Use a trusted VPN provider with a no log policy! The Tor Network is well-known and actually great, but if a node is a server of the government or a criminal, then the user may get into real trouble. In principle, anyone can participate in the Tor Network. Nothing for me! AstroSkipper1 point

Yes, I trust build 2107 more. It's been more stable for my use. Mileage may vary. It's NOT a "downgrade". The build numbers seem to confuse far to many people. Halfway through v13, the original creator went to Chromium v86.4240.198. Some of the earlier v13's stem from Chromium v86.4240.112. Even v13.5 and v13.6 use the same exact v86.4240.198 - YOU GAIN NOTHING. I *distrust* v13.5 and v13.6 - I WILL NOT BE UPGRADING THEM (so don't even ask, wink wink).1 point

Just to clarify it! I do not use extensions but a trusted VPN service to establish secure and anonymous connections. The installation in Windows is very simple.1 point

Thank you for the quick reply, that was very helpful. I think people have to use caution online. Just the way it is, but glad and grateful for this advice. I don't use these extensions myself, but I'm in a different place in life and situation.1 point

This thread is the right one. Don't worry! It's about anonymity, VPN and browser extensions promising safety.1 point

Hi @XPerceniol! I used to be sceptical about payments and anonymity, too. But in the meanwhile I don't see any problems if the vendor can be trusted. And that's the problem. At the end you have to trust the vendor of a VPN service, otherwise you won't be happy at all. What I did is to buy a time-limited for one (or more) year(s) or a lifetime license of a VPN service at StackSocial. They have less expensive offers. When you buy a license there, you get a code which must be redeemed with the corresponding provider. The seller and the VPN provider are independent of each other. Thus, the VPN provider only knows what you have booked. But in the end, it's all a question of trust. And there is no such thing as one hundred percent security.1 point

I still use DC Browser and was hoping perhaps we could build on it as I don't like 360V12 a all. But might be just wishful thinking.1 point

I had a look, and can confirm that nircmd has a provision to act when a process is closed (waitprocess). Of course it needs to be tested specifically if it causes too much CPU usage and if it works in this case. nircmd also has a "start hidden" command (exec or exec2 /hide) so it could be used instead of cmdow. jaclaz1 point

Need to ask a question in here, not for myself, mainly if others are seeking (some level of) anonymity should people especially in repressed countries need to fee able to ask about sensitive topics or mental heal issues that would be considered "taboo". Not everyone care to "blab" their dirty laundry all over freely as I. I'm just wanting to be able to give better advice because in some places in the world, such things could cost them their lives as some rights we enjoy here are still criminal. The only things I can recommend is what I see here, and it would seem people have to pay, but how to pay without giving out real name? People should be paranoid in this day and age, again, I don't want to give people false hope that there is any such things as (truly) Anonymous. I'm fine, but I do find myself a little concerned about younger folks that don't know where to turn online; let alone in real life. Take good care everyone.1 point

I got full-screen notifications about upcoming retirement of Windows 8.1 support when I installed the latest Monthly Rollup. Having an option to uninstall this mess and not install at all is great, so I keep installing security-only equivalents of these updates.1 point

Hi to all of you! I've tested the MU website version using the brandnew TLS 1.3 proxy ProxyMII created by @cmalex. And what can I say? It works perfectly. Fully compatible! Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

We must be clear here and explain that Ubisoft did not announce they were dropping support. They announced they will be actively blocking their program from running on Windows 7. It is a completely different thing.1 point

I hate these years too. Cancel Culture all over Social media, it's hard to detox as XP said. I don't know to take this in emotion or "Think about your life" stuff. I am going to not say much as i am paranoid about myself and what i say and do.1 point

What with Ubisoft pulling their games from Steam and dropping Win7, are they just asking people to sail the seven seas? No other way to play their games (well, there are few on GOG).1 point

Ubisoft just keeps Ubisofting and announced drop for Windows 7 support on June 28 (announcement available on News tab of your Uplay Client), took it's sweet time logging me in today after i was logged out at around the date of the announcement, all game covers and tabs were empty along with levels and points and took a good few minutes to load instead of loading instantly like before, challenges still often don't load and game installs are stuck on "Initializing" often as well, was fine before, reinstalled latest from their site it works same, likely will break sometime in the future completely. Extremely ironic seeing this right after EA announces 7/8 support for EA Desktop which didn't even have it before (and I was sure it never will) and after the Uplay Client for XP finally breaking login a few months ago for me at least after 6+ years of it not being updated and outlasting all other launchers on the platform by at least 2 years (Origin/Steam) and up to almost 5 (Battle.net).1 point

The other way around actually, they work but won't install as the installer became XP incompatible. 8u152 is the last with a working installer as you say, but versions up to 8u241 do work on XP if you do a rather tedious manual install process. 8u251 contains one XP incompatible file (sunmscapi.dll) which has to be replaced with the version from 8u241, but otherwise works. After 8u251 the file incompatibilities got so much worse it wasn't worth the trouble of trying to get it to work anymore!1 point

Support for installing Chromium extensions, saving their settings, as well as keeping cookies and other settings has been implemented: The original objective was to fix the "CultureNotSupported"-related exceptions that prevented .NET Core 5 from working, but under the belief that the .NET and Chromium issues were connected, I worked on solving the issue using Chromium. It turns out that .NET's issues are unrelated.1 point

Thank you very much for your archival efforts! Admittedly, I don't use or install Java all that often, but it does have its uses, so it is wonderful to have multiple EOL versions available in one convenient collection. I'm genuinely surprised Java 7 was supported for that long...from what I recall, the last (latest?) known Java 8 release doesn't even work/function in XP properly (I believe 8u152 is the final version of Java 8 that installs properly and works as it should in XP, while others install but fail to work).1 point

I have some experience as a user of a Ruffle implementation on another site, specifically the SMF plug-in. It is not perfect and is not good in some instances where you'd be better off using actual Flash instead. The specifics are memory leaks and not being able to handle large amounts of symbols. The symbols one is weird as it causes logic errors to occur.1 point

This addon make effect for some website only, not for PC or browser, or home network. I understand that I do, so I need something like AnonymoX.1 point

Forget about add-ons like AnonymoX and others offering free services! I tried a lot of them in the past. Most of them don't work or you're not really anonymous, quite apart from the limitations such as speed and data volume. To surf anonymously , to get an IP from another country or to gain access to sites which are restricted in your country, you should use paid VPN services with no log policy. Such connections can be used system-widely and not only in a browser as in case of AnonymoX. I am not a friend of such "anonymous or secure proxies". They are advertised with the promise to protect your privacy, but very often they don't. Anyway, I try to trust my paid VPN services. And so far I'm quite happy with them. But be careful in booking such services! You have to ensure that they offer protocols supported in Windows XP. Nearly all of their native Windows apps don't work in Windows XP anymore. In most cases they support only Windows 7 and higher versions. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

I'm not familiar with what a tor "exit" is, but I guess I can assume it falls within what US Law refers to as "aiding and abetting". I know folks (even here at MSFN) that were very much convinced that the "Tor Network" was the greatest thing since sliced bread as far as remaining "anonymous" on the internet. It's just hype and propaganda, in my opinion. If you want to be "connected", then don't for one solitary second think that you are "anonymous". Cloudflare DNS included. You simply shift the logs from one server to another, but the logs still exist. Heck, even DuckDuckGo will admit that. But ask a user of DuckDuckGo and they'll stand behind the hype until their hair falls out.1 point

Sup guys, does anyone know, if it possible to somehow activate the Windows 8.1 Update 3 Start Menu (Mix of 7 and 8, released for Surface RT/2) on non-arm devices, like my Laptop? I like that one and I also know that MS added the exact same Start Menu in Windows 10's early TH1 beta builds, but they replaced it with the RTM one.1 point
