  1. Has anyone submitted bug to Adobe? According to system req's (http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/productinfo/systemreqs/#os), Windows 98/ME should still be supported. Here is bug report link: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index....&product=17 Flash Player 9 should still be supported under Win98/ME. But you'll need Intel Pentium II 450MHz or faster processor with at least 128MB of RAM to use AFP 9. Install faster CPUs or install more RAM [or do both] if you don't have the right hardware. We definitely need to send Adobe bug reports about AFP 9 builds 115 and 124 about the crashes.
  2. The WinME defrag.exe file should be able to run under Win98se. I've used it many times and it's great. Defrags FAT32 file systems a lot faster than the 98se version. The regular edition of diskeeper is not freeware, though. I did have some memories using Diskeeper Lite v7 on Win98/ME computers um, there is a Diskeeper Lite 9 bundled with the Intel Desktop Utilities software package. v9 seems to remove those nag-screens. go here: http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/softw...du/download.htm Download Intel Desktop Utilities version 2.1.9.66 (an 89meg size download) which features DK Lite 9 and some other tools. Also see this page on different defrag tools: http://www.castlecops.com/posts180117-0.html
  3. I'd also recommend these Firefox memory tweaks: browser.cache.memory.capacity>integer>16384 [set this to a lower value if you have insufficient about of physical RAM on your machine; or set this value higher such as 32768 if you have lots of RAM installed, 512 megs or more] config.trim_on_minimize>boolean>true browser.sessionhistory.max_entries>integer>20 or 30 browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers>integer>0
  4. Did you un-install previous versions of Shockwave Player before installing version 11? You really need to do this. I found out Shockwave Player 11 installs its files into the \Windows\System\Adobe\ folder instead of the \Windows\System\Macromed\ folder on a Win98 machine. If problems persist, contact Adobe here and use this Bug Report form: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform select Shockwave as the Product name and fill out the rest
  5. upgrade to Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1. SP1 seems to improve reliability with inserting and removing USB drives.
  6. It looks like the old audio drivers needed to be un-installed first before installing the new ones because Vista plug 'n play feature is not accepting the new ones (sometimes Vista PnP isn't smart). I apologize in the procedure of editing stwrt*.ini files for not mentioning this crucial step of removing the old drivers first and then installing the new ones. The new Sigmatel/IDT audio drivers shouldn't be installed on top of the old Sigmatel/IDT drivers. Open the Control Panel, go to "Programs and Features", select "Sigmatel Audio" or "IDT Audio" (or both; we need to remove ALL traces of Sigmatel/IDT Audio entries), uninstall them and restart the computer. Then use Device Manager to uninstall the generic Vista HD audio drivers (6.0.6000.16386) but this time, do NOT restart the computer. Now run the setup.exe program again from that 5713.1 folder with the modified stwrt.ini file, and it should detect your audio hardware, use the wrt_d8-4.ini file to setup your audio hardware on your machine and apply its settings. Make sure a copy of the wrt_d8-4.ini file taken from the R173209 package is stored in the WDM folder where the v6.10.5713.1 of the drivers are stored. the stwrt.ini file needs to find the wrt_d8-4.ini file. for the Vista SP1 installation problem, Microsoft has re-issued the SP1 pre-requisite updates a few days ago: KB937287 and KB938371. The revised KB937287 update now requires the KB949939 update found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en one of the following two scenarios should happen when using the KB949939 update: a. When running KB949939 install, a dialog box says "Click to install the update" (KB949939), install it and restart the computer right away. Do NOT install any other Vista updates with KB949939! b. When running KB949939 install, a dialog box says "This update does not apply to your system", in that case click OK and scrap the update as it is not needed. The revised KB937287 update can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en one of the following two scenarios should happen for KB937287: a. Running KB937287 displays a dialog box saying "Click to install the update" (KB937287). Install this update and reboot right away; do NOT install any other Vista updates with KB937287. b. Running KB937287 displays a dialog box saying "This update does not apply to your system";, in that case click OK to close the dialog box and move on if the original KB937287 update was already installed And finally let's get the revised KB938371 update here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en Download and install the revised KB938371 update, even though the original one was already installed. After installing the revised patch, reboot the computer and try running Vista SP1 setup again. i'm not sure why Windows Update re-offered KB938371 on my mom's Dell Inspiron laptop with Vista Home Basic Edition 32bit. Looks like I really need to install the "revised" KB938371 update, even though the original one installed successfully. ok, lexonex's sigmatel/idt audio situation has been fully resolved...finally [YAY! ]
  7. Before you actually install Vista SP1, be sure to run CHKDSK /F to fix file system errors first as that seemed to resolve the Vista SP1 installation problem for some people. type CHKDSK /F in the Run dialog box. Windows will display a command windows prompt that it can not check the drive because it is in use and it will ask you to schedule a disk check when you restart the computer. Answer Y and hit Enter to schedule a disk check, close the dialog box and reboot your computer to make CHKDSK check your computer.
  8. Ok for lexonex's situation, I've just found a better solution, only this time we do NOT need to edit the stwrt.ini/stwrt64.ini files! I found the right driver package that just might work on lexonex's Gateway FX510S computer AND it's in the most unlikely of places. It's a good thing I made him look up the hardware id number of the sigmatel/idt audio device. Download the "AUD_allOS_5762x_5713.1v_PV_IDTGUI_v53.exe" file from this Intel web site: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/13706/eng/..._IDTGUI_v53.exe I've carefully checked the contents of the AUD_allOS_5762x_5713.1v_PV_IDTGUI_v53.exe file and it DOES include the I5.INI file. I've also looked at the contents of the stwrt.ini & stwrt64.ini files of this v6.10.5713.1 driver package. Guess what? The INI files listed the hardware ID no. on there: "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7682&SUBSYS_107B4044" SO... All lexonex has to do is to run the AUD_allOS_5762x_5713.1v_PV_IDTGUI_v53.exe file to extract the files to the \AUD_allOS_5762x_5713.1v_PV_IDTGUI_v53\ folder and then run the [setup.exe] file from that folder and the IDT Audio setup program should take care of the rest. well lexonex, there you have it. You can thank Intel for making the IDT audio drivers work on your machine and on others. with version 6.10.5713.1 of the sigmatel/idt audio drivers from Intel installed on your Gateway computer, you should now be elligible for Vista SP1 through Windows Update after installing the April 2008 security updates, the April 2008 MS Malicious Software Removal Tool [< this was the very last update that I had to install on my mom's Dell laptop and Vista SP1 finally showed up in Windows Update] and the revised KB938371 update [< this is now V2]
  9. correction, let's get the WRT_D8-4.INI file from the R173209.exe file instead of R157052.exe file to have the latest audio settings. whoops. I just realized something, PeaceByJesus. From the STWRT.INI file in the \AUD_allVista_5713.1_PV_IDT_v22_IAS\WDM\ folder, we should add the following in the [Models] section: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618=WRT_D8-4.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DD=WRT_D8-4.INI So we needed to add TWO lines referencing id no. 7618 into STWRT.INI. It looks like the audio setup program did not fully detect id no. 7618. sorry about that. now try it again. I'll edit my older post that mentioned id no. 7618. just wondering, PeaceByJesus. Are you using the 32bit edition of Vista or the 64bit edition of Vista? Right-click on the My computer icon and select Properties. (or select System from the Control Panel Window). For 32bit systems the "stwrt.ini" file needs to be edited. For 64bit systems the file that needs to be edited is "stwrt64.ini"
  10. I don't think so. 5508 isn't going to be the RTM release. Regarding HDA support and XP SP3: I've recently checked the XP SP3 RC2 refresh build 5508 download and it only contains the hdaudbus.inf and hdaudbus.sys files. The hdaprop.dll, hdashcut.exe, hdaudio.inf, hdaudio.sys and hdaudres.dll files are not there. So right now XP SP3 RC2 refresh only contains partial HDA support, not full support. hopefully MS will add the missing HDA files onto the final release of XP SP3.
  11. I had been reading a problem with WMP 11 in Vista about the RMI-error here: http://www.vistabanter.com/99431-vistahome...-rmi-error.html When attempting to play MIDI files with extension .rmi in WMP11 in Vista, and error message appears. I have also experienced this problem with Windows Media Player 11 in Vista Home Basic edition. The solution, install Vista Service Pack 1. After the installation of Vista SP1, WMP11 can now play .RMI files. Seems like there were missing registry entries or some missing wmp audio codecs for playing certain MIDI files in the original release of Vista. So, LeoTheBeo, if you are out there listening, install Vista SP1 and the RMI-error problem should be resolved.
  12. Your seeming supererogatorical efforts are commendable. In my case, i have driver version 6.10.0.5515, and the Hardware lds is HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DD&REV_1002 and HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DD You will have to tell me if that is "similar." Meanwhile, i have the Intel file you linked to opened with the STWRT.INI in my sights, awaiting your confirmation what variants of HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DD&REV_1002 and HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DD to add, rather than DEV_7680. However, the latest reply from the MS free SP1 support is "Dear Daniel, Thank you for your response. I have ordered a new Windows Vista Basic embedded with SP1 DVD for you free of charge. You should expect to receive the DVD within 7 to 15 business days." So praise the Lord . This is what i inquired about, as i almost did a clean install of Vista but sensed i should hold back. I only have the Dell restore type DVD for Vista, so i am not sure if i could've made a slipstreamed Vista/SP1 DVD with it. Yet i am not sure that this combo coming will not have any problems, but i think it will install. If i find a usable sound card sometimes that fits this Dell i will likely install that. The integrated Sigmatel does not record audio from the sound card (i bought a splitter to do so). Ok. It's 7618 rather than 7680. I was almost there. I guess you may have some doubts of editing the STWRT*.INI file (it's the STWRT*.INF file that we do not mess with) but I "kept the faith" so to speak, remained confident in what I did and got the 5713.x drivers to work on the Dell Inspiron laptop I'm using. I found out the reason why the v6.10.5609 and v6.10.5614 of the audio drivers from Dell wouldn't work on your Dell Dimension machine is because the hardware ID number "7618" is not there, in both the STWRT*.INF and STWRT*.INI files. It'll be best not to use those anyway since they have less flexibility and supports fewer models or hardware IDs of sigmatel/idt audio devices. In the STWRT.INI file from the v6.10.5511 audio package from Dell, the "DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DD" number references the WRT_D8-4.INI file. Ok the steps I mentioned a few days ago have been changed. I've edited the my comments I originally made on April 5. for the Vista SP1 install issue, I was reading a thread here: http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs/pa...the-public.aspx BrightrevCarl made a comment about running CHKDSK before installing SP1. There's definitely a light at the end of the tunnel.
  13. This info is very crucial because we need BOTH the STWRT64.INF and STWRT64.INI files to "recognize" this model no. This hardware ID no is "unique" and is specific for your machine. The hardware ID no. that I use is different and specific to the Dell Inspiron laptop that I'm using. Here's what you should do, lexonex. I'll list the tips, step by step. Since you use the 64bit edition of Vista: 1. Download the D20253-001-001.exe file from the Gateway site. It has v6.10.5713.0 of the Sigmatel/IDT Audio drivers. 2. Run the D20253-001-001.exe file to extract the files. The driver files will be stored into the \cabs\D20253-001-001\WDM\Vista\ folder. Let's go to this folder, look for the STWRT64.INI (NOT the STWRT64.INF) file, open it in Notepad. It'll look like this: ---- # stwrt64.INI [Models] HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634&SUBSYS_107B0461=92XXM1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634&SUBSYS_107B0681=92XXM2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634&SUBSYS_107B0685=92XXM2-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634&SUBSYS_107B0316=92XXM2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634&SUBSYS_107B0366=92XXM5.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634&SUBSYS_107B0281=92XXM6.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634&SUBSYS_107B0367=92XXM1-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0560=92XXM4-8DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0561=92XXM4-8DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0562=92XXM4-8DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0565=92XXM4-8DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0566=92XXM4-8DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0210=92XXM4-4.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0380=92XXM4-8DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0690=92XXM4-10DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0567=92XXM4-8AM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0568=92XXM4-8AM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0575=92XXM4-8AM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0569=92XXM4-8AM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0570=92XXM4-8AM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0385=92XXM4-8AM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0691=92XXM4-10AM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76B0&SUBSYS_107B0692=TW_92XXM4-11DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_107B0205=92XXM4.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_107B0317=92XXM4-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_107B0318=92XXM4-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_107B0370=92XXM4-3.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_107B0290=92XXM4-5.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_107B0368=92XXM4-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634=92XXM6.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7632=92XXM1-3.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0=92XXM4-8DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690=92XXM4-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76B0=TW_92XXM4-11DM.INI DEFAULT=92XXM4-1.INI ---- I noticed "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7682&SUBSYS_107B4044" is NOT on the list, but "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7682" is included in the STWRT64.INF file. So we just need to add the "DEV_7682" ID no into the INI file. 3. Add "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7682&SUBSYS_107B4044=I5.INI" into the [Models] section. You can add this ID number below the [Models] line so it'll look like this: --- [Models] HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7682&SUBSYS_107B4044=I5.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634&SUBSYS_107B0461=92XXM1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634&SUBSYS_107B0681=92XXM2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634&SUBSYS_107B0685=92XXM2-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634&SUBSYS_107B0316=92XXM2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634&SUBSYS_107B0366=92XXM5.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634&SUBSYS_107B0281=92XXM6.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634&SUBSYS_107B0367=92XXM1-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0560=92XXM4-8DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0561=92XXM4-8DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0562=92XXM4-8DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0565=92XXM4-8DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0566=92XXM4-8DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0210=92XXM4-4.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0380=92XXM4-8DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0690=92XXM4-10DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0567=92XXM4-8AM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0568=92XXM4-8AM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0575=92XXM4-8AM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0569=92XXM4-8AM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0570=92XXM4-8AM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0385=92XXM4-8AM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0691=92XXM4-10AM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76B0&SUBSYS_107B0692=TW_92XXM4-11DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_107B0205=92XXM4.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_107B0317=92XXM4-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_107B0318=92XXM4-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_107B0370=92XXM4-3.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_107B0290=92XXM4-5.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_107B0368=92XXM4-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7634=92XXM6.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7632=92XXM1-3.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0=92XXM4-8DM.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690=92XXM4-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76B0=TW_92XXM4-11DM.INI DEFAULT=92XXM4-1.INI --- 4. Save changes to the STWRT64.INI file. We're not done yet. We need a copy of the I5.INI file from the v6.10.5405 audio driver package, otherwise the Sigmatel/IDT audio setup program won't have the necessary config info to setup your hardware on your Gateway FX510S computer and you'll end up with drivers that don't work. 5. Get a copy of the I5.INI file from the D20127-001-001.exe package which bundled v6.10.5405 of the audio drivers. Copy the I5.INI file to the \cabs\D20253-001-001\WDM\Vista\ folder. 6. We need to make a correction to the I5.INI file. It lists the hardware ID no as "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7683&SUBSYS_107B4044=i5.ini" when it should be listed as "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7682&SUBSYS_107B4044=i5.ini" [man, the people who wrote the drivers and the INI config files need to check their work carefully!]. Change the "3" to a "2" and save changes to the I5.INI file. 7. Ok, now we're set. Run the SETUP.EXE file from the \cabs\D20253-001-001\ folder (not the Vista folder), the setup program should use the STWRT64.INF file to detect your device, locate your "model no" in the modified STWRT64.INI file, and use the I5.INI file to input the rest of the audio settings & setup the rest of your audio hardware. And finally the 5713.x drivers should be able to work on your Gateway FX510S computer. It's the littlest of details like hardware IDs that can make a big difference.
  14. No it's not the RTM, I suspect we'll see at least 1 more build as this version added some things that weren't in there before and might need further testing & fixing. Considering this will be the last SP that XP ever gets, it's a good thing they're making sure it's perfect, but I'm just an anxious as you are (this SP is 1.5yrs late according to MS's original plans). we'll most likely see the XP SP3 RTM release later this April. probably the 3rd or 4th week of April. I was wondering the same thing, i thought it was a service pack, not a rollup package what MS said there is wrong. ALL service packs for WinXP ARE cumulative. thanks for the link to build 5508, jhmac77.
  15. Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate 2 Refresh (build 5508) has been released. Microsoft had a change of heart and decided to add HD audio support from KB888111 into the build 5508 release. read here: http://www.realtechnews.com/posts/5537
  16. I totally agree on that. Daniel_K did what Creative couldn't do in the first place and that is fix their "broken" Vista sound drivers.
  17. Forget the MS techies, lexonex!! Sometimes they're not much help. Do you know what HARDWARE ID NUMBER your Sigmatel Audio hardware uses? THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!! Get the hardware ID info of your audio device from Device Manager and mention it here in this forum! A picture of the hardware IDs listed for Sigmatel/IDT High Definition Audio Codec on the Dell Inspiron laptop I'm using:
  18. Don't get frustrated, PeaceByJesus and lexonex! Try my tips out to get the 5713.1 drivers to work for your machines! But since you guys could not do what I asked you do to and that is get the Hardware ID no of the Sigmatel Audio from Device Manager, I'll have to guess what kind of hardware ID your system uses. I'll start with PeaceByJesus. Here's what you should do for your Dell Dimension system to use the 5713.1 drivers. I looked at the contents of the STWRT.INI file in the R157052.EXE file (this file is the only one which seem to have vista audio drivers compatible with the Dell Dimension E520 machine) which has these IDs: ---- # stwrt.INI [Models] HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801A8=WRT_D2-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801E8=WRT_D2-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801C0=WRT_D2-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801C1=WRT_D2-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801DE=WRT_D2-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801EC=WRT_D2-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801C4=WRT_D2-3.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801C7=WRT_D2-3.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801C5=WRT_D2-3.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690=WRT_D2-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7680&SUBSYS_102801A7=WRT_D8-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7680&SUBSYS_102801A9=WRT_D8-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7680&SUBSYS_102801AB=WRT_D8-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7680&SUBSYS_102801D1=WRT_D8-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7680&SUBSYS_102801D2=WRT_D8-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7680&SUBSYS_102801AC=WRT_D8-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7680&SUBSYS_102801D0=WRT_D8-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7680=WRT_D8-2.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DC=WRT_D8-3.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DD=WRT_D8-4.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801ED=WRT_D8-4.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801F4=WRT_D8-4.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DB=WRT_D8-5.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801E0=WRT_D8-5.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801E1=WRT_D8-5.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_10280207=WRT_D8-5.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_10280215=WRT_D8-6.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618=WRT_D8-3.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_10280214=WRT_D4-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_1028021D=WRT_D4-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0=WRT_D4-1.INI DEFAULT=WRT_D8-2.INI ---- By default, when running the Sigmatel HD audio setup program after running R157052.EXE file to extract the files, it uses the STWRT.INI and WRT_D8-2.INI files to setup your audio hardware. So it looks like the hardware ID no your Dell Dimension E520 computer is "FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618" or something similar to it. Am I correct on this, PeaceByJesus? Remember you can get the hardware id number of the Sigmatel/IDT High Definition Audio Codec from Device Manager in Vista. Open Device Manager, Expand Sound, video and game controllers section, double click on Sigmatel High Definition Audio Codec click on the Details tab and change "Device Description" to "Hardware IDs" Now download the AUD_allVista_5713.1_PV_IDT_v22_IAS.exe file from the Intel web site, run the file to just extract the files to the \AUD_allVista_5713.1_PV_IDT_v22_IAS\ folder but do NOT run the setup.exe file. From the \AUD_allVista_5713.1_PV_IDT_v22_IAS\WDM\ folder, open the STWRT.INI file in Notepad and add the following lines below the [Models] section: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618=WRT_D8-4.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DD=WRT_D8-4.INI Save changes to the STWRT.INI file from the \AUD_allVista_5713.1_PV_IDT_v22_IAS\WDM\ folder. Now get a copy of the WRT_D8-4.INI file and copy that file to the \AUD_allVista_5713.1_PV_IDT_v22_IAS\WDM\ folder. And finally, run the SETUP.EXE file from the \AUD_allVista_5713.1_PV_IDT_v22_IAS\ folder (not the WDM folder), and the setup program should find your audio hardware, install the drivers, find the model in the modified SWTRT.INI file AND use the WRT_D8-4.INI file to setup your hardware. That's all there is to it! And your audio hardware should be able to use the 6.10.5713.1 of the sigmatel/idt audio drivers.
  19. You shouldn't be skeptical, PeaceByJesus. Altering the STWRT*.INI is a GOOD thing because the hardware ID that my hardware is using for the Dell Inspiron laptop WAS included in STWRT*.INF, but not in STWRT*.INI. I'm pretty confident in what I did. At first when I installed v6.10.5173.1 of the Audio drivers on the Dell Inspiron laptop from the Intel site, they did not work. Drivers were installed but no sound (and the speaker icon showed a red X). I needed BOTH STWRT*.INF and STWRT*.INI to list the specific hardware ID (or part of it) for the Sigmatel/IDT Audio setup program to correctly detect and configure the Audio hardware. Here's the contents of the STWRT.INI file from the v6.10.5713.1 driver package: ---- # stwrt.INI [Models] HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7680&SUBSYS_80860101=I3.INI the STWRT.INI file, and add the 7690 ID nos and the corresponding hardware config INI file (such as WRT_M2-1.INI). This is what I added to the STWRT.INI file: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801B5=WRT_M2-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801D8=WRT_M2-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690=WRT_M2-1.INI Then I save the changes to the STWRT.INI file, extracted & copied the WRT_M2-1.INI file from the R171788.exe file to the folder where I stored the build 5713.1 drivers, and ran the IDT Audio setup program. Now the setup program correctly identified by IDT audio device, got the hwid no. from the modified STWRT.INI file AND used the WRT_M2-1.INI file to properly configure the audio device. perhaps the folks at Dell should read my latest posts on modifying the STWRT*.INI files to include the older hardware IDs or models of Sigmatel/IDT audio hardware AND get a hold of v6.10.5713.x of the audio drivers AND add the other INI files like the WRT_D2-1.INI, WRT_D2-2.INI, etc. from the R157052.exe file into their own audio driver package. That should get the newer drivers to work with the older Sigmatel/IDT audio hardware. v6.10.5713.0 drivers from Gateway and v6.10.5713.1 drivers from Intel are almost "generic". build 5609 and 5614 of the audio drivers from Dell are less flexible and more restrictive to several recent models of audio hardware and won't work with older Sigmatel audio hardware.

  21. It's another mess that Adobe has to fix. Report the problem to Adobe ASAP and let's see if they can resolve the problem. I also read about other problems with Shockwave 11. See Adobe forum site here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/for...&forumid=44 In the meantime, I'm sticking with Shockwave Player 10.3.0.24 which worked great on my next-door neighbor's Win98 SE computer and on my WinXP/Vista machines.

  24. I recently happen to find slightly newer drivers than the Gateway site. The AUD_allVista_5713.1_PV_IDT_v22_IAS.exe file from the Intel site has Sigmatel/IDT HD Audio drivers version 6.10.5713.1. However, when I installed these drivers, the sound hardware stopped working. Turns out there are some hardware IDs missing from the STWRT.INI & STWRT64.INI files (NOT the INF files) from the 5713.1 driver package, even though those "missing" hwids are included in the STWRT.INF & STWRT64.INF files. This is the hardware ID the sigmatel/idt audio device uses on the Dell Inspiron E1405 laptop: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801D8 Even though HardwareID "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690" IS on the list in STWRT.INF/STWRT64.INF, it was NOT listed in STWRT.INI/STWRT64.INI. No problem. I can overcome this obstacle by editing the STWRT.INI or STWRT64.INI file (from the 5713.1 driver package) and add the missing hwids on there. I would also need to add references to other INI files, (for the specific hardware ID I'm using, I needed the WRT_M2-1.INI file from the build 5614 driver package from Dell). So in the INI files in the [Models] section, I needed to add the following in STWRT.INI or STWRT64.INI: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801D8=WRT_M2-1.INI HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690=WRT_M2-1.INI Then save changes to either STWRT.INI or STWRT64.INI. I would also need to copy the other INI files like WRT_M2-1.INI to the folder where I extracted build 5713.1 of the IDT audio drivers [in this case, the 5713.1 of the drivers are extracted to the \AUD_allVista_5713.1_PV_IDT_v22_IAS\WDM\ folder] . Now when I run the IDT Audio setup program from the WDM folder, it will use the modified STWRT.INI or STWRT64.INI file and the WRT_M2-1.INI file to correctly install the audio drivers AND correctly configure the audio hardware. And VOILA, I finally got v6.10.5713.1 of the Sigmatel/IDT HD audio drivers from the Intel audio package to work on my mom's Dell Inspiron laptop. So in short, if you want to try out v6.10.5713.0 of the Sigmatel/IDT audio drivers from Gateway or the v6.10.5713.1 of the audio drivers from Intel, extract the driver files first to a temporary folder, do NOT install them right away, make some changes to either STWRT.INI or STWRT64.INI (or both) by adding the missing hardware IDs that your audio hardware uses, copy the other INI file (such as WRT_D8-2.INI for Dell Dimension E520 or WRT_M2-1.INI for Dell Inspiron E1405, or whatever INI file used to configure your audio device) to the folder where you extracted and finally run the Sigmatel/IDT Audio setup program to make it detect your audio device, install the drivers and correctly configure your audio hardware. Hopefully the folks who are attempting to install the newer Sigmatel/IDT drivers but are unsuccessful are taking notes on this. Perhaps PeaceByJesus and lexonex may want to try this out . Just make sure to get the "Hardware ID" info of the Sigmatel/IDT Audio Device from either Device Manager or the DirectX Diagnostic Tool [DXDIAG.EXE] first, then add the specific hardware ID into the STWRT*.INI files from the 5713.x driver packages.
  25. I think you should also run CHKDSK /R to fix the file system errors, and then defrag your hard drives. Sometimes fixing the errors with CHKDSK and then defragging all your hard disk drives should make the installation of Vista SP1 work as expected.
