AstroSkipper
47 minutes ago, Mark-XP said: If Serpent looses the session (which happens very rarely) one can also proceed this way: 1. Open at least a second tab, 2. Quit the browser, and 3. Copy the recovery.js in <profile>\sessionstore-backups to sessionstore.js in the <profile> folder. At least this method worked for me (approximately once a year or so). Thanks for the tip! Maybe, this helps next time in a crashed profile where the Session Manager extension wasn't installed. But unfortunately none of this answers what is going on with the Restore Previous Session entry. Apart from that, I have started using the OneTab extension more intensively again to not lose important tabs anymore. I don't normally use any kind of filtering software mentioned above either, no firewall, no anti-malware, no anti-virus, nothing. FWIW, I'm behind NAT. Proxomitron - only for some small functional tweaks of one specific piece of software at work. And to stop extensions auto-update on Chromium browsers, but I rarely launch those these days. 2 hours ago, NotHereToPlayGames said: I use my Serpent 52's Restore Session feature at least once a week. It has always worked and it has always filled in the table of windows/tab - BUT ONLY IF I USE A YEAR-OLD VERSION (which I am fine and content with). No long-term experience with roytam1's stuff, but I'm still carrying on with the session from 2019 at work. Even managed to migrate it from Basilisk to Pale Moon few years back, somehow even tab groups survived (needs an extension). No session related extensions used (Tab Mix Plus offers some session management, but I don't use that feature). And it is possible, will deep-dive this weekend, but it is possible that my ground-up profile-build process in Serpent/Basilisk uses about:config entries from my Pale Moon/New Moon original profile. Unsure.
AstroSkipper
Although I am behind a router with a NAT- firewall, I always use a software firewall to control all incoming and outgoing connections. There are programmes installed in my system I do not allow to connect to the internet. Furthermore, I always use an antimalware programme. All in all, I consider such an configuration as a basic one when it comes to the matter security. But all that is not yet an answer what is going on with the Restore Previous Session entry of New Moon's or Serpent's History menu. NotHereToPlayGames
My one-year-old WORKING RESTORE SESSION version of Serpent 52 also has the history menu "grayed out". I have not "started all over" (again) to make sure that my profile rebuild process isn't the cause of my "newer" Serpent 52's NOT working as far as Restore Session. My profile rebuild process basically "has to be" the root cause at this point. I admit I did not test Restore Session until AFTER rebuilding my profile. Likely will not get to that until over the weekend. Edited August 22 by NotHereToPlayGames
NotHereToPlayGames
Oh, the theme that I use for my Serpent 52 is called Photonic 4.3.1. The only extensions that I use are called Autofill Forms 1.1.0.1, Status-4-Evar Revived 2019.10.11.3, Stylish 2.1.1 (with a userstyle affecting XUL GUI items), and Tabs on Bottom 0.7.3. I have Lull The Tabs 1.4.3 but it never seems to make a bit of difference on the MEMORY LEAKS of Serpent 52 so I keep it disabled and PREFER to resolve memory "pile-up" with a TASK KILL then restart to the RESTORE SESSION screen. Thus my current dilemma and having to stay on a one-year-old version until resolved (which all signs suggest profile at the moment).

Simply unpack the most recent version of Serpent to a folder and create a new, clean profile without any modification! Then test the Restore Session functionality! It's that simple. No rebuilding of whatever. First checking if it is now working at all. When done, you can rebuild whatever you want to. And I bet you that the result will be that Session Restore works, but the Restore Previous Session entry is and remains greyed out. NotHereToPlayGames
Okay, I can confirm that a brand new unpack, create clean profile, and test has Restore Session *working* in 2024-08-15. I'll wait for this weekend's release before adding in my about:config changes, theme, and extensions, one variable at a time, to see if one of those variables is/was the culprit. I "thought" I did this OVER A YEAR AGO when this feature stopped working, but I simply "settled" with keeping the OLDER version (now over a year old). But no, I cannot be 100% sure of that, it was over a year ago, lol.
NotHereToPlayGames
Yeah, a "little embarassing", lol. But thanks to all for verifying on your end that everything was working.
