My Browser Builds (Part 3)

When I start taking things apart they usually don't go back together

Reminds me of when I was right around 14 years old, I found the hiding place where Santa Clause stored some of our gifts under mom and dad's bed.

I found a brand new VCR still in the box.

Toted it to my room, opened up the box, grabbed my set of screwdrivers, and I had that thing disassembled into 20-30 pieces within the hour or so it took mom to catch me.

She was at a total loss and made me go outside until dad got home from work.

Dad gets home and hollers up to the treehouse where I was adding a new level, "Mom says you have something to show me."

I climb down and walk him to my room, "I wanted to see how it works."

His only reply, "As long as it still works when you put it back together."

It did!  And not only that, but mom and dad still have it!

And who is to say that your DNS records are safer in the hands of Cloudflare opposed to your own ISP?  That's the propaganda I just don't buy into.

I just believe, stongly, that if I were that "concerned" with my DNS queries, then I should sell the house and build a gingerbread house in the hills and live off of rain water, gooseberries, tree bark, wind, and solar.

These tricks have become a concern for the Googles of the world, whose business models rely on collecting our data and serving ads; so much so that some of them are building their own DNS clients into their adware to bypass any such misdirection. The built-in server always goes to the IP address of a well-known DNS server, thus bypassing any hosts file entries, Pi-Holes, or what have you.

Coming to a "theater near you", even on Windows, starting with Google Chrome v103 :realmad: :

The built-in DNS client is enabled by default on macOS, Android and Chrome OS. Chrome on Windows will also use the built-in DNS client by default as early as Chrome 103. Enterprises can opt out by setting BuiltInDnsClientEnabled policy to Disabled.

Non-Enterprise ordinary users won't have the option to "disable", unless, of course, the "community" juggles something up...

I once knew a guy that ran a "Tor Network Server".  I cannot claim to know "how" that works, but I do know the guy running that server would tell story after story of how many people were downloading illegal software and movies through his "server".

He swore up and down that he could not be held liable for the illegal actions occurring on his "server".  Again, cannot claim to know "how" that works.

But I do suspect very highly that the people on this "Tor Network" had no clue that the owners of these "servers" had their IP Address and knew what they were downloading.

better not to become a tor "exit". I did that in the past and police reached me (thay said that they found my IP uploaded child porn) and checked all my networked machines in an early morning. Several hours later they found nothing and told me not to become an exit or they will come again.

I'm not familiar with what a tor "exit" is, but I guess I can assume it falls within what US Law refers to as "aiding and abetting".

I know folks (even here at MSFN) that were very much convinced that the "Tor Network" was the greatest thing since sliced bread as far as remaining "anonymous" on the internet.

It's just hype and propaganda, in my opinion.  If you want to be "connected", then don't for one solitary second think that you are "anonymous".

Cloudflare DNS included.  You simply shift the logs from one server to another, but the logs still exist.  Heck, even DuckDuckGo will admit that.  But ask a user of DuckDuckGo and they'll stand behind the hype until their hair falls out.

I think it's not an important fix for as long as this solution exists. I've made a greasemonkey script that automatically changes these URLs, if you're interested: https://git.lumen.sh/Fierelier/fiers-grease/src/branch/master/Reddit - Old layout.user.js - Just click on Raw on top of the code to install it.

I disagree, that "solution" is like not fixing broken Bugatti Chiron and taking VW Bug for a drive instead. Sure you got to destination, but your Bugatti is still broken. Same with websites, you don't have "old" versions of many websites available. Also, someone else already wrote a similar user script - https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/40897-old-reddit-please.

UXP browsers will need to be updated to understand regex named capture groups. I doubt roytam1 is the correct address for such issues. I tried rewriting that part Reddit code, but got the code wrong (with help of palefill extension)...may take a look at it again this weekend. The script executes without syntax errors only when the site doesn't intend to hide most of discussion and show the button to view it.

Hi everyone!

Hope all is well on this lovely Friday :)

Is the pdf also broken in 360 Chrome for you guys? Blank page on Serpent and 360 Chrome but I can view pdf images on web pages on 360 v11, but not saved pdf files. Just a tad confused here. Hopefully Roy's new Serpent release will correct this - I'd rather use a web browser to open pdf's rather than even go back to adobe. I could be wrong, but I think New Moon doesn't view pdfs, again, not sure.

Hi @XPerceniol, I use PDF-XChange Viewer for years and it's working fine in Windows XP. Comparing to Adobe it is lightweight and you have editing function. It can be integrated into browsers by its provided plugin. Have a look here:

I've got new Reddit's View Entire Discussion button working. The expressions I wrote to set the resulting variables made from matching regex function call was totally wrong, should be:

const s=t.match(i),
o=!s||null==s[1]?void 0:s[1],
r=!s||null==s[2]?void 0:s[2];

Instead of...

const s=t.match(i),
o=null===s[1]?void 0:s[1],
r=null=== [2]?void 0:s[2];

Now, does Git work on Vista...it does!

Awaiting approval. :) https://github.com/martok/palefill/pull/15

Roytam1 you code forks of Palemoon (Newmoon) and Firefox that are indicated to work with CPU SSE (-sse) on end of the filenames

Are there any other browsers you code that can be run on XP SP3 with CPU SSE ..

I look for end of filename for indication of those, ask incase there are others without the filename -sse indication.

TY for that recommendation and I trust it if you do.
