and for those users having the SVCHOST/MSI/WU problem, install version 3.0 of the Windows Update Agent here: http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windo...Agent30-x86.exe also try deleting the %WINDIR%\SoftwareDistribution folder and let Windows Update re-create the folder from scratch.

though FoxItReader 1.3 can view PDF files faster than Acrobat Reader 5. Foxitreader is still much smaller and faster than ANY version of Acrobat Reader, even when using Foxitreader on slow computers. do yourself a favor, BenoitRen, get rid of Acrobat Reader 5.x and get FoxitReader 1.3 here. Foxitreader 1.3 is the last version supported under Win95 & NT4. Foxitreader 2 works only under Win98, 2000 and higher thanks for posting up the ME Regedit files, MDGx. wish there was someway to thank Tihiy for making the modified WinME Regedit file now that he hasn't been heard of for a while

Does Windows 98 SE have a limit on processor speed?
erpdude8 replied to EGOvoruhk's topic in Windows 9x/ME
not quite correct, awergh. The patch is for Win98 FE ONLY. There is NO Win95 patch. The Resolution section in MS article 312108 now sounds convoluted. I know there was a 98fe hotfix for it but NO 95 hotfix was available. Win98 SE already supports 2.1 GHz & faster CPUs w/out the patch so the problem in MS article 312108 is already resolved in 98se -
missing or corrupted msvbvm50.dll, msvcp50.dll, msvbvm60.dll & msvcp60.dll files perhaps??? also, there could be a software conflict between SkyGrabber and other programs installed on your Win98se computer notfiy the makers of SkyGrabber about the runtime library problem and see if they have a solution

Please help showing Microsoft synthesizer in MIDI devices
erpdude8 replied to Jazzy20's topic in Windows XP
currently there's no way to display the Microsoft Kernel synthesizer option in MIDI devices. some audio devices especially the one I'm using don't use the Microsoft Kernel synthesizer nor they support it. it depends on what programs you are using the Microsoft Kernel synthesizer for -
Microsoft has posted a revised KB927891 patch for XP SP2. If you installed an older KB927891 patch, remove it and install the newly revised edition which is now V3 of KB927891 for XP SP2. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891/en-us

Please install the Windows Vista KB936824 Update from this site, which should permanently resolve the iPod Ejection problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936824/en-us it was basically a bug in the Vista OS which it couldn't handle iPods properly, especially when attempting to disconnect them from Vista

yeah I kinda figured that out. The Nero 7 software is also incompatible with Win9x/ME/NT4. The Hardware Info (HWINFO.EXE) tool didn't detect all the hardware info on my HP Pavilion PC. some hardware were reported as blank or unknown

Newer versions of Nero InfoTool (v4.1.0.4 and above) are included in the Nero 7 Ultra Edition updates. version 4.1.0.8 of Infotool was the first version that was compatible with Windows Vista. see Nero InfoTool release notes page for the newer versions: http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/RN_details.html?Nero_InfoTool

here's a solution that works, plonkeroo. Boot into PURE DOS mode, delete the MSI.DLL file from the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ folder (you can NOT delete the MSI.DLL file in Win98se because 98se will NOT let you), load Win98se and install/re-install Windows Installer 2.0. remember, some MSI packages require MSI 2.0, NOT MSI 1.x

Generic 98 USB driver for memory sticks on 98se WORKS
erpdude8 replied to Molecule's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Molecule, you can also download DCOM 98 for Windows 98 SE here from the Microsoft downloads page: http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/1...8a51/DCOM98.EXE this one has DCOM version 4.71.3328. also, update the OLEAUT32.DLL file to version 2.40.4522 by installing MDGx's unofficial OLE Automation 2.40.4528 patch here: http://www.mdgx.com/files/OLEUP.EXE -
download the whole win2000 sp4 package. it's available at the MS download center: [MS Download site] the SP4 is about 130Mb in size. those who have broadband internet connections can get it in less than an hour View the W2KSP4_EN.EXE package in Winzip or any other archiving utility, extract the regsvr32.ex_ file, view the regsvr32.ex_ file and then extract the regsvr32.exe file inside. or if you don't want to do all that I can send you the regsvr32.exe file from the Win2k SP4 pack as I have a copy of the full Win2k SP4 pack (NOT on CD but a full download of SP4) version of regsvr32.exe file from Win2000 SP4 is 5.00.2195.6662

I think you mean REGSVR32.EXE, NOT Regsrvr32.exe!

only way is to re-install ALL your programs (even if they are already installed) so that they will be listed in Add/Remove programs

Service pack for Windows 98 Standard (First, Gold)
erpdude8 replied to Petr's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
I'm now putting the Windows 98 Standard Service Pack project on hold until the fall season as I won't be releasing anymore future SPs right now. -
you'll also need a CD burning program like Nero Burning ROM to use your IO Magic MagicSpin USB CD Burner. use either version 6.6 or 7.0 of Nero I also assume the burner is NOT an internal IDE based CD burner and it's an external USB 2.0 burner. Obtain the drivers at the IOMagic Drivers page: http://www.iomagic.com/Products/driver_search.asp

as I said before, the link that points to the Rapidshare site from MDGx's site has stopped working since Rapidshare removed the 4.90.3000 Regedit files. using FoxitReader instead of Adobe Acrobat Reader is a better alternative and is lightweight, loads MUCH faster than Adobe Reader and uses much less disk space and uses few registry entries. If any of you guys have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your machines, DUMP THE PROGRAM and get FoxitReader if you just want to view PDF files. I'm getting rid of Adobe's bloated Acrobat Reader program on all of my computers and installing FoxitReader on those that don't have FoxitReader. I'll try to send MDGx version 4.90.3000 of the modified REGEDIT.EXE file Tihiy made sometime today
-
there are TWO fixed REGEDIT.EXE files. One from the site MDGx mentions and the one Tihiy made a few years ago (it was a modified ME Regedit.exe file that can work under Win98) The WinME Regedit.exe file has a Favorites option and the ability to memorize what registry key that was last edited after exiting RegEdit. The 4.90.3000 Regedit.exe file is no longer available from the RapidShare site (I'll have to tell MDGx about this and send him the 4.90.3000 RegEdit package) Replace the Regedit.exe file with either of the "fixed" regedit.exe files. There's a TweakUI option on the Repair tab that allows you to Repair RegEdit. not sure if that'll work.

Yes, you can activsate it through 'my controls' I can use it in other forums, just not this one. Maybe an option wasn't selected in the Admin CP. the_guy same here, the_guy. I too do not have the Fast Reply option in the ME service pack thread. well, I've figured out what device SU182 was trying to install under WinME when I looked at other threads he was on (it wasn't necessary for me to guess what kind of device he uses; better off if he'd mentioned it here too as I don't mind if he specifies the device in multiple threads). the device (made by Sony) was incompatible with WinME as they didn't make any Win98/ME drivers for it and attempted to install the XP driver of the device under WinME and failed.

98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
erpdude8 replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
Java 5.0 may be compatible only with Win98 SE. Not sure about Win98 FE. See Java 5.0 System Config page: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/system-configurations.html Java 5.0 Update 12 now available <make a note of this MDGx> wow, I spent almost 4 weeks trying to fix my cousin's eMachine computer [if you do Google or Yahoo searches about emachine+defects you'll realize that emachines had a history of defective computers or computer parts]. I finally got it to work, changed the PSU (power supply unit) and hard drive. -
it wasn't really a bug. it's more like the Sony ENX-26 driver is referencing a function that doesn't exist in W9xME systems that does exist in WinXP. I think this driver is created with the newer WDF (Windows Driver Foundation) standard and NOT the WDM standard. Drivers created in the WDF standard are no longer compatible with Win9xME systems and only function under Win2000/XP/2003/Vista. SU182 is basically out of luck when attempting to use this device under WinME and should use XP [and why use WinME? Win98/ME supported FEW TV Tuner cards and WinXP MCE (media center edition) can handle a wide variety if TV tuner devices such as the Sony ENX-26 TV tuner card] Wikipedia's definition of Windows Driver Model: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Driver_Model Wikipedia's definition of Windows Driver Foundation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Driver_Foundation many graphics/video/tv tuner drivers were NOT covered by the WDM standard. Take the Intel 810 and Intel 852 graphics drivers, for example. These drivers STILL had to use a DRV/VXD driver for Win95/98/ME and SYS driver for Win2000/XP/2003

more like a misunderstanding but don't do this kind of "humor" again, randiroo76073. you don't want to get on my bad side. Your joke was NOT funny at all! believe it or not, the GDI+ DLL file does work under Win95. some users claim it works under Win95; see here.

thanks for the heads up, BenoitRen. I've changed the link to the Win95 OSR2 FAQ page. Sean Erwin's OSR2 FAQ had very useful info about versions B and C of Win95 Win95B or Win95C was also useful on IBM Aptiva machines. anyone who owned an IBM Aptiva computer with pre-installed Win95 SR2.x is very lucky, especially when using the Rapid Resume power management feature which is similar to the hibernation feature found in most modern computers. Alice has a page about IBM Aptiva machines here. BTW - The final release of K-Meleon 1.1 is out, along with Opera 9.21.
