It's actually quite trivial to trick it. I used Application Verifier to get the .exe to extract the .msi, which I backed up, and removed the check for Windows 7 using Orca. It works until it tries installing vmx driver, that step instantly fails and the installer rolls back all the progress. I extracted the .msi, and I've tried looking to see what causes the issue, the .inf is good as it's the exact same as 15.5.6 besides the version. One dll, vmx86.dll has a system version of 6.2, but setting it to 6.1 did nothing, I've also checked it with Dependency Walker, and saw Windows 7 has all the needed functions. I checked vmx86ver.dll, and that has no system version, and in Dependency Walker, the only missing function is "_except_handler4_common" in vcruntime140.dll, but it still should install and not instantly fail. I didn't look at vmx86.cat, but that shouldn't change anything.

In your opinion, what are the best/worst versions of Microsoft Windows?

I'd like to try that theme out, but I can't find that theme. All I find when Googling the name is a theme for Windows 7 named Aero8. -

Maybe it'd be more worth it to mod 382.05 or 381.89 then
-
Well, you could take a look and find out. I think that if the drivers even install, there has to be some of WDDM 1.0 left

We're not talking about XP, we're talking about Vista

I dislike Facebook, but at least they were one of the few that stuck around with a good design. Now, it seems like that's not true anymore

Where can I find Windows Vista ultimate extras?
asdf2345 replied to Sergiaws's topic in Windows Vista
Install Vista x64, and I'll help you then -
Bit late, but Dumps.7z

Does the current ntkrnlmp have those functions, or is it currently a version modded ntoskrnl?
-
I just remembered someone else that might be able to help with this, @Dibya. Mainly thinking about this post @Dibya might be able to fix the 372.70 drivers, and maybe even port much newer AMD drivers to Vista. Also, @Dibya might be able to help with the extended kernel
-
I think it would have been easier for you to get those older versions of Chromium x86 working. Steam mostly works, we just need to trick it into loading the Windows 7 x64 CEF.
-
Well, with the extended kernel, up to AMD 15.100 drivers work without any modification (Well, you would need to modify the .inf, but other than that, nothing is needed). The AMD 15.6 CCC is missing some powerprof.dll functions, but works anyways. Maybe with the new ntoskrnl, I could try the 16.2.1 drivers, or those modded 16.101 drivers. I think someone would need to mod 372.70 drivers to work better with Vista, because I think the issue is not missing functions. @win32 seems to be the best person to attempt such a thing, unless @blackwingcat decides to try and fix them, but that's highly unlikely. I think I'd rather see the Oct 2nd Steam tricked into running the Windows 7 CEF without issue, or Discord working on Vista before I see the Haswell+ or Ryzen issues fixed. Since Chromium 73 stable and newer don't work on Vista, I think you'd need to modify a older copy of Discord, which Discord still hosts. https://dl.discordapp.net/apps/win/0.0.305/DiscordSetup.exe This is the last(?) copy of Discord that has a Chromium 69 CEF, and should be the easiest to get working on Vista. If you bypass the shortcut, and run Discord directly, it'll update to the latest version of 305, and run. Edit: There might be a Chromium 72 Discord Development build, but I'm not sifting through thousands of versions of Discord Development.

Kinda off topic, but are you using some sort of theme? The caption buttons look a little odd, and I can't figure out why.

Think I'll do what OP did, and just make the ISO be off the site, but accessible through a hyperlink on the site I post here
-
Most are from RTM SP2, but I'm pretty sure I posted some dumps from the 2017 EOS point, and the 2020 EOS point. I'll try to get some more with the custom kernel tomorrow.

Thought I replied to this, it still crashes quite a bunch.

Don't know if I'm temporarily more lucky, but Vista appears more stable now.
-
Will try on my Ryzen system.

Do the mods still think redistributing Windows without a crack is "piracy"? Just wondering because I made a copy of Vista updated to EOL, and I'm wanting to post it. Also, there's a custom copy of Windows called Windows 9. It's basically a highly modded, updated, and slimmed down 8.1 Embedded Industry Pro copy, which I'm 100% certain that Microsoft knows about, because of all the coverage it got by Reddit and LTT. Also, the creator states "This image is provided with no license key, therefore it is not an illegal source of windows. Users must provide their own license key for activation." I agree with that statement, and it appears to have worked for all the years Windows 9 has existed, because it's still a thing, and still hosted.

What do you think could be causing the Vista issues? I don’t know if I’ve said this here, but I tried Server 2008 R1 again, and have the random bluescreens with it too
-
I think I might have made a fully up to date Vista ISO. Once I figure out how to integrate KB2864202 into the boot.wim, I'll test it on my Ryzen system, then likely release it for anyone to use with instructions on how to replicate the ISO.
