  1. Actually, eidenk, version 5.6.0.8833 of JSCRIPT.DLL has MAJOR flaws. it caused a WinXP crash mentioned here: http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=43986 also, version 5.6.0.8833 of JSCRIPT.DLL is incompatible with Win9x/ME/NT4 OSes. the_guy will remove this version of jscript.dll from the WinME service pack in the upcoming beta. My quote from the ME SP page about jscript.dll v5.6.0.8833- try using version 5.6.0.8832 of JSCRIPT.DLL file, which is mentioned in MS article 919237. build 8832 does work fine under Win9x/ME/NT4.
  2. the shell32.dll v4.72.3812.620 fix was pulled off MDGx's web site after version 4.72.3812.634 was posted. that was more than a month ago. you may want to email MDGx about the older shell32.dll fix, Rick.
  3. You're invited to test it yourself! was it German WinME Defrag or English WinME Defrag, swgreed? check carefully also was MS Money NOT running when you used WinME Defrag under Win98se? I have a version of MS Money which is MS Money 2001 (newer than the 99 edition) which is on the MS Works & Money 2001 CD that came with my HP Pavilion computer. WinME Defrag did NOT break that version of MS Money.
  4. unfortunately, the sad truth is a reality. ACorp has pretty much withdrawn from the motherboard industry and has removed all mobo downloads for it. so now looking for BIOS v1.7 for the 7km400QP mobo is pretty much looking for a needle in a haystack. I read this article from the DigiTimes site that Acorp pulled out of the mobo market due to financial problems: http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20050311B2048.html see if you can use either DriverForum or DriverGuide sites to request 7km400QP BIOS v1.7. perhaps someone out there may have a copy of it. it's a long shot though. the DriverStock web site wasn't updated since 2005 and Acorp vanished in late 2005

    Flash 9

guys, here is the page for Flash Player 9's System Requirements: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/...nfo/systemreqs/ for Windows, a minimum of Pentium II 450Mhz CPU with 128MB of RAM A P2 333Mhz processor isn't fast enough to handle Flash 9, galahs that's why you have to use a P3 500Mhz processor or faster Get Flash Player 8. That might work okay on a 333Mhz CPU. You can download it here: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flash...fp8_archive.zip also, I have experienced occasional FLASH9B.OCX crashes on my WinXP SP2 system with IE7 when browsing the NBA.COM web site. I didn't have this problem with the NPSWF32.dll Flash 9 plugin when using Seamonkey/Firefox/Netscape 8.1.2 browsers. we'll definitely report the Flash 9 OCX problem to Adobe. Let's report it several times until Adobe releases a new version of Flash 9 Player.

    Flash 9

thanks for pointing that out, BenoitRen. Flash Player 7.x is the last one supported under Win95 SR2 systems. Flash 8 and 9 require Win98/NT4 SP6a or higher.
  7. KB925753 Vbscript.dll fix is listed on MDGx's Windows Server 2003 page but the direct download link to it is not working. get 404 File NOT Found error message. tell him to post the correct URL to the patch.
  8. then u should downgrade Windows to Windows 98 SE. Windows ME needs horsepower. 160 megs of RAM AINT good enough for WinME, Chris. Win98se, on the other hand, should work at optimal performance with 160Mb of memory and uses much less system resources than WinME so, the_guy, have you obtained the KB925753 hotfix yet? please email it to me ASAP. I'll include it in the next release of the 98fe SP
  9. Microsoft has just released the MS07-013 RICHED20.DLL security updates: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms07-013.mspx updated riched20.dll file for RichEdit 3.x is now 5.30.23.1227 (if using Office 2000 or Windows 2000; the WinXP edition of MS07-013 has riched20.dll version 5.30.23.1228 while the Win2003 edition has riched20.dll versions 5.30.23.1224 and 5.30.23.1226) updated riched20.dll file for RichEdit 4.0 is now 5.40.11.2220 updated riched20.dll file for Richedit 5.0 is now 5.50.99.2014
  10. actually, awergh, the WinXP/2003/Vista editions of Wordpad CAN open Word 2000/2002-XP DOC files. I'm not sure about the Win98/ME editions of Wordpad. Just need to install the Word 97/2k/XP DOC converters and Wordpad (any edition except the Win95 & NT4 editions which are so weak) might open them. Download and install the Office Converter pack [OCONVPCK.EXE] from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en some Word 2000-specific features may not work in Wordpad but at least you'll be able to open Word 2000 DOC files in Wordpad after installing the Office Converter pack. The Office Converter pack does NOT even require an MS Office program to be installed. Be sure to install Windows Installer 2.0 as the converter pack won't install without Windows Installer.
  11. The WinME version of Wordpad is the same version as the one included in Win98 SE. sorry, JayPea.
  12. MDGx, see if you have time to create these new unofficial security fixes: MS07-008 (HHTCRL.OCX) < include in revised Unofficial HTML Help 1.4 [HHUPD.EXE] update MS07-016 (IE6 SP1 KB928090) - the IE7 edition of KB928090 replaces IE7 KB928089 patch MS07-013 (RICHED20.DLL - use the Office XP edition) < include in revised RICHED9X.EXE and RICHEDNT.EXE patches I'll be creating unofficial MS07-012 MFC patch ONLY for WinNT4 since it only updates MFC40U.DLL and MFC42U.DLL files.
  13. I, too, am ABSOLUTELY 100% sure beyond ANY reasonable doubt that the Win98 Y2K updates are for Win98 FE only and NOT for Win98 SE. Look at the version number of the files included in the two Win98 year 2000 patches, Max_04. They are less than 4.10.2222 and thus, Win98 SE already has ALL Y2K fixes.
  14. Out of curiosity, what is the reason why you put a direct or indirect link to ReactOS in every other post you make? ReactOS is NT oriented, has nothing to do with Win9x/ME. jaclaz REAL pathetic, patchworks! that's being a little immature of you. open source defrags are WAY OFF topic and are vastly irrelevant to the problem swgreed is having here I strongly agree with Tihiy. WinME Defrag (US English edition) worked fine under my Win98FE/SE machines and did NOT break any programs. The Money 99 program might have been broken either during a computer crash or when using Scandisk to delete lost clusters. Pop in your MS Money 99 CD, swgreed, and re-install the Money 99 program to make it work again. also ask the creator of the German 98se SP to remove German WinME defrag from the pack.
  15. unfortunately, the 9x/ME/NT4/2000 link you mentioned contains older Root Certificates. the XP/2003/Vista link contains newer Root Certificates Here's the new one I found in the WindowsUpdate.log file on my WinXP machine: http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdo...64cff75229e.exe I think this one may work under Win9x/ME/2000/NT4. I'll have to test this one to make sure it works.
  16. also, try to include the updated MSASN1.DLL file from the KB891861 post-Win2k SP4 update rollup pack. the MSASN1.DLL file is dated 4/8/2005 and seemed to work okay under my Win98 & WinME computers.
  17. Recently, MS has posted an updated version of the Root Certificates Update here: http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownlo...en/rootsupd.exe This one has a digital signature date of January 15, 2007 and seems to work only under Windows XP, Server 2003 and Vista. Can anyone check to see if this new release of rootsupd.exe works under Windows NT4 and Windows 2000? please post your results here.
  18. the_guy, if you need the RTCERTUP.EXE patch I made, email me and I will send it to you ASAP.
  19. To MDGx, the_guy and everyone else concerned about the new MS Root Certificates Update revised in 2007 and later: I've recently downloaded the newest release of the Root Certificates Update here: http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownlo...en/rootsupd.exe However, this one was revised Jan. 15, 2007 and no longer works under Windows 9x/ME/NT4 systems. Running this new version of ROOTSUPD.EXE displays "the ROOTSUPD.EXE file is expecting a newer version of Windows" message when used on a Win9x/ME/NT4 computer. Versions of ROOTSUPD.EXE revised in 2007 and beyond are only compatible with Windows XP, Server 2003 and Vista systems. I'm not sure if this new ROOTSUPD.EXE patch will work under Windows 2000. The Root Certificates Update is now listed on the V6 Windows Update site when I went there on my WinXP SP2 + IE7 machine. Therefore I've decided to create an unofficial Root Certificates update (I call it the Unofficial Root Certificates 2007 Update) that will work under Windows 9x, ME, 2000 and NT4 systems as long as IE 5.x/6.x is installed. I have sent the unofficial root certificates 2007 patch to MDGx and he'll post it as soon as possible. It'll be called RTCERTUP.EXE.
  20. I'm going to create a new topic about the new roots certificate patch shortly and discuss about it. also please send me (and MDGx) the KB925753 patch.
  21. Version 5.50.4807.2300 of MSIEFTP.DLL file CAN be installed under Win9x/ME/NT4 if you install IE 5.5 SP2 and install the Internet Explorer Browsing Enhancement feature. Look in the IE_EXTRA.CAB file of IE 5.5 SP2. Version 5.50.4807.2300 of the MSIEFTP.DLL file was left out of the IE_EXTRA.CAB file for IE 6.x for Win98/ME/NT4 but included in the IE 6.x setup files for Win2000. soporific, install IE 5.5 SP2 and do a custom install. You need to install the Internet Explorer Browsing Enhancement feature of IE 5.5 SP2 which has version 5.50.4807.2300 of the MSIEFTP.DLL file. If you do not want to install IE 5.5 SP2 (because if you already have IE 6.x installed) get the IE_EXTRA.CAB file of IE 5.5 SP2 here. Extract the MSIEFTP.DLL file from the IE_EXTRA.CAB file onto the \Windows\System\ folder and ovewrite the existing version.
  22. DirectX 4 does not exists. Version 4.09.00.0904 is DirectX 9c. google DirectX Happy Uninstall Microsoft never released DirectX 4, Tihiy. LLXX needs to seriously read ComputerHope's DirectX Help page on the version numbers of DirectX (so that she'll be well educated about this): http://www.computerhope.com/directx.htm apparently, Westislander, you had the wrong version of DDRAW.DLL file when you should have be using the one from DirectX 9.0c. somehow the DDRAW.DLL file was overwritten with an older version. good thing you removed DirectX and re-installed DirectX 9.0c to fix the problem. DirectX Eradicator 2.0 would also do the trick AND it's freeware. DirectX Happy Uninstall is shareware.
  23. It was also like this when installing the Telnet.exe MS99-033 security update for Win95/98. When installing this Telnet.exe update, it showed NO dialog box saying whether the update was successful or not. pcalvert, check the version of t2embed.dll file in the \Windows\System\ folder. if the latest version was installed, then KB908519 worked.
  24. no it should not delete your personal stuff, avalanch. some registry settings may be lost when upgrading from Win98FE to Win98 SE but your all your personal files should be left intact. you may need to re-install Windows Installer 2.0 after upgrading to Win98 2nd edition. forget about the Windows Installer KB884016 update, avalanch. KB884016 includes Windows Installer 3.0 which requires Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 or 4, Windows XP original or Service Pack 1 or the original version of Windows Server 2003. It won't even install under Windows NT4. Windows Installer 2.0 is the last version that works under Windows 95/98/ME/NT4. note to endeavor: KB884016 is replaced by KB893803 which has Windows Installer 3.1.
  25. I've already answered this question:extract PCHEALTH.INF from WinME setup CD and then open it in Notepad to see the list of files. HTH thanks for the answer MDGx. but do those ME system restore files mentioned in the pchealth.inf file actually work under Win98se? that's the $1 million dollar question
