Happy New Year @Jody Thornton This has come up before, not sure if it was just you, but: Latest Serpent 52.9.0 build is more up-to-date compared to the official Basilisk build (under a new maintainer now, Basilisk-Dev); last release of Basilisk was on Nov 4th 2022, I sense a new release is imminent... Latest New Moon 28 build is more-up-to-date compared to the last official Pale Moon release (v31.4.2), though a new PM release should be imminent (v32.0.0?) ... appVersion has nothing to do in these cases (and I've explained that in the past, too), it's the actual source code used to build the releases that matters... Roytam1 cherry-picks all feature enhancements from the upstream platform (UXP by MCP) and upstream applications (PM by MCP and Basilisk by Basilisk-Dev) and merges them into his UXP fork - security patches come via the MCP and/or Mozilla repos... A few upstream features/commits are not being adopted, because they are incompatible with the OSes roytam1 targets; others (like the JPEG-X decoder) are not compatible with the compiler (MS VS2015) currently employed to build his releases... As for Serpent 55.0.0(/moebius), there's nothing "upstream" now to compare it to, is there? Roytam1 just tries to keep that "close" to his UXP offerings... @XPerceniol : Please, just stop examining "file versions"; these mean nothing... A certain exe's/dll's "file version" only changes when a full re-compilation takes place from scratch (what's called "clobber"); this is time and energy consuming and it's to be avoided in weekly releases... Only those few files that get changed and rebuilt come with "newer" file versions... The latest St55 (32-bit) build is "basilisk55-win32-git-20221231-7637d8917-xpmod.7z"; update to it, if you haven't already; its buildID should be 20221230020814 (Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Build ID) ... To ALL: Source code repos for Roytam1's browsers are public and accessible on GitHub (links in the "weekly releases" posts); it's all "transparent" there, if you take a minute or two to read committed code and compare it to the upstream repos... That's what I do... Disclaimer: I'm not a coder myself...6 points

Actually, that suite (0x9c) is natively supported by Serpent 52.9.0 and it's controlled by pref: security.ssl3.rsa_aes_128_gcm_sha256 This is set to "false" by default, because, as posted, the suite is "WEAK"; enabling it and restarting the browser: made MEGA downloads initialise and complete successfully! Many thanks @mixit3 points

You are absolutely right. This entry was pre-configured, and I forgot to remove it. I thought my config file was clean. I do have a lot of these config files. Anyway! Good find! After removing it works indeed. So, the problem is really cipher related.3 points

Well, so that you don't feel alone, I also love to look at file versions a lot. Same! Yes, I never leave you alone.2 points

Thank you, I just was a bit taken off guard that VistaLover was so sharp in his response to me, but perhaps having a bad day (we're all entitled to one). I trust him as he knows his stuff about Roytam1's browsers. Thank you for picking up that I was sensitive ... see, you do understand vibes and I'm doing much better now that I went out for a walk.2 points

I hope you don't feel sad about having to stop examining file versions. I know you like to look at file versions a lot, but @VistaLover stands a point about them, too. Be well too, my friend.2 points

Lookie here, I found some widely available literature on what happens when/if someone blocks D.Draker. Names and my short resumes below. The modern ones are too plain, on the other hand - straight to the ponit. "A day without D.Draker - pain with pleasure, or just pain ?" 2016 Intriguing, with a soft touch of mystery. "D.D. haunts me wherever I go, will magic help ?" 1991 Over saturated with dark rituals. So-so. "Will blocking D.Draker bring me satisfaction ?" 2018 This one's a waste of money, in my opinion. Could give you a spoiler - no. "The 101 best pieces of advice on how to kill time between D.Draker's posts." 2020 A good one, recommend.2 points

There is no answer to that! Browser choice has always always ALWAYS been about "personal perference". What works for me, will not work for you. What works for you, will not work for me.2 points

How to install Office 2013 on Vista 1- Have a copy of Office 2013 64-bit handy (The latest extended kernel is needed, x86 is useless) 2- Copy to the desktop in a new folder the root of your copy of Office 2013 3- Copy the ProPlus.WW.en-US folder to the desktop (the name may vary due to the language/edition of the copy), this is important since the Office installer detects the edited files and the installer of this folder needs to be edited. 4- In the folder copied to the desktop open ProPlus.WW.msi with Orca, go to InstallExecuteSequence and remove AbortMsi (it blocks the installation outside of setup.exe that verifies the files), then in Components change all Conditional VersionNT >= 601 by VersionNT >= 600. 5- Replace gdiplus.dll with the one from Windows 7, this is the path in the system: C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft.windows.gdiplus_6595b64144ccf1df_1.0.6002.19749_none_56a723b1b598503f\gdiplus.dll 6- In group policies of the local machine, it prohibits rollback (very important) 7- Create an osver.ini file with the following settings (required at all times when installing Office 2013): [global] MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 8- Open ProPlus.WW.msi and after installation the Office 2013 suite should appear in the start menu, but it is not enough! 9- Go back to group policies and disable rollback, but keep osver.ini 10- In the root folder of Office 2013 the only change we will make is to delete the update or updates folder, they cause bugs when installed 11- Open the setup.exe of the normal Office 2013 installer and customize it to your liking (it should install successfully, if an error appears, reboot the system) 12- Open Word 2013 (it can be any program in the suite except Visio, Lync, InfoPath or Outlook) to configure Office 2013 13- The programs of the Office 2013 suite will need to be detected at all times as Windows 7 or an annoying Windows Installer dialog will appear configuring each time the program starts: [C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\EXCEL.EXE] Enabled=1 Win7SuperVerFix=1 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 [C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\MSACCESS.exe] Enabled=1 Win7SuperVerFix=1 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 [C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\MSPUB.exe] Enabled=1 Win7SuperVerFix=1 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 [C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\ONENOTE.exe] Enabled=1 Win7SuperVerFix=1 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 [C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\OUTLOOK.exe] Enabled=1 Win7SuperVerFix=1 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 [C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\POWERPNT.exe] Enabled=1 Win7SuperVerFix=1 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 [C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\WINWORD.exe] Enabled=1 Win7SuperVerFix=1 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 14- ¡Enjoy Office 2013! SOMEONE BUGS 1- A large part of the office suite worked without problems, but there are programs that have some problem to solve: Outlook: won't start due to missing dependency on advapi32.dll (in future extended kernel updates this may be fixed) Lync: Stop responding... on welcome screen Infopath: Won't even open Visio: When creating a new drawing stops responding 2- It is impossible to activate it (at least there is no time bomb) 3- Can't login (maybe because of TLS) CONCLUSION We have partly killed the obsolescence imposed by M$ in Vista, which only received two versions of Office. Almost the entire suite works perfectly under Vista, except for Lync or InfoPath that I don't find useful, Outlook and the lack of dependencies in advapi32.dll. In the usual programs like Word, Excel or Powerpoint I can do anything without problems as if I were in Windows 7 or 8.2 points

These "Cap" programs are "wrappers" used with programs that don't normally have a provision to use a proxy server. That was my situation; I had a program (OE Classic) that I needed to use a proxy server (just once, to activate the "Pro" license I'd bought) but OE Classic provided no way to do that. (Probably no one ever needed it before me.) As for the "best" of these "Cap" programs, I'll take @AstroSkipper's recommendation of SocksCap64 to heart (despite the name, it does have a 32-bit version). FreeCap had one job: let me activate OE Classic. It did that job, but I'm not wedded to it!2 points

Try setting pref security.ssl3.rsa_aes_128_gcm_sha256 to true. Ciphers are part of NSS, which @roytam1 keeps pretty up-to-date in his Serpent/NM builds, but this pref defaults to false for some reason. I'm not sure why; it doesn't use the less secure SHA1 hash; it doesn't use CBC, which proved problematic; and it doesn't use a weak cipher. Edit: I think I know why it's considered "weak" by SSLLabs: it's not that it's inherently weak; it's that it doesn't provide "forward secrecy." If a determined attacker recorded all your encrypted conversations with mega.nz, and at some point in the future, mega.nz's private key were compromised, the attacker could retroactively decrypt everything you'd sent to or received from them. (Of course the other cipher suffers from the same "weakness," but it's pref defaults to true; go figure.) I like SSLLabs, but I wish they were a bit clearer about what the problem is when they say a cipher is "weak." (Of course, there's only so much room on the results page, so I guess they can be excused for not being as verbose as I'd prefer.) Ignore that the pref contains "ssl3;" I'm pretty sure this cipher suite is only used by TLS 1.2.2 points

Glad to be of service. I should have checked if this was already included before tagging @roytam1 ... In my feeble defense, I don't actually use Serpent - I'm still on self-built pre-drama Centaury (in combination with 360 and occasional VM browsing with the officially "in" browsers) but it turns out it actually has it too, disabled by default. At least it's nice to occasionally have a browser problem we can solve on our own without endlessly waiting for "upstream". I have to say, I almost missed the SSL problem because we've been totally conditioned to always look at the JS console as of late I wonder what's up with Mega and this single-cipher thing, though...2 points

I don't do anything special on these occasions TBH. It passes so fast and I believe we all deserve to be a bit lazy from time to time. And no company IRL to do fun stuff with either. While I don't have any apprehensions about leaving the house, at least not for going for a walk, I do gravitate towards staying home in general. I'm not sure what I'd say to someone who struggles to leave the house, honestly. Did read a lot of other people's venting in the past, some struggle to even leave the bed. Yeah, but I mean, what if you don't feel like participating in this freakshow? Heh, those pills had the warning that they may cause suicidal thoughts, which did cross my mind then. "Deaden", right, that was the word I was looking for. Felt nothing and that was more messed up for me than feeling something. When you think about, pharmacy is just another business. And psychiatrist are in place to put you back on the predetermined track if you wander off to keep this system going. Some say pills helped them, but really, they aren't for me. This quote is fitting: I hear ya. But unless we live off-grid in the woods, we're still bound to it one way or another. Going with the flow indeed, it's the only certain thing for me. Ugh, wanted to add something here, but can't figure out how to put it together. Thanks, not sure about strong, but at least health is holding up...for now. Plus George had charisma. I'll try. Well who knows how things would have turned out then. Just a way of expressing myself, personifying depression to make situation sound less gloomy. It's a "she" in Slovenian.1 point

Well, in cases when there's weak secrecy vs "complete secrecy" in the form of "no connection possible", the former might be handier. As with other ciphers, these could be disabled in about:config settings when not needed, couldn't they?1 point

@AstroSkipper, you wouldn't by any chance have *.mega.co.nz in your [SSL Pass-Thru] section in config.ini, would you? I just downloaded ProxHTTPSProxy 1.5.220717 and it was there in the default .ini file. After removing it, I was able to download from Mega without problems. Edit: Correction, on another try there were "temporary errors", but they really were temporary this time and the download still completed fine.1 point

Great - that helps a lot. I don't know if I've asked before. If I did it was years ago. And reading through so much of this thread is a lot to do when one has other things going on, so I really appreciate the synopsis. I'm surprise Roytam's build of Serpent 52 beats out Basilisk-Dev's November build in terms of being current - wow! I know that Nightlizard seems to have stopped his experimental builds around late October, so this is good to know. I'm using the x86 Serpent on my Dell notebook running Vista Home Basic, so that's a browser I can use alongside myPal 68.1 point

- Moved all edited browsers to the Internet Archive (hope the platform exists forever). - Created simple lanchers for each browser (BATCH) (they have to be put in the same place the executable of the browser is to work). - Created a rebase BATCH script for each browser (only for the main DLLs of the browser like chrome.dll and/or chrome_child.dll). The "rebase" folder has to be on the same place the executable of the browser is and then you can execute the "rebase.bat" file inside that folder). All files can be seen easily here --> https://archive.org/download/360EE_Modified_Version Cheers.1 point

The cipher suite TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 was already implemented in ProxHTTPSProxy 1.5.220717. I tried to connect to Mega using Serpent 55 via ProxHTTPSProxy 1.5.220717, and the download of files didn't work, either. Same issue as without using the proxy. Therefore, I think the problem is presumably not only a cipher incompatibility.1 point
-
Interesting news! ProxHTTPSProxy can only be used by programs which offer an option to use the IE proxy settings as for example browsers or use system components if the proxy has been set system-wide. From now on, we have the possibility to connect any program with a server or the internet via the local proxy ProxHTTPSProxy if necessary, of course including the latest protocol TLS 1.3. The solution is SocksCap64. I have already tested this tool, and it works perfectly with ProxHTTPSProxy. Link: https://www.sockscap64.com/homepage/ Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

Hey @roytam1. Are your Serpent builds on par with the new Basilisk builds or Pale Moon 30x builds? I only ask because I see that your versions of New Mon only report as 28x. I wasn't sure if a different version numbering was in effect or if you just backport security updates. Thanks1 point

Ahhhh ... yes, society what is that? I'm far removed from it but I do get it. Haha .... You are sailing on rough waters and the tide is changing - go with the flow even if feels repetitive but make sure its exciting and fun and go with the current even when the waves are going against you. You sound healthy and strong to me but a bit jaded much like our beloved George Denis Patrick Carlin. Wasn't he great but oh so bitter and very loved. He always said he was a misfit, and honestly nothing wrong so long as not hurting yourself. Never give up and keep sailing though and accept the mindless guidance. EDIT: add more information and fixing mistakes.1 point

Right ... they numb us and rob us of emotions and deaden us. Some might disagree, but pills were only supposed to be *as needed* but became the "fix" and the brain adapts to the med and you just need to change meds or increase and this roller-coaster is bad. Your essence is not the depression which is why you said it "drained" you ... because the depressions is lingering and fooling you (tricking you) into believing you are weak; and you are not. You were right to stop them and that was not a good combination - I am medicated but have been for a while and still I have bad days, but you see, today it not one of them. EDIT: Fixing mistakes.1 point

This is very easy to diagnose, make a clean install on a separate HDD and with the drivers from the 430th range. No artifacts, then the programme is to blame, if artifacts are still there - your card is dead. Windows 7 may still be fine as it doesn't stress out the GPU like it should. I observed different GPU usage between Vista and 7. win 7 tends to load the CPU more than GPU.1 point

Well, the thing is, for all of Moonchild's programming talent, MCP just isn't up to the task of putting into UXP every new Javascript feature that someone (usually Google) thinks up, gets approved, and works into every Web framework they can get their greedy hands on. A deeper "bench" of programmers would help. Too bad MCP spent much of the past few years alienating would-be allies rather than welcoming them into the fold. And while the main cause of that alienation is now gone, it's probably too late now. All that said, UXP is still an impressive browser platform. I'm often surprised how many Web sites do still work with it!1 point

CONTEXT is difficult to convey. Especially in written form on an international forum. I do not recommend using the word "dude" as a "greeting". ie, as the first word in a sentence "directed at" whomever you are speaking to. You most certainly do not approach a law enforcement officer, a college professor, a priest or rabbi, a politician, a ruler of a country, basically any position of respect and authority, and start your sentence off with "dude". Like I say, CONTEXT is difficult to convey. But "dude" as a "greeting" and then followed by "did you even read" does have certain "undertones" that I would suggest most of us do not do when speaking to our own parents in honor and respect. So yeah, the word "dude" can be derogatory in nature, but it can also be an informal greeting to a friend within our peer group. But if I ever meet a foreign dictator, prince, princess, king, queen, president, vice president, et cetera, you can rest assured that the first word I utter will not be "dude".1 point
