Well I thought just as ready boost is meant to do. I've read about it before and used it on windows vista and I liked it alot. What I'm thinking of though is a way to boast windows 98 in an ever demanding resource world. shure there are patches to get more than 1 gig of ram, but not every buddy has money to spend on it, like me a student. Besides it has a cap to that anyway since Win98 is 32bit and slowly 32bit will fade (also 32bit has a ram cap to it too). Though not as fast as RAM memory it is faster than accesing the harddrive and according to wikipedia it made vast improvements on windows vista with only 512mb of RAM. My windows 98 computer is special. I've moved the harddrive from computer to computer and its current resting place is in an old custom XP SP1 computer (so I can't explain it that well). Since I dont have money to spend on rloews (correct if I spelt name wrong) gig patch and in the long wrong the ammount of ram provided by a 32bit computer wont cut it I think that this is perfect to help out with processing recourse heavy programs like newer web browsers, or flash when sites just give up on the old ones (There are plenty others I bet you guys can think of). I would help you but I have no computer background but I've been poking around microsofts website to I can join a class or something so I can get certified as a Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) (then continue on to being a developer or Microsoft IT professional) I hope you find my points valid and wish you luck. Hopefully I can convince my parents to let me get certified soon (what can I do I'm in highschool) so I can help out not just with your coding (if you are going to do it), but with the site as a whole for I would be honored to help you out for the community.

How did you determine i865 ( or was it a typo ) ? i865 is not a Pentium III era chipset. Can you get photos of the motherboard? To identify this properly you should get a wide shot photo of the whole board, closeups of the text lettering, and one of the back I/O panel. Also a photo of one of the RAM sticks. How did you determine the CPU is Pentium III? Is the CPU a slot mount or normal socket mount? There are many Celerons ( and all kinds of early pre-2004 chips ) that do not read correctly in CpuZ and require the Intel DOS utility ( can't remember the name now ). Yes that was a typo, though since I'm not very profound in hardware or software I could of easily made a mistake of determining what it is. As for the photos I can not do that today but I can get you them and post them tomorrow if that is ok.

Thanks for your replies and help. I found out that Pentium 3 was and i865 system with 256 mb of ram. It has a logo on the front which has the letter VTC in it, but I will take your advice and save it for Win2k. On other note I will be testing the Installing discs in a virtual machine to try and figure out what OEM it is. (disk said it was an OEM but didn't say the company) As for installing windows XP, well I still have two more computers (both not Pentiums and custom built for windows XP) I can try, but if I have issues with them I will post them.I will now start my hunt for the Windows XP retail disc and I thank you for your help I really apreaciate it. ( If I causing you any trouble please tell me since I'm new to forums )

No offense taken man and I can assure you these discs are legit they got the seal on them. Now about me sorry if I'm confusing but I'm no IT professional. Any way though I recently found my discs in a nice case in my basement. (discs state for distribution with a new pc) Now about the pentium 3 I have no idea about it, heck I didn't even know we had one till I locked in the basement. The reason why the activation code didn't work was because I accidentally used the one for home edition instead of pro *embarrassment* but the code on the case worked.

I have both OEM and retail disc versions for both versions of xp. Weirdly though it wont except the activation code. EDIT: Both are SP1

Very recently I found both of windows xp installations disks. Of course I still have to update the ram and all, but this pc has no OS installed on it. Out of necessity which one would be better for it.

Hey everyone let me introduce myself. I'm a High School student (15), and when I graduate I want to be a scientist and an IT professional. I am an honors student so learning isn't an issue.I'm currently taking German 1-5 (starting two in a week) I've been using computers since I was a kid and built a couple. I have four computers in my room, but my favorite one is my windows 98se computer. I have been using her for nine years soon to be ten. I also like to go outside and participated and won three soccer tournaments. I'm also a second degree black belt. Now that you know a bit about me I have a request. I've been watching this site for about a year and really like it. There is one problem though I have no idea what any of you are talking about. This shouldn't be a problem since my school offers classes to become an IT professional at CIT ,but there is a catch. I would have to give up my German classes and I won't do that. My dad (who built computers and wrote software) told my that I can get certified online, and that's why I made this account.
