  1. Thanks, Microsoft! According to this, you'll get the RTM ISO and then have to download another 3gb to get the November Update. Why? Is it boogered? Yeah, we all just LOVE downloading TWICE! SMDH... http://www.computerworld.com/article/3007406/windows-pcs/microsoft-yanks-windows-10-november-upgrade-from-download-site.html
  2. Option #1 updates the OS, not the USB Drivers. As Chyld said, there's a file within a folder that you run separately -or- install NUSB instead. Either read the HELP file -or- look at the Image he posted in Post#26. Seriously, it's right there in balck-and-white. *IN EITHER INSTALL CASE* (Stack or NUSB) you *must* Uninstall all other items listed in the HELP or IMAGE posted. HTH edit - And he posted before I could finish. He's right. Follow Instructions (I made it *very* clear). They're there for anyone to see. Download/save that Image -or- open in a new window and read it -or- the Help file. PLEASE!!!!
  3. Touche, Monsieur Pussycat!
  4. PLEASE READ FORUM RULES. (Rule 11) ALSO RULE 12. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=boardrules Thank you. (Now my eyes hurt...)
  5. Dance through this one yet? Read it carefully. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/154025-connecting-a-windows-98-and-windows-7-through-a-network/ I also note you're doing it "though VMWARE". How, exactly? Please describe your exact setup *if* the above link doesn't help.
  6. Uhhh... I thought it was pretty clear. Now Why in the world would MSchange to ESD vs WIM? Hmmmm... To make downloads smaller? Dude! Get a grip on logically thinking! There's no "encryption", just a DIFFERENT compression, like ZIP vs RAR. Come - ON! P.S - WIM's are "also" compressed, or didn't you notice?
  7. re: XP - That would be Java (Sun lawsuit). Added in SP1, removed in SP1a. You could alwasy add it back in with a "package" but it was pointless since MS-Java was buggier than Sun-Java. Now, back to On-Topic?
  8. Try Google. esd vs wimIt's not a "fomat" it's a compression method. WIM's are also compressed, BTW.
  9. AFAIK, *all* Released XP's were made the same way (#1/#2) unless they were SlipStreamed. Is there a tool that would indicate Level1-vs-Level2? My CD's are originals (as are my backup ISO's). IsoBuster only indicates ISO-9660. I will *assume that they're Level-2 and ASCII. (yes, all original made with associated CDIMAGE). And since XP only upgraded from 98+ I'll also assume that Level1 wasn't used. At all, ever. As for points #3 and #4, as you said...
  10. Doubt it. 1 - Win7 doesn't have an Embedded Key, so you *must* Upgrade first. 2 - Im *assuming* that since the Win8 key is Embedded (and unique to *your* PC), it "picks it up" during install and figures that you're already qualified. In either case, you *must* prove you have a Valid Updatable OS, and the BIOS of a Win8 PC "proves it". At least, that's my theory, and I'm sticking to it.
  11. WTH, guys? I'm running a non-Win7/8.x PC ATM. Using the link Trip gives (and I've given it before) allows for downloading WITHIN 24 HRS (it appends an apparently time-sensitive suffix) to file Windows10_1511_SingleLanguage_English_x32.iso (2.3gb) -or- x64 (3.7gb). The link is *specifically* for downloading the ISO on a non-Win7/win8x PC. (note-There's also the ISO not "SingleLanguage") This build is *apparently* "10586.3" - an Update. http://www.ghacks.net/2015/11/13/fix-new-windows-10-update-1511-not-showing-up/ One of those "lump updates together" things, I guess. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3105211 November Build 10586 - https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/7641/microsoft-has-released-a-new-build-of-windows-10-10586 A Q/Comments about it? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174791-what-differ-10586-from-10240-really/ http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174731-looks-like-10586-is-going-to-be-the-next-rtm/ http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174790-windows-10-10240-to-10586-upgrade-change-reports/ Build 10240 - the *first* "RTM" (as everybody knows about) - http://www.computerworld.com/article/2948999/microsoft-windows/windows-10-final-download-now-before-release-date-rtm-build-10240-itbwcw.html What's this "Insider" stuff about? Why? http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/11/windows-10-november-update-features-fixes-and-enterprise-readiness/ Sorry, I don't get it? And PLANNED on getting the ISO to update my Win7Pro (for giggles, at least). Is this more complex than I've found out about so far? Edit - Has anybody tried this in Windows XP (or even the XP Mode) in VirtualPC? Seriously, its a DIRECT ISO IMAGE, *not* created with Media Creation Tool. Edit#2 - Perhaps the above provided via Pre-Win7 OS is the Home version?
  12. Yeah... bear in mind he *moved* the (original) HDD to a different ("current") MoBo (from "another") and "reinstalled" using the Gateway Recovery to install on the "current" MoBo. The OP's clarity is lacking, apparently due to non-technical understanding. U3 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U3 Launchpad Removal - https://builtvisible.com/how-to-remove-the-sandisk-u3-launchpad/ "Generic" complaints about it - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/243608-32-remove-smart-software-sandisk-flash-drive Google - Sandisk U3 ...and you get all kinds of "WTF???" hits. GOOD GOD! Look at the price for a lousy 4gb from Amazon! http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Cruzer-Micro-Flash-SDCZ6-4096-E11/dp/B000EWHEM6 I bought a 4gb Sandisk Cruzer (non-U3) at HomeDepot for $10 and an 8gb Kingston at KROGER for $9. U3, IMHO are pure nightmares and not worth it. And a USB2-speed (NORMAL) stick should run at USB1.1-speed in a USB1.1 slot.
  13. Kind of looks like the (at least a couple of) SP3 USB Drivers are already there? It *appears* that they're installed with Option#1? I don't see "USBSTACK" actually executed. It "seems" to be an "expanded" version of NUSB? Edit - You have (AFAICT) USB1.1, whereas he has USB1.1 also USB2.0. You - Intel 82371 (older chipset) Him - Intel 82801 (newer chipset) + an NEC AddIn Card(?) Edit2 - Did you, by chance, FORMAT it in XP? Edit3 - OUCH! A "Sandisk Cruzer U3". A Micro? It would help if we knew the *exact* model. Seams those and Win98 don't play well. I *assume* you "cleaned" it and did *not* format it under XP? This tells the ugly story (witsh specific instrustions) and ha a link *back* to here for NUSB, so... http://www.techimo.com/forum/pc-hardware/176694-sandisk-micro-cruzer-usb-not-recognized-win98.html Might I suggest purchasing something other than a U3? Also, here's a link (within this link) by jaclaz that tells another horrific story. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174777-usb-experiment-with-rtm-xp/#entry1111929
  14. Electronic Software Download. Actually compresses smaller. ntLite (among other methods) will convert ESD<->WIM. https://www.ntlite.com/esd-conversion-feature-and-iso-information/ http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-convert-install-esd-to-iso-file/
  15. So "hammering" it -kind of- cleaned it. For the record, the Slot Contacts could get gommed and I use *very fine* sandpaper (as in 1000-grit or above, folded) in them (carefully so as not to screw up the position of each one) and blow the heck out of them. As for the RAM, I use autobody repair scuff pads. You can get them at any autobody supply shop - use the grey ones (red/purple may be to too rough). Again, been there, done that. Using "cleaners" don't necessarily (always) "clean" the contacts (formula has been "modified" because of pollution concerns). That's why I *literally* clean the residue off using this method. Thx, jaclaz, for noticing I didn't notice. But as you can see from above rambling paragraph... re: The "formula" - Try cleaning anything with enamel reducer vs. lacquer thinner - BIG difference in cleaning power *and* evaporation.
  16. Aaaand... But does it show the USB Device further down? The INF Update has (specifically) a USB INF inside it for the "PIIX4" (yours). "USB Controller/Hub/(etc.). What you gave (Report) was for the PHYSICAL device (Everest found it). If you look in the Execution under "Windows Devices" you *should* see it. If you don't, the DRIVER IS NOT INSTALLED or IMPROPERLY INSTALLED or FLAT WRONG ONE! As for the post by PROBLEMCHYLD, absolutely correct! WTH are you using the Stick's "driver" for(*never* heard of one being supplied with a USB Stick)? As per his post, THOSE will be the last/latest-greatest Drivers. NOTE that an INF is what *INSTALLS* a Driver. If it isn't "Something.inf" in a Package, it's more than likely a "DriverFile.xxx". You're misunderstanding Drivers and the method of Install. ALSO do *not* Mix-And-Match Unofficial ones (as specified above). Just... DO IT (what CHYLD said).
  17. *Slightly* OT - Bad (dirty) contacts will cause errant errors. I'd suggest cleaning/reseating them. Just a slight jar will cause that.
  18. ESD's instead of WIM's. I got them in an attempt to salvage a non-functiona; Acer Laptop that started in life as an 8.0 upgraded to 8.1. This I know because I hooked the SATA to another PC (Win7) and inspected it (GPT and all). Hard-Activated to BIOS (I assume) since a Unique Key. Sadly, the Laptop refuses to more that blink the "power on" light. No Vid, etc (dead). Currently disassembled. P.S. - Yes, it sold with Windows8. Only. Be sure to get the RIGHT one for your PC.
  19. MDGx Website is whence many "Unofficial" files were derived. Same place Ucrypt came from, I believe. And why June when I gave you December link? Additionally, you just *added* this one (not previosly mentioned) - Q329128 Didn't notice that? (IOW, irrelevant. Get latest Netmeeting) (Side note: Since several of us were directly involved with AP98SE, I have nearly (if not all) all of them archived.) There's NO POINT in gathering every single one when another may supercede it, thus making having a certain one a moot point (will be overlayed anyway). Ref: http://xdot.tk to understand that (see change log). Heed the above posters' warnings.
  20. Dangerous grounds, there, radish. We're fully aware of MDL. If the OP has obtained files from other than their own install, we can't help here AT ALL! http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/w-series/w540/ Tech Specs - OS - Windows 8.1 Pro 64, Windows 8.1 64, Windows 7 Professional 64 One wonders what originally came on it? Sounds like Win8, since it seems to be "locked in"? OP may look into a Lenovo Downgrade from... Lenovo. Side note - searching on the Error Code shows some interesting results.
  21. Dunno what's going on with that. What version of FF are you using on your Win7x64 OS? I have v12 on XP/2K3 and don't get that. Do you by chance have a Plugin/AddOn working its butt off?
  22. You *really* should install the Intel INF (Chipset) Drivers. I'm betting therein lies the problem. From your Report: Mother board- Intel Mount Prospect MP440BX Chipset- -North Bridge: Intel 82443BX -South Bridge: Intel 82371EB PIIX4E USB - Intel 82371AB/EB PIIX4 - USB Host Controller Here's your Wiki reference- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets#Pentium_II.2FIII_chipsets Try this one - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/4241/INF-Update-Utility-Primarily-for-Intel-400-Series-Chipsets This is the Main Download link (for all Chipsets) - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/1145/Intel-Chipset-Software-Installation-Utility Note - maybe the 800 Series? Be ware it says *PRIMARILY* for. Aaaand Hope this helps...
  23. OY! Thanks! Flashget - turn off "PASV" under Options->Proxy-Edit. It still goes Up/Down (same problem as when using -X- UDC script using "WGET") occasionally. @bphlpt - "dir" worked for me, FWIW. Case closed (kind of). One day... ONE DAY... they'll clobber it just like the older HTTP links.
  24. Well, this is unbelievable! All those poor suckers using -X- Windows XP script to get a certain file from the Microsoft FTP site haven't been able to access it. Why? It seems tha you have to use a different method. Read this - thoroughly. http://www.vintage-computer.com/vcforum/showthread.php?49242-R-I-P-ftp-microsoft-com-%281993-2015%29 Yes, it works. Cumbersome as it may seem, it works. And forget the Web Archive. a "Robots.txt" is in the Root. Anyone got a humongous server to mirror it on?
  25. Nope, you blew it. nLite is for XP. vLite is for Vista/Win7. However, read what it says in bold.Start over again. And use the method following the above quote. -OR- try ntLite (the NEWER version) noting I haven't yet tried it. -OR- try WinToolKit - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174719-win7-available-unattended-programs/#entry1111188
