  1. i was a member for just a short time, but i'm devastated. i can be reached at <redacted email> .com shoot me a line or two sometime skype should be <redacted invalid information>, will verify this and update tomorrow...
  2. My windows update scan took only 8 seconds! that was quite fast! :D
  3. 'Twas a shocking experience! I had noticed it was off and figured the switch had gotten stepped on but that was not the case. as you can see the electric circuitry had a very, very, bad day and caught on fire, also shocking me. Interestingly, it looks just dandy from the outside of the strip still. make sure to buy decent surge protectors, that might save you rather than KILL you... (im fine btw)
  4. fixed. downloaded all the frameworks from MS after using the cleanup tool and it applies updates fine now. I guess my USP4 installer is corrupt...
  5. Hello all, I'm having a very strange issue where when i apply certain update(s) (not sure which) to the .net framework from windows update, it all goes south and .Net frameworks 2-4 break completely. .net 1.1 sp1 remains working and checks out fine with the netfx setup verifier (every other version fails verification.) I've reinstalled windows already and it's still happening. the only solution is to remove the offending versions of .net framework and reinstall them. But then updates need to be applied again... I am running USP4 and POSReady updates if that matters. My desktop PC with XP seems to be unaffected. (just my thinkpad T60 has issues.) I'll see if i can narrow down which updates cause the issue. EDIT: i the yellow sheild alerted me to more .net updates, maybe applying these will somehow fix it...
  6. considering its a preview, does it function like IE10? does it render differently (better, hopefully) then IE 9 does?
  7. yes i had saw that, and figured i'd try it before i try my usual choice, SpeedFan. looks swell to be sure!
  8. I'll make sure to check that forum out, Monroe. Thanks! Don't know how i missed that forum, but they will likely be of help.
  9. Yeah I figured... I'll do some (more) poking around myself, but I don't think it's gonna happen (with a full set of drivers, at least.)
  10. Poor flash. ...wow so XP will be supported until the end of time December 2020 like other OSes? That would be some good news.
  11. Pretty soon i will Have an IBM...err...Lenovo Thinkpad T60 to mess with... and, eventually, I'll upgrade the CPU to Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7600 Which is 64-bit. Has anyone run XPx64 on a T60? I can't seem to find anything on it. Any chance of XP32 drivers working on 64 bit? I may be able to find drivers for the individual parts from their manufacturers, but i am not entirely sure of the hardware in it yet as i don't have the laptop. (snail mail takes a bit...) I'm asking now because i don't want to buy a XPx64 licence if it might not work... Ill post more details when i receive this laptop.
  12. Finally got around to taking a picture... here is Petco (a pet store) proudly showing off XP... sorry how its hard to see the bright light behind the monitor from outside wasn't helping my already sucky camera.
  13. there's plenty 256mb graphics cards for windows 98. I have an ATI radeon 9250, but you can certainly do better than that. take a look at the ATI Radeon 9800 https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=radeon+9800&_sacat=0 drivers for the 9800: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/archive/radeonaiw-98me I'm not TOTALLY sure, you may be able to do better than this but i know this model works and is "good".
  14. To OP: beware that this specific "dell-ish" video card needs one of these adapters: (see picture) the black end fits on the card connector and it yields two VGA connectors at the other end. there's apparently a DVI version as well, if that's your thing. buy one: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-DMS-59-Splitter-Monitor-Adapter/dp/B003EHCPWM
  15. did you try using 95's resource meter to measure resources? (may have to be enabled in add/remove programs)
  16. i noticed this as well, in windows 2000, i clicked windows update on the start menu, and it worked! let me check...hey! it works on xp for me as well!
  17. ooooh! before i "unleash" it on my main 98 system i'll set up a VM to see how it goes.
  18. i can say the radeon 9250 sucks. it doesn't seem to fully support DX9.
  19. doesn't really affect me that much but it sounds like a good idea to try, but a challenge at that.
  20. check page two of this subforum...it's there.
