  1. ouch. you may have to re-install your Arabic Win98 FE install from your Win98 FE CD, VISTA98 after deleting the entire Windows folder from your HD. Boot from a Win98fe boot disk, load the CDROM drivers, DELETE the entire WINDOWS folder from your HD by using DELTREE, and run Win98 setup from the CD and re-install Win98fe. well, that's kinda your fault. you were aware of the dangers but you went for it anyway. no one to blame but yourself you'll need to delete the WINDOWS folder from your hard drive and re-install Win98 from your CD The Win98fe SP 2.08 was NOT designed for use for Win98 in non-English languages
  2. There are reg entries to do this, swgreed. it's something like this: HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{32b1db33-27b9-43b7-8904-d5352decc292}",,,"Windows 98 KB891711 Update" HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{32b1db33-27b9-43b7-8904-d5352decc292}","IsInstalled",0x10001,01,00,00,00 HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{32b1db33-27b9-43b7-8904-d5352decc292}","Locale",,"DE" HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{32b1db33-27b9-43b7-8904-d5352decc292}","Version",,"4.10.0.2222" Ask MDGx on how to add the registry entries for 891711. get the reg entries from the 891711.INF file of the windows98-kb891711-v2-deu.exe patch.
  3. So? That would mean that it would actually be easier to find the spot that needs a check for the return value of USER32.DLL! as the anonymous author said: See! It is not as simple as that, Benoitren. I assume the anonymous author who made the new 891711 patch for Win98se uses a Win98 SE system and has no time to look at the Win95 code of user32.dll <hey, we wont force the author to check the user32 code for Win95; he's probably busy right now with more important things> Plus there are other versions of USER32.DLL for Win95! There's a version 4.01.971 of user32.dll bundled inside the MS Active Accessibility 1.3 addon for Win95 which adds MSAA support to Win95. MSAA support is somewhat essential to Win95 users who have vision problems. but then again, can YOU, BenoitRen, try to patch the user32.dll files yourself, if you have the necessary skills and tools to do so (if the anonymous author is unable to patch the user32 files for win95)?
  4. I said this before about WindizUpdate elsewhere. It sucked! It got bad reviews here: http://windowssecrets.com/comp/060629/ I've found most of the problems with beta 8 of the ME service pack and they lie in the INF files. I can fix those easily and send the_guy the revised INF files when I have the time. TZ.EXE included in the SP didnt work because it was never executed. The INF files try to execute sections that dont exist so I have to rename them. Better include the newest Q931836.exe patch MDGx released for updating time zone registry info instead of using TZ.EXE.
  5. nice find. does the creator of the 1.76Mb Floppy Disk driver have drivers for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista?
  6. It would be nice if the anonymous author would patch the user files for WinME (maybe release it as 4.90.3003). Let's give him a lot of time for him to work on it.
  7. highly unlikely to patch win95 user32 files. most of the win95 DLL files like gdi32.dll, kernel32.dll & user32.dll are missing too many functions that are featured in win98/me's core DLL files besides, the anonymous author hasn't patched the Win98fe and WinME user32 files yet.
  8. MDGx, ask the anonymous author if he has time to patch the USER.EXE & USER32.DLL files for Win98 FE and WinME and implement the MS07-017 security fixes into Win98fe & WinME. I like to dump the U891711 TSR files on my Win98fe and WinME machines and use the updated user.exe/user32.dll files for these OSes. minor correction: change the version number to 10.2.0.022. Adobe has released Shockwave Player 10.2.0.022 in early May. same direct download link. For Adobe Flash Players versions 7 and 8- Flash Player 8.0.34.0 (debug and release versions): http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashpl..._flash8_win.zip Flash Player 7.0.69.0 (debug and release versions): http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashpl..._mx2004_win.zip
  9. Success! The NUSB 3.1 drivers worked on my cousin's Win98se PC. It can now recognize the IOMagic 7-in-1 USB Multicard Reader, though I had to specify the USBSTOR.INF file which was in the \WINDOWS\INF\ folder of Win98se during the Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box. Will try to test the NUSB 3.1 drivers and the IOMagic USB Multicard Reader device on my aunt's Win98 FE laptop.
  10. This almost never works for me with CD-R's. I am using nero 5.5.9.17, the check box for multisession is grayed out. I believe this also happens with me on nero 6.0.0.9. Do you mean crossover cable? I think your right, but i'd rather not waste my money and buy one. With some effort, can't you change a straight cable to crossover and back again? And yes, i've heard of CD-RW's and those are the expensive discs. Luckily, i found a few, so i'm using one of them now. seskanda, update your nero apps. latest Nero 5.5 release is 5.5.10.56 and the latest Nero 6 release is 6.6.1.15. also buy CD-RWs as multisession CDs work best with CD-rewriteable discs. hopefully your CD burner can use CD-RWs, otherwise, upgrade your CD burner that supports rewritable CDs/DVDs.
  11. usually the Win98 first edition setup files are stored in the \WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS\ folder of your Compaq PC. my cousin used to own an old Compaq Presario computer with pre-installed Win98 FE but gave it away to his relatives. I'm wondering if the NUSB drivers (latest release) can work with Generic Storage Device Rev. 9317 devices under Win98 (all editions). I know WinME and WinXP provide generic drivers for my IOMagic Multicard Reader which detect the drives as Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device (under XP). This is the hardware ID listed in Device Manager: USBSTOR\Disk&Ven_Generic&Prod_STORAGE_DEVICE&Rev_9317 <WinME listed the IOMagic Multicard Reader USB drives as "Generic STORAGE DEVICE"> I'll try the NUSB 3.1 drivers out on my relative's Win98SE computer. but at least the USB Floppy drive feature built-in the Multicard Reader Device (which is detected as a Mitsumi USB floppy drive) works with the manufacturer's drivers.
  12. jcarle and sam13484, The KB931836 updates for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 replace the KB928388 and KB929120 updates. So the latest update is KB931836. No need to install the older Timezone patches. Also, a Windows 2000 version of the KB931836 update is available but Win2000 users will need to ask Microsoft support for it. MDGx has a copy of the Win2k KB931836 patch here: http://www.mdgx.com/files/2K931836.EXE Not sure why MS has to require Win2k users to contact them for it instead of making it publicly available. geez.

    Flash 9

hey galahs! Adobe has just released a new version of the Flash 9 player. It's now version 9.0.45.0. Go here if you use Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox/Seamonkey/Opera/Kmeleon: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/in...rsion=Netscape6 If you use Internet Explorer, Avant or Maxthon browser, go here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/do...=ShockwaveFlash hopefully this release should fix some of the crashes found in the previous build.
  14. never mind. I've downloaded some editions of the Q243450 ESDI_506.PDR patch in different languages and the updated ESDI_506.PDR files are in English. woodpusher noted in the Enable48BitLBA thread that LLXX's ESDI_506.PDR patches seem to be language independent, even though the updated ESDI_506.PDR file is in English.
  15. Also, rloew, the latest version of the ESDI_506.PDR file for Windows 95 OSR2 is version 4.00.1119 which is mentioned in MS article 175629: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/175629/en-us The Q175629 hotfix for Win95 SR2 replaces REMIDEUP.EXE and also fixes the Large IDE Hard Disk MSDOS Compatibility mode problem. Hopefully your High Capacity Disk Patch software should still function properly with version 4.00.1119 of the ESDI_506.PDR file. See if you can mention this info about Q175629 and version 4.00.1119 of the ESDI_506.PDR file on your page. I've obtained the Q175629 hotfix for Win95 OSR2 from MS more than a year ago and have applied the Q175629 fix on an old Win95 SR2 machine.
  16. Looks like you're right, woodpusher. LLXX's ESDI_506.PDR drivers ARE language independent. why have you NOT applied the German Q243450 esdi_506.pdr patch before installing LLXX's esdi_506.pdr patch for Win98se? Get it here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/win.../243450GER8.EXE This updates ESDI_506.PDR to version 4.10.2225. good thing LLXX's esdi_506.pdr patches backup the existing esdi_506.pdr before replacing the existing file with the 48bit LBA-enabled version.
  17. nice work, soporific. can you also make one for turning on DMA access for CD/DVD drives? i know for sure win98fe, win98se and win95 osr2 does not automatically turn on the DMA option for BOTH hard drives AND CD/DVD drives
  18. even Rudolph Loew's High Capacity Disk Patch software is only provided in English language and has not been localized as well. latest version [5.2] now supports Windows 95 OSR2.
  19. Gran Paradiso [Firefox 3] alpha 3 now available: http://developer.mozilla.org/devnews/index...e-for-download/
  20. MDGx and Max_04: can we try to translate LLXX's 48bit LBA ESDI_506.PDR patches into Italian and/or some other languages? there was one person who was using German Win98 SE who want to install the 48bit LBA ESDI_506.PDR fix but the ESDI_506.PDR fix is in English, not in German. see latest page of the Enable48BitLBA thread. also can you make an unofficial DHTMLED.OCX 6.1.0.9242 KB906216 fix for Win98fe/98se/ME? The file seems to work correctly under Win98/ME.
  21. unfortunately, woodpusher, LLXX's 48bit LBA ESDI_506.PDR patches are for US English editions of Win98fe/98se/ME only and not available for other languages such as German. the creator had no time (and no commitment) of making them available for different languages, so "localization" of the 48bit LBA ESDI_506.PDR patches was completely out of the question. if there are people out there who can translate LLXX's ESDI_506.PDR patches from English into other langauges, feel free to do so.
  22. great MDGx. I would highly recommend using your Q931836 DST patch instead of the Unofficial DST patch listed at the IntelliAdmin.com web site whom the author claims the DST feature is "broken" and does not work correctly under Win95. I find him DEAD WRONG on that.
  23. I have tested out beta 8 of the ME service pack on my relative's WinME computer. Most of the parts work as expected but the ME SP did NOT execute the stuff from the RUNPOST.BAT file. I found out why. In the [RunPostCommands.Section] of the SPUPD3-INF file, RUNPOST was listed as RUNPOST.EXE (whoops!). Change this to RUNPOST.BAT. We also need to make some changes to some of the INF files to make the ME SP work close to flawlessly. One part I see is in the SPUPDATE.INF file and in the [RPCS] section, change the following from this: --- [RPCS] rundll32 ADVPACK.DLL,LaunchINFSection SPUPD-2.INF,DI --- to this: --- [RPCS] rundll32 ADVPACK.DLL,LaunchINFSection SPUPD-2.INF,DefaultInstall --- <the DI section does NOT exist in the SPUPD-2.INF file> Since I saw these commands in the RUNPOST.BAT file: --- start /w rundll32 %winbootdir%\system\ADVPACK.DLL,LaunchINFSection PRESERVE.INF,DI start /w rundll32 %winbootdir%\system\ADVPACK.DLL,LaunchINFSection WUINFO.INF,DI start /w rundll32 %winbootdir%\system\ADVPACK.DLL,LaunchINFSection SCR56.INF,DI start /w rundll32 %winbootdir%\system\ADVPACK.DLL,LaunchINFSection QFE.INF,DI start /w rundll32 %winbootdir%\system\ADVPACK.DLL,LaunchINFSection INTLFIX.INF,DI --- let's rename the [DefaultInstall] section of the INTLFIX.INF file to [DI] and the installer will execute the correct section. The PRESERVE.INF, WUINFO.INF, SCR56.INF & QFE.INF files have the [DI] section. Hopefully ALL these changes should be implemented in the next (AND last beta) of the ME service pack.
  24. the updated ESDI_506.PDR driver from the unofficial 48bitLBA patch should be safe to use, even on hard drives less than 128 gigs. i've installed the updated driver on an old 2Gb hard drive and found no problems. btw, woodpusher, what version of Windows are u using?
  25. Does WPI work under a Win98 or WinME machine, Phil? well I've created my own personal version of the unofficial 98se SP, similar to my unofficial 98 1st ed. SP and unofficial osr2 update rollup...but NOT using WPI - btw
