  1. I see it too. Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) Presto/2.12.388 Version/12.18 GL
  2. Just another rant (things I've noticed and that bug me): - Yes, this is shift+enter. IPS wants to invent new use of the ENTER key, forbidding me to use it as I see fit. That's dictatorship. I know it was discussed before. - If the editor (which I'm writing into now) loses focus (left click somewhere else), I can't easily get the cursor again. If there is nothing written, it's impossible (except with right click, but then I need to press ESC to cancel the browser's context menu); If there is something written, two clicks are needed. - "Load more content" when there is no more content. Apart from being illogical, that's also very "NuMicrosoft" - nothing is certain, we can change whatever whenever we want, you're not in control of anything and don't deserve to know the full picture. Also, it saves them work (they don't always need to process everything, many people will give up). But... - Sometimes it blocks (server hiccup?) and keeps waiting forever. Inventing a problem where there wasn't one. Because... - It's dynamic. Any moment something might change. After the forum "upgrade" I've found I miss many more things with my mouse, because everything has jumped, and I rarely can see what was the reason for that. IMHO, nothing in the forum should be dynamic, we don't need real-time notifications, nothing is that important. Another shift+enter. Bye. GL
  3. On another note, can anyone please tell me which is the last version of Chrome that doesn't block npapi (java)? I need it for work. Exact version and subversion, please. I know that for a long time there were only warnings that could be overridden, but around version 45 the kill switch was supposed to be toggled. I have version 44 and Google (the site) is nagging me to update. I have disabled all updaters (scheduled tasks etc.), set group policy (I use business edition), but I want to find the last usable version and forget about it.
  4. It happenned to me too, I notified Xper through the support link, he said he's working on the issue and I haven't seen it since. Maybe it's a coincidence, it didn't happen to me always, only when there was a long period between my visits (24 hrs?). I wasn't logged off, just asked to accept EULA.
  5. Set timeout=0 And delete only the last line if you are sure you'll never need it. GL
  6. @jaclaz and all Opera Presto users: Photobucket, tinypic and some similar photo sharing sites don't play well with Opera because they sniff the http request (probably useragent and what not) and change the requested image in midst of the request with html (their full page) either because they want to show you ads or maybe due to incompetence (embed into iframes or similar, and Opera is not too friendly to iframes originating from another domain). These are just my speculations as to why, but I am sure that they switch the content that is requested (the image) to something else. What I found to be the cure: change opera:config#Network|HTTPAccept to "*/*" (without the quotes) This is supposed to be NOOP, because by default the field is empty and that means that Opera accepts everything, but this change fixes most image hosting sites and doesn't break anything else. HTH GL
  7. Nothing out of the ordinary in the .ini, it might be the edition - Windows XP Professional (Media Center v4.0) SP4 - 5.1.2600.6748 - English (United States). Regardless of Nlite, check if the following directories exist: %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\YOURCURRENTUSERNAME\Start Menu\Programs and %SystemDrive%\Documents and settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs and if not, create the directory structure (that directory and any above it, if missing). (%SystemDrive% is usually C:) GL
  8. You need only the latest. I.e. if you have SP1, you don't need RTM.
  9. The explanation in the second link is ridiculous. "Because bad websites were persistant, coders gave up". That's what computers and computer programs are for, to automate repetitive tasks. If a website repetitively attacks you, you repetitively fight back, you don't surrender.
  10. For full hardware acceleration support, Guest Additions are needed (installed inside the virtual machine). Sadly, they aren't supported for Win9x. Maybe you can find some trick or older version to install. GL
  11. This update fixed it for Opera Presto.
  12. This is one thing Microsoft got right. I wouldn't want my file to take off to a removable drive, which can be of course removed, and leave my computer so easily. And on the same drive the move operation is just a matter of few small writes to the mft, it's quick and painless, and I usually don't want multiple copies on the same drive. It all seems logical to me. I don't know of a way to alter the defaults, but maybe you could use CTRL or SHIFT or right click? You probably already knew that.
  13. Windows has been changing permissions by itself since permissions existed. I can think of some examples on XP (I just checked): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Credentials HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ServiceCurrent They are harmless, unlike: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SAM\SAM HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY Where you can render your machine unbootable if you give yourself too many permissions (I've stoped even looking at these keys long time ago, so I don't want to check if it alters them too, but it wouldn't surprise me).
  14. Mid-air reboot due to Windows Update. Scary stuff.
  15. Coming from AmigaOS, which didn't have stellar memory management, I'm used to rebooting in order to clear memory. But I also think it's a good idea on Windows too, so before I start any serious work, I reboot. Also, true reboot (non-hybrid or whatever) is a chance to perform hardware diagnostic of individual components. And as I tinker with registry a lot, reboot is also a must. So I always tend to have as little uptime as possible.
  16. No, clipbook viewer's removal doesn't remove any functionality of cut/copy/paste. Print Screen will work. And sorry, I can't remember now about NT Backup. It had some dependency, but I forgot what it was. And I don't have a computer with NLite available now to quickly check. Edit: I see from presets that I always remove it. GL
  17. Hi Alps and welcome, I remove nearly all of those without any ill effect. Most of them are standalone, with the exception of: Defragmenter - In Windows 7, I think prefetch and disk cleanup depend on it. I am not sure if that's the same with XP, but I always keep it, it's not large, and I use it sometimes. Paint - some filetypes (bmp etc.) depend on it (in a somewhat unusual way - not just the filetypes where you open a file by extension, but also "components" where it's embedded inside a program). I am not sure about the exact name of that "technology" (possibly OLE/COM). I have kept Paint and removed those CLSIDs later and found no problems, but for pristine operation I think it should not be removed. Of course I always install an image viewer that takes over the regular filetypes. I'd remove: Calculator - if i'm not mistaken, it's just one file and you could even replace it with your exe Charmap - Not needed if you don't input non-Latin characters, but I need it, so I keep it. I am also not sure if the equivalent function in Office depends on it, or it's standalone. Screensavers - can be removed, and you can still install your own screensaver if you want to. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ClipBook_Vieweris not necessary, clipboard (cut/copy/paste) functions with it removed. Wordpad - I always install Office and replace it, so I remove it. File Sync - It might be needed for Offline Files, but I don't use them, so I remove it.
  18. First time I heard about SGX. It sounds like Microsoft's wet dream (Windows SmartScreen filter on steroids), or "use only trusted programs by us, not by you", possibly "pay pay program start" and even running the whole OS inside those "enclaves" so the users can't touch anything. And the biggest enclave is reserved for telemetry.
  19. This is the post that warned me. Yes, it was that all driver installs failed and I didn't know why. After I re-enabled the services, drivers could be installed again.
  20. TimeBroker and/or that other Broker when disabled broke Task Scheduler during my brief Win8.1 testing. Although I removed the dependency, it still didn't work quite right. Or maybe it was another "out of sight" subsystem, like WMI or Perfmon. Or it was the driver installation procedure. In the end, I decided to keep the brokers active, although I hate them as much as anyone.
  21. I use Winrar for backup of some of my important folders to HDD. This is the batch file: REM @echo offsetlocalcd C:\PATH\TO\THISFOLDER"%programfiles%\WinRAR\rar.exe" a -r -dh -m5 -mct -rr100p -ag{NAMEOFTHISFOLDER_}YYYY{_}MM{_}DD{_}N G:\BACKUPFOLDER\cd C:\PATH\TO\ANOTHERFOLDER"%programfiles%\WinRAR\rar.exe" a -r -dh -m5 -mct -rr100p -ag{NAMEOFANOTHERFOLDER_}YYYY{_}MM{_}DD{_}N G:\BACKUPFOLDER\ It could be optimized more, but for now there are just few folders. The names are incremental, if I make multiple copies on a same day, the last digit increases. The resulting names are in the form of: NAMEOFTHISFOLDER_2015_10_29_1.rar NAMEOFANOTHERFOLDER_2015_10_29_1.rar Rar compression is highest, because why not, and for safety I use 100% RAR recovery record in case something happens to the HDD. The batch could be easily incorporated into Task Scheduler, but for now I run it manually.
  22. Or could it be just disrespect of user's preferences by Microsoft? OMG is that even possible?...
