The 'dog account' (Jaguarek62) posted on October 29th in another thread on a completely different subject, so it is still active. No forum rules have been explicitly broken here yet, and I trust people will be aware and careful about this. Any blatant commercial advertising will be considered to be spam, even from forum members.

Serpent/Mypal 68 on Windows XP SP1 (and older Windows versions?)
Uncle Captain replied to Uncle Captain's topic in Windows XP
I finally managed getting Serpent 52 and Mypal 68 to work stably unofficially on Windows XP RTM by using kernelxp.dll wrappers by roytam1 and ntdll.dll from XP SP1. -
It's not true, Chromium is open source, what prevents him to post Supermium here, as well? Or, maybe, we, the local peasants, aren't good enough?

@Dave-HIn addition to these several topics, including this one, MSFN is now flooded with this "win32 system" commercial advertising spam bots. The dog account, for example. It laid dormant for years. https://msfn.org/board/topic/186755-how-do-i-mod-vxkex-to-work-with-windows-8x/#findComment-1283485

It's not "false", release and instructions are two different words, and even then, no Kernels were present on MSFN! And the last "release" is obsolete as it's dated 2023, again, not present on MSFN, never was. @NotHereToPlayGames, the counter counts all visits, including the anonymous.

Firefox 48.0.2 / Firefox 45.9.x ESR on Windows XP RTM (and older OSes?)
user57 replied to Uncle Captain's topic in Windows XP
for doxygen the function look like this: BOOL WINAPI GetNumaHighestNodeNumber(PULONG HighestNodeNumber) { NTSTATUS Status; ULONG Length; ULONG PartialInfo[2]; // First two members of SYSTEM_NUMA_INFORMATION /* Query partial NUMA info */ //Status = NtQuerySystemInformation(SystemNumaProcessorMap, PartialInfo, sizeof(PartialInfo), &Length); // SystemNumaProcessorMap = 55, // 0x37 Status = NtQuerySystemInformation(SYSTEM_INFORMATION_CLASS)0x00000037, PartialInfo, sizeof(PartialInfo), &Length); if (!NT_SUCCESS(Status)) { return FALSE; } if (Length < sizeof(ULONG)) { return FALSE; } *HighestNodeNumber = PartialInfo[0]; return TRUE; } - Yesterday

For the shake of test I tried the Windows 7 (32bits) binary posted with quickjs (thanks to the developer of this tiny engine) and I wonder how powerful computers do the people that develop things have? Literally, it hangs a few times through the compute, even for a fraction of a second, while resolving the YouTube challenge :/ Multiply that 2 times, as I check the available formats, and then download the desired format, and the benefits of downloading+playing performance vs viewing on the page, starts to vanish. It has been requiring more and more compute time through time but... wow Or the whole process gets optimized or... YouTube is winning by far. For those interested, I only have a Core 2 Duo. As most here, old hardware, yes. EDIT: I wasn't initially able to make the latest published x64 version (2025.11.01.082330) work with quickjs (my fault by setting the path "--js-runtimes quickjs:'c:\balbla\'" instead "--js-runtimes quickjs:'c:\balbla\qjs.exe'" because I didn't want a PATH path either ;) ) and maybe it has a slightly better performance, but not much.

For everyone's information, WireShark 2.2.17 does not seem to work under my Windows Vista x64 settings. I may post an update later if I can find out which build is working. Edit: okay some updates here - it does work, but you have to make sure legacy UI component is installed, and legacy UI must be used. I reported previously npcap 0.9996 was installable on Windows Vista. It was only installable, but it seems not to function properly under Windows Vista. So I have to switch back to WinPcap.

Great! I just compared 2.40.4519 and 2.40.4520 and the only different is that you have to change 00087AD0 instead of 00087760. Patched it and now Serpent 55 launches without ApiLog, even works on Kstub824 as well.
 -
	no idea?
 -
	V2.40.4519 is somewhere in a ServicePack of 98 or ME. dllme.com: v2.40.4520, 2.40.4518 and more https://www.dllme.com/dll/files/oleaut32/versions Also 2.40.4519 here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=4842 File name oant4ts.dll > rename to oleaut32.dll

There you go, I've removed the link to the patreon site and moved the tex reference down a bit, I hope it'a a good middle ground and won't be interpreted as advertising something anymore New wording: Second System can be found on win32's Patreon site | supporting his amazing work is possible there

Here are your instructions https://web.archive.org/web/20200730112455/https://msfn.org/board/topic/181612-wip-windows-vista-extended-kernel/ There were VERY limited and never actually that useful and were created at a time when @win32 barely knew himself how to create kernel extensions and what he was doing Actually they were deleted long before @win32 left MSFN and maybe indeed to prevent confusion False, extended kernel releases followed Maybe @win32 doesn't show up on MSFN because he doesn't like getting distracted on constant question "when will I be able to run X program on Windows Y", when you have kernel extensions to do and real life things too, maybe there isn't much left for replying on forums. It's common for people who get more famous than they expected to distant themselves from "followers" a bit, because at some point it becomes hard to handle Well, you could find those paid products on the Internet and just install cause no DRM, but posting those here would violate MSFN rules and be very much wrong. That being said the access to SecondSystem downloads is available to "Supermium support subscribers" and not "Second System subscribers" therefore idk sharing what exactly would be considered piracy and what wouldn't be, but anyway I think sharing Second System binaries on MSFN would still fall under 1b (it contains win32's own binaries) and be morally wrong. I'm not a lawyer @win32 is i think trying to make a paid product but without annoying product key things and danger of no longer being legally available to buy once the dev decides to shut down the project (and it's not easy to figure out). Just look at what happened to BigMuscle's AeroGlass as an example of what should be avoided. So just calm down.

Is there really something like this for 2.40.4520? I've fully updated the installation (Windows ME) using the unofficial SP1. I don't really have the copy of 2.40.4519 somewhere, If I had one I'll try to see the difference and try to patch the newer "OLEAUT32.DLL" file.

List of new software unlocked by Second System
NotHereToPlayGames replied to TSNH's topic in Windows 7
Feel free to discuss this with any of the moderators. These counters are not seen the same by moderators as they are seen by userbase (myself included, admittedly). There are folks (we all know who they are) that log in EVERY DAY to hunt down posts (sometimes even DECADES ago) in order to INFLATE these "views" and "counters". But like I say, feel free to discuss with any of the moderators.- 26 replies

Why? The user @win32 you're referring to, has no contributions to MSFN, he silently deleted all of the Kernel creation instructions, abandoned MSFN years ago, nothing of his work is present here! Used MSFN as a starting point to get fame and then make money, deleted everything and dumped MSFN as a used handkerchief, I'd say, it's a huge and fat spit not only at MSFN, but all us here. See what he writes: "The original post was removed ... There will be further discussion about the evolution of the extended kernel in the coming pages." But he lied, nothing new followed. The topic is now empty. His account is useless, no valuable information, except the empty ego-boosting posts, most importantly, no longer maintained, D'Draker had left everything intact, including his Nvidia tutorials, people still visit his account in tens of thousands of views, can be seen at the counter, in a huge contrast to win32's account. https://msfn.org/board/topic/181612-wip-windows-vista-extended-kernel/ @Tripredacus, can the Kernel creation instructions be restored, and the offender punished? And you, enough with the paid links, I don't see your contributions as well. Testings of the paid products you advertise here, and use MSFN for free, don't count.

My Browser Builds (Part 5)
Goodwin replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
roytam1 In Serpent, you need to remove checking for browser IDs when installing extensions. Because so many extensions are not installed. For example realityripple.com/Software/XUL/deCDN You should also remove the check for the acceptable version of the extension. Considering that few people make them now and you have to search many to find a working version. It is probably better to do the same for your other browsers, especially iceape, bnavigator. Nothing is installed there at all. This makes ordinary users give up such browsers. -

Interesting Reading on the Internet in Today's World
awkduck replied to Monroe's topic in Technology News
The main thing I miss about "older" goods was the in-built design decisions, for repair-ability. I think, by the time I was born, food stuff had already started declining in quality. There was already information that farming soil was nutritionally depleted, in the 1940's. Clothing was certainly still better, but likely worse than what had previously existed. One of the more notable tragedies is the decline in vehicle quality. If I could pick the era of quality, for a vehicle, it would probably land between the 40's to the mid or late 70's (something with a manual transmission). I think Amazon, as a focus for product decline, high-lights some areas of well deserved and needed attention. There are variables, existing in that scenario, that really only apply to Amazon. I think Amazon's methodology is just one example, of over all trends. In some markets there is very little option, for quality. In others, quality is only advertised/available where it is likely to be afforded. It seems to me that the decline in quality is an attempt to retain spending; this in the face of climbing inflation. If quality products replaced affordable ones the state of things would be more apparent, to the common individual. Instead, we see an increase in housing, some foods, energy, and transportation. With this increase we also see an increase in wages (depending on where you live), but this increase is "not" proportional to market inflation. There are different methods of offsetting (at least perceptually) the disproportional increase in these financial variables. At the grocer, consumers may have noticed the increase in meat and egg prices (maybe a little with dairy). But, that increase does not enough express the actual inflation versus quality of product ratio. The quality of the meat and eggs has decreased, while their price still increased. If you look outside, of the common grocer, these products are even more expensive; in the case of meat four times higher, when previously being nearer to equivalent. The increase in the cost of oats, as another example, is less dramatic. But that cost is offset by methods of growing. The use of pesticides is increased, to speed up the oat drying process. By this practice, the yield "per season" gained enough to offset the consumer unit cost. It kinda looks like (despite making more money, by transitioning to inferior products) that the overall goal is to slant consumer perspective, on the actual state of inflation. Some product actually remains at stable prices, helping secure a perspective of stability. Gasoline is a great example of this, as it's pricing gets lots of attention. -

I think that you are right about HKCU settings should go to HIVEDEF.INF, and not to HIVECLS.INF. I must have misinterpreted these instructions. Here is an extract: As you can see Hivecls.inf creates Classes in HKEY_CURRENT_USER. here are the RunOnce entries in Entries_NetMeeting_DeleteAddon.ini that reset driver signing to the default of warn at the last reboot: [EditFile] HIVECLS.INF,AddReg,Addline1 HIVECLS.INF,AddReg,Addline2 [Addline1] HKCU,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce","DriverSigning",,"reg add ""HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Driver Signing"" /v Policy /t REG_BINARY /d 1 /f" [Addline2] HKCU,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce","DriverSigning2",,"reg add ""HKCU\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Driver Signing"" /v BehaviorOnFailedVerify /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f"- 95 replies

Yes regular chromium without compatibility patches. Just tested Ungoogled Chromium 142.0.7444.58 and it works. Google Chrome should work too (when installed somewhere else and copied over), but it's spyware (installer even more so) and I don't want to even test it.
