  1. hey everyone. I'm back from jury duty. what a weird way to start off year 2007 by doing jury duty! note to Drugwash and soporific: download the updated COPY2GB.EXE file from MDGx's web site. The install/uninstall problems have been fixed. The C2GBME.EXE kernel32.dll fix for WinME will need to be revised again to include the START.EXE file (and a "START /W NIRCMD" string in the C2GBME.INF file). I was not sure if the NIRCMD.EXE file was executed on older & current releases of C2GBME.EXE. perhaps many instances of NIRCMD were executed too quickly.
  2. hey everyone. I'm back from jury duty. what an unusual way to start off year 2007 - jury duty! I'm not sure what ever happened to WebMatze, glocK_94. anyone tried to contact Matze recently?
  3. Also I wanted to bring up this point, that since IE6 installed on W2000 or WXP for me takes the same 15 seconds on the same 2500 file delete process spoken of above, then one has to logically conclude that this issue is not an IE6 issue within itself, but only with how they modified it to work within Win9x; and so since we know that just swapping to the v5 browseui.dll on IE6 9x duplicates the exact same normal delete times as IE6x on 2K/XP, then it would be great if it was in some way possible to appropriately/safely rework the v6 Browseui.dll for Win9x to do its function properly, while leaving the normal delete times on Win9x alone. In combination this would make the ultimate shell32.dll fix! let's remember Rick, that IE6 does not run under Win95. IE6 runs only under Win98 & ME. some people interpret "Win9x" as Win95/98/ME. so Win95 users are exempt from this deletion of large number of files problem; highest version of IE used under W95 is IE 5.5
  4. scratch that. I've just revised the C2GBME.INF, COPY2GB.INF, FE.INF & SE.INF files to deal with this problem. I'll send you the updated INF files. the updated KERNEL32.DLL files will now be copied as KERNEL32.NEW to the Windows\System folder and the INF files will make WININIT rename the old kernel file [from kernel32.dll to kernel32.ori] and WININIT will also rename the new kernel file [from kernel32.new to kernel32.dll] - all this according to the revised INF files. this will ensure the old kernel file gets renamed AND the new kernel file gets renamed from kernel32.new extension to kernel32.dll, even when re-installing the Copy2Gb Kernel32.dll fixes
  5. need the Dutch edition of the Win95 Y2K update? get it here.
  6. That's not how the font folder should look like. It seems that it is broken and turned into a normal folder. You have another option missing too, the similarity button. MS TweakUI has a option to repair the font folder, you can download TweakUI here if you don't have it yet. http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm I believe the FONTS folder lost the System attribute. Open File Manager, click on the Windows\Fonts folder, click Properties from the File menu. check the System file attribute and click OK. that should also fix the problem.
  7. what kind of scanner do you use, BenoitRen? name the brand and model. same here with WiFi. not necessary for me either. I mentioned in the Win98se SP forum Marius '95 also uses Win95. so you're not alone in this forum
  8. When installing any version of Win95 (especially the OSR2 versions) I prefer using ProductType=1 setting in the SETUPPP.INF file. that prevents Win95 setup from asking for a Product ID. I read this somewhere in Sean Erwin's Win95 OSR2 FAQ (no longer found at Compuclinic site)
  9. you cant, PROBLEMCHYLD!!!! The ME System Restore files depend on ME specific system files and CANT be used under Win98 SE. Older versions of "Go Back" program do better than ME system restore AND can restore a complete hard disk image, even when you've trashed crucial 98se system files (like deleting the entire Windows folder) and using Go Back to restore you HD to a time when the entire Windows folder was intact.
  10. Windows 95 with USB supplement (OSR2.1 and 2.5) does. Petr though they provide limited WDM support but good enough to function under Win95 SR2.1/SR2.5. USB drives working under Win95 SR2.x? NICE!!!

    98 to ME

I too haven't suffered any major problems with WinME. My HP computer I got in late 2000 came pre-installed with ME. ldb, you might want to try installing MDGx's 98SE2ME pack (requires IE 5.5 or higher). It makes Win98se GUI look more like the ME interface.
  12. sure. be sure you also buy an ipod car charger so you can charge the ipod's battery in your car when the ipod battery runs out. car chargers for ipod was cheap (I recently bought one at ROSS for $5 bucks)
  13. Unofficial Win98 standard edition service pack 2.05 (final release) - no longer available -added DST registry fixes from Q928388 & Q929120 -updated WMP 6.4 pack reverting back to DXMASF.DLL 6.4.7.1121 (version 6.4.9.1133 of DXMASF.DLL crashes WMP 6.4 when loading MP3/WMA/WMV files) -added GDIPLUS.DLL file -updated LICENSE.TXT file referencing the Service Pack for Windows 98 Standard page -changed descriptions on the Version tab Properties of the SP executable file MDGx, can you post this at your site, along with unofficial Win95 SR2 update rollup pack 1.0 alpha 3?
  14. nah. not really. link to ME service pack beta 7 (english): http://www.mdgx.com/spx/MESP202B7.EXE ask Max_04 for the latest Italian ME SP. as for the french ME sp, it's no longer available anywhere.
  15. WARNING: PLEASE DO NOT RE-INSTALL OR RERUN COPY2GB.EXE/C2GBME.EXE files if these updates are ALREADY installed!!!!! I did this and they rendered my Win98 & ME systems unusable & unbootable, initiating an automatic shutdown after startup (AND the updated KERNEL32.DLL file was NOT copied after the original KERNEL32.DLL file was renamed!) I had to put in a Win98 boot disk on my Win98se machine and rename KERNEL32.ORI back to KERNEL32.DLL in DOS mode to get the PC running again [same with the WinME computer]. If you REALLY NEED to re-install these patches, UNINSTALL them first, reboot and then RERUN the patches!! MDGx, can you address this FATAL problem with the COPY2GB.EXE & C2GBME.EXE patches?
  16. build 4807 is okay to use BUT it has security flaws and exposes Win98/ME systems to several security breaches. build 4948 fixes these security bugs. better off updating to 5.50.4948.700 of BROWSEUI.DLL to secure Win98/ME
  17. that MS System Info (msinfo32.exe) app included in Win98/ME; why should they have all the fun with that app. I created the MSInfo pack for Win95 which includes the Microsoft System Information tool plus some other useful utilities from Win98/ME that can work under Win95 [like System File Checker (sfc.exe), Dr. Watson GUI (drwatson.exe), System Config tool (msconfig.exe), Registry Checker (scanreg.exe & scanregw.exe) and updated Defrag.exe, Regedit.exe & Scandskw.exe tools]. installing these tools should make Win95 a little more usable and more easier to troubleshoot problems under Win95. I send the MSinfo pack for Win95 to MDGx. find it on the Free Essential System Add-Ons page.
  18. no kidding Marius '95. Do you still use Win95b? BenoitRen also uses win95 sr2 though he's using osr2.5. some of the best stuff you find come with a price. some others like ntfs4dos are free.
  19. never mind. it may not work on a NT4 OS
  20. include KB929120 instead. the unofficial Q929120 fix MDGx created includes the Q928388 DST regsitry fixes
  21. doesnt work under Win95, EVEN with Winsock2 installed. Running SNMP.EXE from Q926247 under Win95+WS2 displays the "The SNMPAPI.DLL file expects a newer version of Windows. Upgrade your Windows version" error message. BOTH the snmp.exe and snmpapi.dll files from Q926247 will work properly under Win98 & ME. NO DONT! MDGx already created the unofficial 314147 fix for Win95. The updated SNMP.EXE & SNMPAPI.DLL files from Win98's Q314147 update DO work properly under Win95.
  22. I advised earlier in this forum NOT to use BROWSEUI.DLL version 5.50.4807.2300. PLEASE use BROWSEUI.DLL version 5.50.4948.700 dated 12/7/2004 from IE 5.5 SP2 KB905915 patch. Does Rick Chauvin even know about version 5.50.4948.700 of BROWSEUI.DLL file?
  23. I'll test the unofficial Q926247 files on a Win95 + Winsock2 PC. I'll post the results later this afternoon. also has Q926247 been tested under NT4?
  24. New Daylight Saving Time update (unofficial 929120 fix) for Windows 2000. get it here. This fix has the Western Australian [Perth] DST registry entries; also includes unofficial 928388 fixes, including updated Tzchange.exe file.
  25. please elaborate, contra. official 928388 patch [WindowsXP-KB928388-x86-ENU.exe] OR unofficial 928388 patch for WinNT4/2000/XP [KB928388.EXE]
