  1. or you can follow the directions here: http://www.msfn.org/comments.php?shownews=22399 and here: https://msinfluentials.com/blogs/jesper/arc...ing-xp-sp3.aspx
  2. one thing you forgot to mention is the actual download link to the updated IDT/Sigmatel driver. here it is: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Des...06〈=eng
  3. nice to hear that the IDT HD Audo Codec 1.0.5713.6 driver from Windows Update worked on your machine, lexonex. Good thing you got them on Monday May 12. The following day (May 13), Microsoft pulled the updated IDT HD Audio Codec driver 1.0.5713.6 from Windows Update & Microsoft Update Catalog and seems to be no longer available. Doing a recent Microsoft Update Catalog search on "Sigmatel High Definition Audio Codec" listed some new Sigmatel/IDT drivers here: http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/sit...ion+audio+codec This one is version 6.10.5866 and here are the qualifying hardware ID numbers: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_11790461 HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7691&SUBSYS_117904F1 HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7691&SUBSYS_11790472 HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_11790472 HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_11790463 HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_11790462 HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_11790473 HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7691&SUBSYS_117904F2 HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_00000100 HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7691&SUBSYS_00000100 This new driver with driver date of 2/15/2008 is specifically for Toshiba laptops with built-in Sigmatel HD Audio. So for those using Sigmatel HD Audio on certain Toshiba notebooks, an updated driver is now available from Windows Update & Microsoft Update Catalog.
  4. nah. I think you're better off with the Sigmatel/IDT Audio drivers version 6.10.5515 from the R173209.EXE package. The current IDT HD Audio Codecs for Vista (v1.0.5713.6 dated 2/13/2008) are no longer available from Windows Update and last time I checked the Dell forums, this updated IDT HD Audio Codecs have caused problems and killed their audio and had to revert back to the older working drivers to get back their sound. Perhaps Microsoft should ask Dell for the v6.10.5515 Sigmatel HD audio drivers from R173209 for Dell desktops and post them on Windows Update & Microsoft Update. Ditto for the v6.10.5614 drivers from R171788 for Dell laptops. For those using certain HP and Sony laptops, here are the latest Sigmatel/IDT High Def. Audio updates: sp38558.exe [this one has v6.10.5712 A of the Sigmatel/IDT ID92HD71B7 Audio drivers - posted March 7, 2008] STDAUD-01487701-US.EXE [this one has v6.10.5614.0 of the Sigmatel/IDT HD Audio drivers - posted December 10, 2007] I'm pretty sure the drivers posted at the HP & Sony support sites won't work on Dell machines. Obtain either one of those files ONLY if you are using HP/Compaq or Sony notebook machines. It looks like Gateway has finally posted newer Sigmatel/IDT audio drivers on their web site. D20361-001-001.exe [bundles v6.10.5713.1 of the Sigmatel/IDT High Def. Audio drivers - posted April 24, 2008] Perhaps lexonex may want to try out these drivers on his computer. These drivers Gateway has posted DO have the qualifying "7682" hardware ID number on there. better late than never I guess...for Gateway that is.
  5. And Opera FTW. Seriously, if you're still a win9x user and don't run IE, then Opera is the best alternative. or K-meleon. K-meleon is a lightweight browser just like Opera, uses Mozilla's gecko engine and runs well. Latest versions of K-meleon are 1.15 and 1.50 beta. Both work under Win9x though Win9x/ME/NT4 users must run the "k-meleonW9x.exe" file instead of normal "k-meleon.exe" file for K-meleon 1.50 beta to work correctly. Last version of Opera supported under Win95 is 9.2x. I've tested the Opera 9.50 betas on an old Win95c machine and they fail to work (the opera.dll file doesn't load). seriously. But the Opera 9.50 betas seem to work with Win98/ME. Netscape retired support for their Navigator browsers on March 1, 2008 as noted on this page.
  6. NO, PROBLEMCHYLD, those versions of the CRYPT32.DLL & CRYPTUI.DLL files do NOT work. They can mess up your Win98se machine. New Jet 4.0 MS08-028 security updates: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/MS08-028.mspx Whenever MDGx has some spare time, he should use the KB950749 files from the Win2000 patch. And the links to my unofficial Win98 FE SP 2.50 packs only points to the full SP on his Software Essentials page. He'll need to fix that "oopsie" and follow my suggestions to rename the full 98 SP 2.50 pack to 98FESP2F.EXE and rename the lite 98 SP 2.50 pack to 98FESP2L.EXE. For now the full 98fe SP 2.50 pack is here: http://www.usaupload.net/d/yewpi8d9czk and the lite 98fe SP 2.50 pack from here: http://www.usaupload.net/d/8u6ccpuwmhd AVOID getting any of my 98fe SP packs from MDGx's web site until he posts up the correct editions on his web site.
  7. I won't include WMP 6.1 in the SP though. But WMP 6.4 works okay with OSR2 & embedded IE3. And version 6.4 only requires a FEW IE files, not the whole IE browser set which doesn't bother me. I'll have the WMP install issue resolved soon. Link to Unofficial Win95 OSR2 SP 1.0 alpha 2: http://www.usaupload.net/d/10hd225g9uv changes: -fixed Wintop installation problem; option to install Wintop is now available -fixed UniModemV 4.10.1343 driver install problem I will only provide the unofficial OSR2 service pack in English language and not in any-non English languages. But I do welcome those who want to translate the SP into any language they desire.
  8. thanks. I will say that Microsoft has finally posted updated Sigmatel/IDT HD Audio drivers at Windows Update and at the Microsoft Update Catalog site for Vista SP1. The packages are listed as "IDT - Audio - IDT High Definition Audio Codec" for Windows Vista version 1.0.5713.6 dated 2/13/2008. I recently did a search of them at the Microsoft Update Catalog site: http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/sit...spx?q=idt+audio [you need to use Internet Explorer to correctly view this page as this site does not work with non-IE browsers] AND Microsoft has updated MS support KB article 948343 on May 5, 2008 to reflect the following on Sigmatel/IDT HD audio: I think MS has already modified their Windows Update "filters" to allow Vista users to obtain SP1 through WU when using certain IDT/Sigmatel audio drivers on Dell, HP and Sony machines.
  9. yup. after installing SP3 on an XP system with IE7, the un-install option for IE7 will be removed. One good reason why I remove IE7 first, BEFORE installing XP SP3 and then I re-install IE7.
  10. I never obtain NET framework versions 3.0 and 3.5 from Windows Update cuz WU usually don't offer them. consider obtaining them from the Microsoft download center instead. .NET Framework 3.5: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en A full but large redistributable package of NET Framework 3.5 is also available there which also includes .net framework 2.0 sp1 and 3.0 sp1
  11. it could be a problem with the CD drive itself. does the BIOS detect the CD drive? can the Win98 boot disk see the CD drive? load a Win98 boot disk and select the CD-ROM option to see if your CD drive can be seen. You might want to check out this CNET.com forum thread about Win98 not seeing the CD drive: http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7813_102-0.htm...messageID=78598
  12. Unofficial Windows 95 OSR2.x Service Pack 1.0 alpha 1 (link expired; no longer available) known issues/problems- -The WinTop files are there but there's no option to install them -the UniModemV drivers option does not work correctly; SP prompts for the files -when installing WMP 6.4 build 1129 on some clean OSR2 systems w/out IE, some files are not registered correctly and display error messages I'll get most of these problems fixed in the next alpha release which is coming early next week. yup. best to use either cabarc.exe or makecab.exe to accomplish this.
  13. Oisin, try this out: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthrea...1249&page=7 Read post number #62 by till69 in that forum thread.
  14. what model is the Acer computer, KevinR?
  15. In the Seamonkey 2.x alpha nightly builds I'm beta testing, XUL.DLL file is also used there.
  16. hmm, can you try running Shockwave Player 11 on a Win98/ME machine with the latest version of KernelEx installed?
  17. no probs, PeaceByJesus. It's as if the Lord told me (in my sleep a few days ago) to tell you to change the fonts on your Vista computer and then run SP1 setup to see if your situation got better. there you have it. There's no need to use the modified stwrt.ini trick anymore as you already have compatible Vista SP1 sigmatel hd audio drivers. It was a last ditch effort anyway. I have searched the Windows Update and Microsoft Update Catalog sites and found no updated Sigmatel HD audio drivers compatible with Vista SP1. Latest drivers I found at those two sites are 6.10.0.5462. So for those using Sigmatel HD audio, they will need to obtain the latest drivers from computer manufacturers such as Dell or Gateway (or Intel), rather than rely on Windows Update to provide updated Sigmatel HD audio drivers. To summarize, for those using Gateway P-6831FX laptop or Gateway machines with PM965 motherboards, get v6.10.0.5713.0 of the Sigmatel/IDT HD Audio drivers here. For some Dell laptop computers, try the R171788.exe or R170217.EXE packages. Both have v6.10.0.5614 of the Sigmatel HD sound drivers. for some Dell laptops that use Sigmatel HD Audio with Array Mics, use the R167846.exe file which has Sigmatel sound drivers version 6.10.0.5609. For some Dell desktop machines, try the R173209.exe package which has 6.10.0.5515 of the audio drivers. And for computers using certain Intel motherboards with built-in Sigmatel/IDT 92xx HD audio chips, try the IDT 92XX Audio v6.10.0.5713.1 drivers from here. Pretty soon, perhaps this Friday afternoon of April 18 pacific time, Vista SP1 will be available through Automatic Updates. that means Vista users will receive Vista SP1 automatically with Automatic Updates enabled, regardless of the Sigmatel high definition sound driver situation. AND if after installing Vista Service Pack 1 by any method causes the sound problems (or sound loss), check out the solutions found in MS support KB article 948481. Hope Vista users find these recent information useful.
  18. The "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DD=WRT_D8-4.INI" line should NOT be listed twice. If it's already there, do not list it again. The WRT_D8-4.INI references these model nos. HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DD HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801ED HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801F4 HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618 rather than put "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DD" by itself in the stwrt.ini file add the following: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DD=WRT_D8-4.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801ED=WRT_D8-4.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801F4=WRT_D8-4.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618=WRT_D8-4.INI If some or all of them are already listed, do not list them again. The procedure of editing the stwrt.ini & stwrt64.ini files from the v6.10.5713.1 sigmatel/idt audio drivers from intel is optional if you already have Vista SP1 compatible drivers. It's a "last ditch" effort to get these drivers to work when you can't find any Vista SP1 compatible drivers that work specifically for your computer. Looks like PeaceByJesus isn't alone with the SP1 setup problem he encountered. Good thing I bookmarked this Microsoft forum topic: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPo...3&SiteID=17 and check out the pictures on Installing Vista SP1 here: http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?p=648 When running SP1 setup and you reach the license agreement part, there should be an option telling you to accept the license terms. Select that option and you can click on the Next button to continue on with SP1 setup.
  19. I think so, bristols. After the 128sc.dll file is copied onto the computer, it will then be renamed to schannel.dll. He kinda "designed" it that way. There's no need to worry about that. MDGx, MS has posted the MS08-022 Jscript.dll + Vbscript.dll security updates: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms08-022.mspx If you take a look at MS KB article 944338: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944338 The jscript.dll & vbscript.dll files for WSH 5.6 are version 5.6.0.8835. Can you include these files into your unofficial MSE 5.6 pack for Win98/ME and for NT4?
  20. PeaceByJesus, Here's the screenshot from Paul Thurrott's Supersite on the Vista SP1 license agreement dialog box: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvi...a_sp1_wu_07.jpg Notice in this picture, a checkbox that says "I accept the license terms" is there. If you check this box, the "Next" button will no longer be grayed out and you can click on it. So it turns out to be the "fonts" problem that made the SP1 license agreement window not show the checkbox to accept the license terms on your computer. All you need to do is change the fonts back to Segoe UI (which is the default or preset for Vista) and the SP1 setup window should work as expected. Ok, for all other Vista users having Sigmatel/IDT audio driver problems and not getting Vista SP1, please post here and mention the model no. or hardware ID no. of the Sigmatel audio device.
  21. Judging by the picture you posted, the Vista SP1 setup dialog box is missing a checkbox that says "Accept License Agreement". the checkbox should be shown at the bottom of the license agreement box. Since changing the screen resolutions didn't work, i'm beginning to think the text styles (aka. fonts) you are using are what's causing the SP1 setup dialog box to display strangely and not show the License agreement checkbox. To fix this problem, right click on an open area of your Desktop, select Personalize, click on Theme, change the Theme to "Windows Vista" and click OK to make changes. unfortunately your customized font settings, color and wallpaper settings may be lost when doing this so before you actually do the tip described above, click on the "Save As" button on the Theme Settings dialog box to save your current theme (name the theme whatever you want) and click OK. after you save your customized theme, do the procedure mentioned above to change the Desktop theme to Windows Vista. Changing the Desktop Theme to Windows Vista will use the "Segoe UI" fonts for the menu bar, message box and title bars for the windows. Now try running Vista SP1 setup again if the "Accept License Agreement" checkbox appears at the bottom, click on it and the "Next" button will be available for you to click on. then after SP1 is installed you can change back to your current desktop theme by right clicking on an open area of your Desktop, select Personalize, click on Theme and change the Theme back to your current one you saved. -erpdude
  22. yea, someday. though I won't be working for Dell. Dell's headquarters are in Texas. I reside in southern California.
  23. wow, PeaceByJesus. I'm baffled as to why the Next button in the SP1 license agreement box is grayed out (disabled) in the picture you showed me. this shouldn't happen unless there's a program that is interfering with it. I think we can end the discussion here. I don't think the v6.10.5515 of the Sigmatel/IDT audio drivers are causing this problem, so we can rule out that possibility. I guess we'll have to wait for the Vista SP1 DVD. you may have a better chance with that one. Before installing SP1 from WU, Download center or from the DVD, turn off user account control [uAC] as described here: http://windows.about.com/od/windowsvistase.../uac_popups.htm If you need any more help, you can contact me by clicking on my username "erpdude8" on the left hand side of this forum page and you can send me either email or PM message. thanks for the workaround to install the generic Intel 945/965 graphics drivers. I couldn't apply them on my mom's Dell Inspiron laptop the previous several times and the setup program told me to obtain the Intel drivers from the computer manufacturer. Looks like I really had to un-install the customized Intel video drivers first and then install the new generic ones. now I got them (now shows 7.14.10.1437) to work on the laptop.
  24. hmm, it looks like you have a complex situation with the SP1 install, PeaceByJesus. i'm scratching my head on this one but we'll try to work things out. I guess the 6.10.5713.1 of the IDT audio drivers were pretty much a "bonus" and not necessary for your computer but at least v6.10.5515 worked. Are you absolutely sure your hardware ID no is "FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DD"? double-check again in Device Manager, expand the Sound, video & game controllers section, double-click on the Sigmatel/IDT High Definition Audio Codec, choose properties, click on Details tab and change the Property value from Device Description to Hardware IDs. We might be off a letter or two. for example, the "SUBSYS_102801DD" part might be "SUBSYS_102801DC" or "SUBSYS_102801DB" So let's stick with build 5515 for now since they're fit for Vista SP1. We'll use the 5713.1 drivers some other time once we resolve the SP1 install problem. I suspect they're might be some antivirus and/or security programs running that might be intefering with SP1 setup. does SP1 setup crash after the license dialog box? What error messages appear when you ran SP1 setup? If you have antivirus software installed what kind is it? Also check if your have firewall software installed on your machine. I think we need to disable antivirus, anti-spyware and firewall programs before setting up Vista SP1 as these programs may interfere with the SP1 installation. I happen to read the Vista SP1 troubleshooting page here: http://www.winvistaclub.com/t67.html And try to follow the suggestions in MS KB article 947366 (especially Resolution No. 5): http://support.microsoft.com/Kb/947366 perhaps you may want to list all the software you have installed on your Dell E520 machine here. I think we also need to update the ks.sys file. A flaw in the ks.sys file might be causing install problems with SP1. Let's download the KB950127 update here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en also, what kind of display adapter your Dell E520 machine is using? Open Device Manager and Expand the Display adapters section.
  25. After installing the revised KB937287 & KB938371 updates, restarting and running Vista SP1 setup, if you see the option that says "Automatically restart the computer" in the SP1 setup dialog box, uncheck that option and when Vista SP1 setup finishes, close the program and restart your computer manually. That way, Vista SP1 setup won't initiate a "pre-mature" reboot. Another good reason to use the v6.10.5713.1 of the sigmatel/idt sound drivers is to resolve a "sound stuttering" or "music skipping" problem that Takiyon mentioned in this Dell forum page: http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums...id=54460#M54460
