  1. Finally got around to taking a picture... here is Petco (a pet store) proudly showing off XP... sorry how its hard to see the bright light behind the monitor from outside wasn't helping my already sucky camera.
  2. there's plenty 256mb graphics cards for windows 98. I have an ATI radeon 9250, but you can certainly do better than that. take a look at the ATI Radeon 9800 https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=radeon+9800&_sacat=0 drivers for the 9800: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/archive/radeonaiw-98me I'm not TOTALLY sure, you may be able to do better than this but i know this model works and is "good".
  3. To OP: beware that this specific "dell-ish" video card needs one of these adapters: (see picture) the black end fits on the card connector and it yields two VGA connectors at the other end. there's apparently a DVI version as well, if that's your thing. buy one: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-DMS-59-Splitter-Monitor-Adapter/dp/B003EHCPWM
  4. did you try using 95's resource meter to measure resources? (may have to be enabled in add/remove programs)
  5. i noticed this as well, in windows 2000, i clicked windows update on the start menu, and it worked! let me check...hey! it works on xp for me as well!
  6. ooooh! before i "unleash" it on my main 98 system i'll set up a VM to see how it goes.
  7. i can say the radeon 9250 sucks. it doesn't seem to fully support DX9.
  8. doesn't really affect me that much but it sounds like a good idea to try, but a challenge at that.
  9. check page two of this subforum...it's there.

  12. Did anyone notice a huge performance increase with flash 24? I can run some games at HQ now...
  13. I tried Patching it with xompie. No luck.
  14. Update: YAY!!! reinstalling sp4 did fix the problem. i got 4 posready updates, which is a start. if memory serves me, it was sort of random how many updates i got per check.(my computers are weird) Thank you all for your help!
  15. looks to be about the same... scribbled out things that might identify me. http://prntscr.com/eba0fa heres what most of currentcontrolset\control currently looks like http://prntscr.com/eba1yw thank you.
  16. okay... i loaded the hives into win7 regedit, and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WindowsEmbedded HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\WEPOS HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\WES were all not there, just like in windows xp regedit. and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady was there with the correct dword value. of course these weren't literally in hkey local machine , because i loaded the hive somewhere else. i checked windows update again and got office 2007 updates but nothing else (i recently installed office 2007 compatibilty pack) should i have a key called "mediacenter" with dword 0x00000000 in the hkey local machine\system\wpa folder? (i dont have xp mce) perhaps there's a way to manually install the updates? Screenshot_28.bmp
  17. I am using ie8 on xp sp3 32-bit i also have win7 installed, so i will boot into that and download erdregedit
  18. Well, i haven't gotten any posready updates from any month...could this cancellation affect my ability to get all updates, or just the nonexistent February ones?
  19. Hello, I'm Having trouble with the posready 2009 update hack for windows xp. I have unofficial sp4 3.1b installed. i still tried removing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WindowsEmbedded from registry, and of course, adding Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady] "Installed"=dword:00000001 I have fiddled around with windows update settings, and firewall settings. i get plain xp updates for things i recently installed, but dont get posready updates.
