Intel Ethernet Connection Driver for Windows 98SE
submix8c replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Dunno if this will help but it *implies* that the PNP8FFF entry *could* be anything "available". http://pranaykr.blogspot.com/2005/02/lesson-data-link-and-physical-layers.html Google-foo says these are the "ranges" usable: PNP8000-PNP8FFF And going back to the Documentation it says to provide *multiple* entries in PROTOCOL.INI. http://web.mit.edu/cron/documentation/dell-server-admin/en/IntelNIC/dos_odi.htm (above is just an additional link to the previous ones) HTH - and definitely back up the INI and REG before fiddling. BTW, is there more than one REG entry? *Theoretically" creating another entry (based upon above) and modifying the INI *should* work. -
Have you installed Win32s? http://cd.textfiles.com/superozsw/UTILS/WIN32S/ http://rabbit.eng.miami.edu/info/win32s.html http://web.mit.edu/cascon/microsoft/win32sfaq.htm Files seem to be the same version, Info may/may not help. No clue if it will help. What are you using for a Graphics driver? "Built into" Win3.11? if it has "embedded" drivers (can't remember)... Browse this: http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/index.php?catid=5 Another Slow-Down Utility ($$$ though) - http://www.hpaa.com/moslo/ The "Basic" is free. http://www.hpaa.com/moslo/basic.asp <-v1.51 http://www.bunnzy.org/applications/moslo<-v1.5 I've used it a looooong time ago....

Intel Ethernet Connection Driver for Windows 98SE

Google "microsoft family logon" "client for microsoft" differenceA lot of info jumps up, including one about "Windows Logon". First one (for the above) - http://microsoft.public.windowsxp.network-web.narkive.com/V8IDBWJP/microsoft-family-logon-or-client-for-microsoft-networks HTH edit - BTW, been busy so haven't tested the NDIS2 stuff yet. Worse, all sorts f hardware problems cropped up due to swapping a floppy drive (*lots* of bad 1.44 floppies). Got my main one back up though - cables, cables, cables). -
(Thinking Nomen delights in starting threads so everyone will start "debating" and could care less about what's being said.)
-
It would be nice if you said which drivers/version and where you got them from.
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IO.SYS And that's limited to the "basics". Networking is an entirely independent function, since that hardware *may* not exist on the Motherboard. Any "driver" needed to access other than "basic" hardware will depend on the OS environment. (DOS, Win9X, NT-something). Fun topic (re: Networking) - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/173062-intel-ethernet-connection-driver-for-windows-98se/ IOW, (e.g.) Sound Cards have absolutely nothing to do with "essential to boot" functions.

Intel Ethernet Connection Driver for Windows 98SE
submix8c replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Download and take a look at this PDF. www.trilicium.ca/Library/dos7_1.pdfAlso look at ths (find string "ndis2")http://www.astonisher.com/archives/bugnet/analysis/reports/win98_3.html Looking in my VPC Registry I see those Real Mode Drivers specified as shown in the REG stuff found in the PDF. Be aware that you will be running Real Mode Networking (16-bit DOS NDIS2 Driver). Your specs will be in the PROTOCOL.INI for Speed, Duplex, etc, unless there are Defaults, which is why I said to read over the DOCS in the previous post links. Trust me, it won't work even in a DOS Boot Floppy unless everything needed is there. I kind of wonder if using the "MT" Driver (see the v10.3 E1000 drivers I gave the link to) may work? HTH -
Intel Ethernet Connection Driver for Windows 98SE

(shrugs...) I have inklings... I also have this old Netserver with -3- HP EN1207D NICS ("Accton") + the built-in HP NIC but haven't tried installing anything but XP on it so far. They *appear* to not be automagically found (AFAICR). I suppose I could fiddle with it to see if there's something "special" about it. Note that there's no OEMSETUP for the LANMAN-DOS drivers that I could "test" with. *HOWEVER* this is the WFW311 one. ;EN5030(8) OEMSETUP.INF File:[netcard]EN5030="Accton EN1207D Series Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter",000,ndis,ethernet,0x07,en5030,en5030_nif[disks]1=..\Win95sr2\,"Accton EN1207D, EN1207D Series PCI Ethernet Adapter Driver Disk", disk12=..\Win95sr2\,"Accton EN1207D, EN1207D Series PCI Ethernet Adapter Driver Disk", disk1[en5030]ndis2=1:accnd.dosndis3=*:ACCND.386mlid=2:accodi.com[en5030_nif]drivername=ACCND$param=Medium,"Medium Type",enum,"Auto,0,10Half,1,10Full,2,100Half,3,100Full,4",0,0x30param=NETADDRESS,"Network Address",chars,13,"@000000000000",0x02param=ETHERID,"Node Address",chars,13,"@000000000000",0x02param=BusNo ,"Adpater's Bus Number",int,"0,255,1",0,0x32param=DeviceNo ,"Adpater's Device Number",int,"0,31,1",0,0x32param=TxFIFO ,"Adpater's TX Early Threshold",int,"0,63,1",5,0x32(somebody screwed up the descriptives, apparently)Notice the NDIS2/NDIS3 entries? the NDIS3 points to that folder, the NDIS2, I have no clue... Here is the OEMSETUP found in the "NDIS\DOS" folder (along with a NIF file?) ;Accton EN1207D Series OEMSETUP.INF File:[netcard]EN5030="Accton EN1207D Series PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter",000,ndis,ethernet,real,en5030,en5030_nif[en5030]devdir=?:accnd.dosdevice=accnd.dos,@devdir\accnd.dos[en5030_nif]drivername=accnd$param=Medium,"Medium type ",text,"_Auto,_10Half,_10Full,_100half,_100Full",_Auto,0x30param=NETADDRESS,"Network Address",chars,13,"@000000000000",0x02param=ETHERID,"Node Address",chars,13,"@000000000000",0x02param=Adapter,"Adpater Number",int,"1,256,1",0,0x32param=TxFiFo ,"Adpater's TX Early Threshold",int,"0,63,1",5,0x32Note the difference between the WFW and the DOS one. Also comprae to the DOC link I gave previously. There has to be a way. We *are* extremely stubborn old fellers. Note: Thinking that the PROTOCOL.INI has to be modified to account for multiple/dual NIC (driver specified for each "slot"). -
HOWTO install Microsoft Security Essentials on POSReady 2009
submix8c replied to dajhorn's topic in Windows XP
Do you have the correct version? Please read these threads: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171498-need-microsoft-security-essentials-grab-it-now/ http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171659-bug-in-microsoft-security-essentials-downs-windows-xp-machines/ Also note that the link given in the REG entry leads you to a newer version that *apparently* is for Vista/Win7? Please note that regardless of Support for POSReady2009, it's *still* (basically) XP. HTH, and good luck. -
FWIW, just searching on "stdole32.tlb" I get all kinds of hits, one being: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2007-office_install/stdole32tlb-file-missing/9f1bfc94-7263-4422-a17b-a67233d8f111 And another (same solution): http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2007-excel/stdole32tlb-in-excel/6304959e-796a-45a4-9abc-82805b0f716d Here's an oddball. By chance, is this an OEM Win7 and had a "newer" Office installed? http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/528044/stdole32tlb-in-excel-2007/ HTH (no, I don't have Win7x64+Office2K7 installed ATM, so not sure if the above *will* help... sorry.)

Intel Ethernet Connection Driver for Windows 98SE
submix8c replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Ahem... You *did* read this, right? ftp://ftp.mathematik.uni-marburg.de/pub/mirror/supermicro/driver/LAN/Intel/PRO_v10.4/PRO1000/DOCS/DOS-ODI/driv_dos.htm And it *seems* that the INF you initially used is giving only one instance of a Driver. *Theoretically* you should have *two* NIC definitions, not just one ( pay attention to the Driver specifications correlation to the Protocol.INI ). Also note that you simply have an *update* to what is given in that link! All of the rest still applies. -
Dell Optiplex 320 Windows XP setup Sata Driver
submix8c replied to ambroseg1's topic in Device Drivers
Here is some more assistance/help, in addition to what Tripredacus has requested. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/135840-integration-of-amd-ati-sb7xx-textmode-raid-ahci-drivers-on-an-xp/ See second post. Fernando seems to do very well at this SATA AHCI/RAID thingie. What confuses me is that Dell only offers Chipset driver that has the IDE Mode driver inside, generally to be installed *after*(?). http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/optiplex-320/drivers -
Post #2 asked - 1 - What is the hardware (name Who Makes it and what is Model) computer 2 - What Driver (name it and where you got it) you integrated (Text Mode Driver?) Specifically *why* VirtualBox may fail - https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch05.html Apologies, but you will not get much help by *not* answering questions. Please answer *all* questions. So far, you tell us *only* - 1 - XP integrate driver (which one?) with nLite 2 - Blue Screen (what is message?) 3 - Trying to install in VirtualBox 4 - BIOS has no SATA Mode Change No *detail* information.

Intel Ethernet Connection Driver for Windows 98SE
submix8c replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Ummm... there's a parameter in the PROTOCOL.INI for "SLOT" when you have more than one NIC in the PCI slots. Yours is a Dual-Port, so one might wonder if that has anything to do with it? Again, all the info is in the DOCS folders, including PROTOCOL.INI parameters. -

Intel Ethernet Connection Driver for Windows 98SE
submix8c replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows 9x/ME
I found this as well. ftp://ftp.mathematik.uni-marburg.de/pub/mirror/supermicro/driver/LAN/Intel/There appears to be an "older" version of the same DOS drive and instructions on the use/installation in DOCS folders. There's even Win98 drivers (last one is in v10.4) but the INF doesn't have that DEV listed. Perhaps the driver(s) would work if the appropriate DEV entry was added? Also note that (AFAICT) the best speed you get with the NDIS2 (DOS) is 100mbs. Look in any of the (v10.x and up) folders for non-98 and find "e1e5132.inf" - inside is the specification for that VEN/DEV. edit: FWIW, here's the DOS v15.5 (Newer of the ones found at SuperMicro, same instructions). https://driverscollection.com/?file_cid=42412606929854d1614b5e788be HTH (sheesh!) -
Yeah, they didn't say where to get this at all. They solved *their* problem, so what's *your* problem, Nomen? Here, I'll help you both out. Where did you get the upgrades and fixes? They're obviously incomplete. (see next quote). That one's obsolete. If you had gotten (e.g.) Autopatcher there a sveral files in there to update OLE/MSJET. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837001 The NT4 one is in the Autopatcher package (perfectly suitable for 98/ME AFAIK, apparently) and is a complete replacement for KB829558. See the Technet link inside. Here's the NT4 one that's in Autopatcher. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7147 Now, as for "needing help", I guess since it's "fixed" you don't really need help, *but* you might inform us of where you got your "upgrades/fixes". The only ones I'm aware of is the Autopatcher (contains unofficial updates) and the Unofficial 98SESP3. If there is an *insistence* that this Topic doesn't belong here, then it needs moved. Also, Trip needs to remove his entirely, right? (wow!) =edit= As a side note, $2.99 seems to be one heck of a deal. See this 2004 thread for the price back then. http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/7710334 =edit2= Oddly, it appears that the Photoshop *Album* v2.0 is (theoretically) incompatible with Win98. http://www.imaging-resource.com/SOFT/PA2/PA2.HTM http://www.adobe.com/uk/support/downloads/psa2se_download.html Only for Windows ME and up?
-
I didn't see anyone asking for help, just informing of a process to revive an old PC. IMHO, this would constitute a "Member Project" to be shared with anyone that has same/similar hardware as a "how-to".

Intel Ethernet Connection Driver for Windows 98SE
submix8c replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows 9x/ME
You're lacking a few things in the way of the setup. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH107167 Note the above "basics" is for "pure DOS" as my previous post indicated. An example for Ghost (DOS) for a 3Com. Config.sys DEVICE=\net\protman.dos /I:\netDEVICE=\net\dis_pkt.dosDEVICE=\net\EL90X.DOSAutoexec.bat \net\netbind.com...assuming using "net" folder at the Root of the disk. PROTMAN.DOS (and PROTMAN.EXE) are in "Windows" folder. NETBIND.COM can be downloaded from MS. See Intel instructions for Ghost-v5.1 (but for a Xircom adapter): http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/CS-003300.htm DIS_PKT.DOS (maybe) from here (and read it as well; DOS 6.22): http://www.legroom.net/howto/msdos PROTOCOL.INI is what *you* have to do, as well as you *own* DOS Driver file. Again, the above is *stricltly* DOS, so... I have no clue what the deal is with the INF. I guess I could look into attempting to load an NDIS2 into Win98 (VM or real) to see how Sfor did it. HTH edit: I'm *assuming* you got that from here? https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=enu&ProdId=2776 -
Intel Ethernet Connection Driver for Windows 98SE
submix8c replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Follow-up: The Win9x OS may not recognize it even if loaded as I described/noted. You may *still* have "no joy". edit - NM, as dencorso linked you to a potentially useful procedure. -
Like an old HP Netserver (maxed @1gbRAM, but need a pair of faster CPU's, now @2x550PIII-Slot) or an old HP Pavilion 4453 (maxes at 768mbRAM, but only have 2x256+1x128 atm). Both currently running XP but soon to be dual-booted to 98SE for old kids games. BTW, I cross-flashed the Pav to its real ASUS P5S-VM BIOS (hot-swap) - a really fun stunt. Somewhere I logged the procedure, but where. If anyone needs the help to pull it off, say so and I'll search the guts of my HDD's. Sadly, thee -is- no BIOS update for the Netserver - unique to HP. Still, it's hella fast for it's age with XP (*real* dual CPU's). BTW, I had a couple of older eTowers so I may have some drivers if you haven't found them all. But then again, you've already managed to do a Restore.
