  7. I completely avoided this method and I was able to successfuly port the bleeding edge Opera 97 (Chrome 111) and I have no delays with the startup you wrote about earlier. Screenshots with proof below. Opera was released on 06.02.2023 (yesterday) . It is fully functional, apart from the settings page (I get the error on the screenshot when I try to open them). Apart from that isuue I have the ability to enter the flags section, about, history and bookmarks. Lets' work together to find the cause for the settings. I was able to discover the reason for that weird slowness you wrote about. In short, the chrome devs are mor0ns (surprise...not). They have implemented a new crappy API that doesn't work as expected. I found it . Am I a genius, I dunno ... Link : Microsoft confirms that API is crap. "Thank you for your feedback. We have identified this issue as a Windows issue." https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/t/prefetchvirtualmemory-does-not-seem-to-preload-fil/1345958

  9. @Mathwiz wrote about the differences for New Moon and K-Meleon: As for which browser is the best, well, test each browser, and see which one is the best for you. It depends how you use them. Mypal's difference is that 28.xx.x and 29.xx.x branch have a user interface from old version of Firefox, while the 68.xx.x branch is based on Firefox 68.12.0esr. There are two versions of Mypal, the old 28.xx.x and 29.xx.x branch, and the new 68.xx.x branch (which can be found here). I personally use the 68.xx.x branch. Mypal, yes, it's based on Gecko. K-Meleon and New Moon, no, they're both based on Goanna engine. (Correct me if I am wrong for Pale/New Moon, as I personally don't use it) Mypal is available in English (United States), but you can install your own language in it: For the old 28.xx.x and 29.xx.x branch, you can get them from here, For 68.xx.x branch, you can get your language from here, and instructions on how to apply your downloaded language (in xpi file format) to 68.xx.x is here (note: the site is Japanese, but, use a translator to translate the website). K-Meleon is available in the following languages: English (United States), German, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Chinese (China). New Moon is available in English (United States), but you can install your own language, read this post to know how. New Moon and K-Meleon are updated every week by roytam1. Mypal, well, it's on a slower pace by Feodor2. Welcome to MSFN, by the way.

  10. Why did MS wreck their Windows API documentation so badly? The offline copies from VS2008 properly show which OS was first to have a function (usually), but the online documentation says functions from NT 3.1 were introduced in 2000/XP? Why this sabotage?

  11. don't if you take the time to mod and use such an old OS you might as well allocate some time to manually install the drivers this could be an explanation, the cpu just doesn't get the required voltage and craps itself (maybe check the cpu cooler? to see if it's mounted correctly and check if there is thermal paste) it's worth running a stress test if you can - OCCT is a good tool for that and can run on windows vista with ex kernel (haven't tested on a vanilla install so it might work on that too)

  17. @VistaLover I meant he didn't realize that the error prints codecs separated by spaces. I remember another thread for that site on PM forum from few years back, the workaround hasn't really changed since. So my theory when last users give up on UXP browsers: When YouTube stops working. When PH stops working. BTW, still having problems with Nextcloud. The data it sets in cookies eventually causes the browser crash, have to clear all cookies for the site, otherwise it's crash-to-desktop city every time the site is accessed, so not really workable in practice.

  23. How have I never seen this terrifying bungie disaster?? NTB Staff ··Feb 5, 2023 · NottheBee.com I've always wanted to do this, but I think I just changed my mind… Before you freak out too much, the woman in the video did survive. This happened in 2012 in Africa, and like a lot of things on the internet, resurfaced to terrify the heck out of us. Erin Langworthy slowed enough before the cord broke to allow her to survive the plunge into the Zambezi river at Victoria Falls in Zambia. She spent 40 minutes in the water, but in the first few she managed to stay conscious enough to swim out of the rapids. The sound of bubbles was so loud. I felt as if I had been slapped all over. My hands had stopped me hitting the water headfirst and blacking out. My lungs were on fire and I was struggling to breathe. I later found out I'd fallen for four seconds after the rope snapped: a distance of up to 40m. If I had been over land, I'd have been dead. Luckily, it had rained the day before, so the river was turbulent and full. The more than 100 feet of bungie cord still attached to her kept dragging her downriver until she managed to wedge her arm in some rocks. At one point, the cord snagged below me and I was trapped below the surface. As I was running out of air and my vision started to fade, I managed to dive back down, grab the rope and pull it free. Eventually I managed to wedge my arm between two slimy rocks near the side of the river. All I thought about was clinging on. By the time she was rescued and taken to a hospital, more than 6 hours had passed. Other than bruising and a collapse lung, she had no other major injuries. Around 50,000 people jump from that spot every year, so it was pure chance that the rope snapped on me – just wear and tear. They've now introduced measures to ensure it doesn't happen again. Yeah, I think I might still skip the jump and enjoy the view with my feet planted on solid ground! HERE: https://notthebee.com/article/how-have-i-never-seen-this-terrifying-bungie-jump

  27. Yeah, then the amount of JS exploded and we are where we are. That Nextcloud JS is quite banal, I asked on PM forum, basically: class p { bus; constructor(e) { "function" == typeof e.getVersion && l()(e.getVersion()) ? c()(e.getVersion()) !== c()(this.getVersion()) && d.warn("Proxying an event bus of version " + e.getVersion() + " with " + this.getVersion()) : d.warn("Proxying an event bus with an unknown or invalid version"), (this.bus = e); } getVersion() { return "3.0.2"; } subscribe(e, t) { this.bus.subscribe(e, t); } unsubscribe(e, t) { this.bus.unsubscribe(e, t); } emit(e, t) { this.bus.emit(e, t); } } Remove bus outside of constructor because it's already defined in the constructor: class p { constructor(e) { "function" == typeof e.getVersion && l()(e.getVersion()) ? c()(e.getVersion()) !== c()(this.getVersion()) && d.warn("Proxying an event bus of version " + e.getVersion() + " with " + this.getVersion()) : d.warn("Proxying an event bus with an unknown or invalid version"), (this.bus = e); } getVersion() { return "3.0.2"; } subscribe(e, t) { this.bus.subscribe(e, t); } unsubscribe(e, t) { this.bus.unsubscribe(e, t); } emit(e, t) { this.bus.emit(e, t); } } So for this one: class m { handlers = new Map(); getVersion() { return "3.0.2"; } subscribe(e, t) { this.handlers.set(e, (this.handlers.get(e) || []).concat(t)); } unsubscribe(e, t) { this.handlers.set( e, (this.handlers.get(e) || []).filter((e) => e != t) ); } emit(e, t) { (this.handlers.get(e) || []).forEach((e) => { try { e(t); } catch (e) { d.error("could not invoke event listener", e); } }); } } I think you have to do it like so, put handlers definition in a constructor: class m { constructor() { this.handlers = new Map(); } getVersion() { return "3.0.2"; } subscribe(s, e) { this.handlers.set(s, (this.handlers.get(s) || []).concat(e)); } unsubscribe(s, e) { this.handlers.set( s, (this.handlers.get(s) || []).filter((s) => s != e) ); } emit(s, e) { (this.handlers.get(s) || []).forEach((s) => { try { s(e); } catch (s) { d.error("could not invoke event listener", s); } }); } } But sure, Pale Moon is bad since it doesn't follow standards. At least that's what they think. Obviously, in this case, developer really doesn't have it any easier because mainstream Chromium/Firefox allows declaration/definition outside of constructor.

  29. The latest ones should be working with extended kernel. In fact, I got the Visual C++ 2022 compiler/linker working on Vista with an older IDE: Yes, the compiled applications link against the supplied VC++ runtime and the signatures of this runtime like the padding with int 3/CC are evident if you look at the resulting code in a hex editor. I warn people trying to compile for x86 (and especially if TEB/PEB is involved) that there are some optimization issues. None of the optimization switches work to fix that problem.

  31. IDA Pro does not like to assemble things very well, so you will have to go into the hex view to modify the import calls. In x86, the import calls directly reference the memory address of the import table entry as opposed to an offset. So the hex codes for the import call instruction will be (in little-endian notation): FF 15 B8 C0 F3 77 Local function calls remain offset based, so you can just go to edit -> patch program -> assemble and type in "call 77f01762h".
    1 point
  32. You put the memory address of the function in the wrong place (00000040 is near the beginning of the file; not the end where .xdata is located). In IDA Pro you will notice two numbers on the status bar: The one on the left, 0005B840 is the offset memory address and the one that Export Table Tester uses, as well as hex editors. So that is where you want to put the address of the function. And then there are a few other concerns, especially with regards to the export table: if you do not move it to an empty space in the file, such as farther down as .xdata, with lots of expansion room, you may end up running into other code or data.

  34. Here are some more details for usage of osver.ini. You can set settings per-application as above (set Enabled=1 as well), or set them for the entire system by making an entry appended with "[global]". To accommodate every version checking method used by an application, several options are available. Unfortunately I also found that breakage became a significant possibility very quickly, so keep that in mind when using the version spoofers. You can set these values to 1: Win7SuperVerFix Win8SuperVerFix Win10SuperVerFix FirefoxFix (a lighter version of Win7SuperVerFix) You can also set these values: MajorVersion MinorVersion BuildNumber CSDVersion (the service pack string) PlatformId (caution, as the standard value of 2 is used to indicate that the OS is Windows NT. 1 represents 9x and 0 represents Win32s) For example, Firefox installers would need MinorVersion=1. You may have to briefly set it under [global] for installers that copy executables to a temp folder and do the version checks there.

  35. Changes in the latest Vista Extended Kernel release: A new function has been added to user32 in x64. This should help with newer Adobe applications. Two new functions have been added to ntdll. This will allow Windows 7 WordPad to run. That function was contributed by Ximonite. Most of the K32* series of functions have been implemented to kernel32 x86. The SetDefaultDllDirectories bug is now fixed for x86 applications. Run x86 VLC and you will see the difference. GetLogicalProcessorInformationEx is also implemented on x86, without issue. Version spoofing is now implemented. Make a file in your Windows directory named osver.ini. If you have Firefox/Thunderbird 91 or above installed, or Waterfox G4 installed, copy the path of the executable to the file and place it in brackets. Write "Enabled=1" below. Then write "FirefoxFix=1" below. Then run Firefox/Thunderbird/Waterfox. Font rendering also differs slightly with this option set on older versions of those browsers.

  36. About that, the experimental extended kernel version was able to install Office 2019 and almost run it. I've yet to try Office 2013 or 16, as the current version spoofer works for 2019 but not 2013/16 for a few possible reasons. Most of the others are a little iffy, if only because they are first-party software, and it tends to be harder to get newer versions running of those than third-party ones (which is also true of Windows 2000; struggles with parts of Office 2007 while it can run every version of LibreOffice and OpenOffice that XP can). I think a couple of those are x86 native electron apps while iTunes is win7-compatible with a Windows 10-tailored version block (I do have a likely solution for it). So the former will be available when x86 matures (the kernel32 functions are plentiful for those now, but I haven't started on the other dlls) while the latter will be attempted very soon.

  42. Was the message something like "Windows Product Activation can't check the activation status of winlogon.exe" after attempting to logon? I've gotten that after messing around with the OS identifier of NT 5.2 x86 VLK (Server to Professional). Perhaps applying fcwin2k to winlogon.exe would have caused this. I don't think Yandex could affect WPA in any way. if so, you can still access Windows in safe mode, where you can delete all the associations made by fcwin2k. If not, a backup of the registry that dates back to before using fcwin2k should fix it. P.S. this method should also work on Windows Server 2003 (x86 and x64). This program must be one of many that block NT 5.2 (or Server 2003 specifically).

  44. Windows 10 is also very un-customizable compared to XP, which basically blasted the door open on UI skinning. You had many options available if Luna or Windows Classic didn't suit your tastes (even a few direct from MS). Even if you manage to restore some sanity to the look of 10, an update comes along and wrecks your hard work, as well as altering many of your settings, crushing your anti-telemetry safeguards and rearranging the UI like the chairs on the deck of the Titanic.
