@Radish - What, exactly, do you think this topic is about? Maybe avoiding just those updates (in the first post)?

Windows 10 10240 to 10586 upgrade change reports
submix8c replied to Tripredacus's topic in Windows 10
(sigh...) Guess I'm *definitely* doing the Upgrade (to get the Activation lock) then restoring back to Win7. I'm not comfortable with this mish-mash. God help the Server folks. -
You may want to look back and find the KB fix that messed up the font rendering. Somehere buried in MSFN (this topic?) is his post about it.
-
The OP may want to read this (MDT topic, though) - https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1110362-windows-10-and-mdt?page=1 and this (loosely relates to above) - http://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-10-media-creation-tool-create-installation-media-upgrade Also, i haven't yet actually tried anything with the downloaded ISO's but using the latest 7-Zip I can confirm the contents are: BOOT.WIM - Index1=Windows PE Index2=Windows Setup INSTALL.WIM - Index1=Professional Index2=Home (Core?) ?No WinRE? The first link implies the ESD has four entries (a/l for x64?) and one post suggests the needed Index is 4 (for whatever reason). I'm fixing to get them via MediaCreationTool to see what the heck this is all about. That is, as soon as I get a chance, having an XP available (hooked up) ATM. Sorry for barging in, but trying to help on an OS that I haven't even installed yet.

@maxXPsoft - I may need some help with some of those "unwanted items". My brother is (or was) considering WinX and I'm pretty sure he (nor I) would want some of it. He's sitting tight on Win7Pro HP OEM right now (a PC he got from a business) but asked about the "Free Winx". I warned him off (Win7 support->2020?) but told him he would need to Upgrade once pretty soon (then restore his Win7) if he expected to use it after Win7. This is going to be fun (not!), and thanx for the tool.

? Virtual resolution? Have you tried any other available refresh rates?
-
Well, you didn'ty pay attention. Are you using an iPhone and not see it? You don't get to be Patron, Moderator, Supervisor, Developer, (whatever) based on post count. Is that your intent? If so, then cease posting. It won't help. Better yet, post with actual helpful information - you, too, may become a Patron. But definitely not by your methods.

If it has XP Mode capabilities like Windows7, then the XP is free. However - https://steamcommunity.com/app/297000/discussions/0/604941528473551954/ And here appears to be something to test with (if in runs on WinX). http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri?itemId=12443

Right here. "Literally" not belittling... I suppose you can write something that does that?
-
Frain bart... yeah, that would work. Would have to install/learn Linux. But YAY FUN!
-
Try reading a little closer. Should I hilite the pertinent parts? I note that you joined nearly ywo years ago and all of a sudden you come back as an Expert on WinX. I suppose you didn't notice all the folks getting th Previews or the tragically long WinX First Impressions thread? Please also note my status on MSFN. I didn't get it from providing misinformation or belittling someone's accomplishments. Who's the rude one here, Sir J. Monroe? YOU came onto this thread and trounced on someone. NOW (once again) STOP IT, please!

If he were to run XP In a VM then he would have to have XP or above installed. Not really sure he wants to pay for Win7+ just to run XP (which he already has). Unless I'm missing something?
-
ISO files. http://microsoft.com/software-download/techbench Media Creation downloads the "parts" (AFAICR) to make the ISO (A/L for Win8, again AFAICR). Dornloading the WinX ISOS's right now. I'll get back to you on whether ESD or WIM inside (in about 20 minutes). I'm suspecting ESD but I could be wrong. :unsure. IF ESD, then it would be pointless to download again. Edit - Actually, I'm using this link because I'm doing it on an XP installation. It *appears* that they may be the same ISO's? https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO Edit2 - 32-Bit has a WIM. Will report back on 64-bit, but since 32-bit is WIM, then *probably*... 1hr45min to download (it's bigger, naturally). Edit3 - Confirmed. 64-Bit also a WIM. HTH and happy (re-) downloading. (Last note - I should also mention I haven't tried them yet as I need to back up my Win7 installation first.)

We're all idiots and have no clue how use the Services.msc. Administrator Tools->Services (or Computer Management). WTH is wrong with you? He doesn't want to DISABLE something he did NOT choose to install. He wants to OBLITERATE it! Period. I say again, We are freakin' GEEKS to the MAX. Truth is, I'm running on Server2003 ATM, with extra boot options for XP Pro and Win98SE, in addition to multiple Virtual PC installations (for testing and assistnace on MSFN) and I *like* to manipulate MY INSTALLATIONS as I choose, NOT how MS wants me to. I repeat, we are NOT Consumers. Many come here for us to HELP, and YOU, sir, are NOT contributing, just blasting us with your "knowledge". PLEASE stop it and CONTRIBUTE! Thank you. Side note: This PC is my usual one (dual monitors), the one I mentioned in the PageFile thread (dual monitors) is now downloading Win10 ISO's for testing (and will soon be my NEW Server), my I521 already has Win7Pro (it sits on a shelf), TWO D530's with XP Pro, one on a shelf, the other used by my Step-son, etc etc (yeah, I have several more). (sigh...)

Windows XP, 4gb RAM, Pagefile manually set to 672mb, not a hiccup number one. Please, no more Technet. We're perfectly aware of it. Indeed, in some cases it's been proven they're totally wrong or misleading. We are *not* "consumers", we're total geeks with combined knowledge and experience well beyond what a "certain person" can dredge up. Further Nuhi was hired (AFAIK) by MS because he got waaaay too smart. Not appreciating this, nope, not at all...

Can I get *my* Topic *locked*? The discussion was about Win10 being pulled, and it's been found that it has been *reinstated*. I really don't appreciate jmonroe's attitude. It seems that he's intent on proving he's superior. Any moderator willing to do that for me? Thank you.

Microsoft killing classic control panel in Win 10?
submix8c replied to DaveImagery's topic in Windows 10
WinX Fanboi... (Sorry, it *had* to be said.) Almost as if MS sent someone here to promote it. I think I'll play with WinX, then let it sit on its DVD until Win7 is totally out of support (2020). Heck I'm running pre-Vista on this bad boy and perfectly satisfied. -
Windows 10 10240 to 10586 upgrade change reports
submix8c replied to Tripredacus's topic in Windows 10
"A lot of peaople..." * * "Most people..." These are called Consumers that swallow any swill that they have been hornswaggled into partaking in without fully investigating the side effects. One poor sucker on twitter has the sadz over WinX Upgrade and wants to revert back. He was informed that if lucky and hadn't waited too long / deleted his "uninstall" he could back out. Never trust a snake oil salesman. You may be getting snake venom. -

"Monster List" of official and unofficial updates for Win ME
submix8c replied to justacruzr2's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Not that I know of. You've looked here, right? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/95815-important-stickified-pinned-959898-seme-topics/ Here's an "Unofficial SP" that may take you to in right direction - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/61407-service-pack-for-windows-me/ A lot of them are listed. Also check MDGx Website? (His ME files listed in Stickified - scroll down) HTH... -
Hmmm... Your LDID indicates copying them (JUST the INF files) into the "Windows\INF" folder. See - http://www-pc.uni-regensburg.de/systemsw/TECHTOOL/w95/doc/INFDOC.HTM HOWEVER, you've got (e.g.) the following for the remainder - Where's the D-Drive? The CD/DVD-drive? Please note (re: the INF files) that the assocated Files referenced in the INF will still be "wherever the Source Install Files Initially Exist" (assuming the D-Drive). Standard method is to write a BAT file to copy them to HDD *before* Install. This is the OEM method. On-Topic, here's some references. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/141251-windows-95c-osr-25-msbatchinf/ http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/157229-how-to-launch-a-customized-version-of-msbatchinf/ http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/162717-how-do-you-slipstream-drivers-into-a-custom-win98se-install-disc/ ( Note - Above has my Win98SE one attached ) Further "information" - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/149231-trying-to-use-infinst-to-add-drivers-to-win-98-install/page-3 ( You may want to read that whole thread ) Again, you'll need to do an OEM-style Install as a safe bet. Yea, they may get copied, but you're well past Windows "finding" them during Install. IOW, you've *already* booted to Desktop, which is TOO LATE for Auto-Finding them (AFAICT). Win9x MSBATCH.INF is more-or-less consistent between release. HTH...

OR... ESD stands for "Extra Sqeezed Data". How much bandwidth can you afford? Enough to download a large file (not ESD) or a smaller file (ESD)? Now, one might wonder why they introduced it? The must be amirite? Just to inform you (not necessarily O/T) of why... http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174817-windows10rtm-vs-novupdate-that-you-wont-get/ And follow a couple of links (the ones telling ESD-to-WIM-or-ISO) that show how much *larger* they would be. Are we done with this debate now?
-
Well... Could you rename a "copy* of it as "msbatch.txt" (so it'll upload) and attach it? Or else edit your post and use a CodeBox instead as it's one...long...string right now. Just copy/past contents into the following: (open-bracket)code(close-bracket)Code Text(open-bracket)/code(close-bracket)Nobody will really want to fix what you have to make it readable. Sorry.
