  1. You do not need to remove this post. It was just a hint if you have further issues with 360Chrome or other Chrome forks. The discussion here was mainly about web compatibility in terms of two websites, mediamarkt.de and saturn.de which were tested in 360Chrome and Kafan browser, too, just for comparison purpose.

  3. Hello @WSC4! Issues related to 360Chrome and other Chrome forks should be posted in their corresponding threads. We have a lot of them. FYI, this thread is actually about @roytam1's browser editions.

  4. When I create a new post containing own images, I always upload them to an image hoster before. I think a post should also be able to be understood by readers in the future. Especially, if one, as for example me, has created articles with information which should be preserved for as long as possible. And I personally am not too lazy to insert the golden rule:

  5. Hello! Many of the newer motherboards come (ore came) with an Intel I219-V GbE LAN on it (alt least until they were replaced with the newest 2,5+ GbE chips). Having had achieved a nice XP installation on my "new" GA-Z170-D3H and a Win7 install beside - with the properly working "(2) i219-V" LAN device there - i started searching the web for infos related to the I219 and XP. First stumbled across this site - point 7 - where Embedded-drivers for the i217-V were listed. [The link (on upload.ee) has expired however, i've got this pack and could upload it here... but not necessary, see below] Togeher with a promising hint: "If exactly your network card is not in the driver (e1d5132.inf) explicitly, it must be added by replacing the DEV_ID of the neighboring, close in name. " Quite optimistic with that, i isolated the Pro1000 driver files and modded it for my '(2) i219-V' / 8086_15B8 (same identifier as in Win7), started the driver-installation, it kind-of-worked, but it ended up with an error: > PCI bus 0, Device 31, Function 6: Code 10 - The device can't be started. Astonishingly enough: Some users have seen exactly this error with the i219-V in Windows 10 too! (https://www.google.de/search?q=i219-V+Windows+code+10) Now, let's take a look at the situation in Windows7 where the i219-V works nicely on the same board: The i217, i218 and i219 Win7-drivers can be easily found on the web (eg. here ). I found out, that in the relevant e1d6232.inf all the devices I217-V, I218-V and the I219-V are treated absolutely identically. And they all share the same 'Registry Settings' section well. So i searched further and found another page (https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=46865&start=20), where user b_w (hello b_w, are you here too??) offers a *modded* driver - for the "Intel Ethernet Connection (2) I218-V". Examinating the e1d5132.inf there, i found it modded (for his 15A1 / (2) i218-V ) the same way as i did it for my 15B8 / (2) i219-V described above. But halt! In the driver folder of that driver.7z there is a modded e1d5132.sys too! The difference - compared to the original e1d5132$.sys - are 2 bytes, at position 0x138 and 0x139. But also with this new, modded e1d5132.sys the driver installation ends with the same error 10. So the .sys driver seems to correspond with the devices in the .inf driverfile?! At this point i had to make a break, for the first... and decided to start this topic. Please note: 1) This Intel i219-V LAN can be found on quasi every second mainboard (or even more) - getting it working in XP would imo mean e big leap for their XP-usability. 2) 1) implies, that newer Mini-ITX HW (with an i219) could be considerbale for an XP-build as in this case no extra PCI-LAN is necessary, Additional links: - The i219-V Product specificaten page i219 product brief: https://cdrdv2.intel.com/v1/dl/getcontent/333229 i219 datasheet: https://cdrdv2.intel.com/v1/dl/getcontent/612523 - The i218-V Product specificaten page Datasheet and Product-brief for the i218

  6. In the last few weeks there has been a lot of concerns about Google's new Web Environment Integrity proposal and its possible effects on web freedom. One particular concern that I don't feel can be addressed is the fact that old versions of Windows (and other unsupported operating systems) are likely to not be certified meaning only "supported" systems will be able to access large amounts of the internet if the proposal is successful. Expect large amounts of sites to use it, including banking websites, paywalled news sites, DRM'd video sites and social networks that could potentially be blocked from being accessed. Since remote attestation will be used and possibly be enforced by TPMs and signed drivers it might be impossible to get say Windows 7 to be certified for a WEI protected site. If you want to be able to continue to browse the web on older operating systems please oppose the proposal for WEI.

  7. Yep, I use Total Commander myself for the same reason: renaming lots of files. It's very handy and I've been using it for years and years. On XP in particular, I also use it to transfer large files from a network storage to another 'cause it gives the speed and detailed info on how much data has been transferred. On modern Windows this is included in the transfer window, but on XP without Total Commander I would only have the simple progress bar filling up from left to right, which offers no info whatsoever.

Here is a link for the old Sandboxie webpage describing Known Conflicts: https://sandboxie-website-archive.github.io/www.sandboxie.com/KnownConflicts.html Kaspersky was indeed listed (among other software), but IDK if this old information is applicable to SBIE 5.40, which Sampei.Nihira mentioned in a December 2020 post.

  11. BeeBEEP uses different methods to find other users on the network. Broadcast address: a broadcast address is a network address at which all devices connected to a multiple-access communications network are enabled to receive datagrams. A message sent to a broadcast address may be received by all network-attached hosts. BeeBEEP BeeBEEP uses the broadcast addresses provided by your network interfaces and its default port 36475 to send and receive datagrams. Multicast address: a multicast address is a logical identifier for a group of hosts in a computer network that are available to process datagrams or frames intended to be multicast for a designated network service. BeeBEEP uses its default multicast address 239.255.64.75 and port 36475 to send and receive datagrams. If your router is correctly configured to forward traffic to the multicast address and port 36475, BeeBEEP will also be able to find those users not present in your subnet. Direct connection: this option is used when a user is manually added by specifying his IP address and the connection port. It is practically the resource to use when it is not possible to act on the network parameters specified above. Surce: https://www.beebeep.net/help

  16. I technically don't define it as "based on" anything. It's more of a hodge-podge conglamerate. Theoretically, yeah, I suppose it "started" with Fx52. But... St52 can do nullish coalescing operator, something Firefox couldn't do until v72 - https://caniuse.com/?search=nullish St52 can do optional chaining, something Firefox couldn't do until v74 - https://caniuse.com/?search=chaining St52 partially supports BigInt, something Firefox couldn't do until v68 - https://caniuse.com/?search=bigint The list is kind of endless. BUT there are also things that Firefox can do that St52 cannot do. And even more things that a Chrome-based can do that a Firefox-based cannot do. And vice versa, of course.

  17. @NotHereToPlayGames Sure, it's never all linear. Things vary by hardware, different forks of browsers (and software in general) using different APIs for the same thing, one API being faster/slower under different circumstances. One thing improves, another regresses etc. Software gets more complex with time, humans make mistakes, there's never enough time to make everything perfect. And the hardware is cheap while human labor is not.

  19. Because those browsers and the OS they were developed for, they all matched perfectly. Modern Chrome was never meant to run on XP and shitload of compromises are made for them to run on it. That's what all these backports really are, a bunch of compromises, inefficiencies and half-baked or non-working features.

  23. And what a nightmare IMDB is when you allow advertisements! Holy Crap, I was having flashbacks of the days when you opened a web page and 5 pop-ups and 20 pop-unders hit the screen!

  24. I have non-uBO ad-blocks and IMDB loads within 4 seconds when they're enabled. The only way for me to perform a true apples-to-apples comparison for Kafan is to compare out-of-the-box Kafan with out-of-the-box 360Chrome. No extensions (except Page Load Timer) that would tilt either one in their favor. Wouldn't have been "fair" for me to report that IMDB took 40 seconds in Kafan but only 4 seconds in my non-uBO ad-block'd 360Chrome. I also "refuse" to run any browser other than the ones that I personally tweak on my host OS. So the above comparison is Kafan and 360Chrome ran within a 2MB RAM XP VM.

  25. It all depends on the place where you live and your ISP speed, for me it's instant, which is no wonder, since Holland has one of the fastest ISP providers, I'm sure the same is for @Dave-H. Try to test with uBlock ON!

  31. No, I meant the below fixes need to be applied in the registry if you want to change from AHCI to IDE. I should've been more specific, sorry. I was under the impression you would understand: Change to AHCI mode from IDE mode: You can use the MS Fix it tool or edit the registry yourself. Link to tool here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976/ Regedit: 1. Exit all Windows-based programs. 2. Press [Win] + R or take the RUN option from the start menu. 3. Now type Regedit there and press Enter Key to open up the Registry Editor Window. (If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.) 4. Locate and then click the following registry sub key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci 5. In the right pane right-click Start in the Name column and then click Modify. 6. In the Value data box, type 0 [3 is default], and then click OK. 7. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor. 8. Restart your computer 9. Go to UEFI/BIOS and enable AHCI, Save & Reboot 10. Another restart will be required to finish the driver installation. Change to ACHI mode from RAID mode: 1. Exit all Windows-based programs. 2. Press [Win] + R or take the RUN option from the start menu. 3. Now type regedit there and press Enter Key to open up the Registry Editor Window. 4. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue. 5. Locate and then click the following registry subkeys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\pciide HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStorV HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStor HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi 6. In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify. 7. In the Value data box, type 0 [3 is default], and then click OK. 8. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor. 9. Restart your computer 10. Go to UEFI/BIOS and enable AHCI, Save & Reboot 11. Another restart will be required to finish the driver installation. Note: You might not have the last registry key (iastor) as this is installed in the registry with the intel raid drivers, the default windows 7 raid driver uses the iastorV key. Change to RAID mode from AHCI mode or IDE mode: 1. Exit all Windows-based programs. 2. Press [Win] + R or take the RUN option from the start menu. 3. Now type regedit there and press Enter Key to open up the Registry Editor Window. 4. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue. 5. 32. Hello @D.Draker! It's not really a torture to use my old computer. Yes, this machine is slow and low on system resources, but very stable and reliable. A computer that has grown older with me and has never let me down despite unbelievable disasters. It would be difficult for me to send it to retirement. Every screw, modification or repair was done by me personally. I know this machine inside out. Now do you understand what the problem is? And, of course, your machine you descibed above is time-period correct for running Windows XP!

  33. A PC made in, let's say, 2006-07 would also be a valid/legit/correct for XP, no ? I still have a Siemens PC made in Feb. 2007 and it has a sticker with XP serial number on it . It was sold like that with XP factory pre-installed. It has Nvidia 8800 GTS card , 4GB DDR2 RAM , G31 board with a Q6600 CPU and 500GB HDD, all original. Was an expensive son of a gun, lol . 2000 Euro or even more , I don't remember exactly now. So if I was an XP fan, I wouldn't torture myself with that Pentium, but that's just me , and again , it's none of my business. I understand it could have a nostalgic value.

  34. Description of of a time-period correct computer running Windows XP owned by an infamous Frisian (I also have others but not running Windows XP). My Windows XP computer is equipped with a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz Northwood single core CPU and only 1.5 GB SD-RAM. and can't be upgraded anymore due to the motherbord's layout. No SSD, no SATA but IDE hard disks, and the graphic card is NVIDIA 6200 AGP 4x. A more recent desktop computer will be built by me in the next weeks. At the moment, no time to do that! Anyway, presumably, no hardware for running MiniBrowser without getting more grey hair than I already have! Cheers, AstroSkipper

  36. 1 - Expressing opinion is one thing and there are suitable words for it. Calling one of the respected countries a "3rd world craphole" is an insult. I bet you use an American CPU , not Slovenian ? 2 - "American posters who are discontent with "the way things are in their country". -LOL. And you know this how ? How do you know "the way things are in their country" ? 3 - Google search engine is a commie propaganda machine , so no wonder it would insult America. 4 - School shootings ?!??! What does it have to do the climate topic ? We are talking about countries and their role in the polution ... I once saw a russian "history" book for foreigners *from 60 years ago* and they promised *since the dawn of ages* "America will be dead soon" , lol. Yet it stands. 5 - One's got to learn not to trust the TV. Doesn't look like Slovenia is doing good, judging by what you write how you live (don't own an AC , driving a car from 1991 and so on). 6 - Yep, and I do everything I can to defend it - fighting the orcs in Ukraine, I'm gonna go there for the second tour. And by saying sh*t about America you're helping them , not us. So which side are you on ? P.S. I personally think you're a good member, but not when you insult us.
    1 point
  37. Well, looks like you liked it, hence the reaction. I just want to ask you , why many of you don't talk about any other countries as the main source of pollution ? Always US this , US that , US overconsumes and soon . Why no talk about China ? Russia ? India ? Vietnam ? Only the "US is the 3rd world craphole in your book" (like you previusly wrote, which insults me , and I don't know whether it insults the other US members, but guess it should!), and the US must be blamed for everything, inluding the climate , in your point of view ? So the image is for the enemies who are given the choice to leave and/or never visit the West/US so they won't be able to undermine our western countries from the within.

  42. 1 - For that feeling one would need to live a capitalist country, for starters . I'm sorry , but you don't ... or maybe you have a great imagination. 2 - You're right ! There's a saying I brought from Ukraine, I don't know if it's a British or Ukrainian one originally: "pigs always find dirt". 3 - Excellent idea , thank you ! That's precisely what I'm gonna do today. P.S. Not meant to offend the real (animal) pigs . BTW , I live on a "green" side myself . Not that I receive money from the KGB to destroy the West , lol. I mean I walk a lot , don't use gasoline , don't buy oil or any goods from Russia , don't buy drinks in plastic bottles (only glass), I don't mine or use Pentium D , xD !!!

  43. Where do you see any signs of capitalism in the World ? It's gone. The Pentagon is hiring a new Director for Diversity Equity and Inclusion. Apply within the next two weeks. Salary range $163,333-$203,700 per year. https://usajobs.gov/job/657467500 "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion". Plain old communism in a new pink cover, in normal words. That instead of showing *them* who's the *boss* . And then you all wonder about the gas prices. You'll pay as much as that dictator of the well known insane tribe (that sits their arse on oil) wants you to pay since *it seems* there's no one to perform a "special operation" to show *them* their place. So your choices are pretty limited . On the other hand, you could join the Western Europe in their attempt to use electric cars , but I honestly don't beleive it's happening soon . The oil lobby is still too strong . On the other hand, there are some countries already , that have plenty of electric cars and charging stations, like Denmark and Holland. Kinda start to like the "special operation" crap term, lol. Very convenient not to use real terms ...

  45. It's always easier to tax your own peasants than to deal with the real source of evil. So why not ? Not seeing anyone protesting . Goes like this . Tighten the screws , wait for the new generation to adjust to the worsened conditions while polluting their brain with propaganda , tighten the screws again and so on ... and so on. It's also easier to import cheap labour from undeveloped countries who'd enjoy anything . Pretty sure 99% would agree to work for 100 Euro in contrast to a slow death in gulags. And we need to eat propaganda about "tolerance" and whatnot.

Not to mention russian fleet in 240km of Ireland's shores , right above the data/internet cables for war "exercices". Why no one says anything about the catastrophic impact on the climate ? All of that efforts that @Mr.Scienceman2000and @Gansangriff were doing all these years (using old phones , saving the planet) are in vain. Anyone ? Silence ? And what about the poor animals killed ? Poor Irish fish ? No protests against near russian embassies ! Where is Greanpeace ?!?!? That's what I thought... Ever wondered why the "greens"(reds) only oppose UK/US and not Chino-Russia ?
