Standard 32 bit Chromium works as well, including extensions. But Steam and Discord do not work properly yet. Steam can connect to the Internet again, but the Chromium parts of it don't display anything and logs are not very helpful at this time. They are continuing to add functions to Chromium 111, and I was able to run that with --no-sandbox, but not with sandbox yet.3 points

You mean without the daily senseless bickering on actual technical topics and the meaningless wishful thinking and do-goodism non-technical topics that permeated the board lately? It was once like that, good times ... jaclaz3 points

Interesting piece of malware: Report on VirusTotal This guy ran it under built-in Administrator account. I tried it in a virtual machine in XP under the restricted user account in Users group, it failed to do much, it errored out that it's corrupted. Buggy virus!2 points

@Mov AX, 0xDEAD @RandyOC @Andalu I got it . I remember my crazy tests with the 64 Bit XP on Ryzen cpu. Nothing helps there. BUT: I install the XP64 to my Asrock z370 k6 board. Everything works there. The generic Kai Sata driver allows, to change the whole Setup to another compi. Hm, again Bsod A5 (0x03,..). But now I use my at a lot of places dirty hacked acpi.sys with Fake OS, and voila, I have XP SP2 bit64 on the MSI z690-A Pro DDR4 running Dietmar2 points

It is NOT an intentional change, upstream pushed some changes that removing some PM changes which effectively/finally changed vendor name in resulting binary. a fix that reverts such changes is pushed to tree and will be available with old vendor name in next build.2 points

Haha, I got tricked... I had this doctorwho.tv forbidden in uBlock, so why I didn't see anything posted by ArcticFoxie, so I thought I'd make a little joke of not posting anything like him, with this wink.... now this doctorwho is allowed here, so I can see his post!1 point

Can't pass it, will try again. This one is also compares the spoofed UA with the real one through ClientHints (which I blocked, obviously). My Quad CPU on a crappy 16GB RAM PC is loaded at 38% while "checking". And the RAM usage goes to 3GB with that page opened. Well, its a tough call, actually. https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/disco-is-dealt-death-blow-by-fans-of-the-chicago-white-sox#:~:text=As the 1970s came to an end%2C the, infamous “Disco Demolition” night at Chicago’s Comiskey Park. Although it was in full swing (not to confuse with swing dancing that is still being done, mostly by older folks) when I came into this work in August of 73 I want really aware until maybe 2 & 1/2 and I have vague memories of is being booming and Saturday Night Fever. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday_Night_Fever (the movie) From what I was told, it collapsed pretty quick over 2 years ans was done totally by 1981, but the reason I said downfall the first time was because they were struggling to get new people to learn it as it was not really something you could just get up a bop to - sure, people did, of course, but they got looks of death from those that took lessons and the apparel and attire was too costly for the average folk so since they didn't change they collapsed. When I was able to see Donna Summer in concert in the 90 disco was long over with but she changed the music to more bouncy jazz, but I remember that day and she was ill. Will write more as I lost my train of thought.1 point

Off-topic, but you can actually use Dropbox to share these things (rhetoric question)? I used to share something using it, but after some time, my link errored that the account's public links are generating too much traffic. I wonder if the limits these days are the same than they were few years back. On-topic, is there a changelog for official builds? What's the difference between 1030 and 2022 and why would one be slower than the other, both being Chrome 86?1 point

Same here. I plan to upload on a different forum. IF I provide it here at MSFN, it will be under its own build 1030 thread.1 point

Would be very pathetic from their side, since it‘s their own software. If they read our forums to find their mistakes, they‘re not good developers. Nonetheless, they can feel free to block that hack if they want to. There are many smart brains around here, like @win32 or you, who achieved to backport newer software to older OS1 point

@JFXThanks again for the great project! Have a strange VHD related bug in all versions (including beta 5). When creating VHD with symbols (ex. _ or .) getting following error window (attached). VHD is actually created and seen in the disk manager, but not formatted. Can format it manually and map with a drive letter. VHD without symbols in the name works fine. Please fix.1 point

I'm sorry, you lost me ! Previously you wrote : "I was a child (73) when Disco was starting to downfall", now you say "in 73 so disco was in full swing". So, in 73, was it at its downfall or in full swing ?1 point

It tries to make a unique fingerprint of your browser by using mostly the canvas fingerprint . If you want to see yours, can check here your unique ID. https://browserleaks.com/canvas Ungoogled Chrome has the ability to block it completely or generate a fake one. It can also use GetCPInfo GetOEMCP and some others through your browser with a java script. This is not all it can try to fetch.1 point

I agree. I've actually been using 13.5 build 1030 for the last three days. Still experimenting with rebasing it for my x86 machines. I am undecided as to whether I will upload download links for my newest 13.5 build 1030 here at MSFN.1 point

Yeah, it's that FIRST LAUNCH afer coming out of system hibernate or a full shutdown that concerns me. Always has. Consecutive launches were always fine. Browsers taking 4 to 5 seconds to launch for the FIRST LAUNCH is not that uncommon. In 2020 or so, I dropped down to Mypal 27.9.4 because it had a first-launch of 2.7 seconds compared to 4+ for all of Roytam's builds. The fastest Roytam NM27 was dated 10-27-17 and was equivalent to Official Pale Moon 27.6.2. These both had a first-launch of 2.8 to 2.9 seconds.1 point

'Guys' is definitely one of the many Americanisms that polluted entered British English a long time ago, but until relatively recently was only used for men. Groups of women being called 'guys' (often by women members of the group) is now common though. Personally I consider that to be slang! Anyway, having just hypocritically added to it, back on topic now please!1 point

Damned they be! They plainly reject the UA sent by Serpent 52/55 (the Goanna and/or Basilisk slices) ... Edit: It's the "Goanna/*" UA slice they really object to ... The site loads fine via spoofing a "pure" Firefox UA, e.g. : "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0"1 point

No, they don't care, you just don't remember 2016 when they said exactly the same and dropped Vista immediately ! It's fake news from them, as usual. New Opera 96 does not work on Windows 7/8/8.1 . Don't spread fake news.1 point

It all depends on what you are ready to sacrifice in the end, if you want it without the kernel and have a considerable amount of time at your disposal, then yes, it is possible. Though, I suggest to use the existing kernel and only add my hacks needed for this exact version. It's just faster,@win32 already saved enormous amounts of time for us !1 point

There are four separate directories, not two: New Moon 27's profiles go under "Moonchild\Pale Moon" New Moon 28's profiles go under "Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon" Serpent 52's profiles go under "Moonchild Productions\Basilisk" Serpent 55's profiles go under "Moonchild\Basilisk" As crazy as that sounds, it actually works! In this case credit for discovering the workaround goes not to Moonchild but to kris_88. More info here: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?p=234631#p234631 Does make me wonder, though, why the heck the Goog added performance navigation timing function calls to Google Translate's Javascript! On suspicion that it's yet another sneaky way to fingerprint Web browsers, I'd recommend turning it off even if it didn't break anything! Moonchild said he'd make the default "false" in the next PM release. Anyone needing it (probably just Web developers) can always turn it back on.1 point

tested some previous builds and same issue occurs, I think this is google-side problem. someone may check against official version to see if same problem will occur or not.1 point

The Goog Strikes Again Google Translate is now broken* in Serpent 55 and 52; so probably in all of @roytam1's browsers. Not sure exactly how long ago but I think this is rather recent. And to think we just got named regexp capture groups! Can anyone tell what they broke this time? *Specifically, tranlation of Web sites is broken. And I'd use DeepL but it doesn't translate Web sites (at least not the free version).1 point

Including signing onto Micro$oft 365.com to authorize OEClassic to access my emails! @Sampei.Nihira mentioned having trouble doing that with IE 8, but with Serpent 55 (technically not UXP but pretty close thanks to @roytam1's work) I had no trouble setting up OEClassic to access my 365 account. I agree, and it's actually worse: if it's a long message, the ads aren't necessarily added to the end as a kind of mandatory signature, but instead are inserted a few lines down from the top, interrupting the flow of the text! That's completely unacceptable for anything beyond the most casual correspondence, so paying up is really mandatory. I had to laugh at one of the limitations: The spelling checker checks the first word only! What's the point of that? Might as well have just left the spelling checker disabled in the free version, if it has to be that crippled. That said, it does work, and appears to be the only option for using 365 with Windows XP. For Windows 7 and up, I'd probably stick with Mozilla Thunderbird, which is both free and full-featured. I don't know if that was intentional (and a warning would've been nice so NM 27 users could move their profile folders beforehand), but it's definitely useful if one wants to use both NM 27 and NM 28 on their PC. Otherwise both NMs would try to share the same profile, which is not likely to work out well! Serpent 55 also uses "Moonchild" so those of us with both Serpent 52 and 55 have benefited from separate profiles since the beginning.1 point

@roytam1 The latest NewMoon v27 (2022.12.24) now works as expected. Youtube is now seems to be OK. No strange crashes in general (at least for this short time). But it uses a different profile folder "Moonchild" instead of the "Moonchild Productions", so all bookmarks and extensions were gone - I must reinstalled these. This change is intentional? Common problems observed (not a bug, not specific to this version): - Youtube comments not loaded - Delayload for images (or other objects) not works on some sites - Can not post on MSFN ------ Merry Christmas for everyone!1 point

Yes, they use it improperly. WinHex can do both ways, it can Clone and image drives. Source: "WinHex: A powerful data recovery and forensics tool, by michaeljackman in Microsoft " May 6, 2003, (notice the article is 20 years old) https://www.techrepublic.com/article/winhex-a-powerful-data-recovery-and-forensics-tool/ Scroll to > Clone and image drives. > Recover data.1 point

Yes, you're absolutely right ! That's why I remove the original disk from the system before I boot from the cloned one. I'm pretty sure it was always done like this, no ? He didn't write he wanted them "at the same time". He wrote "I've cloned my system disk ... The new drive won't boot." By his description of the situation, one might assume he removed the old disk. Technically it wouldn't be cloning, especially as if in forensics, like with WinHex. The original question was about cloning.1 point

Solution found, good ! And I was gonna suggest you to rebuild the BCD. Helped me some time ago. Just in case, let it be here. 1. Boot your computer from the Windows system repair disc and then bring up a command prompt as you do in the second method. 2. Then you can type the following commands to rebuild the master boot record (MBR), partition bootsectors, and boot configuration data (BCD) to the startup issue. bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot bootrec /rebuildbcd1 point

This thread is now locked. These types of arguments will never be resolved, and MSFN isn't the place for them, even in this section.1 point

If you hate Windows 7, stay out of Windows 7 threads. When a person asks "how can i fix this" we should never answer with "change the OS" unless it is specifically a software related question. For OP, my recommendation is to get the OS to 4 GB RAM, or if the system supports more than 4 GB RAM physical, get it to above that and use a 64-bit OS. Would like to know what type of operations are being done on the system that make it slow. If you are talking about using websites, then this is a totally different situation. As a daily user of a 32 bit Win 7 (specs are higher than yours but) I can tell you that some websites are just too heavy. For example, Youtube works fine but sites with heavy scripting can lock up or crash the browser. Examples of this are sites that continuously load into RAM such as Facebook, Twitter or say... Yandex image search. In my experience, once a browser's memory usage hits around 800 MB on a system with 3.2 GB RAM (4 GB installed on 32bit OS), things can get very slow or things will stop working. It is this experience that I am even considering of replacing my own Win 7 system.1 point
