  1. I checked the STWRT.INF file from the IDT/Sigmatel HD Audio v6.10.5713.0 driver obtained from the Gateway support site and it had some of the following Hardware IDs: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384 (I won't list all of the hardware IDs from this STWRT.INF file because they're so many that it'll take up a lot of space here in this forum) I think the reason why the v6.10.5609 and v6.10.5614 drivers from the Dell site cannot install under other Dell machines like the Dell E520 is it may be using hardware id beginning with "VEN_111D" Build 5609 and 5614 of the drivers seem to support only most of the devices that have the Hardware ID beginning with "VEN_8384" But build 5713 seem to support a lot of devices with many different hardware IDs than ones found in builds 5614 and 5609. So PeaceByJesus may want to download the D20253-001-001.exe file from the Gateway support site and try the build 5713 drivers on his Dell Dimension pc. Remember that the existing IDT/Sigmatel HD audio drivers MUST be un-installed before installing the newer drivers [do NOT use the Update Driver button from device manager to install the newer audio drivers since they may not update the drivers properly]. Go to the "Programs and Features" control panel applet, click on the Sigmatel Audio (or IDT Audio) and choose the Un-install option to completely remove the drivers and its programs. Then use the D20253-001-001.exe file to extract the build 5713 drivers and run its setup program to install the new drivers. And if people here still have problems obtaining or installing Vista Service Pack 1 from the Windows Update site, consider downloading and installing the full Vista SP1 standalone package from the Microsoft Download Center link I provided in my previous post.
  2. No probs, PeaceByJesus. Though I recommend installing KB938371 from MS Download center, NOT from Windows Update as the WU editions of KB937287 and KB938371 may have problems installing on some Vista machines. I would also run CHKDSK with the /R switch to fix errors in the hard drive. The KB938371 did install okay on the Dell Inspiron E1405 laptop I'm currently using. Try it again and reboot your computer but make sure no other programs interfere during the installation of the KB938371 update. You can't install Vista SP1 from Windows Update without installing KB938371 and KB937287. Here are the following Hardware IDs listed in the STWRT.INF file of the IDT/Sigmatel HD Audio Codec v6.10.5614 driver I'm using: ---- [sigmaTel.NTx86] %ST.DeviceDesc%=SIGNONLY,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_FFFF&DEV_FFFF %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801B5 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801D8 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801C2 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801C8 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801CC %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801D4 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801D6 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801CE %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801CF %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801C9 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801CA %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801CB %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801D3 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801BD %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801EE %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801EF %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801F6 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801CD %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_10280201 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_10280218 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801F5 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_1028022A %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_10280204 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_10280217 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_102801F9 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_102801FA %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_102801FE %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_102801FF %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_10280206 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_10280200 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_10280232 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_1028024A %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_10280212 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_10280213 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_10280216 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_10280219 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_1028021B %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_10280241 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_1028024B %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_102801F2 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_102801FD %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_1028021F %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_10280229 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_102801F8 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_1028021C %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_102801F1 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_102801FC %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_10280228 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7680&SUBSYS_102801BF %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7680&SUBSYS_102801D7 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_10280209 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_1028022E %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_1028022F %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_10280230 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_102801F3 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_10280227 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_10280242 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_10280243 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_102801F7 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_1028023A %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_1028023B %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_10280244 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_10280245 %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_1028020A ---- Strange that the v6.10.5614 audio driver would not install under your Dell Dimension E520 desktop computer. Most recent Dell laptop and desktop machines use the Sigmatel HD Audio Codec driver. Try un-installing your old audio driver and then install the newly updated driver. Though I would first check the Hardware ID in Device Manager; double click on the "SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC" in Device Manager and click on the Details tab. Select the Hardware IDs property to get the hardware ID number of your Sigmatel Audio hardware. If the hardware ID no. from your Dell E520 system matches any of the hardware IDs I've mentioned above, then the driver from the R171788 package should work. You may want to post here what kind of Hardware ID no. your Dell E520 machine is using for the IDT/Sigmatel HD Audio Codec. If you still have problems installing Vista SP1, I recommend getting the huge standalone Vista SP1 package here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en It's about 435 megabytes in size and takes a while to download but this is what I'll be using to install Vista SP1. I never use the Vista SP1 "express" installer from Windows Update and never will. I prefer the full download package in case I need to re-install SP1. I haven't installed Vista SP1 yet but I'll be doing so later this April. Use a third party download manager like Getright, FlashGet or Mass Downloader [do Google or Yahoo searches for any of these download managers] to download, pause and resume partially downloaded files. UPDATE: I happen to find the IDT/SigmaTel Audio Driver version 6.10.5713.0 at this Gateway Support page: http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers...p;uid=191866337 I've just tested this driver on the Dell Inspiron E1405 notebook computer and believe it or not, IT WORKS!! [Oh joy!] I also happen to find another recent IDT HD Audio driver at this Intel web site: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Des...amp;PrdMap=2806 This IDT* 92XX HD Audio driver for the Intel DG33TL motherboard has version 1.0.5713.6 and I also have tested this version and it installed & worked well on the Dell Inspiron laptop. Weird that IDT drastically changed the version number from 6.10.5713.x to 1.0.5713.x when getting the IDT* 92XX HD Audio driver from the Intel web site. Using this 1.0.5713.6 version, Windows Update no longer offered Vista SP1 as I've just experienced for myself. Not a problem since I've obtained the full Vista SP1 standalone pack from the MS Download Center.
  3. MS really doesn't provide drivers, it verifies and will put drivers given to them from OEMs and partners, but that is it, at this point it would see like you are waiting on gateway for those drivers (btw, gateways website = worst site in the world...) Unfortunately, the Sigmatel/IDT HD Audio drivers at the Dell site are for Dell computers only and NOT for Gateway computers. Therefore you must obtain the Sigmatel/IDT HD Audio drivers directly from the Gateway support site that are made specifically for Gateway machines. Truth is, Sigmatel/IDT provides audio drivers to PC manufacturers, not to end-users as clearly noted on the IDT support site which is why you will not find any audio drivers at IDT's web site. note to fizban2: MS sometimes does provide device drivers through Windows Update.
  4. Hi, i am new here. I suspect it may have to do with more than the sound card. I cannot install the SP1 either on my Dell E520 with Vista HB. The only offending file is the Sigmatel driver, which was 6.10.0.5290 and is now 6.10.0.5515 (R173209 driver). I have downloaded the stand alone SP1 file twice and from windows update once, but when i run it the license dialog box comes up and the text goes past the margins (you cannot expand the box) and you cannot scroll sideways, nor is there any "I Agree box" at the end. Changing Screen resolutions do not help. The text ends with "EULAID:VistaSP1_R1.0_Upgrade_RTL_en-US." NEXT is not available to click. This happens even in Safe Mode, and with all audio drivers deleted (recycle bin) and disabled in the BIOS. And even after disconnecting the drive with XP on it (dual boot). I cannot remove the sound card as it is part of the mobo. I have no other offending drivers according to the MS list, or strange hardware, and all other available needed updates from Dell or MS are installed. The free MS support did suggest doing this: Input the following commands in the DOS Prompt window and press ENTER at the end of each line: REG ADD HKLM\COMPONENTS /V STORECORRUPTTIMESTAMP /T REG_SZ /D "0" /F REG DELETE HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\CHECKSUR\ CheckSUR tool for Windows Vista 32-bit http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/0...B947821-x86.msu Double click on the downloaded file to run the CheckSUR tool and restart the computer to check the results. If the issue persists, please help to collect the CheckSUR.log file for further research: This resulted in SP1 being offered thru Windows update, but it still cannot run past the license box. Still waiting on another reply. Dell has posted the latest Sigmatel/IDT HD Audio drivers in its R171788.exe file, PeaceByJesus. It has version 6.10.0.5614 which I installed on my mother's Dell Inspiron E1405 laptop with pre-installed Vista Home Basic edition. Download the R171788.exe file from the Dell Support site and use it to install these drivers which should be fully compatible with WinVista SP1. Also, have you installed the KB937287 and KB938371 updates? These updates are required before installing Vista SP1. You MUST install KB937287 and KB938371 separately (not simultaneously) as they're might be potential problems with KB937287 noted in MS article 949358: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358 I recommend downloading and installing KB937287 from the MS download center instead of from Windows Update: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en and then reboot the Vista machine and install KB938371 afterwards. Here's the link to get the KB938371 update from the MS download center: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en hope this helps! -erpdude
  5. It's available with Microsoft now!WindowsXP-Windows2000-Script56-KB917344-x86-enu.exe (v5.6.0.8831 - 8/28/2007) However, this download package now requires validating your edition of Windows to obtain the download. You have to be using a genuine Windows product to get the actual Script56 download for Win2000 & XP.
  6. Aloha, what version of Lavasoft Ad-Aware were you using when you had the problem? Too weak? more like too slow or not fast enough for the unofficial WMP10 XP Codec. put more RAM into your computer and/or install a faster CPU or faster hard drive.
  7. AH SHOOT! KB941029 MSVBVM60.DLL 6.0.98.02 hotfix is no longer available. However, v6.0.98.02 of the msvbvm60.dll file is included in Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and Windows XP Service Pack 3 (woo-hoo!) If anyone wants this newer version of the msvbvm60.dll file, ask me for it.
  8. RetroOS, Microsoft made the official KB944533 IE6 SP1 update for Win2000 SP4 systems only. The unofficial KB944533 IE6 SP1 update for Win98/ME is made by someone else other than MS. Bad news about KB941029 msvbvm60.dll 6.00.9802 hotfix. It's no longer available, but the good news is that version 6.00.9802 of the msvbvm60.dll file IS included in WinVista SP1 and WinXP SP3. I've obtained this newer file from the XP SP3 RC2 pack. Let me know if anybody wants version 6.0.98.02 of the msvbvm60.dll file. Note to MDGx: I've released version 2.50 of the unofficial Win98 FE service pack almost 2 weeks ago: Unofficial Win98 FE SP 2.50 Full Edition- http://www.usaupload.net/d/yewpi8d9czk Unofficial Win98 FE SP 2.50 Lite Edition- http://www.usaupload.net/d/8u6ccpuwmhd AND I have just re-posted my Win98 & ME Updates page.
  9. any NT-based version of Windows EXCEPT WinNT4 and earlier. NT4 is too weak for video recording software and most of them won't work under NT4. Use Win2k (NT5) or better. well good luck, Offler.
  10. well the last version of Nero 7.x supported under Win98/ME is 7.2.7.0 posted here: http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-nero7-98me.php
  11. well, is there anyone out there brave enough to even make Firefox 3 or any Gecko 1.9 based browser work properly under Win9xME? What about you, BenoitRen? Don't look at me cuz I don't have the answer to that question. I thought ivanbuto would find certain people who have the guts to make Gecko 1.9 browsers run under Win9x by now. That hasn't happened either. BTW- Firefox 3.0 Beta 4 now available here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.0b4/releasenotes/
  12. AND there is now a guide on how to manually patch the explorer.exe file under WinNT4. go here: http://nt4ref.zcm.com.au/desktop.htm#taskbar
  13. Ah at last, version 2.50 is finally here! Unofficial Win98 FE SP 2.50 Full Edition - link removed Unofficial Win98 FE SP 2.50 Lite Edition - link removed Changes: -removed DX6MEDIA.EXE file -updated JSCRIPT.DLL to version 5.7.0.20550 -added WUPDMGR.EXE file version 5.3.220.1000 -updated NDIS.VXD, PPPMAC.VXD & VIP.386 files from Q301453/Q329128 -fixed minor install problem with the OE4 SP1 (Outlook Express 4.x) updates -updated Time Zone entries from Q942763 and Root Certificates [ROOTSUPD.EXE] -updated WMP 6.4 install package which now bundles updated DX6 Media codecs Known issues/Problems: -version 4.10.2003 of the PPPMAC.VXD file included in the 2.50 Full & Lite releases (and from the Q301453/Q329128 hotfix for Win98) is incompatible with Win98's NetBEUI protocol. If you install v2.50 of the 98fe SP on a Win98 first edition machine with the NetBEUI protocol already installed, Win98 will freeze/hang on the DOS screen [black screen with blinking cursor] and never load the Win98 desktop. To resolve this problem, boot Win98 into Safe Mode, access the Network control panel dialog box, remove/un-install the NetBEUI protocol and reboot Win98 into Normal mode. OR you can use an older version of the PPPMAC.VXD file (version 4.10.2002 or earlier) if you really need to use the NetBEUI protocol. Also if you install the NetBEUI protocol from the Network control panel applet with version 4.10.2003 of PPPMAC.VXD already installed, Win98 will crash with a Blue Screen error message referencing the PPPMAC.VXD file and Win98 will stop working altogether after NetBEUI protocol installation.
  14. MS RegClean is totally crap and worthless under WinME, txagpilot. You should have used WinME's built-in Registry Checker [scanreg.exe or Scanregw.exe] program since it does a far better job checking for and fixing registry problems. MS RegClean is barely incompatible with WinME and can wreck an ME computer. any other registry utilities (beside Regclean) are okay by me. After un-installing the Merriam-Webster Dictionary app, delete all registry entries referencing it, reboot WinME and re-install it; don't install the Merriam-Webster Dictionary Macros for Microsoft Word if you do not have MS Word installed, so I would do a Custom install of this program instead. Also, you may want to get the latest version of this app. I have version 3.0 of this program. I've contacted the_guy almost a month ago about the problems with the latest beta of his WinME SP but got no response back. Seems like he's currently busy.
  15. Forget it, Tihiy. KB934602 is another hotfix that has been "shortlived" and is no longer available from MS support anymore. I've tried requesting KB934602 myself a few weeks ago and MS doesn't have it anymore as what I've been told. Consider using KB930828 which should be mentioned at MDGx's web site. OR better yet, try KB941029 which has 6.0.98.02 of msvbvm60.dll and MS KB article 941029 has keyword "kbhotfixserver" near the bottom of the article in the Keywords: section; one tell-tale sign that there may be a hotfix available for it. MS KB article 934602 doesn't have keyword "kbhotfixserver" on it.
  16. Ok. I finally got my SFXCAB file to work now, eryen. I had problems creating CAB files with MAKECAB.EXE, so I used CABARC.EXE instead. The CAB file I created needed to be created using LZX:21 compression with CABARC.EXE. Then I copied your SFX file with the CAB file (compressed with LZX:21 compression) and then hexed "20 00" to "60 00" before the hotfix.exe file and now running the SFXCAB file works. thanks for the MSCF.SFX file. It's version 6.1.22.4. Other versions of SFXCAB.EXE don't seem to work for me while the one you posted worked well.
  17. thanks. I'm still getting "File is corrupt" error message when running the SFXCAB file I made. already hexed 20 00 to 60 00 in front of hotfix.exe. what about using CABARC.EXE to make CAB files? Seems to be easier than using MAKECAB.EXE. Also, have you tested your own methods of making SFXCAB files on an NT-based Windows computer and did it work or not?
  18. OH NO! I strongly disapprove of this, Gape. BOTH the 2_4DATE.EXE file AND "sShortDate" are needed to make ALL programs that have date functions use the "m/d/yyyy" format. The "sShortDate=M/d/yyyy" in WIN.INI is used by 16bit programs like File Manager (WINFILE.EXE). File Manager does NOT use the date format settings from the Windows registry. While the 2_4DATE.EXE file only updates the Windows registry to make only 32bit programs like Windows Explorer use the m/d/yyyy format. 2_4DATE does NOT make 16bit apps like File Manager use the 4-digit year date format. That's why "sShortDate" is still needed. So you will need to put back WIN.INI sShortDate into the next beta release of the 98se SP.
  19. Whoops. I apologize for postponing the 2.50 release once again (hey I have good reasons why I have to delay the release) since I found some recent but minor problems with them. They should be ready by early March for sure once I finish testing them and I've fixed those minor problems that I recently found.
  20. So far, eryen, your method of creating SFXCAB files has NOT worked. Running the SFXCAB file that I created produced "File is corrupt" error message. What MSCF part? There is more than one instance of MSCF. Look in any NT-based update file in Notepad or Wordpad (or even in a hex editor like XVI32) and you will find that there are three instances of "MSCF". So which MSCF part do I delete? Look very carefully.
  21. you mean "create", eryen. you've gotta use some spellcheck in your post. you mean makecab.exe okay. since I may want to create SFXCAB like NT4 packages, can I use hotfix.exe instead of setup.exe listed in step 4?
  22. Probably in Microsoft labs only. It is possible to extract it from the iexpress package. Do you see any reason why to use this version? Petr simply for experimental purposes, Petr. so how exactly do you extract version 5.50.4925.2200 of the wextract.exe file from certain iexpress packages? -erpdude
  23. Please make a note of this Gape, if you really want to prevent the Version Conflict popups. And files listed like this "Snmp.exe,,,1024" in the SPUPDATE.INF file; change it to look like this > "Snmp.exe,,,1056" ANY files listed that have ",,,1024" after it should have ",,,1056" and files like "Msasn1.dll" should be listed as "Msasn1.dll,,,32"
  24. that turned out to be false. dialup modems are so last decade; so 1998. dialup connections are as crap as using IE. that's right BenoitRen. Dialup is as crap as IE. Get rid of dialup and upgrade to a broadband internet since broadband internet services now are pretty much widely available AND affordable. Make 2008 the year you dumped dialup for good and permanently upgrade to broadband. My brother and I dumped dialup back in 2006 and got AT&T Yahoo DSL Internet at an inexpensive price. And lightweight browsers like Kmeleon and Opera show the true meaning of the word SUPERFAST with only broadband DSL and Cable internet connections. not really. I didn't notice any improvements when I had a WinME PC a year ago. however try installing the Q301453 hotfixes for Win98se/WinME and check if your broadband connections get any better. Also try changing "DefaultRcvWindow" reg value to 32767 or 65535 to see if your broadband internet connections improve.
  25. slight change of plans. an alpha release of the unofficial Win95 OSR2.x SP may be due out sometime this April. I have not decided when the beta and final releases of the SP will be ready. btw - final release of the unofficial OSR2 URP pack is available at MDGx's web site. So how about making it semi-slipstreamed? For most Win95 hotfixes, yes they can be slipstreamed to some sort. You'll have to copy your original OSR2 setup files onto the hard drive first, then put the updated files into the folder where you saved your setup files. That way OSR2 setup should copy the updated files rather than getting them from the original setup CAB files. It certainly won't work with the Dcom95, DirectX8 & other addons.
