ticked. I've said many times, I don't only use their projects because I just so badly need them (not the case at all) but to support their efforts - all 3 that were allegedly not happy - and sad to say, there are perhaps 2 others that come to mind that I doubt care much for it either. But you know what I say and feel, and you know I'm usually very shy; but SCREW EM - Period! As Dave_H said, they can go through the proper channels to have it removed if they aren't happy, but I foresee that left a bad taste and likely this section would die out anyway. There were/are good people that poured their lives and minds out in these thread and that will always mean something and be cherished. There is this old saying: When somebody shows you their true colors ... given enough time the true colors will shine through or in some cases seep through. Well, I've never needed anybody to show me the door, nor do I need the infamous cane to pull me off the stage either, I'm grateful to this forum as I've learned so much I didn't know before I discover this forum and this knowledge is very important going forward, and I'm very happy to the staff here at MSFN for allowing me to take part in this great platform and put up with some of my less flattering moments. So that being said, I'll show myself the the exit and I'm.. Outta Here! Goodbye

  12. You're welcome but I don't know what you're thanking us for, just trying to understand. I think Mina was say to ease up a bit, but, this sounds like you're dropping us now, or maybe its me today, could be. Draker was saying your like are counted more like tongue-and-cheek humor, I think; likely. Enjoy what? I absolutely love walking in the rain, nobody melts, and water washes away pain, cleans the air, the mind, and my beloved rainbow sometimes to follow, very rare. I need to to start walking again outside in the rain. Miss it! YOU, enjoy yourself and I would be so hurt if you left. EDIT: But at the same time, breaks from forums are awesome! Sort of time to clear the cobwebs, I think. I might do the same befoer its winter wonderland outside. Next week. Ha! Be well ~Mister Blobfish

  15. @reboot12 1) Did you sure about Intel SSD Toolbox, Solid State Doctor, etc ? On pre-Vista OSes these utils must traverse NTFS filesystem, find free clusters and send TRIM to disk for each found cluster number. Check with "trimcheck" for real results. 2) Try TxBENCH, it supposed do right way to calculate TRIM clusters on XP, may be it will works with SCSI too

  17. Is the drive on a different input than C? If the drive needs drivers to be visible by windows windows may not have access to it when it tries to write it on bootup. It was an issue i had with ramdrive. 8 out of 10 bootups would work properly but sometimes it wouldnt load the dlls quick enough and then reverted back to C.

  18. Virtual machine but not that way. You need a modern desktop computer with CPU, chipset and bios support VT-d feature, integrated iGPU, old PCIe graphics card with WinXP drivers e.g AMD HD7450 and second monitor. You install Linux on it, e.g. Debian 9, put the virt-manager virtual machine with WinXP and passthrough the PCIe graphics card into this WinXP vm machine It works very efficiently. Here I did it on a laptop: PCI passthrough karty graficznej na Debian 9 64-bit But I also tested it on the desktop computer recently and it works without a problem - preferably with the PCIe AMD graphics card.

  20. YouTube desktop in Incognito also runs the CPU less than Piped on my system. 21% average but did have one minor 54% surge as the sidebar was loading. Could easily be Intel versus AMD as far as that goes. (ran out of profile temp attachment storage so no pic for this one) edit - and could also be Chrome vs Mozilla - I posted Chrome-variant YouTube/Piped comparisons in the Mozilla-variant thread, ooops

  21. Yes, had the exact happening here, I was able to fix it by going to "th.bing.com" from the logger, then to "Static filter" tab, then setting the "network requests of type "image"" of "th.bing.com" from "Block" to "Allow", then clicking on "Create", and reloaded the page. The image then loaded fine for me now.

  22. I've had the impression over the years that there's less interest for theme making. I guess frequent updates could be a discouraging factor. Interestingly, using Win11 RTM based visual style file doesn't seem to be causing apparent issues on Win10 versions down to 1809. Edit: I forgot, there is another forum focused on such themes - Virtual Customs, maybe you can dig up something there.

  25. This is s very subjective question. It depends on your use case. For light indie gaming and working with 3D applications, it will absolutely be powerful enough. That said, you should aim for a 4 GB card if possible. Shy of playing very recent AAA games, a 4 gig 960 or RX 470 should tide you by pretty comfortably. I use a 970 myself, had it since 2019. Biggest caveat with with 700 series cards is the lack of DirectX 12 support. If you don't care to use Windows 10 or play very recent big name games, this shouldn't matter too much though. NOW the 750 Ti is an interesting beast. It's 700 series by name, but in actuality it's Maxwell-based (like the 960). Perhaps some early revisions are based on the Kepler architecture, but all 750 Ti's I've seen are Maxwell. Do your research on the card. Decide accordingly.

  27. GTX 750 Ti is a decent entry level video adapter for a general purpose PC when you're looking for playing "legacy" games only or watching videos in h.264 format. It is quiet with very low idle power consumption, which is important these days, and requires at most one 6-pin 12V plug. It does not have a h.265 decoder, for which you'd need Maxwell 2, but those are much more power hungry. One more thing to keep in mind that 9xx were the last cards with a VGA port. Anything described as a "gaming" computer usually requires the latest stuff of the day. I think you will able to run basic 6-8 year old games with zero anti-aliasing in HD with a GTX 750.

  28. Google and their Android Auto...old versions just stop working and newer ones leave old Android versions behind. I stumbled upon this recently, he films the paper with car specs and price at the end (2:27) where Android Auto is mentioned with Android 5.0+ requirement. This was filmed in late 2021 and even then Google said "No way, Jose" as far as Android 5 support goes, today they want Android 8+... Seems there's no actual alternative and if I've read correctly from the source I can't find ATM, communication between head unit and the phone is encrypted.

  29. Yes, and I have some examples for that. Google Chrome, as of version 99, got an experimental new download UI that is similar to Microsoft Edge and Firefox's download UI. Mozilla Firefox, as of version 106, got some PDF editing tools (some being similar to Edge), and setting Firefox as your default browser, also sets it as the default PDF reader, exactly in the same way as Edge.

  31. Microsoft Edge will drop support for Windows 7 on the same date as Chrome, since Edge is Chromium-based, and it follows the same date as Chrome's, so once Chrome support is dropped, Edge support (and other Chromium-based browsers) are dropped too, so no, this isn't a solution.

  35. Hey, I just tested some Windows 8.1 themes on Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB just for fun and was a bit confused because most of them really worked. If you can't find a good one at the moment, just try the themes you used on Win8.1 - maybe you're lucky as I am. Here are some examples: Jarvis Pachenko Snowy8 Soft Glass 8 Dusk Work Nite Shift If you want to download all these themes, I've uploaded 'em for you cause some of them only are available in theme packs you have to install and my package only contains the themes incl. Wallpapers, Icons, Cursors & StartIsBack orbs but without any extra ads & stuff you don't need. Mega.nz ThemesW81.rar To use the themes you'll need UltraUXThemePatcher 3.0.0.1 and Aero Glass For Windows 8+ by bigmuscle. Also StartIsBack++ would be good to adjust the taskbar colors & transparency and the startmenu style if wanted and OldNewExplorer to disable the ribbon and enable AeroGlass in the title bar. If you got some nice working themes, feel free to post them too. greetings
