thanks for the info MDGx, BUT even though some PC monitors do not need "special" drivers like the ones that come in SYS files, you'll still need to use the INF file provided by the monitor's maker if Win98se/WinME and their built-in monitor INF files can not identify the "hardware ID" of your PnP monitor [like in the case of the HP Pavilion MX50 monitor or the Dell M781P monitor I mentioned earlier]. here is the contents of the MX50.INF file of the HP Pavilion MX50 monitor INF file for Win2000 (this INF file will also work for Win95/98/ME): ======================================= ; Mx50.INF ; ; ; This is a Setup information file for monitors ; supported in the Windows 95/98 retail product. ; ; Copyright 2000 HEWLETT PACKARD ; ; Monitors supported by this file: ; 1282 = HP P1282A Pavilion MX50 Multimedia 15-inch Display [Version] signature="$CHICAGO$" Class=Monitor ClassGuid={4D36E96E-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Provider=%HP% Catalogfile=mx50.cat DriverVer=12/05/2000,1.20 [ControlFlags] ExcludeFromSelect.nt=Monitor\HWP0502 ;Monitor class install (required for NT) [ClassInstall32] AddReg=ClassAddReg32 [ClassAddReg32] HKR,,,,%MonitorClassName% HKR,,Icon,,"-1" HKR,,NoInstallClass,,1 [DestinationDirs] DefaultDestDir=11 P1282A.CopyFiles=23 [sourceDisksNames] 1="HP Pavilion Monitor",,, [sourceDisksFiles] HPD04860.ICM=1 ; Manufacturers ;------------------------------------------------- [Manufacturer] %HP%=HP ; Manufacturer sections ;------------------------------------------------- [HP] ; ID 2000 Monitors ;HP Pavilion 15-inch MX50 Multimedia Display: %P1282A%=P1282A.Install, Monitor\HWP0502 ; Install sections ;------------------------------------------------- ; -------------- HP ------------------------------ [P1282A.Install] ;HP P1282A Pavilion MX50 Multimedia 15-inch Display DelReg=DEL_CURRENT_REG AddReg=P1282A.AddReg, 1024, DPMS CopyFiles=P1282A.CopyFiles ; AddReg sections ;------------------------------------------------- [P1282A.AddReg] ;HP P1282A Pavilion MX50 Multimedia 15-inch Display HKR,"MODES\1024,768",Mode1,,"30-54,47-100,+,+" HKR,,ICMProfile,0,"HPD04860.ICM" [P1282A.CopyFiles] HPD04860.ICM ; Common AddReg/DelReg sections ;------------------------------------------------- [DEL_CURRENT_REG] HKR,MODES HKR,,MaxResolution HKR,,DPMS HKR,,ICMProfile [1024] HKR,,MaxResolution,,"1024,768" [DPMS] HKR,,DPMS,,1 ; User visible strings ;------------------------------------------------- [strings] MonitorClassName="Monitor" HP="Hewlett Packard" ;ID 2000 Displays P1282A="hp pavilion mx50" ======================================= what kind of monitors are u using, krick? specify name brand and model of the monitors.

bummer thankx Petr. looks like all msvbvm60.dll fixes have been dropped by MS. not sure if there'll be a newer version of msvbvm60.dll file included in windows vista note to the_guy: new version of ROOTSUPD.EXE released now 234KB in size with updated Root Certificate files. See this thread & download the latest version of the Root Certificates update: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=81676

98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
erpdude8 replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
MDGx, I wonder if the author of U912919/U918547 would be interested in patching the GDI32.DLL file for Windows NT4 SP6 and fix the WMF security flaws (and release GDI32.DLL as v4.00.1381.7271)? I'd been wondering if it'll be patched at all. -
Windows 95/98 First Edition + WMP 9
erpdude8 replied to galahs's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
yup. same thing with beta 2 and RC1 releases of Firefox 2.0, both of them crash under Win95 when attempting to load them. beta 1 of firefox 2 does work correctly under win95. win95 users should stick with using media player 7.1. -
Bad news for Win95 users: Firefox 2.0 beta 2 and RC1 are incompatible under Win95 as FF 2.0 B2 and FF 2.0 RC1 crash at startup. problem is noted here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=353537 however, Firefox 2.0 beta 1 does work correctly under Win95.

LLXX, have you tried out the Copy2GB patches listed at these MDGx pages: http://www.mdgx.com/files/COPY2GB.EXE http://www.mdgx.com/files/C2GBME.EXE

98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
erpdude8 replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
are u sure? if you have IE918899 or any other IE6 SP1 patch that has newer mshtml.dll files than the one found in the 834158 patch, you need to un-install it. My guess is that you have an IE patch with a version of mshtml.dll file higher than 6.0.2800.1443 installed which is preventing the installation of the 834158 patch. Restore the mshtml.dll file to version 6.00.2800.1106 and then try installing the 834158 patch. the 834158 patch is really the "Web Page Print Errors MSHTML.DLL + SHDOCLC.DLL 6.00.2800.1443 Fix" which MDGx should rename the patch that way. -
ah, shut up, eidenk!

Windows 95/98 First Edition + WMP 9
erpdude8 replied to galahs's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
you were right, Steven_W. WMP9 IS incompatible with Win95 as I've just tested using the modified control.xml file and setup_wm.exe (v9.0) told me I'm using an old OS and should upgrade and then setup_wm.exe crashed (and this is on a Win95 OSR2 PC w/out the IE desktop update). I even used the older setup_wm.exe file from the SETUP_WM.ZIP file and the modified control.xml file (and EVEN galah's registry hacks to trick the setup_wm.exe program into thinking Win95 SR2 was Win98 SE) and still did not work. so MDGx, make note that these tips will NOT make Media Player 9 install under Win95 & NT4. It looks like Media Player 7.1 is the last version Win95 users CAN install with version 7.0 of the setup_wm.exe file. you CAN install Media Player 7.1 under Win95 and WinNT4 but by using version 7.0 of the setup_wm.exe file to do so. just do NOT install the Adaptec CD-Burning applet bundled in WMP 7.1 under NT4. the CD-burning feature uses VXD files that are worthless and incompatible with NT4 and was meant for Win9xME systems. -
I seems that all of KB832584, KB888617, KB899282 fixes are no longer available. Petr KB899282 not available anymore? wasnt it released last year? bummer. can you try requesting the KB888617 Msvbvm60.dll v6.0.97.86 hotfix instead? or the KB832584 hotfix if KB888617 is not available?

Sun Java and Flash Player Don't Mix
erpdude8 replied to bearsowner's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
for those using Win95 or a less powerful PC with a slower CPU and less RAM, Java 2 Standard Edition v1.3.1 build 19 [1.3.1_19] is out: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/download.html -
HAH, that proves my point. ndis.vxd v4.00.1114 alone didnt fix the "protection error", especially when running Win95 OSR2 on an AMD-processor based machine with very high speed AMD CPU. jimmsta, see if you can install the AMDK6UPD.EXE patch your Win95 SR2 on your VMWare server and then install 4.00.1114 of the ndis.vxd file to see if the "protection error" message goes away. can you post this in another download site like Rapidupload.com or MyTempdir.com, Tihiy? I HATE DOWNLOADING STUFF FROM RAPIDSHARE!!!! I now consider the Rapidshare site a POOR choice to download files unless users have paid for a premium account there.

The Copy2Gb fix by LLXX was later revised by an anonymous author and updated the KERNEL32.DLL file for Win98se to version 4.10.2226. latest version of the Copy2GB fix will be included in the next release along with the revised U891711 patch that now has KB891711.EXE version 4.10.2227.

Windows 95/98 First Edition + WMP 9
erpdude8 replied to galahs's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Windows 2000 SP4 included updates (including a newer release of mplayer2.exe) for WMP 6.4 under Win2k. -
4.00.950B is OSR2! It's OSR2.0 or 2.1. OSR 2.5 probably would be this or similar to 4.00.950C. try installing the AMD-K6-2 patch (AMDK6UPD.EXE) under Win95 OSR2.0, OSR2.1 or OSR2.5 and then use version 4.00.1114 of the NDIS.VXD file on your AMD system. Version 4.03.1213 of NTKERN.VXD is included in the AMDK6UPD.EXE patch found here.

try searching for one of Win98se's setup CAB files at Google or Yahoo [ex. WIN98_23.CAB, or PRECOPY1.CAB]
-
all right, for people who are really desperate of getting the Win98 SE setup files and can't buy the Win98se CD online (and since Win98se is no longer supported by MS effective July 11, 2006), email me or send me a PM message and I will give you a list of sites of where you can download the actual setup files for Win98se. I won't mention the sites on this forum. I think LLXX and Eck made good points that 98se CDs are no longer being sold.

98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
erpdude8 replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
Only the Q313829 shell32.dll patch will work under Win95/NT4 + Active Desktop Update, and Win98 FE/SE. Shel98se.exe is restricted to Win98 SE only. Note to PROBLEMCHYLD and MDGx: I found the "un-install" problem with COPY2GB.EXE and C2GBME.EXE. They "appear" to un-install BUT I found out the original KERNEL32.DLL file is NOT restored and STILL had the KERNEL32.DLL and KERNEL32.ORI files. Look in the C2GBME.INF, FE.INF and SE.INF files and in the [EU] section, change "KERNEL32.DLL,KERNEL32.ORI,,,4" to "KERNEL32.DLL,KERNEL32.ORI", save changes and repackage the COPY2GB.EXE & C2GBME.EXE files. Now the un-install should work properly and the KERNEL32.ORI file WILL be renamed back to KERNEL32.DLL during un-install. -
98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
erpdude8 replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
try downloading and installing COPY2GB.EXE from MDGx's site again, reboot and then run the un-installer. I think the un-install feature may still be buggy and may not work as expected. About unofficial SHELL32.DLL v4.72.3812.610 patch. It worked fine under Win98se. Now make the shell32.dll v4.72.3812.610 fix work also under Win98 FE and rename to SHELL98.EXE. -
Unofficial Internet Explorer 6 SP1 Updater
erpdude8 replied to the_guy's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
better yet, delete the large number of files from within File Manager instead of Windows Explorer. WinFile does a lot better job of removing large number of files and does it faster and more reliable than in Explorer and will not drain Windows resources. If wonder why PROBLEMCHYLD hasn't tried deleting the large number files from the File Manager [WINFILE.EXE] applet instead of using Windows Explorer. -
is there a way to install IE7 in 98se?
erpdude8 replied to notinthisworld's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
WOW! does the Yahoo Toolbar for IE crash your computer, Tihiy? I installed it under my relative's Win98se PC, my WinME computer and my brother's XP SP2 laptop machine and it works well. haven't found any problems with it! anyway my brother does use the Yahoo Toolbar on IE on his laptop. if I disable or remove the Yahoo Toolbar, he'll get p***ed. so I better not mess with it and he likes it. oh well, it just cant please everyone -
yeah I got that. you have to extract the qdv.dll and qdvd.dll files from the DXNT.CAB file manually onto a Win98 or WinME computer to use those files. since ME's SFP feature protects those two files, I had to use WinKill to shut down STMGR.EXE (the SFP applet) and then extract and overwrite the QDV.DLL & QDVD.DLL files in WinME.

Internet Explorer Critical Vulnerability
erpdude8 replied to Petr's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
IE5.5SP2 uses VGX.DLL 5.50.4133.200 or hotfix version 5.50.4909.1000. IE6.0 uses VGX.DLL 6.00.2600.0000 IE6.0SP1 uses 6.00.2800.1106 (first release), 6.00.2800.1265 (re-release and KB826940), 6.00.2800.1411 (KB833989 security update), 6.00.2800.1461 (KB883586 hotfix), 6.00.2800.1488 (KB890573 hotfix) Original Microsoft VGX fixes install on systems with IE 6.0 SP1 only (6.00.2800.1106-6.00.2800.9999) , I have no idea if the 6.0SP1 version of VGX.DLL can be used with IE6.0 or IE5.5SP2. Petr i think the unofficial IE925486 patch listed at MDGx's IE page should be revised to work under IE 5.5 as well if v6.00.2800.1580 of the vgx.dll file works under IE 5.5 original, SP1 & SP2. -
dont make one, the_guy (at least not yet). Q872901 & Q836880 are included in the DXNT.CAB file of DirectX 9.0c Redist package. I have yet to test Q895181.
