Hello @roytam1, there was a "major development, bugfix, stability and security release" of Basilisk yesterday (see here) with a lot of changes and fixes.

Just curious: none of them relevant/applicable for Spt_52.9, or did that update simply come some hours too late for your build?

Thank you and have a nice sunday!

frontend changes may not be picked and CI/CD changes (for example, GitHub Actions) are not picked (as I don't use these)

@Mark-XP: Since @roytam1 does weekly updates, some (most?) of the changes in the new Basilisk release were already in Serpent. With Basilisk, you get less frequent releases, with lots of changes in each one; with Serpent, you get weekly releases with fewer changes each week. For instance, "updated SQLite to 3.46.0" (one I just happened to notice) was in the July 12 Serpent release.

All that said, if you (or anyone) happen(s) to find a Web page that renders correctly in Basilisk but not in Serpent, please bring it to our attention by posting the details in this thread.

Many Thanks @roytam1 and @Mathwiz for your explanations.

I didn't expect that a) Serpent diverges from Basilisk that strongly, and b) that changes are taken before they're released in Basilisk in their entirety.

Aamof, there is a (leading) german news-site that regularly makes both, Basilisk and Spt_52.9 (, in Windows & linux) stop working; welt.de: the page renders completely normally, but if i open links under "SCHLAGZEILEN" (headlines) in a new tab, the browsers run hot and freeze. One has to kill the appication/process.

This happens in official Pale Moon as well... :(

I don't follow the release notes: whatever it is, the last month or so versions are very stable with unsupported e10 and multiple tabs.  Congrats and cheers!

Hey @roytam1,

I use palemoon-28.10.7a1.win32-git-20240720-d849524bd-uxp-8fbf81bb8a-xpmod.7z on w2k extended kernel (blackwingcat v31L, perfectly localized into DEU), and find it the most stable and capable browser, thank you so much :thumbup.

But all of the backported browsers (also mypal68 and ExtremeExplorer360) cannot handle VPN calls against fortigate, which I have to use with my company. Any help is appreciated, so I will describe the details:

It is possible to log into 2 vpn sites in my company via (A) web interface or with (B) forticlient.

(A) If I use the web interface with palemoon, I get connection. A web interface is presented after logging in. There I have a window to fill in the page I want to reach (https://xxx), get a token (salt) to the website, but then I have to enter my user and password again, this causes infinitive registration loop, the form with the user and pass is not accepted with palemoon and every other modern XP browser (tested on w2k extended kernel, but also on xp64 (native)). It works with firefox browsers >100, tested on win7. It seems not related to the system, the routines seems to stuck in the browser (tested with process explorer).

(B) The Forticlient app needs Win8 or higher. It could be really hard to get a proper forticlient for XP in these days, as the company hides the offline installers and a paid service contract is needed to get forward to them. It is also true, that these old versions couldn't be able to connect. But if they could, it could be useless. if the browser cannot handle the registration on the requested vpn site.

I can provide sceenshots, forticlient logs (Ubuntu 22,04, but also Win11), but also palemoon console logs. PLZ help, I don't want to reboot permanently into a modern system to get to these pages :realmad:

Greetings from Austria, Joe

Hey ;-)

One website of the vpn connection is working after upgrading to palemoon-28.10.7a1.win32-git-20240810-d849524bd-uxp-fde09c8b49-xpmod.7z, thank you so much. The other website complains about mime mismatch:

"Fehler: Die Ressource "https://XXX:11443/remote/login?lang=en" wurde durch einen MIME-Typenkonflikt blockiert (X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff)."

With mypal68 I'm able to work with the website, but it is a little bit buggy (crashes).

Could palemoon be adviced in a future version to ignore the mismatch? Or could you provide instruction how to get rid of the mime problem for this particular website with the current version?

Greetings Joe

can't reproduce it in new profile:

This continues to happen for me.  100% of the time on two different computers.  Both have even been completely reformatted and reinstalled.  Brand new profiles.

The Restore Session's Windows and Tabs is NEVER populated!

I've reverted to 2023-07-31.  There are slightly newer (but still a year old) versions where Restore Session will work, but my 07-31 profile was easier to update than starting all over just for the sake of a couple weeks of updates.

No clue how to assist in debugging.  All I know is that Restore Session does not work for me in WinXP on Intel Atom N450 and does not work for me in Win10 on i7-4770 and does not work for me in Win10 on Core2 Quad Q6700.

And all three of these machines have this issue with each and every version since August 12, 2023.  :(:}

Hello NotHereToPlayGames,

What happens when you provoke the Restore Session's Windows and Tabs (Well, this is embarrassing) by stopping all internet traffic,as I described in my previous post ?

Hello NotHereToPlayGames,

Your answer:
"That only gives me a Server not found."

I get exactly that same result when just stopping all internet traffic.

Did you follow the exact procedure (posted below again) ?

 1. Rendering above URL(website) with ST52
 2. End Process (basilisk.exe) with Windows Task Manager
 3. Restart St52
 4. Recovering/rendering above URL(website) with ST52
 5. Again End Process (basilisk.exe) with Windows Task Manager
 6. Stop All Traffic with FIREWALL
 7. Again restart St52
 8. Well, this is embarrassing.

This feature works as it is intended in 2023-07-31 and then a week or two of releases after 2023-07-31.

2023-07-31 will have to be the end of the line for me if it cannot be fixed.

No clue how to assist further.  Only know that this issue remains an issue after an XP reformat/reinstall with brand new profile and this issue remains an issue after a Win10 reformat/reinstall with brand new profile.
