  1. on the contrary, xtrm, on .NET programs. .NET apps may work under win98/me only if .NET Framework 2.0 is installed. as for OE, avoid outlook express. use either 3rd party email clients or web based email. for IE6.0 SP1, install the latest IE6 SP1 patches (both official AND unofficial) from MDGx's IE page: http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm Turn off the "View As Web Page" option to disable the Active Desktop feature; even with a lot of RAM and a fast CPU, Active Desktop slows down the system. Active Desktop has been dumped in XP and Vista Only install WMP9 if you want to burn/write music CDs. My bro likes to burn music CDs from WMP9. WMP 10 does NOT work under Win98se
  2. What the bleep?! The version it gives me now is the wrong version! It's for Vista! use this one, RJARRRPCGP: http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdo...64cff75229e.exe this one works under Win9xME
  3. you can't. the win95b shell is required in order for win95b to work; otherwise, win95b won't run at all. so there is no option to add it during win95b setup
  4. MDGx and others: try un-installing unofficial IE update [KB928090] and re-run Windows Update. I did that and I got access to the V4 Windows Update site on my WinME computer.
  5. Believe it or not, anothersmith84, yes. But you have to replace the PRECOPY1.CAB and W9XSETUP.BIN files with the OEM editions of WinME setup. WinME setup uses the files inside the PRECOPY1.CAB file. I have these two files. email me and I may send them to you. then you can run WinME setup and use the OEM product key that you still have. another difference between the OEM and retail editions of WinME is the file size of the PRECOPY1.CAB and W9XSETUP.BIN files. usually the size of the PRECOPY1.CAB file in the retail editions of ME are bigger than the one found in the OEM editions of ME.
  6. Hey guys, I went to the V4 Windows Update site on my WinME computer a few days ago: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com and it stopped working. for some reason, it redirects to the update.microsoft.com V6 site for those who have Win98fe, Win98se or WinME go to that WU site and see if it still works
  7. Microsoft made different setup sequences between the OEM and retail editions of WinME. So hacking the setupx.dll file will NEVER do the trick. so you can scratch that idea.
  8. I know the difference between the retail and OEM editions of WinME is that in WinME setup, the retail editions ask you for the CD-Key near the beginning of WinME setup while the OEM editions ask you for the CD-key near the end of WinME setup. It was like that in Win98 FE/SE. my HP pavilion PC came with OEM WinME but no WinME CD. the WinME setup files were stored on the hard drive.
  9. It's language indipendent, right? In 98 SE SP is there this update? no, Max_04. UPDATE.SYS is NOT language independent. If you look at the Properties of update.sys on the Version tab and click on Language, it will tell you if it is for a certain Language. if it says "Language Neutral" then it is language independent. in this case, update.sys is NOT language independent. the update.sys patches provided at MDGx's web site are in English. if you can make Italian versions of the updated update.sys files for Win98se/ME, please do so.
  10. Shell32.dll version 5.50.4134.101 does NOT exist, TheOptimizer. Latest version of shell32.dll for WinME that I know of is version 5.50.4134.120
  11. new official releases of Firefox versions 1.5.0.10 and 2.0.0.2 have been posted: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/2.0.0.2/releasenotes/ http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/releases/1.5.0.10.html I'm beta testing firefox 3.0 alpha 2 (aka Gran Paradiso) on my WinXP home ed. machine
  12. Softpedia is not alone in having revolutions pack v3.6. even Majorgeeks.com has the revo v3.6 pack as well. in fact, many download sites have them. philly, do you still have your Win98se CD or Win98se setup files? boot from a Win98se startup disk, load the cd-rom drivers and run win98se setup to re-install Win98se. from now on, philly, obtain the latest revolutions pack at this page: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=58357
  13. I get the same thing on my WinME + IE6 SP1 system with jscript.dll v5.7.0.5730
  14. I think there is, ale5000. but nobody has figured that out yet. i know the Q329048 security update [329048usa8.exe] for Win98/Plus 98 has to check for a certain Plus 98 registry entry for it to install files from the Q329048 update. anyone care to look at the coding of the Win98 Q329048 patch?
  15. not only good device drivers but also reliable hardware. faulty or bad hardware (defective hard drive, cpu or RAM) can also cause BSODs so, philly, it will take MORE than just the 98se SP to fix blue screen errors. the 98se service pack alone will NOT get rid of the blue screen problems completely. you MUST understand that!! and what eidenk meant by "well maintained system" is you install the latest drivers for all your devices, run scandisk and defrag to fix HD errors and optimize performance, upgrade your RAM if your computer doesnt have enough RAM to run large programs, replace bad or faulty hardware and (of course) install the 98se service pack.
  16. I have also tested the Alchemylab.com web site on my WinXP SP2 + IE7 system which had JSCRIPT.DLL version 5.7.0.5730. The site works and does not crash but I get Internet Explorer script error message "Unexpected error (0x80070005)". Click on the yellow exclamation mark (!) on the bottom-left hand corner of IE and the script error message will be displayed. you could try using jscript.dll version 5.7.0.5730 which does register and work under IE6 + Win98/ME. the vm3.exe file wont crash IE but you'll get scripting errors with the Alchemylab.com site eidenk, I think it's more likely the web page coding is faulty. contact the webmaster of the www.alchemylab.com site and have him fix the code on his site.
  17. this should NOT be released as version 4.72.3812.634! GIVE IT A DIFFERENT BUILD NUMBER!! Why not release the "revised" shell32.dll file is 4.72.3812.635? That way, you avoid confusion and users will be able to tell the difference between the changes. When a DLL or any system file is revised, it SHOULD be given a different version or build number.
  18. MDGx, you sent me email on Monday Feb. 19 mentioning about an updated SHELL32.DLL fix for Win98: the link to Shell98.exe has shell32.dll build 634!!! was it a typo?? If the shell32.dll was revised recently, it SHOULD NOT BE RELEASED as version 4.72.3812.634. Give it a different build number like 635 or higher. Do NOT confuse Win98 users this way. If I am going to include this recent shell32.dll file in the next release of the 98fe SP, I'm changing the build number of the DLL file to 635. The current 98fe SP thread has been closed for a few weeks. new releases of the 98fe SP will be mentioned here until I create a new thread for the 98fe SP.
  19. Version 2.61 of Undelete Plus program now released: http://www.undelete-plus.com/download.html
  20. 9x can see only up to 2TB since a FAT32 partition can only go that far. However if you ever had to scan disk on that drive you would be waiting for weeks for it to finish. SO the problem there would be you would need to install a diffrent scan disk tool in replacement of the 98 scandisk. About NT partition I think somebody here already did this on this webpage and is in this section. You need to get the driver files that 2000/XP use to see NTFS. However it can only read not write since there is the issue with files over 4gig. Uh, there are third party tools (such as Sysinternals NTFS for Win9x) that can recognize NTFS volumes under Win9xME systems: http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/NtfsWindows98.exe also, read the NTFS support in Win98se or ME topic: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=39573
  21. yup. Acorp Electronics site is gone for good. the only Acorp site I found is the Russian site which does mention some motherboards: http://www.acorp.ru/products/mb/ but none mentioning the 7KM400QP mobo you could try posting the problem in the Wim's BIOS Forum site: http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/

    Flash 9

that's great. though I wish you made a CPU ugprade to 400Mhz. a 400Mhz Pentium 2 processor (or 400Mhz Pentium Celeron CPU) would be good enough to use a DVD player on your computer. playing DVD videos demand at least that much cpu power. have you updated your computer's BIOS to recognize the 333Mhz CPU, galahs? I think the Flash 9 OCX crashes just happen very few times. try using the Flash 9 Netscape/Mozilla based plugin [NPSWF32.DLL] with Firefox/Seamonkey browsers. they should also work great on your PC.
  23. my sentiments exactly, MDGx! so the REAL cause of MS Money no longer working properly is NOT WinME Defrag. it could be something else (an incorrect or corrupt version of a DLL file) that can make MS Money stop working. just insert your MS Money CD-ROM, swgreed, and re-install the program and it should work as expected. end of story.
  24. yeah I agree
