This may be of interest. John Haller says: I've been working on ensuring that links to legacy versions of our apps at PortableApps.com are available for a bit. After reading through a bit of the XP compatible software topic and the recent What does your XP looks like in 2022? topic, I thought I'd consolidate it a bit more and formalize it. I created a Windows XP/Vista Compatible App Versions, Adding To The App Directory topic over in the PA.c forums to track it. I've added a new entry in our listings to link to legacy builds for our apps setup in a way that they install alongside the current versions (ex: HexChatPortableLegacyWinXP) and won't be affected by the PA.c Platform's updater. If there's a PA.c Format app that's missing or an app where we released it after XP/Vista were dropped and you'd like a build of it, drop a post in our forum topic or here and I'll add it to the list to get it put together for interested folks. If there's enough interest, I may put together a legacy PA.c Suite and/or add it to our app store. https://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=259413 points

Sorry, but that does not make any sense at all. Moreover, all matter can be explained scientifically. I finished with this subject in my youth, when I did not even know this outstanding man: This is an excerpt of Stephen Hawking's book "Brief Answers to the Big Questions" published by the U.K.'s Sunday Times" from 2018, and I totally agree with his assessment. He had even provided proof for his statement. Source: https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2018/10/15/stephen-hawking-warns-superhumans-ai-posthumous-book/1645963002/ Unfortunately, I will not be able to go into further detail on his statements in terms of god, as this would violate the forum rules. If you read through this entire thread, Humming Owl posted that he will no longer be updating any of these and there's been at least a dozen, if not two dozen, of these types of comments since. None of them have been replied to by Humming Owl. So keep on hoping until you turn blue, but these have been abandoned. The instructions have been provided for somebody else to pick up the torch and carry it. But I'm with Humming Owl on this, there are way too FEW of people that use these browsers for us to spend such a large amount of time on them. I think also that too many folks around here don't really fully understand what me and Humming Owl did with these browsers - we did not recompile the "engine", so that needs done by the original developer which has also (seemingly) abandoned these browsers.2 points

The 3rd condition could be deleted -- I was stupid that a new profile could not suffice the condition 2. And I find a workaround. After checking the Issue #2019 at https://github.com/roytam1/UXP/commit/1392f5f223b960d6332f9230687afcd3e8e5276f , I spot a line I think relative: `+ pref("dom.keyboardevent.keypress.dispatch_non_printable_in_content", false);` about:config do not have that pref, so I manually add `dom.keyboardevent.keypress.dispatch_non_printable_in_content", true;` Then the delete and backspace key function again. p.s. Hope @roytam1 could make a fix according to my finding!2 points

LOL! We used to have two types of 'round pin' plugs when I was a kid, 5A ones for lower rated stuff, and 15A ones for heavy stuff, the latter were really big and heavy! I think the idea behind the present 1960s replacement 'square pin' plugs (the pins aren't actually square of course, but that's what they were called!) was that they were powerful enough but light enough not to need two different types. They were fine for the heavy stuff like electric fires, but not too big and heavy to use for the lighter stuff like table lamps. Whether they got the compromise right is a matter of opinion of course! The other plus point was that we got rid of reversible two pin plugs and sockets, which could be dangerous with the 'live chassis' TVs and radios which were still around at the time! I don't mind the European standard ones, but the American standard 'low current' plugs and sockets always seem really flimsy to me! Anyway, this is completely off-topic!2 points

HOW TO RESTORE WINDOWS UPDATE V5 This message is for all people who want to restore and run the Windows Update v5 site on their computer. This is the 1st guide to restore Windows Update v5. Disclaimer: The v5 site can contain bugs. Please report bugs, so they can be solved by us. Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012 R2 recommended. The IIS and DNS features (roles) are necessary to do this guide. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Download the latest Windows Update v5 files : Download Windows Update v5* 2) Extract the files in a folder on your server. 3) Go into "the folder where you extracted the files > v5consumer > shared > js" and rename the file "redirect.js" to "redirect2.js". 4) Go to your DNS role (Start > Administrative tools > DNS). 5) Create a new zone called "v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com". 6) In this zone, create a Host record (A) and enter ONLY your server's IP address (in the IP field, like that "192.168.1.14" - this is an example). To know your IP v4 address, press Windows + R, then type cmd. When the Command Prompt appears, type ipconfig. Your IP v4 address should appear.). 7) Close the DNS, then go to IIS. Create a new website (in the left sidebar, expand "your server name", then right-click on Sites and then click on "New website".). 8) In the field "Site name", type v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com. In the Path field, click on Browse, and then browse to the folder where you extracted Windows Update v5 (this folder should contain the folder "v5consumer" - DO NOT SELECT V5CONSUMER. In the Binding group, use the default settings. In the Host name field, type v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com. 9) Do not forget to install the IIS url2rewrite module - Download the module (english) (overrender.com is my website, and this file hasn't been modified, it's the original one from Microsoft). WARNING! x64 INSTALLER! IF ENGLISH IS NOT YOUR IIS SERVER LANGUAGE, SCROLL DOWN TO THE ADDONS SECTION OF THIS POST. 10) Go to your client (Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows 2000). Go to the DNS settings, then enter the IP of your server in the Prefered DNS field. Click OK. 11) Check if you can access the Windows Update v5 website. Open Internet Explorer (Internet Explorer 6 recommended), and type v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com. If you can access the site, continue to Step 12. Else send me a Private Message. 12) Download ProxHTTPSProxy Mii v1.3a - Download the file 13) Extract the file on your host computer (only if you're using a virtual machine. If you're using a real computer, extract it on your server). 14) Go into the extracted folder, and double-click on "ProxHTTPSProxy.exe". This will create a file called "CA.crt". 15) Double click on "CA.crt", then (in the window) click "Install certificate" In the wizard, click Next. Click on "Place all certificates in the following store", then click "Browse...". Check the Checkbox, then go at the top of the list, then expand "Trusted root certificate authority" and click on "Local computer". Click OK, then click Next, and close the window. If the certificate was imported successfully, you will get a message box saying "The importation was successfull" or something like that. 16) Go to the ProxHTTPSProxy folder, then open the Launcher.exe file. It will open in the System Tray. 17) Open Internet Explorer, then go to the Tools menu, then click on Internet Options. Go to the Connections tab, and click "Lan settings." Check "Use a proxy server for your LAN". Click on advanced and, in the HTTPS field, type the IP Address or the computer where ProxHTTPSProxy is running. In the Port field, type 8079. 18) Click OK, then click OK. In the "Advanced" tab, scroll down and find the Checkbox "Use HTTP 1.1 with Proxy connection". Check it, then click OK to close the Internet Options. If this was done successfully, download the "Restore_WU_XP.zip" file - Download the file 19) Extract it in a folder onto your client (ONLY THE CLIENT). Then run "Install.cmd". When a prompt "Windows File Protection" appears, click CANCEL (this is VERY important). 20) Restart your client. 21) Open Launcher.exe (in the ProxHTTPSProxy folder). 22) Open Internet Explorer, then type http://fe2.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?g_sconsumersite and try Windows Update v6. 23) If you can check for updates without problems, type http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com and the v5 site should work. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ADD-ONS This section is for add-ons (multilanguage files, etc...) IIS Rewrite Module (Official Microsoft Site) : Go to the IIS website --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This guide is not definitive and might be updated in the future. So, stay up-to-date! If you have any question or problem, send me a Private Message or ask @maile3241, @WinFX or @ByQuadCore. If your problem is happening to many other people, I'll post a solution. All files except the Windows Update v5 files are hosted by OverRender.com. Report a missing file or a problem with them to me. This site has been restored with the great help & work of @maile3241, @WinFX, @ByQuadCore and me. - WULover1 point

You're right! That comes out against my will with this constant Americanisation we are all subjected to. I call that subtle influence. Fortunately, the British and German date formats match. Therefore, I would not have to make a decision. The only remaining obstacle would be the effort required to change all the posts concerned.1 point

British, of course ! Brits conqured the world, there's nothing else to add. Not to mention it's convenient. The only thing I don't 100% like is their wall plugs. Too brutal, too big. I mean, don't get me wrong, there's definitely something good about them (the electric wall plugs), manly, mature. Just a bit too much.1 point

DCB_4.0.7.22_Modified.7z - I've extracted (use WinRar v3.9.1.1) to My Documents folder of course - and it works immediately, never bluescreens, or uninspected craches. It's a pity that all our Chrome forks (DCBrowser, 360Chrome...) don't have never versions, so are abandonware for now... But I still have hope, that @Humming Owl will take over the task with DCBrowser, which I consider the nicest (Dark Mode...) from all these...that it will remove this new tab with its never used (here) shortcuts, which only make the browser launch longer and its weight bigger. Thank you, that's all.1 point

Hello @Cixert! A very good tool for defragmenting the registry files and the pagefile is PageDefrag 2.32 from Sysinternals. It solved in several cases starting problems that I had in the past. Another approach is an examination of the integrity of your hard disks with tools from outside. As you wrote in the first post, two different computer are concerned. If so, maybe both are infected by the same malware, or you have installed a program on both computers causing this corruption. In any case, a very deep investigation is necessary if the simple solutions don't work. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

Meet the Shoebill Stork, an Enormous Bird That Looks Like a Muppet By Jessica Stewart on August 9, 2022 Looking like a mix between a dinosaur and a Jim Henson puppet, the shoebill stork (Balaeniceps rex) is a sight to behold. The large African bird gets its name from its distinct beak, which looks like a shoe. Sometimes called a whale-headed stork, these birds actually aren't storks at all, but are more closely related to pelicans and herons. These solitary birds are not only fascinating for their prehistoric look but also for their behavior. Table of Contents 1 Habitat and Size 2 Diet and Conservation 3 Frequently Asked Questions 3.1 How big are shoebills? 3.2 Can a shoebill fly? 3.3 Where can I see a shoebill stork? 3.4 Are shoebill storks endangered? 3.5 Are shoebills friendly? 3.6 How long do shoebills live? 4 Learn More About the Shoebill Stork The shoebill's natural habitat is the swamps of eastern Africa. Their thin legs with large feet give them the ability to wade through the vegetation of swamps and marshes from Ethiopia to Zambia. Thanks to their stature, they truly are kings of their environment. They can reach up to five-feet high with an eight-foot wingspan, making them fairly intimidating. Just their clog-like beak, alone, measures a foot long and nearly half a foot wide. But if you came upon a shoebill, there's a good chance you'd be intimidated not only by the size but the fact that they don't move. Shoebills can stand motionless for hours, waiting for the perfect moment to catch their prey. And when the time is right, they make their move by exhibiting a behavior called collapsing. This means that they simply fall forward on their prey with their beaks wide open, scooping up their meal. They're not only deliberate in their movements but also in their sounds. Shoebills are typically silent except when they arrive at the nest. Then, they'll clatter their bills, much like storks do, to communicate with one another. If you were wondering what these prehistoric-looking birds eat, don't worry—humans aren't on the menu... HERE, with many photos and the video: https://mymodernmet.com/shoebill-stork/1 point

Sorry Missed your introduction and wanted to also say hi from North East USA. You said its OK to say anything in this thread and I have a few things I"d like to say RE being on the spectrum. If course, I'm certain you already know this very well ... its (this conflicted) society that tells us what is considered to be (and not be) awkward. I think what you said is so beautiful and said very well: Without my (so called) illnesses (diagnosed by narcissist medical professionals) , I'm not sure I'd made it this far when deemed "damaged goods'. While I'm not (officially) on the spectrum nor Autistic, I feel quite passionate towards so as I'm a TBI [Tramatic Brain Injury] survivor and have Chiari brain malformation as a result from dating back to childhood. Some might also consider myself to be awkward in social settings (no argument there as I fully admit I DO have social phobia) and out of my comfort zone, but I'm also very keen in other way and my eyes area 'wide open' and I'd like to think I (we) have good intuition and common sense. I feel sorry for people that are uptight and fall prey to the brainwashing and are conditioned with 'eyes closed", has we are not followers when we discover that we have to figure out our own walk to make it through this life. Not saying people that go with the flow are followers, just stating that its not an easy life to go against the grain and fight the (so - called) Normal expectations . I'm looking forward to reading more from you here. Welcome to MSFN EDIT: Sorry, but I needed to edit that mistakes and add more information because I consider this to be very important and not to be taken lightly. Thankfully nobody said anything until I went back and caught my errors. Errr ... sometimes (all the time ... lol) I'm in brain fog city.1 point
