  1. forget it, SU182. You're pretty much out of luck. If Sony only provides the ENX-26 drivers for XP, they're for XP ONLY and NOT for other versions of Windows. You'll have to upgrade to Windows XP to use the ENX-26 card (I blame Sony for this for not providing drivers for other versions of Windows; if they did, they were kinda hard to get) but even if you used the right drivers for the ENX-26 card under WinXP, you still may have some problems if you do NOT have the GigaPocket software installed for the ENX-26 card. see these threads: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/223993 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/361241 nope. that will not make your ENX-26 card work under ME; that may destroy your OS and possibly your computer if sony designed this device and the driver to work only under XP, then you are better off using winxp instead of using an unsupported OS
  2. better off making a Windows ME CD. just do NOT include the msbatch.inf and msbatch.xpr files if you want to perform a custom install of WinME on another computer.
  3. There are machines that do work well with Windows ME, it seems. You are absolutely right on that, BenoitRen. My brother got an HP Pavilion computer with pre-installed WinME back in high school when he joined a computer club (now I own his HP computer and still using WinME; still worked great with very few crashes). usually, computers that bundled WinME back in late 2000 or early 2001 work well. installing the WinME upgrade on an older machine made earlier than 2000, that might be a different story
  4. sorry, SU182, not going to happen. if that were possible, there would be a bunch of 3rd party drivers that would add more bloat to the SP
  5. Dr Hoiby did had some instructions on how to modify the Win98 SE version of Explorer.exe in Dutch but had no info about changing the Dutch Explorer.exe file for Win95. not sure why Dr Hoiby forgot to mention the Dutch versions of Explorer.exe for Win95
  6. Firefox 2.0.0.3 can be removed by double-clicking on the HELPER.EXE file from the \Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\uninstall\ folder instead of doing it from Add/Remove programs Games from the MSN Gaming Zone? try re-installing them and then un-install them.
  7. all right people. settle down, get over this 9x vs. NT mess and let's go back to the original topic about the win95b shell component.
  8. what version of Firefox? If you're trying to remove Firefox 1.5.x under Win98se, please read this Bugzilla thread: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=338752 Firefox versions 1.5.0.2 to 1.5.0.11 (and the upcoming 1.5.0.12) have buggy uninstallers for Win9xME systems and simply do nothing; had to use Ctrl+Alt+Del to shut down the uninstal.exe file for Firefox 1.5.x under Win98/ME for Firefox 2.0, the uninstaller should work under Win98/ME also, what kind of games are you trying to remove?
  9. too bad windows 3.x can't use long filenames unless there's a 3rd party util that can allow that
  10. what programs are you trying to uninstall?
  11. if you save your passwords, they are stored in a PWL file. if you don't save your passwords, no PWL file will be created. read these MS articles: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/148925 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/152104 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/140709
  12. make a registry change in RegEdit and change it from 4.10.2222 B to 4.10.2222 A and retry the 98se service pack.
  13. restore the oleaut32.dll file from your Win98se setup files using SFC and restart the computer
  14. we're drifting a little off topic but can you see the hibernate feature in your Win95 machine in the Power Management control panel applet? AND what kinds of third party software are you refering to, no1none (name them here as proof you know what you are talking about). not everyone owns an IBM Aptiva or IBM Thinkpad computer. I prefer the OS hibernation feature included in Win2k/ME/XP so that I dont rely on 3rd party soft to use hibernation AND the hibernate option is easily accessible from the Windows Shut Down menu or from the Power Management control panel box. Many modern PCs both desktop and laptop can use hibernation via a OS only in IBM Aptiva & IBM laptop BIOSes. Back then, NEC, HP, Compaq or other brand name desktop computers did NOT have the hibernation option in their BIOSes (laptop PCs from NEC, HP, Toshiba, Compaq, etc. may have either hibernate in laptop BIOS or bundled hibernate utility). only BIOS option was Sleep/Suspend in those desktop machines which was not as powerful as hibernate after Win2000, ME, XP and Vista were released, the hibernate option became widely available to newly manufactured ACPI-based desktop and laptop computers and no longer required special hibernate utilities because hibernate was built-in these Windows OSes Look at the definition of Hibernate (OS Feature) at the Wikipedia site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibernate_%28OS_feature%29 Also read about the hibernate power management feature at the EnergyStar site: http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=power_mgt.pr_pm_faq "Hibernate" from ComputerHope: http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/h/hibernat.htm and check out this thread here: http://www.resellerratings.com/forum/showt...3618&page=2
  15. if Toggle Images.exe is there, click on it to make IE automatically load the images. SU182, try visiting the Google.com and Yahoo.com sites to see if the images load in IE. BTW - what release of IE are u using? Click on Help and select About Internet Explorer from the IE Menu Bar. latest release of IE 5.5 is 5.5 SP2 version 5.50.4807.2300 If the images are Flash-based, install the Flash Player ActiveX control for Internet Explorer

    Flash 9

I no longer have any crashes with Flash 9 after updating it to version 9.0.45. AND I'm using a 1.2Ghz Pentium 3 CPU with 384Mb of RAM
  17. erpdude8

    Flash 9

Ditch Flash player 9.0.28 and upgrade to version 9.0.45. I no longer experience any crashes with this updated release whether I use IE or non-IE browsers
  18. I had this problem with my aunt's Dell Optiplex GX100 desktop computer that has an ACPI mobo and BIOS. I put Win98 SE on there and no hibernate option was available. However, after I upgraded the OS to WinME, the Dell computer can now use hibernate. It's a Win98 OS limitation myelin, if you really want to take advantage of the hibernation feature on your desktop computer, upgrade to win2000, winme, xp or vista. Also, your Dell computer MUST have ACPI power management support (look for Advanced Configuration and Power Interface BIOS and ACPI related stuff in Device Manager; if ACPI is not listed in Device Manager, you won't get the hibernation option). go to BIOS setup and check to see if ACPI is turned on and then install either of the Windows OS I mentioned.
  19. It doesn't have to be a laptop; in short - hibernation is a process of dumping current content of volatile memory (RAM) to harddisk (edit: or any other means of data storage without power) before shutting down computer, and restoring this content to RAM upon reboot. Any computer can do that, but the problem is with OS - it must be pointed to the harddisk-stored RAM content at startup, and thats where 3rd-party software comes handy for deficiencies of old Windows OSes. There was no hibernation support for desktop machines until Windows 2000, ME, XP & Vista came along. Read this thread. I've discussed about hibernation and win98se here: http://www.msfn.org/board/Hibernate_Option_98se_t40877.html Hibernation in Win98fe/se is only possible on laptop computers. dont bother making Win98fe/se to use hibernation under desktop PCs. the standby option is the best power management option for desktop PCs using Win98
  20. Ignore BenoitRen's advice if you plan to keep on using IE, SU182 (Benny Boy's an IE hater) what version of IE are you using SU182 and what web sites are you encountering this problem.
  21. note that MS released an updated version of the MS Office 2007 compatibility pack on April 20. If you downloaded and installed the Office 2007 compatibility pack before april 20, uninstall the old one and download & install the new version.
  22. well said briton and Eck. any word from the creator of Enable48BitLBA, lately?
  23. what do you mean, SU182! the ME service pack usually contains bug fixes to ME. be more specific. improved driver support for what hardware???
  24. I'll be sending it shorty today.
  25. many but not all of the wmp9 dlls are build 3250 from xp sp2. the setup_wm.exe file build 3250 is not included in the wmp9 update rollup as that version doesn't work under win98/me so I stuck with build 2980 of that file.
