This man contributed a lot to our community here, and is the source to know about windows 98 (9x). The sheer work he put into 98 is unbelievable. His work is what M$ should be doing. Continuing off were they left instead of trying to reinvent it.

I'm not giving up on XP yet, I mean I didn't buy POSReady 2009 for nothing, which may, or may not get updates, but still. XP is fine, and I dont see any issues as long as the user has common sense. (Which no offense is lacking today)

Try it out. I particularly don't use Comondo stuff. (only downloaded to get that screenshot) I personally found it faster than firefox during my little test surfing. I also heard some good reviews about the chrome version, so that is why I posted the firefox version.

This is very good for now I will finally be able to search effortlessly on my dad's computer. The only downside is that windows 8 is still crap and less stable than 7 or vista.

The better thing about this is imagine the things you could do with this XP when program support ends. If M$ cant kill 9x then by all needs they can't touch XP.

I know! I was just simply stating that KernelEx alone or with stubs is not enough to get some newer programs running. If you want I can reword it.

I decided to make this thread for it seems that UPXing is a new field of compatibility for 9x. KernelEx (Kex stubs) seems to not allow certain new versions of programs that would normally run to work, or some that wouldn't run to begin with. (Vlc for example) To start of the list I will post what Apps we know that will work. More info about it starts on another thread, with this post by loblo. Is anyone else here having trouble getting sound to play in vlc 2.1.3. I tried UPXing multiple fresh copies, but I get the same result no sound. EDIT: reverted backdown to vlc 2.1.2 and still have the sound issue,so it seems to not be a 2.1.3 issue, but rather an issue of my setup. I'll investigate some more.

As already mentioned in my initial post: PotPlayer 1.6.46541 which is the current/latest version. Way better than VLC in every way IMO. Supports HEVC & VP9 decoding. LavFilters 0.59.1 nightly build of 2013-12-16 at http://roy.orz.hm/lavf-w32-nightlies/lavf-my131216-210f2d6.7z. All subsequent builds also crash in kexbases.dll. Supports HEVC & VP9 decoding. Any Gimp version that has exe/dll crashing up to the current/latest 2.8.10. Those are the only ones I know for sure but there are certainly many more for you to discover. Thanks. This is very interesting in deed. I think there are a a lot more programs out there that will work with this. Time to experiment.

If chrome is the way then chromium is the answer. Chromium is better because for it is open-source and has unwanted junk removed, like auto updating. If you still want Firefox/Firefox-like vinifera you could try the new beta release of K-Meleon. It is said to fix some issues, and I'm going to try it now. Also you could just use Firefox 3.6.28 and change its user-agent string. 3.6.28 rendered all the sites I used with the fake Firefox 24 UAS.

NO NO continue please continue. I'm guessing that this program isn't normally supported with KernelEx... Interesting. If there are a lot more programs like this then UPX should get its own thread .

Hmm seems to be having a problem. I did the way I described in the description, then I did it with just dlls (uninstalled then reinstalled), but I cant get sound to play. Can't figure out whats wrong.

Its also meant for teens too. The password stops them from games above their accounts ratting limit (Like M rated for example). Also you can have a time limit if you want too. Mr. Gates envisioned the xbox to be a family entertainment toy with everything. That is what happened, and that is why there is kinnect.

Thanks loblo. I know I already thanked you here, but you deserve it. I found that dragging the vlc folder into UPX (GUIPeX) was the quickest way to get vlc to work. It seems that UPXing would be needed for new programs to run since KernelEx died. May I ask you to post a list loblo of all the programs you got to work with this compression tactic.

Well, with all due respect for the nice kid : it has to be said how the flaw: is actually a flaw that even a 5 year old boy could find. I mean, what do the good guys at MS that designed that login mechanism have inside their skulls? Popcorn, polystyrene foam or just vacuum? jaclaz This is absolutely sad. Curious now to see if windows 8 has this security flaw.
