  1. There was nothing to worry about from the beginning. They have been plenty of windows 9x and xp vulnerabilities topics on this forum, and they ended in the same answer. PEBCAK.
  2. You mean 8.1 . There is no need to worry about getting hacked. As Kelsenellenelvian said the chances of you getting hacked are slim. People are just trying to scare you into getting their product. I cant find this image now, but It showed a table of windows xp, vista, 7, and 8 with amount of known exploits. Behold Xp was the one with the least exploits and 8 with the most . (Image is somewhere on the Deeper impressions thread) Personally I think that XP would be very safe since it was around for such a longtime that finding new exploits should be really hard (Most xp exploits come from software not the os its-self) I dont know what else they can find honesty its like beating a dead horse.
  3. Windows vista shouldn't have issue with software. I would check the software you want to see if its compatible as a precaution. Welcome to the club.
  4. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/170424-using-office-2003-with-vista-x64-sp2-after-april/?p=1062933 Yes. Most malware comes from PEBCAK. Just make sure you have a good antivirus to check the mail.
  5. Windows 8 is the product of M$ panicking to enter the tablet market. Windows 8.1 shouldnt exist for it should of been windows 8.0 (desktop) and windows rt (mobile). Instead they made windows 8.0 into this http://goo.gl/NnRr5S . Personally I don't even know what they were thinking. Ubuntu tried the "metro" interface way before hand, and it flopped. Sadly that is true. M$ did not take proper care of Me at all. (Not saying me is a bad os, but they missed out on a great potential)
  6. I wouldn't be surprised if they started to purposely sabotage XP just to make it insecure, but I dont think they would sabotage MSE. Personally I haven't had any issues with it (besides the fact its a petty grade antivirus).
  7. Never thought about cloning it over good suggestion. I'm currently setting it up a NT 4 with updates in vmware. Good to know that there is a Sata patch for I will need it. I already like its speed.
  8. I found something of interest for you and I. While searching for webbrowsers that I could use for my NT4 system on working on I found this page from a favorite source of mine http://toastytech.com/files/95browsing.html . It's a custom SeaMonkey 1.20 pre release that supports html 5 components. It also has a YouTube spoofer for flash. Happy hunting.
  9. No I did not mean upgrade to 98 (unless you want to), but there are two section for windows 95 osr1, and osr2. The Os you want is you choice.
  10. tried running windows nt 4 setup, but it asked for floppies. Since I dont have floppies anymore I did the /b command, but instead windows halted the setup to protect long file names. I tried using the file Lock ( lock / ) to allow direct disk access, but that failed. Anyway to override the file protection.
  11. adrian von ziegler --- heaven's touch A very soothing instrumental
  12. You should make a separate thread for this.
  13. I'm not I really worded that bad, I meant to say I'm having trouble running the run.bat file to make the cd on my 64bit computer (vista). Sorry for confusion
  14. Here's a nice site. Scroll down to what version of 95 you have. http://www.mdgx.com/ EDIT: I would update your system if you plan to web search. It wont hurt, and will help keep you clean.
  15. Thanks in the process now . EDIT:struggling to run final process (run.bat) because of 64 bit incapabilities. (Not on me computer for I still need to setup PosReady drive in that PC)
  16. That was the problem (besides having fat32 only) with my version of the HP format tool. Never heard of RMPREPUSB in my sheltered world but I'll take a look at it.
  17. I guess that is why the setup failed when I formatted with fat32 . Well time to find the old HP format tool.
  18. Maybe he was refering to the few and fare between metro fans. (I personally like it ... on a tablet that is "still dont find it great then")
  19. I can see why. Windows 8.1 was supposed to be the start menu version from the getco. Windows 8 is tablet os, 8.1 the desktop os, and windows rt being the cellphone os.
  20. I can confirm his statement. (Just called defender)
  21. I live about 8 h away from Detroit. I'm from the keystone state.
  22. The first thing I plan on doing is immediately updating to SP6a. Why Fat16 I was referring to Fat32. (In fact did fat 32 even exist during NT 4's time) EDIT: FAT32 was introduced about a month before sp1 release of nt4 so I would guess it supports it.
  23. Here it rained, then hailled, then snowed .
  24. My disk of NT 4 has service pack one. The only reason why I want ntfs is because of the 4 gig file size issue. (I bet there is a patch for that somewhere too )
